Really good breakfast/brunch spot. It's located in a small shopping center. I visited for the 1st time while in town, on a Sunday around 1pm. The brunch menu is available until 2pm. The service 5/10: We were sat quickly as the restaurant wasn't busy. There isn't a lot of room to wait at the front of the restaurant so if this place has a wait, it could get crowded. It took longer than I expected to be greeted by someone but not a bothersome amount of time. It did take a while as well to get our drinks. We were served by two women. Getting their attention was difficult. We were missing items we'd ordered and our pancakes cooled down waiting for butter and syrup. The service overall was very slow. The food 7.5/10: I will say the sweet cream pancakes looked better online than they did on our table. They weren't hot either. I'm not sure who's at fault for that, the kitchen or the waitresses but they were really good. They were the melt in your mouth kind of buttermilk pancakes. The chorizo was really good. The tortillas were perfect. The red salsa that came with the chips and salsa was warm so that was a bit off putting but the green salsa was great. We scrapped the little bowl clean of that. Wish we could have had more. The queso was decent. The horchata and the cold brew coffee...amazing! My daughter's cranberry juice was 100% cranberry juice, not the concentrate stuff. Overall the food was good. I wish it was hot. The restaurant 7/10: We sat in a booth. My side of the booth had badly cracked leather. If it weren't for my long biker shorts, the seats would have hurt the backs of my thighs. It was very low as well. My 6 year old had to sit in a booster so she'd reach the table. Everything was clean. The bathrooms were clean as well. We had a good view of the TVs. Overall: 7/10. I liked this place. I am done with Mestizos!!! I am so disappointed! Migas and Chilaquiles are not the same thing. Ordering pick up and having someone tell me that the Chicken tortilla soup doesn't come with any kind of tortilla? Come on! You guys could have done better! The certainty with which they explain classic dishes done wrong to a Mexican client assuming their explanation is 100% correct, is appalling! Do not tell me what is right in Mexican cuisine, when you are literally doing it wrong! Note to Owner (J): Make sure your dishes are Mexican if you want to claim you serve Mexican food. Train your waitresses to take some accountability, customer service is key to have more people walk into your business for a second time. Any modifications to classic Mexican dishes should not be taken lightly. You could have Mexican customers expecting Mexican dishes in your Mexican food restaurant. Have been a "regular" customer for going on 2 years. The food is amazing here. Hands down you'll want to come eat it again. The weekly specials are nice for little pop up dates, we try and come here once a week or every 2 weeks. The service has only improved since I've been coming here. 2 of my favorite service providers are Valery and Mirna, these 2 truly bring that place to light and make each Experience better than the next. The consistent good attitude and always friendly face that makes sure you know your always taken care of is always welcoming and makes you feel like family. The food never fails, the service is always consistent, and the drinks are always perfect. I wish I could provide a photo of the food and drinks but everything tasted so good it was demolished before I could even think about my phone or taking a picture. Happens pretty much every time. This has been a weekly stopping dining and drinking spot for us and friends. However, either change in management, ownership, or chef has dramatically changed the food for the worse.. they literally never have salmon on the menu as advertised. Because the owner would rather serve you mahi mahi or tilapia ( gross) . The beef fajitas were full of fat and the guacamole was days old. Not the quality of food we have experienced in the past. Phenomenal! Sooooo delicious and such a great experience. We went here on a Saturday night around 6 p.m. and even though it was busy, we got seated right away. This place is bigger than it appears from the outside. Staff was wonderful. Our server, Bri, was so fun and sweet. She noticed our chips were full of crumbs and brought us fresh chips. We shared the Combo Fajitas and Chile Con Queso. I also got the Premium-Rita with a Tajin rim. So smooth, not too sweet, and oh so fresh. The meat was great quality and well seasoned. I have never had a bad meal or bad service from this restaurant. That said, I usually go there for their pozole and it never disappoints. Chips and salsa are good. I've tasted their fajita and it was good. I remember thinking their queso wasn't spectacular but it was fine. Tacos were very good. Chilaquiles were delicious. Pancakes with interesting options were good, maybe a little expensive for pancakes but good. Their trash can nachos or whatever they call them look delicious. Updating my review. This is still what I consider to be the best Mexican breakfast. We dine here every week. The owner is extremely responsive to feedback, and works to keep everything at five stars. The Mexican coffee is wonderful, with hints of cinnamon and brown sugar. Very nice. Their Migas here are the best we have ever tasted, but we recommend the ones with Verdi (green) sauce, not the red, it's just a personal preference. Went for breakfast and had a great breakfast with more food than one can eat! Had the Migas special - scrambled eggs, tortilla chips, avocado, queso fresco, and crema in a red chile sauce. They have different sauces in case you like green versus red. Many Mexican dishes to chose from- burritos, tacos, eggs