Date of visit: December 14, 2025 I haven't been in this location in years, as this just isn't a part of town that I get to all that much but I was down the street at Colectivo with some friends and needed a couple items, so it made sense to pop down here to snag them. I either forgot or didn't realize that all of the traditional "grocery" items--those things you would find in the middle of the store at most grocers--are actually upstairs, with the lower level all of the more specialty items, though it was nice to walk through these other areas and fully appreciate that this is a bit of an upscale store; a true Metro Market as opposed to the one near me in Glendale that is a Pick N Save with a new sign. Once I headed upstairs I was able to find all of the things that I needed and even perused the Clearance section. This level was definitely in rougher shape than the fancy lower level, though it was also busier so that makes sense though I was expecting a bit more given that this is supposed to be a higher caliber of store. All in all, it gets the job done, but not really something that I would go out of my way to return to in the future. read more

I've been going to this store for the last 4 years and have been so impressed with the changes and improvements that have been made. The improvement in both customer service and merchandising has been great. Excellent service at the butcher counter, the pharmacy and at check out. And the cheese "shop" is great, plus a surprisingly good wine shop for a grocer - the small "global" shelf is especially good. I feel lucky to have this Metro Market as our every day shopping spot. read more

Ugh I can't seem to get fully on board with this Metro Market. Maybe it's because I don't frequent it enough, so when I do I really have no idea what I'm doing. It's that massive. Personally, I wouldn't suggest this place for a quick pop in to grab one or two items because you'll not only be getting your steps in but you'll be looking for said items for awhile! I recently went due to convivence of location on my way to somewhere. The parking is convenient I guess, as it's in a garage, but it's still a bit of a maze depending on which floor of the grocery store you want to end up on. At this supermarket you will however find everything you can think of. No shortage of options. Massive bakery section, tons of grab-and-go meals, good selection of produce, pressed juices, foods from around the globe, and beyond. Oh and there's a full bar where you can grab a drink and food. More than a grocery store really. I'd say on the pricier end for most things imo. I can see the hype but I can also see the gripe. read more

Uuuggghhhhhhh As if MM wasn't bad enough, now they've added a "liquor cage" on the 2nd floor for the hard alcohol and the most popular items. There is a register and you are supposed to check out right there. However, the checkout area is so tiny, maybe 1 item can fit can on the counter. There seems to be 1 employee (the manager for that dept who probably works 50+ hrs a week) and if he is not there, no one monitoring this area. So what was the point of constructing this and cutting down on inventory? They removed all the lane checkouts on the second floor except for three. This makes sense as there is usually only one open anyway. They rearranged the self-checkout area so there are eight total. However, they are all the small sized self checkout - these are so difficult to deal with when you have a cart full of groceries. In general they are very close together, I'm often bumping into the person's cart ahead/behind me and a group of people at one self checkout (i.e., a family) means that at least one other is blocked. Today, I ran in to get just 5 items. All were located on the second floor. It took me nearly 20 minutes because the store was so crowded; employees that look like they were stocking were standing around and talking about their personal life very audibley with inappropriate language. I needed an ID check at the self-checkout and the two employees that I think were working this zone went over to the employee working the one open lane.... inwatched as two other employees just walked by and acted as if the 8 of us trying to check out were invisible. It took several minutes until anyone came for the ID check. Meanwhile, my milk is getting warm and probably beginning to curdle.... I do not understand why the temperature of the store is set to 80 degrees - it is SO HOT in there. I'll leave my winter jacket in the car and still feel sick due to the temperature. This most likely directly contributes to how fast the produce goes bad after purchasing. Lately, I'll pick up a couple veggies, put them in the fridge, and they will be bad within 3 days. My milk always sours before the best by date (probably because I can't get it out of the store quick enough). It's difficult to avoid shopping at MM as I can easily walk to/from. However, it is almost always a stressful experience. The parking structure is also a nightmare and so much worse when it is busy. I've worked in customer service (retail) since 2006. I can see (and hear) how the vast majority of employees on the sales floor do not care about the customer experience. It is very sad, as I was taught to always take pride in my job no matter how crummy it might be. I feel the only way to improve the employee culture is through education/training. The culture, as a whole, of America is just really down lately. If I could pick up a pt gig at MM to help out, I would - but I was actually called back to my retail position on weekends as there are not enough employees. One day I hope I can write an update that is 4 stars... I want my local grocery store to do well. But the overall experience is dreadful :( read more

