First time here and I was surprised how big the portions are here! I ordered the ginger sesame salad with grilled chicken and my husband ordered the mac and cheese with boneless wings. We got the fries and fried okra to share as well. Everything was tasty and had a lot of food leftover that we ended up taking to go. Out of everything we ordered I would say the ginger sesame salad was my favorite! I love the sesame dressing that they used and the crunchy bits on top with mandarin oranges was perfection! We have been coming here for years and while the food is good it can be a hit or miss. Our service was average this time. We had to remind our waitress to bring additional items ( lemons and sauces). The omelet was spectacular and the filled biscuits and gravy were good. Shrimp on the grits was way over cooked but tasty and the bread on the avocado toast was very soggy. So glad we went here. The ambiance is nothing special, but the food is VERY special. Every time that I have dined here, the meal was perfect. On this visit, we went for lunch and had one of their specials. The half sandwich and salad was my go-to and I ordered the GIANT ITALIAN. Their half sandwich is more than enough to fill me. I hesitate to write this because this place is a "hidden gem" for breakfast, but I need to give props when they're due. The name is stupid, I admit, and it initially made us nervous, but boy oh boy the food made up for it in spades! It is clean and new looking inside, bathrooms were clean, furniture comfortable. This restaurant is nestled in a strip mall and cleanly decorated. We were seated immediately and serviced quickly. Food came out in a reasonable amount of time too. Our other companion also got the pecan French toast (no picture) but found it well done and the pecans good because they were in small pieces. Salmon eggs Benedict was also a hit. The chicken fried steak was the least enjoyed. It was bland with an odd texture. Overall I do believe I would go again but make a different choice. read more

Really liked the soup and sandwich combo (giant italian and french onion soup) for lunch for many years, then a couple of years ago (not sure when actually), they changed the recipe for the french onion soup and it wasn't the same. I haven't been back but once since just to confirm it's still not good. As of May, it's still not tasting good. Wish they would go back to the previous recipe / cook or whatever. Had dinner with family here and it was great ! I had the beer batter fish and really enjoyed it. Perfectly cooked and arrived at the table nice and hot. I substituted the fries with cold slaw and it was delicious. 2 of my family members had the same and they were also very pleased. Another had the fried shrimp which was pressed flat, something I had not seen before. Service was very good - I never had to ask for a refill of my iced tea or additional condiments. Just left Margaritaville and we're hungry for breakfast!! Saw Kitchen Tales on Yelp and decided to stop in! We walked in and were greeted with a smile!! It was my husband, me, and our daughter. The host said, "So 2 and 1/2?!?" Thought that was funny and a light way to greet us! Our waiter came right away to take our drink order! Drinks came fast! I got a Bloody Mary. It hit the spot!! It's helpful to read a review if you're looking for a "breakfast drink" to know that they serve a few different options!! The have mimosas and a few specialty drinks for breakfast!! We got our daughter a side of pancakes. I decided on the avocado toast. My husband picked the pulled pork benedict. The pancakes came out hot and fluffy! Absolutely delicious!!! Avocado toast comes with pico. If you don't like onions, please ask for no pico. There is a ton of pico hidden under the eggs so I didn't see that in the pictures. Just a heads up. Chose to get a fried egg on top and it was cooked perfectly!! The potatoes are amazing along with the salsa served on the side!!! Kinda spicy and delicious!! My husband loved his Benedict! The egg was runny and perfect and the crumbled bacon on top was a perfect touch of texture!! Let's just say he made a happy plate!! This place is fantastic. My husband and I have been coming here for our Sunday brunches, and today is the first time out of 5 that we were disappointed with our food. (Hence the 4/5 stars) The service is always great! The chicken and waffles, biscuits and gravy, and the Benedict's remain our fave. Don't even get me started on the elite breakfast potatoes. Today, we branched out and got the breakfast wraps. The tortillas were so hard, they were inedible. We had to deconstruct them to eat them. The sausage was so hard and burnt, we thought it was parts of the bacon. However, this isn't going to stop us from coming back. We have been happy and left satisfied every time we've eaten here. I know I've said it before, but this is one of the very best restaurants around - not just along 105 but anywhere north of Houston. One great example is one of the greatest lunch deals ever: for $10 you get soup & salad, or soup & half sandwich - and if you get the French onion soup and the Giant Italian sandwich you'll get two of the best food items anywhere, and more than enough food for anyone at lunch. See the attached picture - the Giant