I have too many foodie threads in my FB and one thread in particular, where someone asked; who has the best pizza in Lancaster? Over a hundred responses, Capricio's was one of them. So.. we're off to Capricio's - an unassuming mom & pop shop, pizza slices on display, tv blaring, booth type tables, soda machine/large free standing soda case and a huge menu. I ordered the Lasagna pizza, absent of meatballs - but, I really didn't care, cause that pie was good. Loved the crisp, chewy crust, dollops of ricotta, nicely spiced crumbled sausage, flavorful sauce - all in all, a good pizza. When my hubby showed displeasure regarding his fried chicken wings, an older gentleman behind the counter, cooked him up a fresh batch of breaded wings. They came to the table, pipping "HOT." Capricio's definitely did not disappoint. After our order was taken, we didn't wait long for our meal. The food was delicious and the portions were more than generous (we had to take my wife's dish to go because the portion was heaping ). I suspected my teenage niece needed someone just "to talk to". I was in town and made time to ask her out on a "date". I let her pick the place, I wanted her to be comfortable. BJ's Brewhouse would not have been my first choice for a heartfelt talk but this is where she wanted to go. And you know what? Turns out it was a great place! It was a Monday night and not too crowded - we were seated and greeted immediately. I had looked ahead at the menu and saw that Monday was 1/2 off pizza night. We decided that was the way to go. The 1/2 off pizzas were the flatbreads and the large deep dish. My niece wanted to try the chicken pesto which came on flatbread. Since I am a founding member of the "never enough bread" club, I really wanted deep dish. No problem, the crust types were swapped and both of us were happy. She loved the combination of chicken, tomatoes, and mozzarella and goat cheeses on top of the pesto sauce. I wasn't a fan but I knew a pizookie was in my future. We talked and talked. The restaurant was loud enough that people wouldn't overhear our conversation yet still quiet enough that we didn't need to raise our voices to be heard. We spent a long time talking and our waitress kept our drinks full and checked back a couple of times but she didn't make us feel rushed. I don't want to forget the pizookie. A large, fresh baked cookie topped with ice cream and sauce. Totally overkill on the sweetness but, since I subscribe to the monthly newsletter of the over the top dessert club, I was right in my element. I would not have ordered it, but my niece wanted the strawberry shortcake pizookie. A hot sugar cookie, a huge scoop of vanilla ice cream, strawberry sauce and fresh strawberries turned into my new fave. It was huge. It was decadent. It was too much. It was AWESOME! My husband and I ate here in 2021 but haven't been back to the area since then. I have to admit, I had forgotten how truly amazing this little Italian restaurant is. It's simple and unpretentious - but wow is it Italian! From the kind men behind the counter, to the music, to the menu. We ordered weirdly. I'll admit it. I ordered French fries and a Greek salad. My husband ordered the ravioli with pink sauce. All this was to share as we've done for more than 50 years. I have this thing with fries. If they are hot - I love them. If served any other way - eh, not a fan. We'll let me tell you - I was served the hottest, freshest, best BASKET of fries I've ever had in my entire life. I mean sizzlingly perfect! Then came my beautiful SMALL salad - just as perfect and just as surprising. It was bigger than expected with generous - well, generous everything. Feta - smooth and delicious. Parmesan - thinly sliced perfectly, olives, tomatoes, crispy lettuce. I was in heaven and then I tasted the ravioli! Served so hot and cooked al dente as any pasta should be. It's hit or miss here . If the owner Joe takes your order then your food will be amazing but if the older gentleman takes your order .... oh boy . I ordered a Special Italian and what I got was not what the menu said . No fresh mozzarella, no prosciutto , some old lettuce and no seasoning but the worst part was that both sides of the roll were coated in mayonnaise ! Also not stated in the menu and I despise mayo , ugh . Our Texas fries had very little bacon and no jalapenos and my boyfriend's cheesesteak had no sauce even though the man on the phone asked if we wanted it ....very disappointing meal . Amazing Italian food joint. Hits the spots. We love the tomato sauce in the seafood pasta. It was one of the best seafood fettuccine I've had. My boyfriend really likes his cheese steaks. The bread was delicious. We didn't get pizza but we figured that it would be delicious considering the cheese, bread and tomato were on point in other dishes. Great food, great service; consistently. This little out of the way place is always the right place for Pizza, subs and salad. It's tucked away behind 7-11 in Smoke town, Pa. It's a typical "Mom and Pop" pizza place inside....the food is as good as you'll find in any NY pizzeria. The owner is always there, the staff is always in a great mood and the food is always really good. There is plenty of parking, easy in, easy out. Don't miss out on this Italian gem in Lancaster! My son and I decided to check it out based on Yelp reviews, and we were absolutely blown away--Joe truly exceeded our high expectations! Even my son, who is notoriously picky about food, devoured the fried ravioli, chicken tenders, and his personal cheese pizza. As the sign in the window proclaims, independent pizza makers craft their pies differently than national chains, and my son wholeheartedly agrees that this is the superior option. As for me, I indulged in the eggplant parmesan sub, which was huge and delicious, but the real star of the show was the Capricio stromboli. It was simply out of this world! If I lived closer, this would undoubtedly be my go-to spot for Italian cravings. What a joy it was