First time I came here the food was good. That's why coming back twice and getting the worst service I've had in a long time is wild to me. We sat for 20 minutes while every waiter looked at us and did nothing. One girl stared at us the whole time while she folded napkins. I asked a waiter for help and he walked off and never sent anyone. The same person who seated us kept looking over at us, and still nobody came. After 20 minutes we finally asked for help again, and another 5 minutes went by before anyone did anything. On top of that, we came a few weeks earlier while they were clearly open and were told they were closed, with more than two hours left until closing time. A whole staff of people who will stare at you and not offer one bit of help or send anyone to your table. Nobody tried to fix the wait or make it right. I had reservations for the dinner room for my birthday. Somehow the reservation showed as "Patio" on their system and they "couldn't do anything about it". The weather was bad so the restaurant was overwhelmed. Another reservation had taken the spot that was being cleared for us and the restaurant did not intervene even though we'd been waiting half hour from our reserved time and the group that sat had a later reservation time. When we finally sat, and our order was taken, we did not get our drinks for almost an hour. The manager finally "found" our order and brought us the drinks. The food was ok. I have been to this place before and had a wonderful experience so it was very upsetting to have my birthday reservation turn out the way it did. When our check came we were charged twice for the drinks when we had one round but they could not find our server to confirm whether we had one or two orders of our drinks. I would definitely NOT recommend this place if you have something special planned because they were not prepared to handle weather related issues especially when the warning was given well in advance in that area on this day. No acknowledgment of the "birthday" part of reservation either but at that point I just wanted leave. Also the music was too loud for an empty place with shitty service. read more

I've never in my life had food so salty an bland, the beans taste like they took it out the can a warmed it up the microwave for 45 seconds no flavor!! The rice is cheap box rice from your local grocery store an the chicken wings were not freshly cooked an were beyond salty. I was here for work and the student that I was visiting, and I asked what sort of food I should look for us to have for dinner and she asked for Mexican and I picked our mestizo for us to have dinner. We used open table for our reservation, I thought the food was great, we had queso fundito to start and then got different tacos, I ended up with the squid tacos, that were unique and enjoyable, I loved the flavor combination! This is a spacious and new Mexican restaurant in Kendall square. It was pretty empty when we arrived at 6:30pm on a Friday, and the servers were all standing together with not much to do. The food was okay, but overpriced. At $15 for guacamole, we had hoped for some more unique housemade flavors, but it was basically the same as store-bought versions. Would skip. The jumbo chicken wings were crispy and very sweet, which I enjoyed, but they never brought out the dipping sauce that it was supposed to come with it. The shrimp tacos were the highlight for us flavor-wise, as it was a good mix of textures (soft, tender shrimp with crispy tortilla and a creamy drizzle of sauce), but the portion was quite small. Overall, the food was okay but pricey, the inside was clean and nicely decorated but empty, and the service was subpar (servers unfriendly and constantly trying to take our plates away without asking us if we were done). Don't waste your time or money here. The portions are tiny and so expensive. Any other Mexican restaurant in the Boston area you can get 5 toacos for the price of two here and they taste better. We brought the wrong food and the owner or manger idk what one came over and said it was somehow my fault even though the waitress wrote down the write thing. The food was really strong but in a bad way. Weird flavors, weird toppings. The bathroom was filthy and the dinning room wasent that clean either. I have friends who say the have dealt with the owners and they were rude wich is no surprise because I've met them at there other restaurants and yes they were incredibly rude. Honestly so surprised this place doesn't have more high rated reviews! I've been here for brunch in the summer and now recently for dinner, both times were great. The queso is sooo good, I just wish it came with tortilla chips instead of soft tortillas. Had to order some regular chips