Breakfast Review: We arrived at Metro Diner around 10:45 am and waited about 10 minutes to be seated. It was surprisingly crowded for a Friday morning, but the wait was reasonable. Once seated, Kavon was our server and he was great. He took our order and the food came out incredibly fast. This place really keeps things moving. I had the Bissell Breakfast and my husband ordered the chicken and waffles. Both were absolutely delicious. Highly recommend this spot for a great breakfast with quick service

Whatttt, died and went to waffle and chicken heaven. Wonder café found in tbe midst of glove trotting we found this small intimate breakfast spot. The food the service was exceptional. Do not tell mama or grandmother about the chicken...Definitely will create a problem.

Very fast service. Our food came out in around 5 minutes. They are known for their fried chicken it seems and we weren't disappointed. We had the chicken & waffles, the fried chicken benedict, teriyaki wings, rib plate, and croissant french toast. The chicken and waffles were obviously good. Probably the best that I have tried in the area so far. The chicken is very well seasoned and juicy except for the breast, which was a bit dry but is common for that part of chicken. The crust was very crunchy and tasted delicious with the syrup. The strawberry butter was fragrant and light. The waffles were crispy and toasted nicely with standard waffle flavors. I really liked the dish overall. The rib plate was alright. I'm not sure if they bread or do something with the ribs but it wasn't like a baby back rib dish. It was okay and the sauce was pretty average for that type of dish. The croissant french toast was great too. Very very buttery and delicious. The egginess of both the french toast and croissant made the dish taste so good to me. This was definitely my second favorite dish. Our waiter was fast and very helpful. Pretty standard dining atmosphere, typical for a diner but a little more updated than others. If you dont want to wait on weekends, book a reservation because it can get busy. We waited about 20 minutes for a table.

Love Metro! We've gone to other locations but this is the best one thus far. It was spacious and not super crowded, the food came out quickly, and our server was amazing! She even put us on game to secret menu option ;) Will definitely be back to MD HV.

Soooo....you ALL know that I am a fan of Metro Diner (MD), Suffolk, VA! This review will NOT stop me from going. But I'm a little disappointed. Typically, MD is consistent and I have no issues. Today was my first day ordering takeout and I'm so disappointed. I ordered online at about 2:40p and called at 2:51pm with a request to hold the powdered sugar for the waffles & place it on the side (with carry out orders it will melt). But no one answered until the third call and it was too late. I was told that it had already been added. Also, one of my sides was missing. Since we are not dining in, it's important to get orders correct. No I didn't call about my missing item because I was just done and disappointed. But like I said, this is my fourth or fifth time here so I will give them a pass. I'm writing this to show them that we still care and I want them to rise above the rest and be the best. It's hard work but it pays off. A few tips: 1. Put powdered sugar in a side container and place in the condiment bag. NOT with the waffle as it will melt. 2. Treat external guests the same as dining in guests. That's all I'm going to say. If I say more everyone will know who the person is and I really like the person. I'm presuming that they had a bad day (which we all have). But it's ok to take a break and start over. 3. Please change the chicken oil. I LOVE MD's chicken but the take out was horrible! I was so disappointed. You can immediately smell that the oil was old and my checking was fried terribly hard. I hope our upcoming visit will be better.

I love their chicken and waffles. I haven't had it in a while and craved it. I ordered via Door Dash and the chicken was cooked in old oil. You can see by the pictures and the smell confirmed it. Do better! Change the oil! I called and I will get a free entree the next time I come. But I am not confident it will be good compared to when they first opened. Very disappointing.

This was our time at this location, however, we have been to Metro Diner in Florida and we have always had a fantastic experience. We visited this location on a Monday morning. There was no wait to be seated. The restaurant appeared clean and was very inviting. Our waitress, Taylor, came to our table promptly to take her drink orders. She was pleasant and personable and very friendly. My husband loves chicken and waffles and that is what he ordered. The chicken was so crispy I could hear it. I ordered the croissant French toast. It was very good. If you are going through this part of town and are looking for a very good breakfast, you definitely need to check them out!

    Love they support our troops!

