I am so sorry, but this coffee was not good. I am no expert, but I do ship my coffee in directly from small farms in the Caribbean and have perfected my expresso game at home. I got 2 different espresso drinks today at Metric and both were terrible. At first I thought they made a mistake with mine, but then tasted my partners. It's seems as though there reviews are mixed and I am not the only one that feel a the same way. Definitely try it for yourself but then branch out and try others. Coffee is EXPENSIVE. Almost $10 when you add any tip for a one size iced latte. Coffee was just okay. Have had much better in and around the area and was sad to not been amazed for the price point. It is cool to watch them roast the beans in store but there is no where to sit to do so. read more

Came here for our weekend coffee trip which we always look forward to. I always order a triple shot latte and I've always had it in the smaller sized cup for ratio sake(I don't like all the milk). My fiancé came out with our order and it was in a large cup and tasted like mostly milk. Instead of being a Karen and demanding they make me a new drink in a small cup, I went in and ordered a new one and specifically asked them to put it in the smaller cup. When the barista made the order it came out in a large cup again. I nicely said, 'I asked for this in a smaller cup,' fully expecting him to make me a new one. Instead, in front of my eyes he pours some of the large, milky one he had already made into a small cup. I was speechless, given the fact they made a mistake and you pay a premium for coffee here and he basically is shorting me now on the espresso I paid extra for. I didn't even know what to say, it was insulting and straight up rude. Wish I had said something at the time but I didn't feel like having a confrontation over coffee. All in paid around $25 for two bad drinks and poor customer service. Will be trying other places next time, unfortunately. read more

I was early for a meeting in the area and stopped in for a coffee on the patio. I never noticed it before so was excited to check out a local coffee spot. It was a so-so experience. The staff wasn't very friendly that I interacted with. Additionally, the coffee tasted burnt so it was disappointing;especially since it was almost $5 for a 12 oz coffee. Metric coffee is a gem of a coffee roaster in Chicago. Not only are they roasting their own beans, but they're crafting delicious drinks, serving Brite baked goods and have a stellar crew doing it. The hubby and I are always on the hunt for coffee roasters and are down to buy beans with warm notes that pair with our preferred flavor profile. We bought a bag of the En Masse beans which came with a free drip coffee of the day. Along with that, I ordered a cortado with oat milk while the hubby ordered an iced vanilla oat latte to follow his black coffee. I was in a snacky snack mood, so I added the vegan orange bun to go with my coffee. All items were delicious and devoured before we left. The sun was shining that Sunday, so we picked the sunniest table outside and soaked up the rays. While I'm sad to no longer be on vacation, I'm currently drinking the coffee from the En Masse beans we brought back home and thinking fondly of Metric. read more

Swung by Metric Coffee in West Town to grab a quick cortado and the seasonal Honduras cold brew, both were solid. Cortado had a sharp espresso kick smoothed out by velvety microfoam, and the cold brew had this mellow caramel‑fruit vibe that hit just right. Baristas were laid‑back but legit knew their beans, didn't charge me extra for oat milk, which I appreciated. Space's got that pared‑down industrial‑Scandi look with exposed brick and a glass divider so you can watch them roast, super clean, techy‑chic vibe. Patio's dope in the summer but inside is tight during rush hours. Only ding is prices are up there compared to corner shops, but you're paying for craft and transparency. After having a delicious latte at Lula Cafe using Metric beans, I wanted to go to the source. The line was long and it didn't move for a long time. When I got to the door, I realized only 3 people were allowed in at a time. If someone orders say 6 drinks, you hope you dressed warmly! I was sad they were out of one very interesting banana chocolate milk drink. I settled for another vanilla latte, the same at Lula Cafe, but Lula's was better to be honest. I ordered an apple cranberry mochi donut after a delicious one at Gaijin the night before. It was great but a little more chewy and dense. We also got a raspberry cruller which was light and bright and flavorful! I wish we'd ordered another as I didn't want to share! Came here for a quick cup of coffee. Ended up ordering a latte. The staff here was great. Very friendly and welcoming. The inside however is rather small and with no place to sit. Not that I wasnt planning on sitting anyways, so it didn't really bother me, but a just a note for those who like to lounge around while sipping on their coffee. The latte itself was really good. Didnt taste like a regular latte either. It had a unique flavor that I can't really quite put figure out but it was certainly good. For years, I have been on edge about visiting a coffee shop without interior seats, but a friend swore by Metric's quality, so we went. Completely worth it, possibly the best cappuccino I've had. I don't consider myself a coffee aficionado or even a real coffee drinker. Believe it or not, I've never had a straight cup of coffee in my life. .. only mochas, cappuccinos, lattes, dalgonas etc. I've grown to appreciate to not so subtle differences across roasts and brands. Metric is easily my favorite. I find their coffees to be bold and smooth. Take my review with a grain of salt, but I think my view is in line with a lot 'real' coffee drinkers, lol. They sell apparel including cycling gear. Coffee beans are offered whole if you prefer to grind at home. I've attended private events, tours and enjoyed my fair share of beverages at this location. The staff has always been attentive and produce consist drinks. They also introduced me to Oatly a few years ago. It's been my preferred milk since. Metric is the standard. read more

