I have been here 3 times now and while each time the portion size are quite good, the temperature of the food have not been consistent. My daughter ordered the chicken and waffles-quite good as it was freshly made and the strawberry butter to die for-the other 2 dishes were barely warm when they were all served together. The last time there the soup my father ordered was so salty, but the cheddar potato they replaced it with was great. I love the fact they make a lot of everything in house. Do not believe the hype! So the wife and I had breakfast this morning after seeing the reviews. We both went with high expectations only to have them come crashing down. This is another example that I think maybe the people that write the reviews are so overwhelmed by the amount of food served they over rate the quality. Myself I am more of a quality than quantity person. I had the Strawberry Cheesecake stuffed waffle as good as it sounds is just as bad as it tasted. I was expecting a strawberry cheesecake like center no this is just cream cheese with strawberries between 2 waffles. On top is a little powdered sugar and some strawberry syrup. The amount of cream cheese in the center was absolutely ridiculous. Seriously there was enough leftover on my plate that I scrapped off to easily have 2 Bagels toasted and just use the leftovers to top it. My experience today at Metro Diner was okay but nothing impressive which disappointed me because I really wanted to love this place. I've read all the rave reviews and heard great word of mouth from friends but my wife and I agreed our experience this afternoon was just average. We arrived around 2PM, there was plenty of space available in the private parking lot shared with the rest of the businesses in the shopping center. The lot appeared in good repair and was free of debris. We were greeted by the hostess immediately upon entering and asked our preference for a booth or table. We were escorted to a booth right away. I appreciate the booth table not being stationary so we could move it slightly to make ourselves more comfortable. The table was clean and properly stocked with condiments and seasonings. Our server (I think her name was Carrie) arrived immediately after the hostess departed. She took our drink orders and asked if we'd been there before. We hadn't so she explained that anything on the menu could be ordered at any time of the day. I appreciated that she also offered some suggestions and pointed out some of the most popular items when I asked for suggestions. My wife ordered the ever-popular Fried Chicken & Waffle while I went for an item on the specials board, the Texan Burger with french fries. The food arrived quickly, everything appeared fresh and hot. My Texan Burger featured a humongous eight ounce hamburger patty with cheddar, bacon, grilled onions, lettuce and tomato on a brioche bun. It was advertised with BBQ sauce which I asked to be omitted and replaced with mayonnaise and ketchup, they were happy to comply. It was cooked a perfect medium as I specified. The burger was pretty good, not the best I've had as it was a little bland but adding a bit of salt and pepper really perked it up and made it quite enjoyable. The french fries were hot and crispy with a soft interior, delicious in an ordinary way. I really enjoyed the dill pickle spear garnish. It was cool and crisp and delicious, a nice touch. On to the much-anticipated Fried Chicken & Waffle I've read so many rave reviews on. Carrie had previously brung maple syrup and hot sauce to the table which she mixed in a small bowl for dipping the chicken and waffle. The waffle was a big hit with that amazing strawberry butter and maple syrup. The large waffle was quartered and stacked on the plate, it was hot and crispy yet still soft and moist on the inside with a wonderful flavor. It was truly delicious, a real delight. The chicken, not so much. It was a real let down, not delicious at all. It was hot but seemed to be fried way too long, to the point where it had a dark appearance and some of the breading had burned off. It was dry and when you bit into it a lot of the breading was beyond crispy and just kind of crumbled into dust. For $15.49 I expected much better. We thought about sending it back but that's not really in our nature. I'm pretty sure this was an anomaly because there's no way people could be raving about this chicken if it's like this every time. I may give it another try another time just to satisfy my curiosity. Service was excellent throughout our meal, Carrie was professional and friendly and always there when we needed her. She was energetic and delightful. My only quibble (I'm guessing this is just the way Metro Diner does this) is that when the