to have dinner here ! I had called them before we drove over to see if they served wine, and they didn't, so we swung by a liquor store first to grab some vino. Now mind you, we had never ever set foot in Capricio's Pizza before we walked in, but when we did walk in carrying our wine, the adorable server Francesca acted like we had known each other forever. She said knowingly to her colleagues, "Oh yeah, they just called". That made me smile. Capricio's is everything you want in a restaurant. It's a family owned business and you can see how much pride they have in their food. The chef came out to talk to us because they were low on eggplant and offered to whip up something else on the spot. He suggested broccoli rabe and asked everyone if he could toss some into their plates as a make-up to us. Our dinners were served with a terrific (and large) salad and a plate of addictive garlic knots. I ordered Linguini with Shrimp Marinara ($14.99) and I couldn't have been happier with it. The pasta was excellent, the sauce was excellent, and the shrimp were perfect. I went to this place hoping to get some good wings and pizza to enjoy while watching the monday night football game in my hotel. I walked in an hour before closing as it was the closest thing to me. As soon as I walked in I could tell the guy at the counter had an attitude, as well as being rude and short with me. I brushed it off knowing that I was showing up an hour before closing. He takes my order and tells me it'll be about 10 min. I ask him to make the wings extra crispy, and once again his face said it all. Upon receiving my pizza and wings, I asked him for some crushed red pepper packets. He told me to grab some off the table and top the pizza off there. A bit annoying, but not a big deal. My order of wings had no ranch and he never asked what dressing I wanted. I asked him for ranch, and he brought me a small cup of ranch that was about half full. Keep in mind the order has 12 wings. When I asked him to for another cup, he caught that attitude again, saying that he was going to have to charge me. I told him I would pay for it, but also asked him how he expects that little cup to be enough for 12 wings? He gave me the cup but mumbled under his breath as I walked out the door. Returned to my hotel (7 min drive), only to be disappointed by the soggy wings. Pizza was nothing to rave about. Being from out of town, I like to try local spots and try to avoid big chain restaurants, but these type of places make it hard to. Needless to say I will not be returning to this spot. read more

After spending the day in Lancaster, and Bird in the Hand my wife and I wanted some time to sit down to enjoy a nice dinner. We checked on Yelp and saw that Capricio's was close by and we were looking for pizza and salad, and with several good reviews we decided to head over and check it out. When we arrived we were warmly greeted and told we could sit anywhere we wanted while picking out our selections, so we grabbed a table and looked over the menu and decided upon splitting the Italian Antipasto Rustico Salad, a piece of pizza for each of us, plus an order of fries to share. While sitting at the table the owner came by to ask us if we minded moving so he could setup for a party of 20 coming in, so we moved to a booth by the entrance, which afforded us a perfect view of the pizza master at work. The hand tossed pizzas were cranked out and fired up just perfect as our thin crust slices were simply outstanding! The perfect caramelization of toppings, and arrangement of items across the pizza were served up perfectly with just the right amount of sauce on our thin crust pizza. The crust was as good as the rest of the slice, with the perfect bite, chew and finish from beginning to end. The large salad was equally as impressive, with fresh greens, tomatoes, (even using the tops which I like to see - no waste) and rolled up Italian meats and cheese perfectly sliced atop the bed of greens, accompanied by a delicious balsamic dressing. The large salad split between two people with a slice of pizza each with a side of hot and crispy fries to share was more than enough for the both of us. The place was clean, well lit and the pizza station was well organized and clean as well. Definitely a return trip to this location on our next visit to the area. I love pizza with the passion of a thousand fiery suns. Capricio's is close to the top of my list of favorite pizza. (Not the very top. No, that honor is reserved for a little pizza place named Sal's in Denton, Maryland, which closed down a few years ago but remains forever etched on my tastebuds.) The service at Capricio's is friendly and efficient. The lady who answered phones, managed payments, served foods, and bussed tables was quite pleasant despite being super busy with customers and take-out orders. We ordered way too much food: pizza, fried ravioli, chicken wings, fries, and more. The fried ravioli was just okay and the wings were solidly average. The fries needed salted, but I was grateful they were not seasoned/battered. Nothing came out at the same time, but everything came out piping hot. Now, I'm the kind of person who will get up in the middle of a meal to microwave my food, so I appreciated the food being served to us straight from the fryer. In a more formal setting gathered with more formal people, I would have preferred our meals to arrive at the table simultaneously. But for a casual family dinner where we're all just strapping on our feed bags, dishing it out HOT as it gets done from the kitchen was total awesomeness. Capricio's pizza was fantastic. The crust was the perfect combination of chewy and crisp. I could have made a meal from crusts alone. The sauce was flavorful with a hint of sweetness, and the cheese was ample without being overloaded. The mushrooms were canned, but there was a ton of them. (Note: Both Big Daddy and Kid #1 felt more cheese was needed, but myself and Kid #2 thought the amount of cheese was perfect.)
