Garlic Naan

I used to pass by this restaurant many times whenever I would come to Rockville; so while we had family visiting in town, we decided to check it out. I would say that the real stars of our visit would be the non-veg dishes ie the Chicken Nilgiri and Rockfish. The Gol Gappe (Pani Puri) was pretty good too. We have mixed feelings about the Papri Chaat which we felt was missing that extra tang that came from the spices and parts of it were a little soggy due to the amount of yogurt. Some members of my family are vegetarian, so we opted to get the Paneer. Unfortunately, we did not enjoy it very much. The gravy was certainly more tomatoey and sweet. We were pleased with the service. The staff was polite and welcoming. The ambience made you feel like you were at home with its bright colors, assortment of Indian decorations and the vast collection of spices along the kitchen walls. I can tell this establishment has been around for many years as many locals continue to order from it. I would like to give it another try if we decide to come again.

The chicken tikka makhani, saag paneer and chicken biryani are amazing!! I cannot wait to come back to try more dishes. The food came out quickly and the service was attentive.

The food was great! And the service was excellent! Will definitely be going back. Especially for their samosas!

Samosas with Chutneys that were served on the side, but I put the chutneys on this place. These were delicious.

The food was delicious, the timing of the food was good. The service was awesome. I wish the portions were bigger enough to take home, but this is Rockville and inflation going on. The vibes were well, mediocre. I just used to ordering biryani and getting like a box full. Maybe it's just depends on the location. Maybe I will try carry out once and check out the portions then. The Chicken Biryani. The portion for a Biryani is usually bigger. Those crunchy onions were a hit or miss. Raisins and nuts were unnecessary. Chicken, I prefer authentic and bone-in. Very small portion with small chicken pieces. The flavor was delicious so I commend them for that. I would've preffered the Indian salad.

It was towards the end of the night for them on a weekday, and I just wanted a gin soda. It's a rare occasion for me to he asked whether I want a single or double. So I enjoyed that, and noticed how big the place actually is. I feel like the only thing it's missing is a pool table, haha (unless I missed it). They have an excellent happy hour that I would love to try if I was in the area, but it's kind of far from home. Based on recent reviews, things do seem to be mixed, and I didn't try the food. But I most likely will the next time that I go, whenever that is. I appreciate it the friendly staff, the music, and the vibe of the place and I would recommend it to anyone in the area for drinks at least.

When we walked in, nostalgia hit me since the inside of this place looks like a place my family used to frequent in Florida. A younger guy came over to us, we told him there was five in our party and he said he would have to talk to his manager even though there were five or six open tables in view. We got a bigger table near the stage area where the bluegrass band set up for the night. The staff seemed straight up frazzled. It was hard to get our servers attention and had to follow up with requests for a few items throughout the night. I got the buffalo tenders and fries and it was passable but barely any sauce and unfortunately that's one of the items that I requested and never got. It took a while too so this one goes onto my list of "I just want to give you money". It. Seems like a lot of the locals love it and have a history here which I love and would love if we had a positive experience but from here on out this place will stay outta the way of memories (I couldn't resist).

My eggs, home fries and bacon were perfect. The food came out hot and fresh. My husband ordered the maple bacon pancakes and while they smelled great and had a nice flavor, they were very dry. The couple next to us had the crabcake sandwich and an omelette and they said they were both great. Just don't think we'll order pancakes next time. Everything else was just great! Very sweet people.

Dear Management, I…read moream writing to share my family's experience during our Father's Day visit to your restaurant. Unfortunately, what should have been a special celebration turned into a very disappointing experience due to the service we received upon arrival. We had a reservation for 4:00 p.m. When we arrived, the gentleman at the host stand was not welcoming or friendly. He simply told us to "step to the side" and that someone would assist us in a few minutes. As the minutes passed, we continued to wait without any communication. During that time, a white family of five walked in without a reservation and was seated immediately. At that point, I approached the host stand to ask what had happened and why we had not been seated despite having a reservation. The host searched for our reservation, asked what time it was scheduled for, and then casually stated, "I think someone stole your table." I was shocked by this response. I asked how that could happen if he was responsible for managing the seating. He had no explanation and, more importantly, never offered an apology for the mistake or the inconvenience. A manager later came over and asked what had happened. After I explained the situation, he appeared genuinely surprised and concerned by what had occurred. Once we were finally seated, our server acknowledged the delay and kindly offered us an appetizer because of the long wait at the front. We appreciated that gesture, but it did not change how unwelcome we had been made to feel upon arrival. I am writing this letter not because I am looking for compensation or anything in return. My purpose is simply to ensure that no other family has a similar experience, especially on a day meant to celebrate loved ones. Every guest deserves to be treated with fairness, courtesy, and respect. A sincere apology from the host at the time of the incident would have gone a long way. I hope you will use this feedback as an opportunity to coach your front-of-house staff on the importance of customer service, communication, and accountability. Thank you for taking the time to read my concerns. Sincerely, Ms. Deas

It's pretty cozy in there, has indoor and outdoor seating. They don't take reservations so it's important to get on the waitlist. We were right on time bc by the time we walked out, the wait was an hour if not more. We both had the morning meditation. It was very refreshing, I love a ginger turmeric blend. Then we snagged items off the summer special menu. The chipotle steak and queso hash, banana brittle French toast, and million $ bacon. Absolutely loved the flavor combination in the French toast--the almond butter crème anglaise and caramelized bananas were the perfect bite of sweet topped with sea salt. I was greedy and added pieces of bacon to each bite. The hash was very good too! The queso was a little more runny than I would've liked but the flavor was there and it was delicious every dip. The service provided was solid, even with a busy packed house. We would definitely return!

I visited this location 3 times, 2 while I lived in Wheaton and one not long after moving away from Montgomery County. Feb. 2019 I used my birthday deal, pretty uneventful good food. Oct. 2020 there was another deal, again uneventful. My 3rd visit was the noteworthy one in March 2021. I recruited a friend to help use my birthday deal expiring fairly soon (as it's a BOGO deal), who lives in Montgomery County and doesn't like driving far. So, I schlepped from my home in western Anne Arundel County over to Rockville as God forbid he would schlep to Watch First in Laurel in PG County (my closest location), Columbia, or anywhere close to me. Food was good per normal. Server was nice and efficient. However, as a polite word in baseball, she made an error. She spilled the cranberry juice all over my friend. I was spared from her error sitting on the opposite side of the booth. At first, she said we can take the cranberry juice off the bill. We said that was weak. Manager came over and was nice saying how about we comp this meal for you. We said that's a lot better. However, I added that my birthday deal will be useless. The manager said he would just take off my meal too, and I could use the birthday deal again. I don't think I ended up using the birthday deal ultimately that year as it was close to expiration. Overall, while the cranberry juice was spilled was not good, the manager was nice & handled this well. First Watch Rockville is overall positive in my experience.
