Went here on a Sunday morning with Menudo on my mind. I ordered a small menudo and the juevos rancheros with both red and green sauce. The eggs were a perfect over easy the way I ordered. Neither salsa really had any flavor. The red was tomato-e and not much else. The green was pretty bland as well. As for the menudo, I cannot speak of it as it never came. My whole reason for going there was for menudo. When I asked, I was given an excuse, as I declined the order as that time. I see no reason to return. First, the queso was cold and the flour tortilla chips it came with were stale. I got the cheese enchiladas plate. The rice was cold and had alot of hard bits in it. The enchiladas were tough like it had either been over cooked or sitting for too long. I ordered a plate of 3, was only give 2 and then to add the 3rd one on I was up charged $2.25 over what the price for the 3 enchilada plate would have been? Even though it was the kitchen and/or waitress's mistake. The fajita meat was super tough. I typically don't leave reviews but definitely a huge let down and won't be back. read more

Street tacos are good, the sauces they have are pretty hot, the Margaritas are pretty standard mix from a Mexican restaurant (nothing special) and the fajitas were alright. Would recommend mixing the margarita mix with at least half lime juice to make them taste better/not so cheap. read more

I asked for enchiladas to go and requested the white cheese. The filling was Jack and the top was some white shredded cheese, chopped red onions and lettuce. Mestizos wasn't bad but it just wasn't really authentic Mexican food. It's more authentic then Pappasitos but definitely no where near as authentic as a taqueria. When you arrive they give you chips and salsa but both of their salsas aren't spicy at all. Their menu says homemade tortillas but i'm guessing that has to be the flour tortillas. We ordered corn and they were clearly not homemade. I ordered the torta mestizo and it came with a side of fries but the fries were frozen fries. I would've preferred fresh cut or at least steak fries. As for the torta, I would have preferred a big piece of milanesa as opposed to the pieces of cut milanesa in the torta. That's just a personal preference. Overall nothing tasted bad, but nothing really stood out as delicious and worth going out of your way to go to Mesitzos. read more

Let me start by saying I am mad at anyone who left a good review which led me to come here and waste calories. I will start with the good...the chips are good and the salsa is passing. The chile con queso has no chiles; it is simply canned nacho cheese and is saltier than the Great Salt Lake. We even put some salsa in to try to make it edible but that didn't work either. Our meals were pretty flavorless, me with the chile relleno (with a different sauce than I ordered) and my friend with the fish tacos. Pretty bland. Just. Don't. Do. It. Love the fajitas. Tender and flavorful. I really like having red and green salsas offered. Refried beans have a great flavor. I think the order of fajitas should come with shredded cheese however and not charged extra for it. Soft drinks are $2.50 so order water or better yet a beer for that price. Overall a great place. Quaint smaller scale Mexican Restaurant. Service was a little slow but hoping for an improvement if we come back. Oh and they have a jukebox if that is something that interests you. read more

This used to be our favorite place for the best burritos in town, but that quickly changed when management raised prices for the second time and then hired a bunch of new staff. The service is slow, forget about your drinks getting refilled... that requires standing up and walking to the bar. The margaritas are horrible, much better when they had a bartender named Edgar who I haven't seen in weeks. This was our weekly place to go after a long work day, but we've been passing it up more and more lately as service has been getting worse instead of better. This is small restaurant that is in the middle of expanding into the space next door for reasons I can see why. This is one of those spots where you can see the kitchen from the dining area, which is something I love for you can see the freshness of all the ingredients and see how exactly they are preparing your food. I have been here twice and both times the servers I had have been phenomenal and eager to help by going above and beyond both times. First, let's talk about the chips and salsa. The chips have a nice firmness to them so they are not going to break easily by dipping them into their salsas, queso, or beans. The red salsa, while not super spicy, has nice taste and warmness to it that gives a nice burst of flavors. The green salsa is more thick and cold and has a great flavor to it without over-powering spice. All the makings of a good salsa, flavors over heat. My first trip there I had their Chicken Enchiladas with the Chipotle sauce. The Sauce has the amazing chipotle flavor without killing it with the heat. I love super spicy stuff, but when the flavors are popping it doesn't matter. The chicken was tender and juicy and just about perfectly cooked as you can get. The refried beans and rice were just about average, but it was a healthy portion of them, which makes up for it, plus the price for it is super affordable. My mom got a half-order of Chicken Quesadillas and we could have sworn it was a full order and it was one of the best Chicken Quesadillas she has had. Today we went back and split their Fajitas for two; she got chicken and I got beef and we ordered some queso. The queso was delicious and came out quick after ordering, but it felt a little cold. It wasn't freezing by any means, but not as hot as I like mine personally. The Fajitas arrived about 5 minutes after the queso and we were surprised at how fast they came out. First things first, they were sizzling up a storm, which we haven't seen for a while now from the places in the area. Now the chicken of course was on fire yet again, but the beef was so tender it almost melted in my mouth and was exploding with juices. The Guac on the side was super creamy and the onions had a nice caramelized flavor to them. This time I had their Charro Beans and as someone who is not a big fan of Charro Beans, these were the best I ever had. I most certainly plan on returning. read more

I wanted to love Mestizos so much but they left a lot to be desired in terms of food. I'll start with the positives. Our waitress was beautiful and sweet. She was very attentive and made sure we didn't need anything while we dined. The guacamole was flavorful and chunky just like I like it. It did have a little more salt than I would normally add but I didn mind it at all. I did notice that the decorative red, green, and white, tortilla chips that were placed in the bowl were soggy and cold like they had been sitting for some time. We ordered the Chile con queso as another appetizer. I was immediately disappointed in it. It was literally a bowl of velveeta cheese with onion and tomato on top. The cheese was cold and congealed and had absolutely no flavor. The red salsa had some spice to it which I like but also resembled burned puréed vegetables. I'm not sure what their process is for charring the onion and peppers that go in the salsa but it had an unpleasant aftertaste for sure. For my entree I ordered the ground beef enchiladas with creamy poblano sauce. The entree as a whole was "decent" nothing terrible and conversely nothing I would crave again. All in all I was disappointed with the one noted, bland dishes Mestizos was serving. I hope they take a look at their recipes and make a few adjustments. I like coming here cuz i order breakfest tacos the way I like them and thats without egg. The waitress tells me they have to come with eggs and you can order the bacon on side. I was like What? It was a really good experience! The food and drinks came out fast and the service was on point. The red salsa and green salsa that they make are deliciosó. Carnitas and barbacoa tacos are good to try. Along with the combo fajita (the shrimp was so good) also delicious. The chef seems to take pride in the dishes, which is fantastic. Overall a decent place. Decent food the carnitas had a weird after taste but I don't blame the restaurant, they can taste like that sometimes. Fajitas a la Mexicana were good can't deny it. The red salsa offered with the chips is the bomb. Service is good but it gets better if you are white. So as long as you bring your white skin you will get 5 stars service. Oh and the kids eat free on sundays. Offer greatly appreciated for us parents. I just wish this average looking Mexican would've felt welcomed at this Mexican restaurant.
