The butter chicken is pretty good and so is the garlic naan, which is sized well. Service is quick. Prices are fair enough.

Very disappointing -- especially for $74+ before tip We returned to Tandoori Nights in Kentlands in Gaithersburg for the first time in years. We were really looking forward to it after seeing so many positive recent reviews. Unfortunately, this visit did not live up to expectations. The Raj Kachori appetizer was tasty, but the kachori shell itself was stale and oily. The lamb filling in the Keema Naan was heavy and overpowered the soft, pillowy bread. The meat had a mealy texture and seemed very similar to the lamb kebab also listed on the menu. We would have preferred a more tender and flavorful ground textured filling that complemented the naan rather than overwhelmed. The Tandoori Special Kabob Platter, however, was a major disappointment. The boti kabob fell apart when we tried to pick it up (that us the lamb kabob mentioned earlier), and the other meats were generally dry, heavily seasoned, and overly spicy. The daal makhanni was under-seasoned, and the rice was just okay. I also ordered chai after reading reviews praising the spiced tea with clove, cardamom, and cinnamon. Instead, I received a small tea pot with hit water with a chai tea bag and Cold milk on the side for $4.50. We also noticed that the prices of a few items on the check were a dollar or saw higher than those on the menu. But what really soured the evening was how we were treated as closing time approached. The restaurant's website states that it is open until 10:00 p.m. on weekend nights. At 9:18 p.m., our server told us the kitchen was closing at 9:30, which we understood. Shortly afterward, an older gentleman who appeared to be the owner told us the restaurant was closing at 9:30. A few moments later the music was turned off and the staff began clearing the table in a way that felt extremely rushed. Dishes were being removed practically from our hands. We understand that restaurants need to close on time, but customers who are seated and finishing their meal should not be made to feel like they are being pushed out the door. For a bill of more than $74 before tip, we expected a much better meal and, at the very least, to feel welcome while finishing our dinner. There were a couple of positives-The mango lassi was excellent, and our server was polite, attentive, and courteous-but overall, the food was underwhelming and the way the evening ended was uncomfortable and disappointing. *I've only ever gotten carry-out from here, so I cannot speak to a dine-in experience* Ordering online has always been easy and the food has been ready when estimated. It's a little pricey in my book, but I suppose not overly so compared to many restaurants in the area. My go-to is the Paneer Makhani. Other favorites in the family are the Vegetable Samosa, Chicken Tikka Masala, Chicken Makhani, and Malai Kofta Curry. We also usually order some Garlic Naan as well. The only real catch in my personal experience is the parking situation. It is not located adjacent to any of the surface parking lots in Kentlands, so you will be walking a little bit from somewhere. I don't enjoy walking or driving in Kentlands because people seem to lose their minds driving in there for some reason, so you have to be on the look-out all the time. There is technically street parking right next to the restaurant, but it's hyper competitive, I wish there was a spot or two saved for curbside/pick-ups. I went to pick-up dinner a little after 7 yesterday (a Thursday night) and circled so many times, that it ended up being faster to park over by the Michaels and make the cold walk over. At one point a car was parked diagonally the wrong way in one of the spots, as in they swooped in to take it from the wrong side of the road. So you can imagine how much those spots are left purely up to chance. TLDR/ tasty food; good for carry-out if you are prepared to walk a little or can bring someone to hop out and grab the food. read more

Buffet only review - We come here on occasion for the buffet which has a delicious variety and the staff seem to be on alert so nothing is absent when you are refilling! When you walk in, there's rarely someone at the front so just keep on going to the back where the dining room is... Kind of weird but you get used to it. I'm a pretty big eater so the price for the buffet makes it a deal - If I had to pay full price this would be like a 4, because again, the food is delicious, but maybe not 5 delicious. my husband and I went there on one of our date nights that are so hard to schedule. it was our first time but seemed to have good recommendations. short advice: run away! find a better place for your money and time. ambiance: the decor is nice but you can see it hasn't been kept up. the tables are worn and scratched, the tiles have huge water stains, the vents are covered in dark dirt that was layered and was moving as the ac kicked on. food: we ordered vegetabl pakora and chili paneer. the chili paneer was outstanding. the pakora were crispy on the outside but totally raw in the inside. a lady came to ask us how the food was I showed her the raw dough inside. She apologized and took it back and we waited 15 min before they brought them out again. they were still raw. that lady came again and we showed her the raw dough inside. She said that there was something wrong with their stove where the oil is heating up too much. She very quickly told us that she will bring samosa