So glad we chose to go here! Everything was great! We sat on the patio and it was really nice. There were ducks that came right near our table which was neat. Our waitress was great. She took good care of us and gave great recommendations. My hamburger was one of the best I've had. Super juicy and lots of flavor. The fries were ok-could've been better. My friend had the eggs Benedict and loved it. Great presentation and a lot of food! It's about 35-40 minutes away, but if I'm ever in the area again, I will definitely go back!

We were warned from the start - they are dark and REAL sweet. Which for me was perfect. As for the service: there was one lady (dam forgot her name) taking care of all the guest and she did great. When I say taking care of - I mean everything. Bussing tables, sitting folks, taking orders, and cashing out. Again she was wonderful! The place is neat just like many have said before me. Old 80's type stuff on the walls and tables. Now let me address something that some past Yelpers clearly have an issue with. There are small indications of the owners political views within the location. Nothing crazy at all and unless you really look for it you won't notice. Some past yelpers I who clearly don't agree used this to bust down their Yelp review. That's ridiculous. If the owner wants to voice their opinion- they have every right. It's their place - with their money on the line and their time vested. They clearly treated every guest wonderfully and that's all you should really focused on. So looking for a very good meal (breakfast) at a nice little joint - go on in and enjoy. I'm sure we will be back and might even shoot for the lunch menu next time.

Just something to keep in mind if you're visiting in the summer. The back patio does not have air conditioning. If you sit by the large front windows, be prepared for the sun. The building faces east, so by late morning the sun is shining directly through those windows. I was sitting with my back to it and was so hot. I probably could have asked them to lower the shade, but it's something to consider when choosing your table. Shana was our server, and she was great. Friendly, attentive, and checked on us regularly. Now for the best part. The sorbet mimosas. We ordered two, one with mango sorbet and one with lemon and raspberry sorbet, and they were incredible. If you come here, these are an absolute must order. We started with the fried green tomatoes. They were good, but they were clearly made from frozen slices rather than fresh-cut tomatoes. I ordered the salmon cakes with eggs and a pancake. Everything was delicious. No complaints at all. The food easily earns 5 stars. The decor has a classic old-school diner vibe with black and white checkered floors and chrome accents, which I really liked. My only real complaint was the bar seating. If you're on the shorter side, the stools are not very comfortable. The seats are not very deep, there is no foot rail to rest your feet on, and since the stools are bolted to the floor, you cannot scoot in to get comfortable. The backs of my legs started going numb, so we moved to a table as soon as one opened up. Ironically, it was the table directly in front of that hot window. Overall, I'd definitely come back. Great food, excellent service, and those sorbet mimosas alone are worth the visit. Just be strategic about where you sit if you're visiting on a warm, sunny day.

And downtown Suffolk is just beautiful and quaint, it feels friendly and idyllic. *Ambience: Extremely comfortable, super approachable, but also refined with lots of wood and brick, but open and airy, and lots of light. You walk in to a cocktail and bar area, with an incredible painted sign on the brick wall behind the bar, that is a total throwback. The bar is incredibly comfortable and open and warm feeling. There are hardwood tables and beautiful booths along with a private dining area in the back. Really couldn't ask for or want for a more comfortable environment. *Service: absolutely stellar, super friendly staff, our server could not have been nicer or more genuine, or had more of an "ownership attitude" as if the restaurant meant everything to her, and so did us being there. She knew everything on the menu, had great recommendations, and insured we were consistently taken care of. She truly missed nothing. Harper, the owner, came over to check on us and ensure we were enjoying ourselves. He couldn't have been nicer or kinder or more humble. Service was outstanding. *Food & Drinks: The food! The drinks! Oh man! I've been a "Yelp Elite Member" for almost 10 years and the food here at hT is near the top of all my reviews, hundreds of them. The highest quality ingredients, impeccably curated, ingeniously but simply paired, created with a true love for the art of cooking and the true joy of the consumer. This was obvious. We started with a Mainstream Manhattan and Old Fashioned from the bar. No ordinary bartender, she's a true mixologist/professional. Both drinks were excellent, no "simple syrup" used here, raw sugar cubes melted into the finest spirits, yummm! We order brussels sprouts from the appetizer menu everywhere we go and compare them. None have ever come close to our favorite, for a dozen years, until now. These were crispy on the outside, but juicy inside, flash fried to an al dente bite and finished (almost injected) with a cherry vinegar glaze that permeated every bite with sweet, tart perfection. We also started with the vibrant Camden County May Pea & Truffle Toast which was like a celebration of spring with a fresh, grilled baguette topped with fancy Italian truffle cheese (insane!), sweet tender may peas, and fresh pea shoots, all drizzled with olive oil for a fresh, earthy, and simple bite that captured the essence of this farm-to-table cuisine. For entrees we ordered the Ben Johnson's Soft Shell Crabs with remoulade and the Brown Sugar Brined Porkchop with pimp cheese, grits, and chard tomatoes with a side of hand cut fries with roast shallot mayo. Everything was stellar, no exceptions. I can honestly say this was **the best pork chop I've ever eaten, ever.** Tender, sweet, meaty and paired perfectly with the creamy cheese grits and the tang and smoke of the charred tomatoes. Ridiculously good! See my photos, too bad they don't come with "taste-o-vision", because, wow! The hand cut, skin on, double fried potatoes and roast shallot mayo were fantastic. As if that wasn't enough food, they also brought us stone ground cornbread, with a massive slab of rough salted butter, steamy, warm, soft, buttery perfection. I'm ready to go back now! *Value & Overall: I posted pictures of all menus and all prices. Their spirits and mixed drink selections from the bar are incredible. The food, service and ambience simply couldn't have been better. Prices, as you'll see, are exactly in line for what you get and an excellent value. Portions on everything were excellent and we ended up taking home quite a bit of food, which was also stellar the next day. I absolutely cannot recommend Harper's Table highly enough. This establishment, all parts of it, truly earn a five star review across the board with no exceptions. Have no hesitation, make a reservation, go, it will become an instant favorite.

