My friend has been trying to get me to try this place for quite some time. I finally got a chance to today and I definitely plan to come back. I ordered the chicken and waffles. First of all, you get half of a chicken. They mix a little concoction of syrup and hot sauce at your table when you order it but I added more hot sauce. It also comes with a strawberry butter for the waffle. I've had chicken and waffles from many restaurants and this was definitely one of my favs! Met a friend for lunch at Metro Diner in VaBeach on Tues, Feb. 6th. The staff was very quick to welcome and seat us. The whole place was very neat and clean. I ordered the meat lovers omelette and my friend order the club sandwich. Both were over the top and perfect. My friend raved about his club sandwich, and he is a very discerning eater. Our server, Davito, also was over the top with her attention to everything. She was beyond great to us. I could not have been happier that we chose Metro for our meeting. My husband is a creature of habit. Usually I am the one insisting we try different places when we're in a new city-especially unique local businesses. But when he found out there was a Metro Diner near us, he insisted we eat there "to see if it's as good as the ones in Jacksonville." What can I say but yes, it is as good as the Metro Diner in Jax! There's just something about being able to go into a restaurant and order your favorite dish and it'll taste the exact same way wherever you happen to be! They did have a breakfast specialty item that I haven't seen in our local MD-Strawberry Cheesecake Waffles. He and I really enjoyed that dish. I hope our local MD has it if not now, then soon! I would definitely order it again! Metro Diner never lets us down. I love the consistency and the reliability that the food we order will always made the same way, and with quality ingredients. But I also love that on top of the items on the menu, there's always a Specialty dish (sometimes it's DISHES) that's brand new. To begin, I rarely write reviews and especially negative ones but after several really poor experiences at this establishment, I felt compelled to write. The food quality is average at best. I've tried several things over different visits and while it looks good in the menu, it somehow never delivers. Most of the breakfast food is just a notch above Waffle House in terms of flavor or presentation. My kids like pancakes so I have sucked it up so they can enjoy their dinner. The last few times, even the kids complained about the food quality. My biggest complaint is the wait staff. I've been on multiple occasions where it took forever to get someone to take our order, or once the food was delivered we never saw the waiter for an extended period... no coffee or water refills, no check-in or anything. Tonight, I decided to stop for dinner on the way home from work. The diner is close to my office so I thought "sure, it's close so why not?". I went in and was asked to sit at the bar that faces the grill. The girl tried to convince me this was something amazing by saying.. "look, you can see them prepare your food". Ok, whatever. After the hostess seated me I waited patiently for over 10 minutes as waiters walked past, stood at the hostess station with their hands in their pockets, cooks peered at me from across the glass and no one made any effort to take my drink order, inquire if anyone else had helped me, etc. The restaurant was probably only about 25% full and there were plenty of people on hand. I finally just got up and left the restaurant. I've decided to vote with my feet as well and not go back and waste my time or money any further. I know restaurants hire lots of young people and I get that but it's a complete failure of the management to let something like this happen. read more

Food here is AWFUL! first off let me say the service was good but the food was burnt! How do you burn hash browns and toast? We went to metro diner for breakfast in Suffolk and it was amazing so decided to have dinner at metro diner again but we went to the one in Chesapeake instead because we were closer to the Chesapeake one. We were seated fairly quickly so that was great. The problem came when we got our food. We ordered a steak tips meal and a 2 egg breakfast with hash browns, toast and sausage meal. The steak meal was okay the beans were not good (the one in Suffolk had delicious beans). My meal was just burnt and gross! They burnt my hash browns and flipped it over so I couldn't see the burnt side it was so crunchy!!! They also burnt my toast how do you burn toast????? I would steer clear of this metro diner in Chesapeake and just go to the one is Suffolk. I have posted photos of both gross Chesapeake and the very delicious food at Suffolk location. Skip Chesapeake and head to Suffolk unless you want burnt and bland tasting food then go to Chesapeake! read more

I used to come here every Sunday for chicken and waffles. They were always very fresh hot & crispy, not overcooked nor undercooked. Same with the waffles. Everything was very delightful. I stopped coming here maybe 2-4 months ago because of the inconsistency of freshness and flavor of the food. I've come to think maybe they started frying the chicken at a lower temperature than before because the chicken is now very very oily. The chicken I had before had very little oil, which is expected because it's fried. also its not very crispy anymore, Waffles are still alright-ish? Waitstaff are nice and helpful, I hope to comeback sometime soon and test the chicken and waffles out once more. And depending on that I might change my review. read more

Metro Dinner is a nice break from the typical brunch/breakfast chains I've grown tired of in the area. It gives off diner vibes but isn't a true diner. I've had their fruity waffle 3 times in a couple of months....yes I want to try other things on their menu but its just too tasty and fresh I haven't been able to pull myself away just yet. I love that they always have a steady flow of patrons but not too much that there's ridiculous waits or any of that. The staff are all sweet and helpful...very down to earth overall. I placed a pick up order. Followed the directions on the signs outside to call when I arrived. The woman on the phone humiliated me. Said they had only two workers there, why did I call, what did I want. I get being short staffed. An short explanation would have been fine. I nearly didn't go in but I spent $21 on breakfast. Normally my family has not had a bad meal at Metro Diner however this afternoon was an exception. The recommended chicken salad though not bad, was flavorless. It contains sliced grapes and could have used more and yet still avoid it from being too sweet. The fish and chips... fish was good as provided coleslaw not bad but the fries were over cooked and had a chemical taste to it. My daughters kids chicken and waffles was only ok. Her chicken was dry and seasoned with too much pepper. I have had the adult sized chicken and waffles which is great and the metro club too which I also recommend. Just as good as every other location! If you weren't aware this is a chain and I haven't been disappointed at any location I've visited. This time I tackled the eggs Benedict with satisfaction. Egg was perfectly cooked and the sauce is delicious on just about everything. I added some avocado toast to top it off and walked out stuffed. Ok, so I had high expectations from this place, considering the rest of the reviews. I really wanted to like this place, but our first time experience didn't really live up that. First off, our waitress seemed really out of it. She wasn't very friendly and seemed in a rush to get things going with our table. Since it was our first time, we decided to order food items that were a "fan fave". My husband got the holy davoli burger, while I got the fish and chips. The waitress asked how my husband wanted his patty cooked and he asked for medium well, and when he got it, of course it wasn't, it was pretty rare. And it was pretty soggy by the time it got to us. And with my fish, it was completely bland. I couldn't taste anything. My order also came with cole slaw and it was dry. There was barely any dressing on it. For my son, he ordered house potatoes and they were inedible. It was over cooked and too hard to eat. They have decent prices, just wish we had a more decent experience with the food. read more

The service sucks at this location. My fiancée and I sat for a total of 10 minutes before a person came to ask if we wanted something to drink. After we said water and placed our order we waited 20 minutes to receive half the order and another 10 minutes to remaining order. After finishing the meal we waited 10 minutes to receive a check which I had to alert s server passing by we were ready to leave abs wanted our check.