Benedict and more! Also opted for a tradition American breakfast- pancakes, sausage, house made potatoes, fruit and fried eggs. They have a special Mexican coffee that is made with sugar and cinnamon. Kids quesadillas are a JOKE. The tiny tiny quesadilla that we got MIGHT fill up a 6 month old, so don't waste your money on the kids menu otherwise your (picky) eaters might still be hangry. The rice was fine. The chicken was dry. The burrito was okay. I asked for red sauce on my enchiladas. They called me back confused and I ended up telling them to put whatever sauce on there as long as it's not super spicy. They put a cheese sauce. Not the best but not the worst. I live right behind this place and stopped a few times for tacos to go which are great but a bit pricey but delicious. Eventually took my wife for a sit down meal and to go over menu options. Found you can build your own enchiladas and choose between several meats and sauces. I think I've tried nearly every combination by now and I love having the variety. My wife loves the fajita beef with Poblano sauce and I like everything, mostly their Tinga Chicken. We branched out and ordered many other menu items and everything I've had is somewhere between very good and great. Food presentation, quantity and quality are exceptional. Mestizos is easily my favorite restaurant in the Woodlands/Conroe area. I highly recommend anyone to give this place a try. The staff is extremely professional and caring, and really delivers on a family atmosphere. In my many visits here, I have never seen an employee without a smile and the willingness to make my experience perfect. My family and I try to go here once a week - either for Friday night dinner or for Sunday brunch. The owner, Jacob, is almost always there and will routinely check on guests to make sure their experience is up to his standard. The friendly and fun culture Jacob has cultivated amongst himself, the staff, and the guests at Mestizos is one my favorite things about the restaurant. Now, onto my favorite thing about the restaurant - the food! My all time favorite: the Mole enchiladas with Tinga chicken. The mole sauce is rich and velvety with the perfect blend of spices and flavors - topped with fresh shredded lettuce, finely diced white onion, and drizzled with queso fresco. Of course, this goes perfectly with some rice and charro beans. Another must try are the tostadas - these are the perfect appetizer to start any meal, whether brunch or dinner. The beans, beef and queso fresco and other toppings go perfectly together. I always ask for a side of jalapenos and diced tomato to add on top. I definitely recommend adding the jalapenos. Next, the brunch! The brunch is absolutely fantastic, and I cannot recommend it enough. I did not know they had a brunch for a while, but when I finally discovered it, I felt as if I had been missing out the previous few months. I always use eggs benedict as my baseline test for any brunch place - Mestizos passed with flying colors. They have the classic eggs benedict, which is good, but you MUST try the chorizo benedict. Delicious chorizo, with a poached egg and hollandaise topped with a jalapeno slice. The chorizo mixed with the runny egg yolk, all sopped up with an English muffin is the perfect combination. Of course, at any Mexican restaurant you cannot forget the bar. Mestizos has delicious margaritas. Cold and strong drinks with regular and jumbo sizes. I can't tell you how big the regular is, however, as I have never strayed from the jumbo - and it's only $8.50. Mestizos also offers a variety of frozen margaritas including mango, peach watermelon, strawberry, and others. Mestizos has dishes for the children as well. Of course, the American staple of chicken nuggets and French fries made it onto the menu just in case your child's taste buds are boring as my daughters. But for the kids, Mestizos also offers tacos, enchiladas, burritos, quesadillas, hamburgers, and a grilled cheese. I love this place. The taste and the consistency Mestizos delivers is unmatched by any other Mexican restaurant in the area. If you have not tried this place, give it a shot. If you have tried this place before and had a bad experience, I urge you to give it another try. read more

This was our first time here! It said "Hot and New!" On Yelp, so we wanted to try it out!! We were greeted at the door by a nice young man who told us we could sit wherever we liked. My mom ordered a small DosX and that sounded good, so I ordered a tall one! We also started with a small queso! The cheese dip was served hot and was very cheesy with the fried flakey chips that come with cheese dip usually! The hot sauce was warm and spicy!! Just how we like it!! We just wanted to check it out so we didn't order food, but we will be back to try some of the menu options!! Very disappointed. Everywhere you go you can substitute rice and beans for veggies or extra side of sour cream etc. to accommodate your diet and lifestyle in 2021. Mestizos refused to do this. The waiter even brought over a manager to see if she would be able to help make a recommendation or accommodation. The Manager stated fajitas are priced with rice and beans. She said I could order fajitas a la cart but it would be more expensive than regular price and then I could add veggies or an extra sour cream if I would like. But if I ordered the rice and beans version, it would come that way no matter what. I stated that I was sorry to have caused any inconvenience to their policy but if it's too complex for their system or policy, I would just go elsewhere for dinner. Mind you, I was very polite throughout this conversation. They said, "OK have a nice day" So, we will not be going back.
