I cannot praise Joe at Metric Tech enough! My car basically died on me while I was merging onto the freeway and there was nowhere to quickly pull over to safety. Everyone was honking at me and I had a full blown panic attack - super scary! Once I was able to get off the freeway I knew I would need to have my car towed, but the question was to where? I called a shop I had been to years before but it turned out they no longer had an onsite mechanic. Yelp to the rescue! I found Metric Tech and gave them a call. Joe answered the phone and I'm sure I was speaking erratically as I was still a bit frantic from what had happened, but he told me to come on by! Once I arrived, Joe greeted me with the most kind and calming presence. I was so tense from the situation and he really helped reassure me that everything would be fine. I felt bad because it was closing time, but I never once felt rushed. Joe even waited patiently as I called around to some local car rental places with no luck. I was prepared to walk home but Joe SO generously offered me a ride home. I'd also like to point out how impressed I was with all of the COVID safety precautions Joe has in place. His front desk area was clean to the max. There was hand sanitizer, wipes, and clean/dirty pen cups. He had steering wheel, seat and shift knob covers. He even disinfected my key and put it into a little tiny sealed bag! My car was fixed within a couple of days and I'm so happy to have it back and driving perfectly! The best and most honest mechanic in The Bay Area peninsula! My old 2001 Honda Civic was over heating. The first mechanic I took it to said it was a cracked radiator. So I got that replaced. But then my car was STILL overheating! Turns out it was a thermostat problem and hoses. So Joe fixed it no problem and did it in within a couple of hours. I took my 2017 Pacifica minivan to Metric Tech with some aftermarket brake parts (rotors, calipers, and pads) thinking that it would be a simple matter of just dropping them in (Powerstop said they were built to OE specs!). Turns out it was a much harder job than I thought and despite the difficulty, Joe did an absolutely amazing job adjusting what needed adjusting, spending more time than I deserved on it, and then refused to charge me for that extra time. An honest mechanic is hard to find in my experience, so you better believe I'll be back here for ALL of my automotive needs. Not only is Joe skilled as a mechanic, he's an amazingly nice person. Can't say enough good things about Joe and Metric Tech. I've been trying to track down a loud chirping and rattling sound for half a year after a dealer did some warranty work on the engine (pulling the engine out). Dealer refused to believe it was their doing seeing as a "Master Tech" did the job and wanted to charge me close to $500 just to check it and stated that they probably wouldn't find it, and if they did, would still charge me as it wasn't a mistake on their end. Joe was kind of enough and very reasonable to find the rattle was a missing nut/bolt and fixed it promptly. He responds quickly to requests and keeps you updated on the progress as well as providing videos/photos of what he did (in this case, the missing nut/bolt). Thank you so much! My car was making a crazy loud noise and my dealership had diagnosed it as a bad wheel bearing and wanted to charge me a small fortune to fix it. I immediately called Joe who quoted me at a significant amount less. Because of COVID I hadn't been driving my car at all, so I when I called him back about 2 months later I didn't expect him to remember me--but he did! I had my car in the shop the next day and a day after had it back, wheel bearing replaced, wheels aligned, and some extra TLC given to my car. My parent's brought their 2009 Mini Cooper to be serviced at the Mini-Cooper dealership on Mission Street in SF . They were charge $800 for a simple oil change and was told that other parts of their car needed work. All told, the estimate was close to $5000. My parents are in their late 70s and english is their second language...so when they told me about the egregious estimate, I immediately knew they were being taken advantage of so I immediately contacted Joe. Joe took a look at the car and found nothing wrong with the car except for a sensor light that needed to be replaced and a simple alignment that needed to be done to the back tires. His estimate was under $300!!!! Unscrupulous mechanics like the ones at Mini Cooper tend to be the norm now, so when you come across an honest and good mechanic like Joe Boyd, be grateful that people like him still exist in this world. I highly recommend him to anyone and would give him 10 stars if I could. And now...I will be writing a scathing review for Mini Cooper SF. Those assholes should be reported to the BBB. read more

I moved to the peninsula a few years ago and shortly after getting there found myself in need of a mechanic. I just want to say Joe is WONDERFUL, honest, and most Trust worthy mechanic ! I took my car for an inspection to another shop, and the car won't run anymore. I was first referred to Metric Tech when I had symptoms pointing to a cracked head gasket...in fact, several friends of mine - all more motor-minded than I - agreed that it sounded like I was in for some serious repair cost. People who take their cars to this guy have way too much money to throw away. I wouldn't trust this scheister to put air in my tires. And integrity? One full hour to diagnose something mechanical, two hours tops- that's a proficient mechanic. This guy can take up to fours to find something simple. And then charge you for it. When your car needs a part that's not in his shop- while he's waiting for the item to come in, and he's working on another car, he's still billing you for the time it takes for the parts driver to bring the part in. Not good business or a good mechanic. This clown should stick to lube pits only. Joe knows he's "gaffled" a lot of suckers. Channel 7 on my side needs to pay this guy a visit. read more