instead of the pakora. First of all I didn't want samosas. Another 10 minutes later the samosa plate come out. They look like the kind you buy frozen with tortilla as shells and fry them. No way these were made in the restaurant. They even tasted like the frozen ones From grocery store. Unhappily we ate the samosa. Our food came out 55 minutes after we had placed the order (20 minutes after our appetizer plates were removed). We had to ask for water 3 times before our glasses were refilled. we ordered Shahi paneer and navratna korma. The quantity was sad for an $18 dish. But it came out hot, though the taste was Nothing to write home about, basic, pedestrian and not what we would expect from a restaurant. So the main course came out and they gave us rice with it, we had ordered naan and onion kulcha with it. The breads were bright out 17 minutes after the main course. By that time because we were so hungry, we had finished half the food with rice Ab and the other half was completely cold. We sent the breads back because what was the point? there was no one to even ask for the bill. Another wait of 10 minutes. There 3 people going in and out of thr kitchen to outside, but no one was checking on the guests inside. There were 4 groups eating inside. I could see we were all waiting for service. After waiting we went to the bar and asked the guy there to see if we could get our bill. he came immediately to help. We had to ask them to check the bill as we were charged for both the pakoras and the samosa. We explained to him about what had happened and he worked with some one to take the pakoras off. This is a fancy looking place with modern decor and a beautiful bar area but all of that is hiding some issues with service that can't be overlooked. The thing is, I really wanted to like tandoori nights but 3 stars is being generous, it's more like 2.5 and you can get much better Indian food nearby without the service issues. I'll start with the food. It's fine. The chicken 65 is a good app and the saag ghosht had plenty of goat and it was tender and had decent flavor. Nothing spectacular but good. Garlic naan was actually great -- soft and garlicky but not overwhelming. The Malai kofta was good too. Good amount of koftas which is important too me -- not just loads of "gravy". The house margarita is a miss; just too much obvious margarita mix. The mango lassi is a better choice if you are willing to go without booze. All of that would be 3-3.5 for me. The kicker was the service. She was just so inattentive and rude. I ordered a chili paneer app -- she never brought it out and never apologized when I asked for it, just said she forgot and walked away. Hubby was less than halfway through his chicken 65 app when mains were brought out. Definitely some pacing issues. The thing is, there were literally only 2 other tables with customers in the entire restaurant while we were there. So not sure why all the forgetfulness and lack of attention to pacing for the next course but I can forgive that if there is some sense of politeness from the server. But we got nothing but silence. She didn't even check in on us to see if we need anything after we got our mains. We had to ask twice for the check and then the server lost our card and didn't even apologize for that! Luckily she found it but the service was Just ridiculous overall. Things happen, we all make mistakes, but be polite enough to apologize and admit the mistake not just shrug it off and disappear. I didn't yell for my missing app or the lost card or raise my voice in any way but any attempt to communicate was brushed off by her. Anyway, we won't be back and we wouldn't recommend coming here -- there are plenty of other places for good North Indian food in the area with great service too. read more

Had a wonderful night at Tandoori Nights with a friend. Our server was very attentive and helped me pick out a vegan item off of their menu. My favorite dish is baingan bharta but wanted to branch out a little bit and try something new. I ordered the vegetable jalfrezi and it was soooo delicious. The wait staff seemed new but we're attentive and did a great job. The appetizer sampler was alright but not worth $15 in my opinion. The samosa came out cold and the piece of chicken was chewy. Our entrees, on the other hand, were great. My chana masala was Al dente, but I actually liked that the chickpeas had a bit of a crunch to them. My fiance's goat was tender and flavorful. We've been here twice in the last couple of months. The first time was because we were looking for somewhere in Kentlands, and it was convenient and seating was available. The food was so good that we returned as a party of six last night. Again, the food was excellent. Some of the things we ate were samosa and calamari masala for appetizers, plain naan, garlic naan, butter chicken, goat curry, chicken tika masala, and a couple of vegetarian dishes. Everything was excellent. Of particular note, the calamari was terrific and the goat curry was oustanding and enough to bring me back. They got it right! This was an uber eats order that I picked up myself. I asked for all white meat on my butter chicken and to make it mild. And they did exactly that some places don't get it right they did. The sauce was really delicious. I'm pretty hard to please in that respect and I liked it. My husband and I just came here a few hours ago for the lunch buffet. It was not too crowded and we were seated immediately. While the restaurant appeared clean and the staff