Pretty good local Indian restaurant. I've read they changed ownership as of October 1, 2025. I wish the previous owners a happy retirement. I know one of their sons is part of the ownership group at Rasa. I see they brought back their very popular lunch buffet during the weekends, so I will need to give that a try. We went during lunch on a Friday, and wanted to try something new, so I got the Masala Grilled Rockfish. It's reasonably priced at $24 and includes two rockfish filets and two pieces of shrimp with broccoli, cauliflower, peas and carrots. I liked this dish a lot. It does have some heat to it. My wife is a big fan of Chicken Biriyani, and this was pretty good though the chicken was a little dry. Will have to try some of the staple dishes I enjoy next time I am back. read more

I hadn't been since the pandemic and decided to give this local favorite another go! Boy am I glad. I left VERY full. Service prompt and food very good. We had the rockfish, veggie thalidomide, garlic naan, and paneer in tomato sauce. I had the national beer of India, the kingfisher. I've been here a number of times for dinner and picked up or gotten delivery. Consistently good food. Last week, I saw that the restaurant was returning to being open for lunch - on Friday, Saturday and Sunday - for their buffet. For the last several years, they had discontinued the lunch hours and only been open for dinner. Today, we came for the lunch buffet. The food overall is very good. Their Chana masala is outstanding. The meat dishes were all well prepared with moist, flavorful meats (chicken, beef and goat). The vegi dishes were also good, especially for me the cauliflower dish. The one weakness today was the naan. It was really, really chewy and difficult to eat. This surprised me, since I had had their naan a number of times and it was usually good. I'm hoping this is a one-off. Today they also offered in a separate area several appetizers, which you could request and they prepared and brought to the table. I don't know if they offer this every day for the buffet, or if it is only on Saturday/Sunday when the buffet price is higher than on Fridays. For dessert, there's fresh fruit and today an outstanding cup containing mango with yogurt and I think granola and other items. Really delicious. The price point for the buffet on Friday is $18.95, which I think is consistent with the few remaining Indian buffets in the area. The weekend price ($23.95 on Sat/Sun) seems a bit high. But it is very good. Service was good with an attentive and friendly Staff. It's a nice, well-lit, comfortable place to dine. read more

Portions are half the size of previous entrees, given one bowl of rice to share between two people. $52 for two entrees and zero leftovers for the first time since we started eating at Bombay Bistro 25 years ago. I used to pass by this restaurant many times whenever I would come to Rockville; so while we had family visiting in town, we decided to check it out. I would say that the real stars of our visit would be the non-veg dishes ie the Chicken Nilgiri and Rockfish. The Gol Gappe (Pani Puri) was pretty good too. We have mixed feelings about the Papri Chaat which we felt was missing that extra tang that came from the spices and parts of it were a little soggy due to the amount of yogurt. Some members of my family are vegetarian, so we opted to get the Paneer. Unfortunately, we did not enjoy it very much. The gravy was certainly more tomatoey and sweet. We were pleased with the service. The staff was polite and welcoming. The ambience made you feel like you were at home with its bright colors, assortment of Indian decorations and the vast collection of spices along the kitchen walls. I can tell this establishment has been around for many years as many locals continue to order from it. I would like to give it another try if we decide to come again. read more