My early stop today at Metro Market felt like perfect timing: got a parking space near the door, produce was being freshly stocked, and no apparent lines at checkout. Produce did not disappoint, either. I wanted green bananas and asparagus. Found them easily in attractive displays in a super clean produce area. Bam! I then saw the Starbucks coffee bar, and thought to stop. Unfortunately, it was not staffed. But, I checked my watch and saw I'd still be able to stop a block away at the full service Starbucks anyway. And then there was checkout. There are no staffed lanes; all but two of the self-serve lanes were closed as well. The screen on the one open for me was not showing a welcome, but rather seemed stopped in mid transaction. When I asked the staff person standing 2 feet away for assistance, she looked up only long enough to roll her eyes and tell me to poke the screen until it was ready for a new customer. While the asparagus was an easy scan and weigh, the bananas were not because they had no bar code. Again, with an eye roll I was told to do a name look up. That option didn't show up on my screen, but I again poked my way through the transaction. Finally, ready for check out, I located the card reader to the left of the screen (why when the exit is to the right?) Clearly the produce staff was trained well to do their job, but the check out staff -- namely me -- is expected to do their job without instruction or practice. I quit. read more

Has anyone in management at this store ever heard of customer care. Check out is complete bollocks. Self-serve check out required a staff person to check age, to receive the coupons scanned, to fix the weight scale and to rescan items that had been already scanned. Also the arrangement of shelf items is a puzzle with no one around to ask questions of. We had coupons that were mailed to the house, but the store did not have the items on the coupons. I really don't like to leave crappy reviews unless the management doesn't respond in person on two visits and several phone calls, so here we go. Kroger I hope you're listening. This place just hasn't been the same. I understand there are staffing issues, I understand that we have stress in our work environment, or to not respond to problems within your store is not good business. I went to your store September 13th and ordered your Patagonian shrimp. When I returned home my wife said oh my God what stinks so badly. It was in my bag and it was the shrimp. Completely and utterly disgusting. Something that should've been thrown out a week ago. How could you serve this if it smells so bad. Called multiple times no answer, went in person my wife waited for a half hour. Sorry will take it off your credit card. Looked at my credit card statement and they deducted 7.20 and it should have been $12.34. Shrimp is still in the cooler being sold as is. Disgusting. I can't shop here anymore. This place is kinda weird because the parking is a multi level garage and the store is multi level also which is not the typical store with an elevator if you need one. We stopped here because the lady shops here and we needed things so it was an eye opener with the parking garage and no spaces. The place looks like your typical Metro but just arranged differently because of the small foot print on two floors. I saw a hot food bar, cafe, floral, wine section, liquor section, coffee shop and all the other Metro offerings. I anticipate shopping here more since the woman lives close and likes the place. read more

The PIck 'N Save-Roundy's-Metro Market-Mariannos-Kroger corporate model is an interesting slice of the American social stratification layer cake. We are not a melting pot, we are not the assimilation pressure cooker of a century ago, we are a very poorly tossed salad. If you need to budget food consumption, this is not the store for you. This is not a place to stock up on staples, unless you use the adjective "artisinal" to describe your staples. This store has an olive bar. Admittedly I only recently learned what an olive bar is, so I am not the prime demographic here. This is a much better place for pretentious grocery shopping than Whole Foods however. Great selection of specialty and unusual cheeses, whole grain breads, gourmet prepared foods, allegedly organic produce and dairy products, they do have a nice choice for high end tastes. Prices are commensurate with what they are selling, this isn't the place for bargains per se, but I did get a good deal on some caviar and prosciutto. One of the oddest things about this supermarket is that there isn't just a coffee bar, there's an actual bar on the other end of the store from the coffee bar. The only bartender seems to be Demetra, she's very good. It's so peculiar, but it's actually a very relaxing place to have a drink in the middle of the afternoon, sunny, nice view, comfortable and peaceful. This store is the worst Metro Mart I have ever been in. Unfortunately, it is one of the only grocery stores in Shorewood. The shelves are often not stocked, it is dirty, there are often no carts inside the store when you need one because they're all outside in the parking garage. Having lived in Chicago I witnessed the success of Roundy's Mariano's grocery model- updated stores that catered to urban professionals and families, including a place to relax with beer, wine, jazz. It's good to see this model somewhat executed at metro market in Shorewood by Kroger. And while it's nice to see a bar and space to hang out here, there are plenty of great bars in the area. I have no problem with a two-story grocery store, that's what you get in a tight urban space, but this metro market has a horrible layout. Enter on the first floor and you'll be met with a maze of produce, blocking any straight path. I like the flower selection here, as I'm usually at this metro market to grab flowers and items for work events that I run. Self checkout is easy, and if I can find street parking that helps me avoid the cluster that is old people trying (with great difficulty) to navigate a simple parking garage. I had my worst food shopping experience ever this morning. The store has eliminated all cashiers - only self checkout - inadequate assistance when the scanners hit a snag. We used to be regular shoppers here. But then came news that Kroger (Metro's parent company) was abusing its employees during the pandemic. So we diverted the lion's share of our business to Trader Joe's and Costco. Nevertheless, I made what I hoped to be a quick stop at Metro yesterday to pick up a few things they just don't carry at Trader Joe's and Costco. And now I deeply regret it. The place was so disorganized that it took a half hour to do 10 minutes worth of shopping. People were packing into the elevators, some with their tiny masks pulled down below their noses. And when I asked the bagger standing a couple feet away a question at the end of it all, the idiot pulled his mask down to answer me. I hope yesterday's misadventure doesn't lead to me getting infected. But either way, I'm done with this place. read more