bill was presented it wasn't on a tray but rather just placed on the table. It's not a big deal but when there are wet spots on the table it can make a bit of a mess of the paper. The men's restroom was clean and properly stocked though it only accommodates one person at a time. Everything functioned as intended however I would have liked there to have been disposable toilet seat covers available. Another sore spot for me is the toilet paper dispenser which is mounted in such a fashion that one needs to be somewhat of a contortionist to unroll the paper while seated on the commode, at least for a big guy like me. Overall, I find Metro Diner to be okay. It's certainly good enough and has enough potential to entice me back at some point to try other items and perhaps revisit the fried chicken. 3.5 stars rounding down to 3 with room for improvement. I will return at some point and will adjust my rating if merited. read more

Quick pick for my family and I...came in to grab brunch on a whim and boy were we surprised. This place has great service and delicious food. The prices are very reasonable and affordable. Definitely our new place for brunch. My kids had the cinnamon roll pancakes and kids platter. They loved it! My husband and I had the chicken with waffles which is amazing. The first time we went we had breakfast which was okay, but the coffee was bad and the service was horrible. I wanted to try the chicken but I wasn't going to sit in the restaurant. I ordered a WHOLE chicken as the menu offer a "half chicken with each meal." It's a lie, you only get two pieces so when I got my "WHOLE CHICKEN" it was only 4 pieces for $12. That's a $24 dollar chicken if we're to actually get a "WHOLE CHICKEN." So I talked with the manager who was rude and said "their whole chicken" is only 4 pieces. The chicken was horrible, it had enough salt for a bucket of chicken. They have a lot of waiters whom I'm sure post great things, but I will NEVER go to this place again and it's within walking distance. read more

First time dining in the restaurant & it was surprisingly busy on A Wednesday. Soon as I walked in I was greeted & was seated immediately. Our waitress seemed really busy but she was still able to make sure we were good & if we needed anything. I started off with a mimosa & they were only $2.99?! Cant beat price & they were delicious. Then I ordered the Shrimp & Grits & OMGGG I've never had Shrimp & grits like this before. They somehow made the grits into a pattie and I'm assuming fried it . It comes with 2 large square patties & plenty of shrimp ! Probably one of the best ones I've had, full of flavor , Not spicy at all so I added some hot sauce bc I like my shrimp & grits spicy. My friend ordered the steak bowl, I took one bite of the steak & it was so juicy & cooked perfectly, not dry at all. We have been to Metro twice. Both times we had good tasting ordinary food served by a friendly staff. The menu is rather uninspired but cooked well. Metro has very positive vibes overall. Not very comfortable seating. Food tastes like you want it to. I wish it were more "dinery". Nothing wrong with the place but somehow it leaves you not disappointed but not quite satisfied either. The wait staff are particularly nice and readily offer substitutes on the menu. We would definitely return. Wish they would "diner" up the menu or just be the Metro Eatery. read more

Hubby and I came here on a Tuesday morning. They were pretty busy but we found a table and sat down. We were greeted immediately and asked for our drink orders. Our server was very kind and helpful. I chose their Crabcake Benedict with eggs scrambled instead of poached. Hubby ordered the San Francisco Benedict which had Canadian ham, tomato, & avocado on the English muffin. Metro Diner offered Christmas dinner through a caterer. The process was simple and efficient. The food was excellent. The portion size was generous. The turkey was moist with plenty of gravy. I had the corn and mashed potatoes while my husband ordered the corn and macaroni and cheese with the ham. Everyone was polite and engaging, i.e. I was asked if I had been helped several times after I checked in and was standing waiting for a table--everyone seemed to work as a supportive team. I was so excited to see Shrimp & Grits on the menu and on a previous Yelp review; every place you have them they are prepared differently and it's fun to do comparisons. By far, this was the second worst one I've had though, I was very disappointed. The picture someone else posted is accurate, the grits were tender and moist, but I believe had been breaded in some fashion and maybe lightly fried (which was okay, I suppose) and then sitting in a moat of Béchamel sauce. The