The high quantity of positive reviews made me want to try this place. I wasn't impressed. I should have guessed from the fact that the first thing the girl recommended was the chicken and waffles that this is the kinda place that covers their food with sugar and/or deep fries it to make it palatable. Enough oil or sugar and most people will eat almost anything. That said my wife is normally fairly easy to please and she was unhappy with her food as. All of the food was served cold. My omelette was small and has ver little filling. The cheese didn't even looked melted. The wife's French dip had the most dry roast beef I've ever tasted. Me and my Wife and her parents met here for a late brunch the other day. The wait staff was excellent and super friendly. The food was great, as always with metro. I love their breakfast and my wife does too. It was her parents first time and they were eager enough after the first visit to come back. The only down side was the power went out for a bit due to weather but it wasn't an issue and didn't detract from service or quality. Metro will always be one of my favorite places to grab breakfast at any time of day and I was so happy they had locations up here. 5/5. read more

The staff is always so welcoming here. Have been a few times and the food is always good! My daughter ordered the monte Cristo after I raved about the Bennigans version. It was actually tastier. I'm not big on diner food, but we've gone a few times with family who like to eat here and it's always been good. Not any real vegan options but you can get some decent vegetarian stuff. I dined here for breakfast today with my mom and sister. Customer service was excellent and food was really good for the most part. My sisters pancakes were very heavy and dense. I'm not sure if that is how they are supposed to be since this was our first time. She only ate a couple of bites and took the rest home. This is my second time at this location in Chesapeake. The first time I had the Shrimp & grits. It was different from any other Shrimp & grits I had st other restaurants but it was good. Today we went in for dinner. I ordered the fish & chips that was supposedly made with Cod. It was about 5 strips of heavily breaded fish that was very thin with thick and crunchy breading. More breading than fish. The fries were hot & fresh. When my dinner arrived that was supposed to have tarter sauce the waiter stated he would be back with the sauce. Needless to say I don't like my fish without the tarter sauce. So as my fish sat in the table geting cold the waiter stops by again to say that the kitchen had to make tarter sauce & it would be out shortly. Sometime later it arrived & I was not happy. This was after we waited longer than usual for our food. I did notice the table behind me did not get what they had ordered either & their waitress was apologizing for something that was missing from their order also. The table directly across from us had complained that their waitress had not been back to check on their drinks as their order was taking longer than usual. read more

Since it's opening this diner has become one of our favorites. Although when they were new obviously they were training staff and there were a few inconsistencies put my last few visits for both dinner and Sunday brunch have been absolutely delicious and everyone at the table has thoroughly enjoyed their food. Also every times our service Has been very good and the manager has even stopped by to check on us on the busiest days. I would highly recommend Metro diner to anyone you may have to wait on a Sunday after church but it is worth it. read more

Have been here 3 times now and all 3 of them were just as good as the last. Their menu is so diverse. The cornbread waffles with Mac n cheese and pork BBQ is out of this world good and is so much food. The classic eggs Benedict is soooo good. Have to try the cinnamon roll pancakes...you can upgrade the pancakes in a regular combo to cinnamon!!! Even down to the kids chicken fingers - they are to die for. The only downside is the size of the restaurant :-(. There is usually a wait so that deters is from going because we have a 5 year old who doesn't like to sit and wait. But, if you have time to wait make sure you do and try it all...it's so good! read more

Was hungry and really wanted to try someplace new. I had seen this place before and what the heck. It was pretty busy for 8pm at night. I was seated right away. I went with the meat loaf dinner. Good meatloaf, really good mashed potatoes and gravy that would make your grandmother proud. I loved the fried squash mix. If I had to say, the only "not great" part of the meal.... the baguette. Stopped in because we were in the area and wanted to try somewhere new for dinner. The decor and the vibe inside of the restaurant were great. Our server was super friendly and very attentive. My husband ordered the meatloaf and it was awful. It came out burnt and dry. They brought out extra veggies because there wasn't much on his plate and I thought it was nice that they didn't try to just get away with skimping on his portions. Halfway through our meal they burnt something sugary and the smell lingered. My meal wasn't anything spectacular and neither were my sons. I finally had to try this place. It's decent, but not worth a 20+ minute wait. I ordered biscuits and gravy with hashbrowns. One of the better biscuits and gravy for this area. Definitely a large enough portion to have leftovers. The downside, everything needed more seasoning. My hashbrowns didnt taste like they had any salt or pepper. Our table also ordered some kind of eggs Benedict with crabcakes. It was pretty good! The home fries though.... no salt and no pepper. This place was very good. The food was pretty good, the Monte Christo was a bit soggy but otherwise fine. The customer service was excellent, everyone we dealt with was very friendly. The only complaint I have is with the atmosphere. This place is VERY loud, the music is way louder than it should be. We had to speak very loudly just to hear each other, and I had to read our servers lips every time we interacted. I assume that's something that will be fixed with some time, having to adjust to the space they have. Having said that, I will be back here. We live in North Carolina on the boarder of Virginia. I will not be returning. I had previously given a 4 star review but after getting breakfast to go several times I had to update the review. The most recent trip was on 7/28 where my wait was told to be 15-20 mins for a to go order. It was well over 25 mins and when I arrived home(a 2 min drive), half of my order was cold and the Metro Pancake(the item that made the wait so long) had uncooked batter in the middle and instead of being fluffy it was more the consistency of a sponge. -First time visiting- total of 3 guests in my party on a busy New Years day -Put on the wait list & recieved a welcome text at 11:25 -Table ready text received at 11:44 am & escorted to the outer closed in/canopy-like area -waited a few minutes & waitress arrived, gave waitress our drink and food order all at the same time -waitress arrived with drinks- had to ask for straws, seating area was chilly -WAITED: waitress brought out a water and some butter -WAITED: waitress notified us that she was trying to get our food -WAITED: waitress notified us she was still trying to get our food, I asked if she had an estimated time for our order & she was not able to give one- waitress informed us that she would bring out whatever was ready as it came up which was fine -Approx 12:45-my fried chicken plate arrived, waitress quickly turned to leave and I had to ask for utensils towards her back -she had to turn back around to face me so I could repeat my request - After that I knew that it was best for me to leave. While walking to the hostess stand to ask for a box and the check, I observed our waitress serving other tables-I never received utensils - 12:49 check was paid, I boxed my food & told my family members- who still had not received their food- to call me when they were done and I left -Food: my food was hot, the chicken was too salty- ended up throwing it way, biscuit was good read more

My family went there last week, then my wife and I went yesterday and both times it was really, really good. I wish there was an option for 4.5 stars, but due to a couple mishaps I had to go with four stars. My daughter's omelette was a little overcooked and needed more innards and my wife asked that her eggs be done over easy and placed on top of her biscuits and gravy, but they were over medium and she received them on a plate.