Service was on point, quickly answering questions and providing great recommendations to the menu the varies slightly throughout the seasons. Couldn't pass up the flights today, between mimosas and ice cream had to sample a little of everything! The picnic plate was perfect for a small group to enjoy and the flounder fish and chips was great! The shrimp and grits were perfectly cooked and very flavorful as well! Bit of crispy brussels were a great table share for our party of three. This is a casual and comfortable location with plenty of seating. Didn't need a reservation for an early Saturday lunch, but available via Resy to secure your spot if desired. If you are looking for a cozy space to enjoy a small or large party (back large family table style available) highly recommend Harper's Table for some fresh farm to table comfort foods!

I brought my mom here for Mother's Day and we got the Down South Omelette and the Breakfast Tot-choes. The restaurant has a cool retro 1970s vibe with vintage colors, an old cigarette machine, and Bewitched playing on the TV, which made for a unique atmosphere. Unfortunately, the experience was a little inconsistent. We arrived with a party of four but were seated at a table with only three chairs. When we pointed it out, the host didn't seem to realize the problem at first, which was an odd start to the meal. Our server was friendly and attentive throughout our visit. She let us know they were out of the home fries and another menu item before we ordered, which wasn't a big issue. However, it took close to 40 minutes for our food to arrive. My son ordered a burger that was advertised with fried mac and cheese on top, but when it came out, the mac and cheese was missing. Only after we asked were we told they had run out. It would have been helpful to know that before we ordered. The server apologized and offered to make something else, but it would have taken another 30 minutes, so we decided to keep the burger as it was. She ended up removing it from the bill entirely, which we appreciated. We also tipped her based on the original total because she handled the situation well. The food was good. I enjoyed my grilled chicken sandwich with pear, Brie, and honey, and my husband liked his French dip. That said, we felt the prices were on the high side for the overall experience, especially considering the long wait, unavailable menu items, and other service issues. Overall, MOD Olive has a fun concept and an interesting menu, but the restaurant could have been cleaner, communication could have been better, and the value didn't quite match the price. We'd be willing to give it another try in the future, but we're hoping for a more polished experience next time.

On that note she was very attentive and kept checking on us and kept our sweet teas full. Sorry no pictures today. But my Ham Steak (Farmers Breakfast) with eggs, potatoes and English muffins was very good and a decent size for the price. Wifey had the Windsor. She tells me she liked it. The place was fairly full at about 11:00 AM, but we still received our hot meals in maybe 10 minutes. I highly recommend this Smithfield location. I understand they have a new location currently under construction in Newport News. Really hope they maintain that one as well as this one. So go enjoy yourself a nice breakfast.
