So disappointed in the sub I just got. I had to add flavor at home as it was just a hard crusty hoagie roll with barely anything in it and not a shred of flavor. The stromboli had the wrong cheese in it and all the veggies were mammoth in size. We've dined in before and were pleased but this was the first AND LAST time we will order for pickup. Local place near my Dad's house. He and I ate there today. Service was a bit slow but the food was solid. He got the fried shrimp sub which was as described. I got the sausage "boat". I guess that's PA code for sausage parmesan lol. This sub was outstanding. The roll was slightly crisp on the outside and pillowy soft on the inside. Sauce, peppers, onions and sausage all expertly smothered under a layer of mozzarella. VERY good sub. I'd definitely eat here again. read more

We've ordered take out a few times and it is always average, never bad nor great. Convenience is why we repeat I guess. Last night's pizza was delivered at about room temperature and the taste was off. The system said it would take more than an hour to deliver, but only after we'd paid and couldn't change our minds. It came to us more quickly but still not fresh. My biggest problem was the taste. We ordered one with sausage and there was a sweet taste to it, almost like they used breakfast sausage instead of Italian sausage. Surely that's not the case, as the owner might actually be Italian and would know better. But it definitely was not fragrant with the regular pizza flavors of oregano etc. The crust is no better than a frozen pizza from the store- not much flavor, kind of tough, no leoparding from a good hot oven. I think they know better, and even though there's not a lot of competition, I want them to do better. read more

It has become hit or miss. Used to be good quality. Now, you just never know. My last two pizzas were less than stellar. Last night, we ordered a large pizza, extra cheese, pepperoni, onion. Carry out. They cut through the bottom of the box so we had grease issues while driving home. The cheese was slid off one side as it was put away too hot at some point. Greasy, wet, nasty. Crust was soaked and barely cooked. This matches the last pizza we got there. Subs and dinners seem okay when ordered. Will be going elsewhere for pizza in town as we have choices. read more

We live really close by and it is great to have a dependable place to go to for a nice dinner out without a huge price tag. It has become our Friday night spot and I totally recommend it. I am recently from NYC so I can be a little snobby about Italian food but I must say this place hasn't let me down on any item I have sampled. Wait staff is very accommodating, friendly and helpful. A lack of basic customer service. They made a huge error and while the owner apologized and did what was needed to correct their mistake (as they should) , there was no attempt to get my name or contact information and I wasn't offered any compensation for a SIGNIFICANT inconvenience, while I don't need any handouts the actual point of a coupon is to get the customer to overcome the negative experience and come back , i can't see ordering anything from them again. read more

It is very very unfortunate that I had a poor experience here. We stopped in for lunch and ordered a couple subs to eat inside. One of the subs we ordered was NO ONIONS after about a 30 min. wait we get the sub and fries full of onions. After about ten mins. trying to catch the only waitress she took the platter and said "they do this all the time. I put no onions". after about 10-15 mins here comes the sub. Now I am finished eating my lunch. And whoa were is the fries? Yep she forgot to make the fries.We were already running late so she boxed up the sub. I walked up to the cashier and she added the fries to my bill. Well I was fuming by now. I told the cashier I wasnt going to pay for fries I did not get and the waitress yells that I had to because they already started cooking them. I told the cashier I would not pay for them and should not pay for the sub that was not served in a timly matter. They reluctantly removed that portion of the bill.With several big chain store near by we try to use the smaller mom and pop shops. I havent decided if we will go back but it will be a while if ever. read more

Tried last week for lunch. Nestled is a small shopping center my hopes weren't high but we were hungry. It was not crowded and the place is rather small. The menu was what you'd expect from a small carry out Italian restaurant. The 2 in my party order salads and an order of fries. The chicken ceasar and the chicken bacon salad. They very very tasty. Everything was crisp and fresh. The chicken on both salads had been marinated and cut into bite size pieces. And they weren't skimpy on the chicken or dressing. The fries came out as an appetizer, which turned out to be perfect, as we had a small child with us and it kept him occupied. All in all a very pleasant experience. Curious to go back and try a dinner entree. They also do delivery for those close by. And serve beer, wine and cocktails. read more