shrimp was cooked perfectly, but the sauce ws just overwhelming and distracting. Not like a Diner in Philly or Jersey but the food is great. I'm partial to the sausage, biscuits & gravy. Find it great earlier in the day vs later afternoon. To be honest this is the only item I've had oh and a what I'll call an egg platter that comes with plenty of food. In fact every dish coming out of the kitchen has large portions. Fairly quick service from order to table. Have only had one server that seemed out of touch with wanting to be serving us. We didn't say anything, we brushed it off as maybe she was having a bad day or patron. They do get bullied a lot. So I believe this is the only Metro in this area. Would've given 5 stars but our 1st Benedict's came out with over cooked eggs and broken hollandaise sauce. Jenn was a fantastic server and got it corrected fast. My husband got the crab bene and he said it was chocked full of crab and was seasoned perfectly. Hashbrowns were crispy and delicious. I had the San Francisco bene, the avocado and tomatoes were perfect and thick slices of Canadian bacon . I would only eat half it was so filling. Looking for a new place for lunch/brunch after church today for me and my girls. Heard about this place from someone at work and thought I'd give it a try. It was busy from the minute we entered with several parties waiting. The hostess assured us the wait wouldn't be that long though. And it wasn't that bad, maybe 15 minutes. I had the avocado wrap with onion rings and my older daughter had the mikes club sandwich with fries. The little girls wanted breakfast so they each opted for a waffle. My wrap was tasty and filling with plenty of avo, black beans, and vegetables. The onion rings were ok. Clearly the frozen kind you re-heat in the fryer versus the house made ones that I really like. Daughter said her sandwich was good and it looked filling. The little girls waffles were a little naked looking. Just a waffle on a plate. They both got fresh fruit as a side and the fruit came in a separate bowl so maybe that's why the little waffle on a plate looked kind of bare and minimal. Service was good. Except the server brought out check within minutes of our first bites. I looked at my daughter and said sadly "she didn't even ask if we wanted dessert?" And I love me some good diner desserts. The key lime pie on the chalkboard was already calling softly to me. I guess I could have asked for the dessert to be added on but then the server made me feel a little rushed so I just didn't worry about it. I realize they are busy and want to turn the tables but I also like to enjoy my food and my family's company and be asked "would you like anything else?" Before I'm brought my check. Went this morning and the wait was pretty long. Staff was friendly and inviting! Ordered the chicken and waffles... I shocked by the size of the order... pretty large!! Chicken breast, chicken wing, thigh, and drumstick plus the waffle!!! The chicken was greasy and not as crisp as I like and kinda salty. I'm am not on here to bash the food... the waffle was great!!! My first time here. Mama Gwen and I got the special (Salisbury Steak, Mashed Potatoes, Grilled Veggies) and the Queen got the Fish & Chips. The service was fast although our server seemed a little inexperienced. The Salisbury steak was FANTASTIC! The mashed potatoes were creamy and the grilled veggies were done... not half-raw. After a not so pleasant encounter prior, I called in days later and order a garden salad with chicken salad. To my surprise the bowl was overflowing. I never got a chance to talk to the manager and he was not present the day place order. This made me extremely happy to know that the manager listen to my review and made his staff aware as well. I will start by saying I love metro diner BUT this visit was disappointing! I ordered the chicken parmigiana sandwich was expecting a saucy sandwich and Lean meant. DID NOT HAPPEN. The bread was Texas toast a bit much for me but I just moved the first layer and figured it would be fine. It started good but as I kept eating found the chicken was not as lean and the sandwich was actual dry. They did come around to ask me if my meal was good but it was during my first bite. Very good diner. There was a wait but not long at all. Service was excellent and so was the food. This is not a large place however it works very well. The waiter was very informative when we had questions. I am very picky about the way I like my grits so I never order them when I am out. My husband ordered them and said babe you gotta try these grits. All I have to say is "LOVED IT!!" It can be a little bit noisy but every plate that came past our table looked and smelled wonderful!
