Went out here for breakfast to try something new as we had never been here. I'll be honest, we were reluctant to go b/c a friend of mine had an extremely negative experience here years ago. I'm sure things have changed since their experience but it's surprising how one word of mouth experience can limit your options. But yes, we go out to breakfast - a lot. And we've been to just about every breakfast spot in the area and wanted something different. Coming here was a pleasant experience as we just happened to beat the other 'big' party. We were able to walk in and only wait about 10 minutes before we sat down. The place was PACKED! Like seriously difficult to navigate the area packed. I legit don't know how the servers navigate this area. It's quite a bit to take on with moving food around too. I will say that our server was a bit harsh at first but she warmed up quickly. I'm sure with all the hustle and bustle, it's a lot for them to process. When our food came in, I will say that it's definitely a solid 4. Not anything I would say would blow your mind, but definitely good. Overall, I would gladly come back as we had a pleasant enough experience to add this to our list of places to go. I live about three miles from here and ordered delivery. Ok, I cannot express enough how amazing everything was as far as quality is concerned. Everything was piping hot and looked exactly like it was served on a. Table at the diner. No soggy breads from excessive to go container steam is a big win in my book on my mid-well burger. We'd enjoyed lunches and dinners at Metro Diner but this was our first breakfast experience and it was a great one! My wife and I enjoyed the breakfast even more than the lunch and dinners we've had. The service is always good here, the servers are friendly, smiling and are always helpful, even more so when my 84 y.o. Mom visits. My Huevos Rancheros were wonderful and my wife really enjoyed her San Francisco Benedict. We are foodies and are not easy to impress but both meals were excellent. The kitchen staff is a WELL OILED MACHINE. I sat at the counter and enjoyed breakfast and a show. Really well done. The amount of bacon and potatoes they go through is astounding. The "egg guy" will perfectly poach, scramble, or fry and will toss it himself if it isn't perfect. Loved watching them work. I got the steak and scramble bowl. Very tasty. There's something about food cooked on a griddle that makes it much more honey and tasty. Great portion size. I watched plates go out an there was no way anyone is walking away hungry. The teriyaki steak bowl was very tender and flavorful. The Hawaiian pork bowl had a little bit of kick to it and the pineapple flavor combined well with the jalapeños. The burger bowl was my favorite and was very good especially the seasoned fries and the sauce that was on the burger. The pumpkin waffle had a cream cheese drizzle and cinnamon butter that made it super delicious. The seasonal bread pudding was pumpkin, and I would definitely get that again. There is always a long wait on Sunday mornings, which is understandable, but for some reason this past Sunday they had an entire row of benches blocked off so there was no room to sit while waiting - not pleasant for my 83-year-old mom. It was really hot outside so waiting out there that was not an option - plus the only benches outside are not shaded. My mom ordered the 3-cheese grilled cheese but with only one type of cheese. You would think they would have substituted the other cheeses with the type she selected, but instead she received 2 slices of cheese on some under-grilled bread. My egg on a croissant sandwich was ok but I'm not sure why it's listed under the lunch section instead of breakfast. We have been there multiple times and have always had a terrible time getting our eggs cooked medium, hence the change to our recent choices. There were plenty of servers but as usual, most of them were standing around the counter instead of cleaning off tables so waiting diners could be seated. At one point we counted 5 empty dirty tables when there was an entire crowd waiting. To top it off, the gift card we used, which had a balance of $26, was declined. The only option we were given was to use another payment method - thank goodness we had it. The manager took our name and number, but we have yet to receive an explanation as to where the money went. read more

I'm new to the area and have visited Metro twice , the food is absolutely delicious they have a wide variety of options . Most of the menu is comfort food , always well seasoned and has great flavor. Sorry, can't recommend a place to eat that you can't actually ever eat at. Every time we go for breakfast there's a RIDICULOUS wait. The food is decent but not worth waiting an hour or two when you just want to get a quick breakfast. No options to reserve a table and and no online waitlist (despite lying and saying they have one). Many other great places around that manage to actually be able to feed their patrons. read more