for it. I also got the enchiladas with the spicy sauce and it was perfectly spicy. The side of beans could've been seasoned a bit more but other than that everything had great flavor. I tried a lot of the other items my family got and the birria ramen was gooooood! The arroz con pollo also good. The tres leches passion fruit cake was sweet and flavorful, and the flan was nice and smooth. My espresso martini was perfectly creamy. They had some classic Latin music playing. Host was very nice, they all sang HBD to my sister and gave her a free shot lol. I think their location may not be the best since I feel like that that area thrives more in the summer. This modern Mexican fusion restaurant and bar serves up a variety of tacos, enchiladas, sopes, hot & cold small plates, main entrees and a few desserts (churros & cake). The place has a modern feel in a L-shaped space with rows of table seating, seating up at the bar with TVs, big windows for natural light and murals on the walls. The bar offers 6 beers on tap, wine, margaritas, tequilas, and sangria. The prices here are on the higher spectrum. I stopped by Mestizo on a late afternoon and sat myself at the bar. The bartender brought over a glass of cold water as I went over the menu. I decided on the Tostadas De Atun ($18 plus tax), which has Asian fusion marinated tuna loin pieces, pickled red onion, avocado, garlic cilantro sauce, on top of a crisp corn tostadita. This cold appetizer had a citrusy flavor. Next, the Yuca Fries ($7 plus tax) were 5 thick crisp firm yuca fries with a creamy dressing for dipping. I also got 2 tacos which were the Carnitas ($7 plus tax) and Camarones ($7 plus tax). Though small tacos, both were nicely presented and both I enjoyed served on top of soft corn tortillas. The check was presented after I had enough and it came out to $41.73 with tax and before tip. Overall, the Mexican fusion food I had was pretty good, but be prepared to spend more than normal for Mexican fusion due to this prime location and modern setting. read more

Nearly empty for Sunday lunch when we visited so very easy to get a table. Service was good and food was served quickly except for specific dishes like eggs Benedict. Food was a hit or miss. We started with queso dip which came with a small dish of guac as well and both those were good. For mains, I ordered the breakfast quesadilla and my husband had the Birria ramen. We enjoyed the Birria ramen and were not as impressed by the quesadilla. I couldn't taste the eggs in it and the overall flavor was a bit bland. I am so disappointed in this place. There wasn't much else open on a Monday afternoon so this was it. The place was pretty empty. Now I know why. Who knows how long it's been there or how long it will survive. Looking for something vegan shouldn't have been difficult. Healthy & vegan? Apparently the only option was a grain bowl. I then come to find out they have no arugula. How disappointing. Yet, they don't have any other greens to substitute. Seriously? How is that possible? Pretty pathetic. What made things worse was SPECIFICALLY making sure there were NO PEPPERS in the dish. So what happens? It comes out & the first thing I smell (gross) & see... are peppers. COME ON! What did they do? The restaurant is very spacious and has very creative wall designs. The staff was very friendly and would stop by ever so often check up on us to make sure we are comfortable and enjoying our meal. As for the food, the first thing I want to mention is the Tres Leches dessert. The cake was moist but not heavy, and it was not overly sweet. The sweetness and the tartness off the passion fruit were well balanced. As for my favorite dish, it would be the birria ramen. It was such a creative idea for this fusion of Asian and Mexican cuisine. The noodles were cooked perfectly, and the braised beef was so flavorful. The birria soup base was a bit salty for me, but eating all the ingredients together made it a very delicious dish. I would also have preferred if the yolk was a bit more runny. The tacos were good, I especially enjoyed the Camarones Taco, but the portion is a bit on the smaller side. I would prefer bigger tacos and skip on the Spanish rice. This is somewhere I would actively recommend people not to go to. I was one of a few people who went together, and we all got different things. Their food looked nice but was all underseasoned and dry. Their portions are small, and the place is overpriced for what you are getting. I have never seen smaller tacos. This place also seems to have made a conscious decision to skimp on even the smallest things. You have to pay for chips and salsa and then they give you about a shot glass worth of salsa, how much money is that realisticly saving them.
