I had locked my key in my scooter box. I had gone to some other locksmiths and was told it would cost over a $100 and that was if there weren't any problems, even if I brought the scooter to them. I rode up to Metro Lock and with just a few attempts they picked the lock and then charged me a minimal fee, like $20.00. They were also very professional and polite. read more

When we moved into our apartment, our inner buzzer wouldn't unlock the front gate nor door. Management called these guys to fix it. It got half-way fixed (it's complicated to explain why only half-way, but it wasn't the locksmith's fault) and then Management sold the building. We still couldn't unlock the outer gate and our baby was just weeks away from being born. I need that gate fixed. And quick like. Luckily these guys were called out again to finish the job by the new Management. Every single interaction I have had in-person and over the phone with any of these great lock-picking-fixing men has been wonderful. They've been helpful, responsive, sympathetic and willing to do what it took to get the job done. I had been putting off getting four locks rekeyed for months (years, actually). I finally picked up the phone and was immediately greeted by Matt. I explained the job parameters and we scheduled an appointment a few days out. The appointment window was one-hour (10-11am) yet Matt called that morning to tell me the tech, Dan, could be early if I wanted. Once Dan showed up, he expeditously rekeyed the lock cores, handing me the previouly cut new keys (he even threw in one extra, thanks!). He was professional, upbeat, and explained to me what he was doing, and we chatted little about Metro Locksmiths & the biz... I have managed property for 20 years now & sell residential real estate in the City, so I understand the power of image when interacting with the public. Many vendors show up late, drunk or on drugs (no kidding), or smelling like an ashtray, not someone you want to call upon when in a pickle. My experience with Metro Locksmiths was just the opposite, they will be receiving my business from here on out... Oh, and they're reasonably priced, too! read more

Okay, here's the deal ... I call this place on a Tuesday. And their phone system is horrible. I kept getting put on hold only to have my call ring on some other desk and then on hold again and blah, blah, blah. Finally, I get a human and I'm told that they can get to me on Thursday afternoon. Huh? Two days to wait? But, okay, what do I know so I confirm the appointment. Then Thursday comes and I take time off from work to be home and ... nothing. No one shows. I finally get a message that someone is on the way but by 10 p.m. I decide to call it a day and go up to bed. Oh, and they "close" at 5 p.m. so you can't call. On Friday morning I try to call and find out what's going on but I get trapped in their stupid telephone tag system again so I hang up and call YES! Locksmiths who get a guy out to me in 45 minutes!! I think this business is wonderful, even though they couldn't help me!! I needed help with a type of lock they don't service, but the contact (Frances) was friendly, cheerful, and helpful. She was clear in what I needed to send her (photos), and got back quickly to tell me that they couldn't help...however, she did have a recommendation and gave me the name, phone number and address of the locksmith. How great is that!?!? They are now in my phonebook to call next time I need a locksmith formy doors! read more

I'm not sure of these recent poor reviews as I have always been well served by Metro Locksmiths. Here is my word of caution to anyone who gets locked out of their residence : There are big time scammers out there to take advantage of your situation and they will charge an arm and a leg to get you back into your house as you feel the anxiety of being locked out. I was one of them who got charged over $500 to get into my house under an emergency situation. NEVER, ever, troll for any locksmith available. Call Metro 24 hour service. Yes, you'll pay more than regular service but not robbed like the other slimy companies. So back to my review : I had a situation today where I needed to get into a property that the owner who was out of town left for me to take care of some business. The lower of 2 locks was not to have been locked but alas, it was. So had to call Metro. Called, gave them my situation, they said it would be an hour, it was 30 minutes and Andrew showed up to save the day ! Charges were less than half of another experience mentioned above and was extremely happy with the outcome. I have had them provide an entry system and other lock issues for my rental property and have always been happy with their work, charges and response. read more

My problem with this place is the inconsistency in service. Tech comes out and he is good but getting them to your house is a total pain. We called and didn't hear anything so then we called back and set up an appointment. The technician was given the wrong address so he didn't show up and there was confusion about that. Then he didn't have the items he needed to fix our gate so he was going to come back once we ordered them and then when we ordered them nobody would respond and then when they responded they told us it would take another week for them to call and tell us when the technician could come back. At that point I was totally over it and hung up in anger and called The Wire Guy and that went smoothly. read more

This is probably high there as the worst company I have ever dealt with. Signed up for a job months ago, gave them all info they needed, signed up all paper works and paid them 50% deposit..They don't call you, no emails and when you call them, it's like you are bothering them...I would not recommend this to anyone, unless you have patience to wait for a year just to get something done. I will echo the complaints against management- the owner is extremely rude and dismissive. He closed 40 minutes early without warning (despite my calling in to ask, after being left on hold) and he shut the door on me while I was mid sentence. There are many other places to copy keys- choose another. read more

Excellent customer service! Wish I knew about these guys years ago. Discovered them on a Saturday at 11am when I wanted to have a deabolt re-keyed (not an unusual or unreasonable project to want to complete on a Saturday). Every other locksmith was closed. Metro Locksmiths came and changed all the locks on our place for a new renter. Within a month, one of the strikeplates needed adjustment. Metro Locksmiths charged an extra $155 to make that adjustment. I think a good company would stand behind their work. read more

Bad customer service and overcharge. First, they charged me $180 for opening the door as the key they gave me did not work. I had to pay for the key that did not work and the fees for them to open the door and a new key. Second, another staff, Angela said no one is available and asked me to wait until after hour to send a staff so they can charge after hour rate. Bad practice. I hope other staff do not practice the way she did. read more

