For Mom's Kitchen: This is the epitome of mom/pop places. If you want casual dining for fast homemade food, this is the place. The wait staff is very efficient. They've been around for 40 years so they must be doing something right. I got the meatloaf with fried okra and mac/cheese. The meatloaf was the best I've ever had. The okra was just like anywhere else and Mac and cheese was pretty basic. Order a slice of pie! They have an extensive pie menu! The staff and owners are super friendly and make you feel right at home. I've also been there for breakfast/brunch. Amazing omelettes with great portions!

Awesome biker bar/nightclub with rock bands/family restaurant. My favorite dish there is liver and onions and they make amazing homemade pies. They have all you can drink soda/tea for a lost cost for all designated drivers

Mom's Kitchen and Scandals is located in a small shopping center along Holland Rd. Based on the reviews of others and having a coupon, I decided to give this place a try (first visit). This visit was on May 6, 2018 for dinner. When you come in, you can tell that the place has been around a while. Some of the stuff in there was dated. The first thing I noticed when I came in was the smell of cigarette smoke. We made sure to get a table as far away as possible from the bar. We were the only ones in there that evening from the time we came in to the time we left. Most of the activity while here were takeout orders through Uber Eats. Once we were seated, the server came over to the table to give us the menus and asked us about what we wanted to drink. I just ended up with water, which is what I normally do at most places. After a while and we were finally ready, she was there to take our order. The one thing that turned me off at that point was while she was talking to us, food particles or something were coming out as she was talking and landed on the table (this is why I put the review at 2 stars instead of 3). They do have a set of specials that changes each day, but I ended up going with the coconut shrimp and fries. The entree was good and came out hot. I don't know if it was or not, but it seemed that the coconut shrimp was from the frozen kind you could find in a supermarket. My mom had the roast beef special, but even she said that it was way over-seasoned. Overall, this place was okay. Also, do not use the bathrooms. My mom went to it and it was utterly disgusting and turned back out from it. If I come back, it would strictly be to go primarily because of the strong smoke smell in there from their bar (Scandals) that's attached to the place. I have a problem when I am around cigarette smoke for any length of time. If you plan to come here and have that sensitivity as well, go with take out instead. It would likely be quite a while before I come back.

Wow! We have been trying new locally owned places to support during this time. Since we typically travel for Easter, we decide to try this place as they had a really nice special. It was super easy. We texted them to order their Easter Dinner to go. It was ready when we pulled up. Great service, friendly people, taking all safety precautions...the food was AMAZING! I can't imagine how good it will be when we get to eat inside! We picked this up at 1pm and reheated it at 5pm. It was delicious! We will be ordering from here again for sure!

I have had a few visits here now, and the most recent visit was on January 12, 2026. At the beginning of each new year, I like to try a place that I have never been to before, so January 1, 2026, was the first time I had come here. My mom was with me. Depending on when you come in general, parking can be limited at times with all the other businesses in this shopping center. Upon first look at the place from the outside, you can see the name and logo pretty easily. It looks similar to other places that happen to be in this same shopping center. We got here around 8 am on that first visit. When we came inside, it wasn't too busy yet, likely due to others probably still sleeping after being up past midnight for the new year. The inside of the place has a modern diner type of vibe, which fits the restaurant well. We were greeted and seated immediately. Our server Brooke came over pretty quickly and asked us what we would like to drink. I just do my usual of water with lemon, and my mom had gotten coffee. It would take us a little while to choose since there lots of good items to choose from. When she came back to check again, we were ready this time. I figured I'd get something I don't normally do, so I went for the French Toast Combo with scrambled eggs, bacon, and baked apples. My mom decided to go with the Ultimate Skillet with rye toast. The food would come out pretty quick. It was around ten minutes or so. Both breakfast entrees looked really good and they were hot. It felt like an indulgence when I started on the French toast since it has been a long time since having it. The baked apples were great too, and something else I don't normally have. I will note that I didn't get a blood sugar spike after this meal either that day. My mom enjoyed the Ultimate Skillet as much as I did with the French Toast Combo. After the experience from that first visit, we came back to try the lunch/dinner menu options for dinner that day. This visit was on January 12, 2026. After being seated initially, we moved over to a table since the booths were a bit tight. Kellie was our server on this visit. She asked us what we wanted to have to drink, and I went with water with lemon and my mom went with a coke. After taking some time to look over the menu, we were ready to order. My mom decided not to have too much, so she just went with the Loaded Baked Potato side item. I decided to try the Chipotle Chicken Ciabatta Sandwich with the homemade chips as the side. Just like the last time, it took about ten minutes or so for the food to come out. The sandwich I had was really good, and so were the homemade chips. This time, this meal did spike my blood sugar levels, but it was so good. My mom told me afterwards that the loaded baked potato she had come out cold. It was then that we let the server know, and she asked if she wanted to get it redone. She said no but wanted to take it home instead. The server did take off the cost of that item. It was likely due to it sitting before my sandwich was ready to bring them out together. Mom did get a box to bring it home and had it later that evening, and she said it was good when it was heated up at home too. Overall, we have had a few very good experiences here. The food and service were good, and the issue for my mom was handled well too. That shows they truly care about the experience of the visitors here. Both menus may be just two sides, but there is quite a bit to choose from. I think anyone would find something they would like here. There is one thing I want to note when it comes to paying. There is a 3% surcharge added to the total including taxes if you use a credit card instead of cash. In the end, if you are looking for a diner type of place, this one is worth checking out.

I was sitting in the parking lot of a large chain breakfast pulled up Yelp to see what I might be missing. Glad wasn't lazy...15 mins later I was in the parking lot for 185! If you haven't been to 185 on Little Florida Road in Poquoson, you are seriously missing out. This charming, family-owned neighborhood gem is everything a great local restaurant should be and then some. The moment I walked through the door, I felt it. You're not just a customer here; you're a guest. The welcome was immediate and genuine and set the tone for the whole experience before I even sat down. I ordered the brisket sandwich with sweet potato fries, and wow, it delivered. I was surprised the blackberry chipotle sauce worked BERY WELL! The brisket was tender, flavorful, and clearly made with care. Paired with perfectly seasoned sweet potato fries, it was the kind of meal that sticks with you long after you leave. This isn't reheated, thrown-together food, you can taste the love and craft in every bite. It was like Woman Power this morning with all ladies from front to back. Attentive, personable, and full of good energy, she made the whole experience even better. The kind of server who makes you feel like you're dining with a friend. Looks like 185 was ranked #87 on Yelp's Top 100 Restaurants in 2023, and after my visit, I completely understand why. The owners obviously had a beautiful vision and it is being executed incredibly...to my benefit today! Five stars, without question.