Had a wonderful dinner at Bombay Bistro. The non-veg thali had a little bit of everything; lamb curry, chicken curry, black dal, raita, palak paneer, rice, roti, papad and 2 very welcoming gulab jamuns! Mr. Somnath and Mr. Raju made me feel like being at home and were very hospitable and courteous. This is a great local destination for a wholesome Indian meal. Tandoori chicken (supposedly 1/2 chicken) was raw at the bone on what I think was the breast. The thigh was missing the meat altogether! The Staff was unprofessional. Poorly trained. Maître D looked unkept and scruffy. Whole place needed a DEEP clean! Won't be going back there, ever. Remember it from its heyday and it's sad to see how it's deteriorated. Went for the weekend lunch buffet. It was very underwhelming. Most items didn't taste fresh and seasoning was not right, bland. The yellow rice was not good. Both the upma and the kesari ratio of water to rava was off. The food tastes like it is prepared by someone who doesn't understand Indian ingredients and spices. We had some very good food recently at Bombay Bistro. We hosted a group of four of us recently for dinner at Bombay Bistro in the middle of downtown Rockville. The food was very good, though there were a few hiccups in service and surroundings. We were fortunate to get one of the few parking spaces in the tiny lot, and were warmly welcomed. Unfortunately, the booth they seated us at was extremely tight, even though the hostess tried to move the table a little. So we quickly asked for a non-booth table, and were seated nearby. There's not a lot of extra space in the dining room, so one of the staff was insistent about taking my jacket off my chair and hanging it up for me. That behind us, we perused the interesting menu and started by sharing the samosas and the chutney sampler with pappadoms, along with a mango lassi and a Kingfisher beer for me. We were also presented with a little amuse-bouche of a little glass containing a dumpling--it might have been the menu's vegetable bhajia--which was a lovely bite to start off with. We then ordered chicken tikka makhani, chicken dosa, tandoori lamb chops, and chicken Madras curry for me. My curry was very tasty, not too spicy, and my partner's dosa was impressive, a huge filled pancake, rolled over to more or less fit on the plate. I think we all enjoyed the food very much, and there was plenty to take home for the next day. The service was attentive and pleasant. Upon visiting one of the one-person rest rooms, I was disappointed to find it with no soap. In a small restaurant, that's concerning. Overall, we enjoyed our dinner at Bombay Bistro, and would return. read more

The food was delicious, the timing of the food was good. The service was awesome. I wish the portions were bigger enough to take home, but this is Rockville and inflation going on. The vibes were well, mediocre. I just used to ordering biryani and getting like a box full. Maybe it's just depends on the location. Maybe I will try carry out once and check out the portions then. The Chicken Biryani. The portion for a Biryani is usually bigger. Those crunchy onions were a hit or miss. Raisins and nuts were unnecessary. Chicken, I prefer authentic and bone-in. Overall, the food was bland and uninteresting. Seems like the kitchen is adapting the classical Indian dishes to American taste. Wonderful dinner. Everything was very tasty and the service was nice. We got chicken dosa, tandoori chicken, and a chicken curry. The naan was especially good. This place is definitely in person, but due to the pandemic, my roommate isn't comfortable eating out just yet. They have labels for allergies (my roommate eats only gluten-free dishes), but a lot of their labels were missing from the UberEats menu. After verifying with the restaurant, we ordered 3 dishes to split. Really 2/3 were okay. The saag paneer was bland and lacked the cheese, and I wouldn't get it again. I've had flavorful saag paneer at other places and was disappointed. The chicken tikka makhani was similar to tikka masala and was pretty good. The fish curry was descent as well. Overall, I think this place is better in person. It was kind of mediocre this time. read more

What an amazingly pleasant surprise in August 2022 Ordering Indian food is usally hit or miss for Desi palettes because we tend to be very picky about flavors of our daals, and vegs, and masallas. As a rule, it's impossible to order a bunch of different dishes (we had several different entrés and have all of them turn out okay. Today, however, was a brilliant exception to this rule. Every single one of our Entrées was exceptionally tasty. Bombay Bistro has completely upped there post-covid game. Even if you had tried their place before and thought meh, please go back and give this place another go! We had Lamb Saag, Chicken Chittinad, Daal, butter chicken, and Lamb Biryani--every single one of these was yummy. The depth and the notes of the essence of each dish were superlatively highlighted. The dining room is bright and has windows on two sides. Enjoyed their buffet a few Sundays ago with a good friend. She has been enjoying their food for years. She is a testimony to their food, for the length of time she's been visiting this establishment. Pricing: We decided to go with their buffet, as it had lots of variety and was well-priced. At $11.95 per person, the price was descent for weekend brunch. Most places increase their weekend brunch rate, so this is a real bargain. Ambiance: Warm friendly place, where there were lots of repeat visitors. A few recommended a dish or two. It is an Indian Restaurant, and we love and try this category often. There were a fair amount of South Asian people eating here, on the Sunday we visited, that is a good sign of quality and authenticity.