I'm a fan of metro market. It just has a lot of variety and a lot of options. I like it more so for the lower level. It's also close to my therapist, so it's easy to pop over. It's a nice grocery store and kept clean. Sushi options are usually great and I've enjoyed the ones I've picked up from there. Hot bar has some awesome breaded shrimp that I'll indulge in even though I'm gluten free. Prices are average. I hate the parking garage, but everything else is fine. read more

Things are a little mixed in here. Rating is overall feelings, but there are so many little sections in here... I'll focus on the food I've had in here. Ramen - 1 star $8.99 for a bowl of tondos or spicy tonkotsu broth with toppings you can choose from. Broth (most important for me) was savory. However, it is not a broth that they have been brewing for hours. It's a paste that they mix with hot water and pour over your ramen ingredients. It was surprisingly good, but that putting together put a damper on my tastebuds all the same. I can get those instant ramen noodles that is put together similarly for under $2. Noodles were really like instant noodles... they were thin and basically a very cheap quality. Toppings. Of the 6 toppings written in the menu, 4 were in Japanese and I didn't know what they were. But you can look at the toppings and just chose from there instead of trying to read the menu. The egg was perfect! Perfectly cooked with just the right amount of underdone yolk. But everything else was a bleh. The pork belly topping had a smell from having been precooked and sitting there in the cold. They don't warm it up or anything - it's just a chunk of boiled meat thrown in the bowl, so it's not even hot when you eat it. though they give you like 5-6 pieces, I couldn't eat more than 2. The bamboo shoots were too thick and had a vinegary taste. As far as the presentation goes, they seriously just dumped everything in the bowl, whisked up the paste and hot water, and poured it on top. The perfectly done egg was upside down! I moved the meat up and made it look more presentable before taking a picture just for the sake of presentation. I really, really wanted to like this ramen, because I'm all for eating good ramen. (There's this place in Chicago where they sell ramen inside a grocery store, and I'd go there any day of the week) Unfortunately, this one is a bleh. Plus the price point for this is way too high. Unless they improve on the meat, I'm not sure that I'd eat here again even if it was $4. Pho I didn't have this dish, but did ask for a taste of the broth. They gave me a little bit of the chicken broth, which was actually quite savory. And this one they didn't make out of paste, but had boiling down in a pot. My friend had the beef pho, and I sampled a little bit of that broth, which was also pretty good. But I only checked out the broth, so can't say whether it's really good or not. Sushi I didn't have the sushi. But as a tip, you get just pick up the pre made sushi that is displayed, or ask them to make you something. They will make it for you right there. That's nice and fresh! Draft beer - 5 stars $2 for all their 16 oz beers! And $10 for their growlers, which are only 32 oz. so get the mugs. Their wine menu said $6, but I only got a glimpse. I did buy some bottles of wine on a previous visit from upstairs and brought it down to the eating area to have beer, and the bartender was super nice and said he'd open the bottles for us and give us glasses! Also at the eating location, they have a microwave so you can buy other foods from the store and bring it over to eat. I'm thinking some snacks to go with the $2 beers. Oh, and remember the $5 donut deal on Fridays! They have dozen donut boxes pre-made near the entrance, but you can also make your own box at the bakery section. So though the Ramen experience was disappointing, the bar definitely makes up for it. There is also a grill area to get burger and brats freshly cooked, a pizza station, poke bowl station, stir fry section, hot and cold sandwiches... you can also make your own cheese platter, but mixes, olive mixes... Some may miss the old Pick 'n Save, and some may still be upset that Sendik's closed because of the competition... I just miss the old Metro Market (pre-Covid), the one where the parking lot didn't smell like marijuana 24/7. Over the last few years this place has taken a nose dive. The prices are sky high and the employees seem like they'd rather be anywhere but there. But the worst part is how the clientele has changed. I was just there today with my two kids, and when we got of our car on the 2nd level, there were a few people hotboxing a white Mercedes SUV. They noticed me notice them, and then opened up the car door to say something. I had my two kids with me and was not the least bit interested in engaging in conversation. Fortunately, by the time we came back they were gone, but I was ready to call the police if need be. I swear the Shorewood Police Department could have a field day busting people getting high in that parking lot. Oh yeah, and there was a shooting there last year. That's right, someone fired a gun in the parking lot of a grocery store. I dread going there now, and will only do so if absolutely necessary. read more