I went in for lunch today. There were 4 employees there, one on the phone and the other three were standing around a couple of slot machines, not doing much else. After I stood at the counter for 3 or 4 minutes, one of them finally broke away to take my order (they had no other customers and it was noon---prime lunch hour). I ordered 2 slices with pepperoni and a fountain drink. When he told me $9.28, I didn't react but I was shocked. I paid, because there is really nothing else around. He didn't tell me that they had to make a fresh pie, so I had to wait 20 minutes for 2 slices. The pizza wasn't bad, and when I finished my lunch and got up to leave, the guy asked me if the pizza was ok, and I told him it was OK but his prices were through the roof. I told him that I've been traveling for business my whole adult life and I never paid nearly $10 for 2 slices and a soda. I also told him that since he had an empty restaurant at lunchtime, they should give their pricing structure some serious thought. Pizza OK, customer service lacking, prices ridiculous. 11 years ago when we first moved here we went to Messina's a lot. Their food was pretty good. Then it turned into a thing where you had to pick through the drunk people hanging out a the tables when you first walked in and all the cigarette smoke to just pick up your food. It wasn't a very nice atmosphere for me to walk into with my young child. Not trying to be judgey but loud drunks tripping you with their legs hanging out into the main aisle and yelling and cursing and blowing smoke into your face isn't really fun for a toddler; especially one with smoke allergies. Went a few times by myself to pick up food and the staff just got ruder and less professional over time and the food has gone down hill and the fact they are pretty much the only place in town you can get alcohol besides the VFW tells you all you need to know about it being family friendly. Messina Pizzeria fulfills the wonderful Italian sterotype. It exceeded all of my expectations. Their pizza has a crispy crust and there is a wide variety of toppings. I enjoy their special pizza which is loaded with pepperoni, sausage, onions, mushrooms, black olives, green peppers, and anchovies. All of the toppings are extremely fresh. Their dinners are all homemade from scratch. Although the food is enough to keep me coming back for the rest of my life, the owners, Patricia and Peter Ferrante, are personable with all of their customers and always makes my dining expierences wonderful. The employees are always friendly and make everyone appreciated. Messina Pizzeria is undoubtedly the best restaurant to fully enjoy any dining expierence. read more

Despite our better judgement we ordered from them on a Monday evening because it's the only place open on a Monday. We live a few blocks from the place but decided delivery. Ordered 2 subs and couple sides. Was not told a wait time so after over an hour( to drive a few blocks) called and canceled my order. Worked in a sub shop for years and know what is acceptable. Was not even given an apology just "well, ok I guess"! Kinda odd when I tip the driver a min of 5 bucks for driving less than 2 minutes and for food that is fair at best. It will never again be pick up or delivery from them it will be Digiorno. read more

When I called to check on it after an hour an half of waiting the guy who answered the phone was rude told me they were very busy but food would get there soon only it didn't show up for another half an hour after that and wasn't very hot and my salad didn't have any dressing with it. read more

Just moved to the Stewartstown area and tried Messina's. Best stromboli and marinara we've had in a long time. Other subs and entrees are delicious, too. Great service and friendly staff. Been back a few times and had consistently good experiences. Highly recommend. read more

The beer and wine list is quite impressive for a local family pizza joint, I've hear a lot of good things about the Stromboli but it's just not my thing, the pizza pies and slices here are a little too thick and doughy for me, I didn't enjoy them either time I've dined there. Pizza is tasty(I like sloppy and greasy)but it is burnt more times than not. Daughter couldn't even finish a piece. Ate the cheese and said she was full. When cooked right it is a minimum of three pieces. Some parental supervision would help since it is usually a bunch of kids working. read more