I heard that there was a buzz here at Metric and I had an opportunity to try the coffee here on a Saturday morning. I waited in the long line as everyone did patiently. the wait was not that long and was pretty fast as you can see people coming out at the other end of the store. I finally got in the door to see that there is a single line in. There were one person who managed the register and took the order and the other two was the barista. The menu was on a 8x11 sheet and I ordered a Americano $4. Where I waited I was near the music which was loud and I could barely hear my coffee being announced. two people behind me got their coffee order and I was still waiting. After 3 additional minutes. I asked if that coffee there on the counter was my Americano and they said "yes". What I liked was that they roasted their own beans the cost was neutral the taste of my Americano was light. The vibes are incredible but the coffee was pretty average. It was pretty busy for a Sunday afternoon and I waited about 15 minutes in line, but it moved pretty quickly so I didn't mind. I got the chocolate croissant and oat milk latte. The croissant was just ok, not super flakey but good chocolate flavor. This a quick cool spot for commuters and those working in the area. There is a small patio out front, no indoor seating though. The apple pimento croissant was to die for!!! There are a lot of small, independent coffee shops in Chicago and this one of the better ones. Metric started out only as roastery, but in the past few years it made the successful transition to a retail outlet and coffee shop. There are a lot of reasons why this is a must visit coffee shop. First, the coffee is amazing. On my last visit, I got a oak milk latte. It was great tasting and made with well roasted coffee. The oat milk made the latte so creamy, just like I like it. Second, the interior is very cool. The inside is modern and they do not have walls between the retail space and the roastery. It's cool to see their cool roasting machine while you buy your coffee. Third, they have very good pastries and donuts. There are some negatives. First, it is very expensive. On my visit, I got two large oat milk lattes and one donut, and it coat more than $17.00. While Metric is more pricey that other independent coffee shops, you do get great quality. Second, it's located bit out of the way. It's a little west of the Fulton Market in an industrial area. Basically, it's hard to walk here. You will have to drive. However, the location gives it the aura of the hidden gem that it is. Overall, Metric needs to be on your coffee shop must visit list. read more

Metric coffee is one fantastic spot for locally roasted coffee, interesting pastries and the best customer service. Hands down, my favorite!! The location is unique. It seems to service the manufacturing crowd in the neighborhood. I have family that live nearby so I found it by accident. I am so happy I did. The other day I brought a friend who is a coffee aficionado and she could not stop raving about her experience. They roast their beans on location and you can tell. Rich flavor with no harsh finish. Coffee for purchase to take home is available as well. It was late in the day so we bought several donuts as they were Buy 1 Get 1. I'm so glad we're we're able to try several flavors. The girl at the counter and the barista were so sweet and personable. She shared that she's originally from Miami as we chatted about traveling. We were loving the vibe of industrial location, groovy music, super service and fantastic coffee. This is NOT your average "coffee shop" people. Nice little coffee shop that runs an independently run donut shop as well. The staff was very pleasant and answered any and all questions. If you're a coffee addict like myself, they have a wonderful selection of beans as well! I'm a huge fan of tiny coffee spots like this, especially when you happen upon them by chance. There's a small outside seating area, perfect for a nice Sunday morning, and plenty of street parking. I got a cortado with honey and it was delicious! I'm not much of a coffee snob so I don't get hints of agave or dragonfruit or whatever. But I absolutely loved it, and will definitely come back to get another one, along with a box of donuts for one. Places like this, it's more about the experience. Awesome find on our way from Garfield Park Conservatory to the bean downtown. The parking gods were on our side and we scored a spot right in front. Ordered a latte and oat milk mocha. They both came with fancy designs on their tops. And, my first mocha was made with regular milk. Thankfully the barista realized this and I didn't drink it. He quickly made another one and apologized. I was super happy to learn none of their chocolate has milk!! Woohoo! This meant I could get the mocha without any issues!!