Italian is so big that when you get half for lunch it's as big as a lot of whole sandwiches at other places. Kitchen Tales is a unique restaurant, from the start it makes you think it might be like a Dennys or IHOP, but once your inside and see the menu, it's nothing like those types of restaurants. The menu is short but contains a very wide verity of flavors, great soup list, excellent salad list, burger options, and many unique dishes. We tried the mussels and clams plus the jalapeño poppers, you only get 5 poppers but you get a mound of mussels and clams, both very tasty dishes. For our main course, we had the fried pickles burger plus the roasted Cornish hen, although the hen was a bit dry, it was still a very tasty dish. The burger was good and very different having the fried pickles, very juicy burger. The restaurant is very clean and well organized, the staff's very friendly and knowledgeable. My wife & I visited Kitchen Tales this evening for date night and we LOVED it. It was my wife's 2nd visit, but my 1st. Kitchen Tales, for us, was great tasting food, well thought-out & executed recipes using high-quality ingredients, & fast, friendly service. I want to highlight, first, our appetizer -- the Texan Caprese (no photo). Grilled garden tomatoes, melted mozzarella, crumbled bacon, & pesto make for a very tasty, unique caprese dish. I recommend! The 2nd thing I would highlight is the thick cut pork chop with roasted veggies. It was ~3" thick, well seasoned, cooked perfectly, juicy & tasty, & well-portioned. After cutting the meat off of the bone, I think I had 5-6 oz which was perfect. Give it a try if you want an elevated take on the classic pork chop! All in all, I'll be headed back soon. My husband and I arrived with our young baby who fussed towards the end of dinner and the staff was so friendly about it. Aside that ending, we were sat quickly. All the servers were nice and timely. I expected a piece of ham like on traditional eggs benedict but I think there were small pieces of chopped up ham inside. The grits were cooked well but the portion was pretty small. A touch of salt was added to the entire dish for a preferred taste. I enjoyed trying something different but would likely eat the traditional eggs benedict next time. They cooked the eggs to perfection. Whites completely cooked with runny yolk only. Hubs ordered stuffed biscuits and gravy. He got sausage links as his meat; other choices included bacon or chicken tenders. Gravy choices were white gravy or cheese gravy. We never heard of cheese gravy so of course he tried it. He opted for country potatoes. He said his meal was great. He loved the cheese gravy (I did not) and the potatoes were really tasty. Biscuits were fluffy. Had the opportunity to try Kitchen Tales this evening with a takeout. I ordered the Braised pork shank and Roasted Cornish hen dinners. The Braised pork shank was prepared the furthest thing from a Braise. It was deep fat fried, bone dry and inedible. The roasted Cornish hen again was NOT prepared the way their menu advertised. Again deep fat fried, no flavor or seasoning and very overcooked and dry as well. I do not like to leave a review like such but an establishment cannot serve food like this to their patrons regardless whether it be dine-in or takeout. read more

Found this place while driving on 105 by Lake Conroe. The name was catchy so what the hell, we'll give it a try. It's before 10am Sunday morning so we got in and seated quickly. The place is roomy with plenty seating and they have the belt-driven ceiling fans that I haven't seen in a long time. There is a full bar for cocktails and the mimosas and Bloody Marys were flowing. The coffee is good and the service friendly. Ranchero Hash with biscuit and side of gravy was awesome. Nice proper cat-head biscuit, not the square cut sheet pan type that I can't stand. Thick gravy with just the right amount of black pepper. Gf loved the blueberry pancake and sausage. Odd decor of wine bottle racks high on the wall and various utensils hanging around. We didn't order eggs Benedict, but we saw a few orders come out. Be hungry, they are quite large and served with two eggs. I will try this next time. It is always 5 o'clock here. Came to visit my family out in the Texas area, and found what I thought would be a nice spot to eat with family. Upon arrival, the energy of the restaurant shifted once my family walked in. The host and everyone in the restaurant stared at my party of 6 as if we were supposed to not walk into this restaurant. There were so many table options in the back area, but the host decided to seat us at the table closest to the entrance door. My family and I looked at each other bc the tension was THAT uncomfortable. I was ready to leave immediately, but my family is big on manners, and they thought it would be rude to leave, so I had to reluctantly sit and eat at this establishment. I asked the waiter/host if the lobster in the salad came hot or cold , and he abruptly cut me short to say "I've never ordered that, so I don't know"; to which I had to respond saying "now would be the time where you tell me you need to ask the chef". Ended up ordering the salad, which was fresh. My uncle liked the fried chicken and my cousin enjoyed the crab balls.
