Cars suck. Going to the car shop sucks even more. At the Shop Auto Repair seems like it's run by a wife-husband duo, and they made getting car repairs less sucky. My tires have been squeaking and I figured it was time to get them checked out. Total cost was ~$620 for brake pads and disks? Idk lol they can list out different parts and I wouldn't fully understand anyway. But seems like it did the job. Nick noticed an oil leak! And he was right! Another thing to worry about! Overall, I had a very good experience with At the Shop, and I would not hesitate to let Nick do additional work for me. I brought it an older car which had a slipping transmission. The rebuild took a couple of weeks, so I did have to rent a car. Not the shop's fault, but it was an extra few days until the work could get started. I asked them to also look for other potential issues with the car, and there were no real surprises. They also rotated the tires and changed the oil. Prices were fair.. not super low, but I think the good service in a high cost area needs to be factored in. Nick and his wife (who runs the shop office) are knowledgeable, ethical, polite and easy to work with. Before I went to Nick, my 1966 Ford Mustang was a death trap. The wheels were horrifically misaligned. Also, the brakes were shoddy and pulled sharply to the left. And lastly, the battery wouldn't stay charged. If I could actually get this thing to start, the car felt as if it were on ice skates. And if I wanted to stop, it'd take an entire football field to do so. Nick made this car drive 100 times more pleasant to drive and 100 times safer. I brought my Honda for 30k miles maintenance to this shop. Asked Nick to check what needs to be done for this mileage and dropped the car. He called me a bit later saying it's just an oil change and few regular inspections (like brake pads, etc). I was surprised, bc I checked it online and there was also brake and transmission fluids change on Honda website, but he said no. So here is the outcome of my visit: 1. $170 for oil change + tire rotation (without cabin/air filters). Same price Honda Steven's Creek charged me for full maintenance (with filters) before. 2. A week later engine cover at the bottom fell off on a highway. The bolts were missing. So I had to buy it on Ebay and fix myself. There is no way it could've happened if he had tighten the bolts properly during oil change. 3. And here is the culmination: when I went to Honda dealership for the next service - 37.5k miles, they asked if brake & transmission fluids were changed at 30k miles. Because they should've been. Highly recommend! Nick took my car in on a moments notice, diagnosed it, gave me a really good quote on replacing my alternator, completed extra work I requested and his shop had my car ready by the end of the day. He also recommended some other work that I should prepare for, but in no way did he push for more work to be done, which I appreciated as well. Although, spending money on a car is never fun or cheap he made the experience very pleasant and I never felt like I was being taken advantage of, like I often do in similar situations. I must say I'm really happy with the service I'm getting here. The owner is very friendly and courteous and I've practically always managed to get my car looked at without an appointment. The best help I got was when I had issues with lack of power at higher RPM. I said there was a strange rattling noise about each time I started the car and I was told it must be the catalytic converter. Indeed it was! After a change the same day, my 2003 Buick LeSabre was running as new. The V6 is happy again and will happily get me from 70 to 90 in no time if a quick overtake is in order. Came here on a Saturday after my car window had been smashed in in the city the previous night. Obviously I was very upset and frantically searching for a good auto repair shop that's open on weekends (surprisingly hard to find.) Enter, "At the Shop" Auto Repair. I called Nik, told him what happened, and he said he'd call me back in a few minutes after he looked into the availability of my particular window. Sure enough, he calls back 5 minutes later saying the only available part on a weekend was all the way in SF. Oh no! To my utter surprise, Nik said he'd drive up to get the part. Compare this with some of the other SM shops I had called. All gave similar quotes, but said they couldn't order the part until Monday, which means they wouldn't receive it and do the installation until Tuesday. Uh, guys, there's a freaking hole in my car. I can't wait 4 days. Nik had my car in and out the same day. He was very friendly and professional. But the cherry on top? Other places told me that they wouldn't clean up any shattered glass--I'd have to take my car to a car wash for that. Not Nik. My car was absolutely free of glass. He also alerted me to the fact that I needed an oil change and my rear tail light was out and offered, politely, if I wanted him to do those services at the same time.