were kind, I don't think I will ever come here ever again. The food was okay... not the best tasting Indian food but we digress. About 25 minutes after starting to eat, I began to get extremely bad stomach cramps and had to run to the restroom... I'll let you imagine the rest. In the past 3 hours I have not been able to comfortably leave my restroom even after coming home, I am very unwell (from both ends) and I have extremely bad food poisoning. While my husband is not feeling as sick as I am, he has also been dealing with an upset stomach since we came home. I love Indian cuisine, though it true is hard find a good Indian restaurant in MOCO. However, Tandoori Nights will suffice. Their location isnt in indeal spot. If youre not paying attention, you can pass it. I recommend parking on the other side, where the post office is at, plenty of parking and a short walk. Otherwise, youll be circle that side street, and your patience will run out because people make up their own parking by double parking, or blocking the street to get into the side street. As you enter, the host/ or hostess will greet you with a smile. I love how cozy and that it has contemporary decor. For drinks, I def recommend their mango lassi ( yogurt mango milkshake as I call it) It will definetly cool down your palate if your gonna order on the spicy side. As I love love Indian cuisine, You will need to come here on an empty stomach. Naan: Who doesnt like naan?? My favorite is the garlic naan, and I like to dip it in their spicy green sauce. Wow, this place is great and serves wonderful food! BP and I came for lunch on a sleepy Saturday and were only one of two parties dining in at the time. The other group was made up of eight obnoxious 20-something old males who were not only rude to the waiter, but were loud and extremely rowdy. Only six of them actually ordered food. The other two kept asking for the free chutney and pappar. They were so impatient. Granted, I was hungry too, and the food took at least 25 minutes to arrive, but it was well worth the wait. Tuning out the annoying group, BP and I enjoyed our Mango Lassi (creamy, cool, and delicious, worth the almost $4 charge), Chicken Makhani (butter chicken), Chicken Curry, and our assorted naan (cut into quarters, we ordered butter garlic, jalapeno cheese, and Night naan, which was stuffed with shredded tandoori chicken). I cannot get over how well the chicken was cooked. Tender chunks of boneless chicken perfectly coated in the curry. It was so tasty. Much better than I expected. The waiter was kind, patient, and generous because he re-filled our rice without charging extra. My go-to place for Indian cuisine in this area. I've been coming here for about 15-20 years and never been disappointed, except for ordering the " wrong thing" on one occasion ( my bad not a good dish for me). Service has always been good to excellent and they are The only Indian restaurant I frequent in the area which does breads, curry dishes and tandoor grills all with equal excellence. I am a big stickler for Indian breads and make my own roti at home so I truly appreciate well made bread. Decor inside is wonderful and I highly recommend outdoor seating on the patio when weather allows. My only " negative " is I drive here from Frederick, and wish it was closer. If you have not already, try the Raj Kachori appetizer, it's delicious. I also frequently order Vindaloo and their " medium" spice level is right at my maximum tolerance, any further and The heat would outweigh the flavor. I enjoy spicy foods so I am a bit puzzled at the number of people reviewing here who have stated the food can be " bland". Really? Maybe those people were born and raised in India cause.. for the rest of us their spice level is more than adequate and can probably kick your butt if you tell your server you want your meal spicier. As long as I live in this area I'll be coming back despite the loathsome drive on the 270. It's worth the trip. We went with friends. We tried the platter which had sheesh kabob lamb, chicken tikka, veg samosa, veg pakora. I'm not a fan of lamb but this I admits was very tasty. The chicken was tender and juicy- dipped it in tamarind chutney and was delicious. The samosa was a burst of flavor topped with the crunchy pastry on the outside it was awesome. The pakora tasted like it had sweet potatoes and very crunchy. I could have dined in this platter and be happy for the night. The serving was enough for 4 people to share. Super happy with this choice. My gluten-sensitive husband ended up cheating and tried the samosa but mostly ate the lamb and chicken tikka. Our main course was the buttered chicken tikka masala -chicken tikka cooked with cream mix with tomato sauce and butter. I got the paneer makhani cubes of cheese with peas and cooked in cream sauce. It was served with basmati rice with butter which was fluffy tasty and super delish by itself. I enjoyed both dishes and believe me, I could have used a second stomach. The blend of spices and sauces were the stars of this evening meal. The mango lassi went well with the meal and let's not forget the garlic naan. Top notch in my book. Highly recommend! read more

Granted , I have only come during the lunch buffet. It costs $11, or so, per person. The dishes are very well prepared.they have both vegetarian and meat dishes. If you are a strict veterinarian then you I'll find plenty to eat. They also have deserts, usually two. Of the multiple times I have been here I have never been disappointed.