As you walk into this busy diner, you're struck by the scent of warm pancakes. It's lovely. The place is well staffed, so you're greeted quickly, and the service continues to be efficient and friendly. The only negative is how loud it is. This is a busy restaurant, and the noise from the kitchen and the patrons, combined with the music, makes conversation tricky, to the extent that I saw servers having trouble hearing customers. I'm not a quiet person, and I eventually just pointed to the menu. It wouldn't hurt to reduce the volume of the music, especially as the place fills up. Over half the plates going past our table had fried chicken in some form. It looked delicious. The next table had a child's order of tenders and fries, and the tenders were large and smelled delicious. The fries were beautiful as well, and looked crisp. Our food came out quickly, and it was as close to the photos from the website as you could ask. It amazes me that such a small, busy kitchen could turn out such consistent results. I got the "huevos rancheros " which are basically breakfast nachos. Delicious breakfast nachos. My eggs were cooked exactly to my preference, over medium. The plate was well balanced, with just the right amount of everything. I wish the chips were a bit smaller, and they were hard to cut into bite size pieces, and the bottom got soggy from the toppings. My husband had a Denver omelette, which was perfect, with lovely, crispy hash browns on the side. We went at 12:30 on a Thursday, and by the time we left, the restaurant was full. We have been driving by this place for a few years and decided today to try them out. I am made because I didn't know how good of an experience it was. Just so happen we are off this Veterans Day and just got done doing some yard work. I had the Turkey plate special which included slice roast turkey, mashed potatoes, cornbread dressing, brown gravy and green beans. Also on special today included pecan pie. Everything was delicious and hot. My wife had the Fried Chicken sandwich which also had cheese and thick cut bacon on it. She really enjoyed her meal as well. I know how good a restaurant is when I am already picking what I will get next visit. We are good and full and ready to enjoy the rest of our day. Also because it is Veterans Day I got our meal at half price as well. Really enjoy the staff as well. Very friendly and they don't keep you waiting too long as well. Again I am upset with myself for not coming sooner and if I had one negative thing to say was that it was cold where we sat at. Ordered takeout last night and it was ready quickly, packaged nicely, and the food was still hot when it got home. The Friday fish dinner was a huge portion and the breading on the fish was light and crispy. Fries and slaw were delicious and the side salad was fresh. I'm a sucker for diners, and Metro took the cake. There's so many options for breakfast, lunch, and dinner on the menu. It was a bit overwhelming, but if you want something light but filling, their soup and sandwich combo was delicious. The loaded potato soup was delicious (a bit on the salty side, but I like that) and the sandwich was simple but delicious. Our server, I think her name was Patty or Patricia (I'm so sorry if I'm wrong) was just wonderful. Quick, sweet, just an excellent server. Metro definitely gives military diner vibes. yo, half a chicken + waffles with some of the best seasoning you'll find from any chain restaurant. I don't know exactly who cooked my chicken but they're invited to the BBQ this summer. The eggs benedict stacked on tomatoes & avocado made us happy enough with all that hollandaise but then those hashbrowns stole the show. Wow, this was my first time at Metro Diner and needles to say, I was not impressed with the lack of service. It was around 8:30am, and the diner wasn't even crowded like they normally are...I ordered a breakfast sandwich and my sister ordered a breakfast sandwich with a side of corn beef hash; do you know it took well over 30 minutes to bring the food out. People who came in long after us were served, and they had a larger group. When the food did come out, it was wrong and had to be sent back. At that point I was irritated and I asked speak to a manager. Karen came over to address the issue and was very apologetic towards the timelines of getting the food out. She expressed that she would address this issue with the staff, and for our inconvenience she would comp our meals. She indicated that it should only take 6-8 minutes to get food out to the customer. (Failed) Well, we received our sandwiches, and they weren't that bad, however, it did take them another 20 minutes to bring out the side of corn beef hash, which was extremely dry. (Failed) I think it's safe to say our first experience was nothing to rave about and more than likely, I will not be dining there again. read more

I recently discovered Metro Diner through a coworker. She hasn't tried it yet, but she said that their food looks appetizing. With that in mind, I was looking forward to my visit to Metro Diner today. I went to the Suffolk location, which is in the Harbour View area. Metro Diner reminds me of Ihop and Egg Bistro. They serve breakfast/lunch menu all day, but they also have a dinner menu as well. A huge part of their menu is their chickens, eggs, and waffles. They also have beef and porks, and some seafood, but I think their chicken is their main staple. We initially ordered the chicken parmigiana and the crab cake benedict, but since we came in an hour before they close we were informed that they ran out of parmigiana so we have to substitute it with pulled pork mac. Our orders were prepped and served really fast, I think we only have to wait about 10 minutes. However when order came in, I noticed that it looks different. There's no crab cake and there's a ham in it so I told our server right away and she apologized for the mixup. She returned I really do not have any complaints about the food. The crab cake is really good especially with the poached eggs. The servings are huge. I was too stuffed that I can't finish my hash browns and the other half of my crab cake. The pulled pork with mac n cheese and waffles may seem weird at first, but together they tasted delicious. Our server was really nice and helpful. She apologized for bringing the wrong food and is knowledgeable about the menu. I just wished she is more attentive when it comes to refills. As for the restaurant, it looks clean and spacious. We will definitely be back to try other stuff from their menu. We really enjoyed our meal and we wanted to try the chicken and waffles for next time. read more

Walked in around 10am on a Saturday. Nobody was at the desk. She was over talking to another employee. She finally comes over and looks at us and tells us 30min wait. The place was half empty. I asked her why. She said those tables were reserved. Even the back section was empty. We walked out. Never again will we go there. There are a lot other places to eat. Hands down some of the best Chicken and Waffles I have had. The chicken was hot and crispy right out of the fryer and with such great flavor.
