How are other reviewers giving 4 or 5 stars ? As much as I like the owner (a woman), the food was just terrible. Indian cooking is known for the 3 C's: Cumin, Coriander, and Cardamom. Virtually every dish was bland and flavorless. The Tandoori Chicken was dry and over cooked, the butter Chicken was tough to chew. Samosas ? Forget about it. The food was okay, but the service was inconsistent. The first time I came her, the Shahi paneer with rice was $4.00. About two weeks later, I had to pay 1.50 more for rice. One day, the take-out lunch buffet is $6. The lady is very friendly, and gives me hot bread to go once I'm done filling my take-out box. They call themselves the Samosa Factory -and they live up to their name. An auntie/uncle team who can churn out hundreds of samosas for you really quickly and they're always good. A bit spicy for some more timid eaters, but a little sweet chutney (or ketchup for the unorthodox) helps calm that spice level down. One or two times they samosas have had that 'old oil' smell - but it's been a pretty rare occurrence. They're generally pretty good about having your samosas ready to go at the time you said (sometimes you have to wait a couple of minutes). I vaguely remember eating here once many years ago, and was not at all impressed by the food (or the ambiance) so I've only stopped in to pick up trays of samosas since then. A little dated and kind of weird at first BUT THE FOOD! $6 for probably the best Indian buffet I've ever had. Samosas and chutney totally delicious, and the buffet offers 8 different items. With all due respect to the Aunty and Uncle who run this place, this place has the worst Butter Chicken I have tasted all over the country. Imagine water floating on the curry with shredded chicken that has no taste. That's because the curry has no gravy, just chicken in water. ( !! ) On the brighter side, the samosas are fresh, the chutney and the pickle are good. The naan was soft. Oh don't even think about the rice, it still needs to get the amount of water right. Poor customer service. We placed an office order for two separate orders butter chicken which is what i enjoyed from here. When one communicated there is an order for an office, you don't combine 2 orders of a dish into a larger container which is normal regular order. (Portions are very small). I called at office and explained to female owner, she says come back. I did on way home from work and male owner says they gave the correct food and charged tne correct amount and wouldn't honor her statement. I did not receive what she promised. My co-worker said his tandoori chicken was reheated and dry, the butter chicken that the one employee ate said it was good. I was looking forward to it but that male owner had no sense of cust service that the wife was trying to uphold in the beginning. This place gets an "F" for FAIL. First of all... they bought out il Forno's (pizzeria) and never changed the name, apparently in an effort to keep customers. Please do not let the name fool you. Just ordered through a delivery service, a Napolitana Salad, what I got instead was a bunch of dirty unevenly cut up raw green peppers, soft mushy raw carrots (how is this even possible) and brown shredded iceburg lettuce. Google "Napolitana Salad" and you'll see why this is beyond absurd. I also made the mistake of ordering a large Calzone. Inside of this "calzone" is a bunch of bland ricotta cheese, bland sauce that tastes like it came out of a spagetti-o's can, and some strips of some kind of meat. The meat looks like strips of brown paper. WT_ is this? Seriously. I will NEVER order from this place again, and I highly advise you to not try it yourself. They need to change the name and stop trying to double as an italian pizzeria. From what I understand, their indian food is also a fail. You'd be better off getting Pizza from Slice of Rockville and indian food from Spice Xing. ALERT: I also question the cleanliness of this place. read more

Unbelievably RUDE owner. I ordered samosa on the phone for a party and since I was serving other items and don't want people to fill up on the samosa, I kindly ask them if they would be willing to cut them in half. When my friend went to pick up the samosa for me, the old lady (I think owner) was rude to him as well and said "who asks for samosas to be cut anyways, we don't want business from your kind of people... " I don't even understand what's the big deal about cutting the samosa in half, if they don't do it, just say they don't do it, but to hung up the phone and saying rude comments to the person picking up is unacceptable. I have been coming to this place for decades ever since they opened on Rt 355 below Shady Grove, and then moved into the current location after they bought the IL Forno pizza franchize. They still use the wood fired oven. I am not going to repeat what many who have given 5 stars to this place have already said. First, you have to understand there is no pretense here is you know what a Dhaba is. A Dhaba in Northern India is a truck stop type informal eatery. Food often the best. For ambience, think a truck stop in Asia, not in US. This is a few notches up. As once an Israeli American friend of mine said, you can't have excellent food without the smell of a fuel truck nearby. No fuel smell here, but you should get the idea. Don't come here for the ambience, come for the food. Or, just do carry out. Rarely any food is disappointing. Excellent vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes. Just to mention a couple of our favorites. This place is known as the samosa factory. Fresh out of the frying pan. (Don't expect them to cut them in halves for you, as one disappointed reviewer expected.) Once you have had their bhajias or pakoras, hush puppies will no longer be enough. Curries like lamb Rogan Josh are very good. Some reviewers complained about the buffet. Clearly unreasonable to expect $12 variety for half the price. I prefer a la carte and usually take out. Been coming here for years, this is the last Gaithersburg staple (RIP Ricky's Rice Bowl). Inside an Italian restaurant that makes dank wood fired pizza is actually a really good Indian restaurant. They have a super cheap lunch buffet with options for vegans and meat eaters alike. The best thing by far here are their veggie samosas. 50 cents a samosa and they are large potato filled pastries with peas and spices. They have a few at a time available during the lunch buffet but you got to have them refill it. Also they have sweet brown chutney or spicy green chutney that goes great with the samosas. read more

We went there to try the samosas after reading all of the reviews on yelp. This is a family owned business setup in what was originally a pizza restaurant. Not the best ambiance and while it smelt delicious we did not order any food, but purchased a dozen samosas as a carry out order to take along with us to a party. The samosas were delicious and were a big hit! we can't wait to visit this restaurant the next time we are in Gaithersburg. The sweet tamarind chutney is not included and while there is an extra charge for it this is still one of the best deals around. Had the Chicken Curry, Bengan Bartha (Egg plant roasted), rice, naan and some Samosas to share with co-workers back at the office. It was very tasty, perfect amount of aromatics and spices but not overly done where you can't taste your food. One of the worst places to have Indian food After reading all these reviews about how good the food and samosas are, we thought of trying it out. The place looked deserted and the owner thinks he is a great academic, who is doing service to community by running this place The chole and samosa served were cold and probably made a day or two before. They were also smelling. When we told the owner about this, he asked told us he is highly educated and doesn't care if people don't like food.