I had locked myself out of my home around 8:15 am and had a 9am conference call. I looked up Metro lock which is a few blocks away and I pass all the time walking in the neighborhood. The website showed they did not open until 8:30 am and I promptly called then. AND Rick answered. He had someone to my house at 8:48 and I was inside in time for my call. The onsite guy was great and the service Rick provided outstanding! Hope I don't lock myself out again but when I do, these are the folks to call! read more

In looking for a company to install a buzzer system for our front door, another company highly recommended Metro Locksmiths, so i scheduled an appointment for a quote. The gentleman on the phone said that the owner(manager) was the best person for what i was requesting. The day came for my appointment and they no showed. The next day i arrived to a missed call saying that i wasnt here for my appointment when they came. Funny because neither were they. He came did his inspection and told me i would have a quote emailed to me by the next monday. Monday came and went. Tuesday i emailed asking about my quote, nothing. So i called and they have no quote. They need to research and find my quote. I have never had to beg a company to do what apparently they were so highly recommended for. read more

Trustworthy, quick and friendly. Metro has "saved the lives" of me AND my tenants more than once. I can't recommend them enough.

With the exception of the fact that they are not open Sundays, I think this business is perfect! (And really, if it hadn't been a Sunday that I needed keys copied, I likely would have no problem with them taking the Sabbath off). Very friendly employees, clean space, and convenient location. I have to use this locksmith because my building has an agreement with them. They're friendlier in person than they are on the phone, and parking on this stretch of Divisadero can be tricky. Once you're inside though, service is fast and reasonable. read more

In the last 2 months, Metro has incorrectly rekeyed the building compromising its security and without authorization changed the function of our electronic entry system rendering it unusable for residents in the building. They have yet to successfully do a job right. If I have a say they'll never touch our building again. read more

Metro has what strikes me as an odd business practice. At the end of a lock replacement, they gave me a document labeled "invoice" and asked me to sign the invoice at the bottom, even though I had just given them a check for the full amount of the charges. The signature section was labeled "Authorization for security/emergency services" and concluded with the following statement: "FURTHER, I AGREE TO ABSOLVE THE LOCKSMITH WHO BEARS THIS AUTHORIZATION FROM ANY AND ALL CLAIMS ARISING FROM THE PERFORMANCE OF SUCH WORK." I objected to signing this because it appeared that I was waiving any rights should a problem with their work arise. Does anyone know if any other locksmith insists on the customer signing such a form? They wanted me to believe that their work comes with a six month warranty, which I was suppose to take on the basis of an oral representation while they walked away with a written waiver. Anybody else even notice what you were signing when dealing with Metro? read more

Had a keypad entry system and lock installed by metro lock. They were oddly defensive and unpleasant from day one. I should have know better. Now we have had problems with our lock since the very moment it was as installed (keys not working or sticking, lock not engaging and closing), which they have failed to take responsibility for. Super obvious it is their issue to fix but they wouldn't. YES Locksmiths came out to repair their sloppy work and fixed it in about 10minutes. Metro locksmiths does not stand by their work and they seem to like blaming customers. Avoid working with this company. It will save you lots of time and money if you use Warman Security or YES Locksmith instead. read more

Just because no one has written a review in a while, I'll report on how nice Rick the manager was when I called, somewhat cluelessly, to see about getting our intercom telephone entry fixed at work. He kindly explained that it could be the phone connection which could be fixed for free, but if that wasn't the case to call back and ask for him. read more

I went in to Metro Lock today to get a key copied. The first man asked if i was a landlord or tenant. i said "I own my own home." He replied that i would need a letter from the apartment building manager. I repeated "I own the building!" Apparently the staff at Metro Lock does not know that women can own their own homes. The "manager" continued to take phone calls while I just stood there. He checked my ID while talking on the phone, and someone made my key while he was talking on the phone. When he finally got off the phone I stated that I worked too and did not want to stand there all day listening to him take phone calls. I got no apology. The men in this place are rude and sexist. The "service" was terrible. I do not recommend this place at all. read more

Metro came to look at a pretty straightforward job (replacing spindles in mortise locks on a few doors), told me it would take 2-3 weeks to get the parts, then became hard to reach a month later when I asked for an update on the parts. (A man did eventually call to say they needed 2 more weeks, so we closed the project). When Metro stopped returning calls I phoned Brownie Hardware and asked if they could recommend a locksmith. Victor Wong showed up 2 hours later and asked me if I wanted the job finished by that evening. I should have let Metro go when it took 4 tries to convince their technician that I wanted to retain the same door knobs and rosettes (antiques). He kept saying, "So we'll replace the lock sets and put in door knobs that look like these?" each time after I told him "We want to keep these knobs - these same pieces of metal and glass will be on these doors after the job is done." Metro has a nice-looking shop. And their guy did show up when he said he would. They didn't charge me. But they got nothing done. read more

I would rate this locksmith company with an A+ for Customer Service and for performance. I gave them a tough assignment (3 rekeys and 11 custom installs), and they did a superb job. There were very fairly priced, and they showed up on time and were very professional. I will definitely keep this locksmith in my rolodex for future use, and I would recommend them to anyone else looking for a dependable and professional locksmith. read more

5/3 Doorbell intercom was not working. Technician came over and spent 2.5hr and could not fix the problem. Paid $267.50 and no solution? Was told they would follow up after meeting supervisor and schedule repair. Received a call a month later and asked if the doorbell works? If metro cannot fix the problem during the initial appointment. Do not paid until the problem is resolve. read more

Pathetic. I called for a locksmith at 1230am and the first thing they asked me is if I have an account with them. Why would someone have an account with a locksmith? So they can get the latest news for locksmiths? I mean how stupid is that? I ended up unlocking my door MYSELF but in the future if I ever need a locksmith this is definitely a place I am not going to call. read more
