I cannot believe their fried chicken! I don't know what kind of bird they fry and nestle it with a crispy fluffy waffle but it can't be chicken because I have never had chicken so good. I challenge anyone to beat what they put on a plate and call fried chicken. The bird was flavorful, tender, with just the right amount of crunch. We also had the shrimp and grits that was just ok. We came in on a cold night and a bowl of grits with just slight kick (spice) would have been amazing. Instead, we got 2 giant polenta cakes with some kind of creamy sauce. It was ok. I think anything on their menu will not be GREAT/AMAZING/ when compared to their fried chicken. Also please try the whipped strawberry butter that tops the waffle with chicken and waffle combo. I ordered my food and had it delivered by Uber eats. The Uber eats driver delivered the wrong order. I think it is a 50/50 responsibility for the restaurant to give the correct order and the Uber driver to check it, however when I called metro diner they said they knew they gave the wrong order but my uber driver couldn't come get the correct order so I asked for them to remake the food($80 worth) so that it wasn't cold. They said they would and it will be ready in 10 minutes . We had to go pick it up ourselves. The food was cold, hard and missing items(no ranch with the salad or cheese fries). I called back and the manager was rude, telling me they could remake it(that's what they said they would do the first time) and we would have to go there AGAIN to get it. No refund would be issued. I would never recommend this place to anyone. Poor food, management and customer service read more

I was on a mission to have rotisserie chicken and mashed potatoes for lunch. I had a limited lunch break so I did not want to venture off too far. I looked up diners and found this spot and decided to give it a try. I got the turkey meal which came with mashed potatoes gravy, sauteed vegetables, cranberries, and a French baguette. The vegetables were outstanding! I could've just ate a plate of those as my meal.The mashed potatoes were fine. The turkey and gravy were very salty, and the turkey was TV dinner grade. The baguette and accompanying butter had a stale taste to them. Over all it was so-so. The veggies were the saving grace for the meal, but not sure if it was good enough for me to give this place another try. read more

While I appreciate how good the food is, my only drawback is for delivery, they do not include tamper evident seals. People should feel comfortable that their food will be delivered and not messed with by delivery drivers. It's a small gesture to ensure the food is safe. Every business should take this precaution. Came here with high hopes based on the reviews. Everything seemed alright until we watched our food sit in the window while person after person walked by. When our food finally came to the table it was cold. When we asked the waitress if the food was going to be hot she rudely replied "do you want to check." If you enjoy cold food then feel free to stop by here to eat. Edit 1: The food was remade and everything came out hot. The manager was eager to fix the problem. After the meal, the manager took care of the food. My family and I weren't looking for a free meal and I insisted on paying for the food that we ate. However, the manager took care of it all. She was very nice and handled the situation well. I just wish I could've paid for our food. read more

Our first visit to Metro Diner. We arrived shortly after 12:00 pm on Saturday. We were told that there would be 15 minutes wait. We studied the menu while we waited. 2 couples were ahead of us and we were seated before 15 minutes. I was surprised that I could only find three items on the menu sparked my interests. We placed our order right away, chicken and waffle & bacon Swiss cheese and mushroom burger. The server was friendly and gave us an average service. Our hands were dirty so wanted to wash our hands. I had to wait since there was only one bathroom for ladies and one for gents and each could accommodate one patron at a time. I think there should be a couple more stalls for the size of the restaurant. We were seated by the kitchen and not far from the expedited window. One thing really bothered me was that the lady in the pink shirt with "trainer?" written on the back. She was yelling over the food to the kitchen staff standing right in front of all the dishes came out of the kitchen. Her face was inches from the food! Don't know how much of her spits sprayed on the foods waiting to be picked up by the servers! My waffle was crispy outside and soft and creamy inside. Chicken was also crispy outside and juicy inside, but it way too salty for my taste. I guess it was from the brines not from the seasonings on the coating. I only ate a thigh and a part of a wing but I was so thirsty all afternoon! I brought the leftovers home but I don't think I'll eat the chicken. My husband said his burger was good and enjoyed very much but the fries were bit dry. read more

We ate lunch here yesterday and were completely underwhelmed. The menu offered nothing different, nothing tantalizing and was basically the same as you find at Applebee's or the like. I ordered the burger and it wasn't hand shaped but clearly molded by a device, thawed out and put on a grill. It wasn't tasty though it was Angus beef, the lettuce nonexistent and the pittance of mayonnaise barely plopped on one side, but contained finely diced pickles that were like tiny specks of green in the mayo. The French fries lacked flavor as well and were clearly thawed from a bag of pre-cut potatoes. I expected way more than this from a new restaurant making its mark in Chesapeake. I'd rather have eaten at McDonalds and had the assurance of crispy French fries and a burger with a little flavor. I'll not return to eat here again. read more

I've been to the Metro Diner several times while visiting family in Chesapeake. It's one of the best spots in town so far as my limited gastronomic experience can tell me here in the Tidewater area. The Spinach Salad with grilled chicken is great! Cheeseburgers? Also awesome. The portions are good, not too much, just enough. The staff is normally very friendly and efficient- the only thing I would change is the ridiculous box of tea bags they haul out when a "cup of hot tea" is ordered. This might be a regional issue. Ordering hot tea usually means black tea. I'm from the north and maybe it's just a cultural thing, but what's with all of the crazy herbal teas in an awkward box? AND not a black tea in the selection of at least 30 tea bags? It's a diner! Bring on the Lipton- otherwise, the Metro Diner is a solid choice. read more

Just finished breakfast. Well didn't finish it all there is enough for 2nd breakfast! I sat at the hi-top. It is an open kitchen so you are able to see the cooks and the food line. You can not only see everything being made and plates prepared, but the cooks will interact with you. Everyone i spoke to was nice. I was here for about 30 to 45 minutes and was asked if anything was needed by many of the servers, cooks, and the manager. Very nice job to you all! The food was plenty, cooked to temp, and tasted good. Not bad for a solo morning! I will be back. Good to know this place is here. I dont have to hit it up when i Richmond anymore. read more

What a fantastic place to eat in Hampton Roads. Whether you go in the morning, midday or evening you are sure to be pleased with the experience. I've personally been several times. I've taken family, friends and coworkers. I highly recommend the meatloaf, chicken and waffles, soups, and anything breakfast related...well maybe the biscuits and gravy could have been better, but that's ok. Horrible experience last night...waited forever to be seated (no one at the reception desk), then another ten minutes for a waiter. Then after ordering, another 35 minutes and no food. The waiter said that the kitchen was just beginning to prep our food...WTF!? Needless to say, my wife and I left immediately. Note: two other couples who arrived after us and seated nearby, received their meals before us and in about 15 minutes. I told the manager (or at least he said he was) how disappointed we were. We will not be coming back. This Metro Diner is poorly managed and the waiters/waitresses seem to have a very care less attitude...I guess this is the kind of help you get during a pandemic...scraping the bottom of the barrel. Last weekend we were looking for a good late afternoon brunch spot. It was after 3pm, so our usual places had stopped serving. I found the Metro diner, not far from us in Chesapeake. We decided to give it a try. Right away we were greeted by friendly staff and seated in a nice long booth, which gave us plenty of room! The atmosphere was fun and the music brought back memories, without being too loud. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their brunch, ranging from Eggs Benedict, to a lovely, crisp Belgian waffle covered with plenty of fruit, and tasty chicken and waffles. I think they put an entire chicken on there! We left overjoyed that we have found a gem that serves brunch all day! read more