I should not have to beg and be jerked around to get gouged for an overpriced sandwich. One associate says they had it pre-made in the case. I looked and there wasn't one! The next associate said they don't make that kind of sandwich anymore. When I asked the second associate why it is still on their digital menu board, he couldn't provide any reasonable answer. So, I went to customer service to speak to a manger about this experience and the manager couldn't be bothered to collect the feedback. Clearly this is all symptomatic of a broken service culture. If corporate ever reads this: you need to fire a lot of your leadership in this store and train the remaining staff, because they are going to drive you out of business. There are no cashiers to check you out and you will have to bag your own groceries. It's very loud. It smells awful. Half the food is as sour as the employees attitudes. They never have cash at the self checkouts nor do they accept ApplePay so bring your card. Lock your car doors because someone keeps breaking into people's cars. Muy basura. Would not recommend. I never have these problems at Whole Foods or Trader Joe's. Also the 11 new self checkouts on the second level are a fire hazard. This place is crazy! Never been to a supermarket quite like this. Two floors, live music, beer and wine bar, pizza, bbq, oyster bar, and on, and on. I think this fancy place is great for the area they chose. They have a lot of specialty stuff, from the massive meat counter to the bakery. We wanted to let the "hype" die down and decided to come on the first Saturday a week after the grand opening. Despite taking our time getting here the place is still very busy. Parking though wasn't difficult and navigating the store was also a breeze. The aisles are some of the widest I've seen in any grocery store and the selection is second to none. Right now lots on special so get them deals while they have em. This will be our new go to spot when looking for that lil something other places may not have. Ever since I heard Pic-N-Save had merged with Kroger, I have been waiting with anticipation for a Kroger-like store here in Milwaukee. I assumed the new Metro Market would be this store! Maybe, but I'll have to reserve judgement for now. The first floor looks awesome with the many specialty "bars" and gleaming butcher counter with huge meat selection. Rack of lamb a month before Easter! Unfortunately, my first try at the soup and salad bars told me this was not a Kroger. The Cheesy broccoli soup was not too good and tasted like it is out of a can. The salad bar was fresh and I had a tasty Greek pasta salad as a dressing for my greens since they only had pre-packaged dressings. The biggest problems with this store have nothing to do with the food, however. Parking is a nightmare. The parking ramps are laid out by a kindergarten engineer as people coming and going have to cross one another's' paths on every level causing huge back-ups. The levels are not clearly marked, so when you try to find your car after shopping it is a scavenger hunt. Especially if you park on a level in between grocery store floors like I did. Another engineering-architectural problem is the two floor layout and how to move between floors. The choices are large elevators or stairs. I had assumed they would have a cart escalator like Whole Foods on Prospect. You need to carefully plan your shopping to avoid needing to go up and down more than once. I never made it past the first aisle upstairs as they have an international aisle and I was able to find what I was looking for in that aisle. When I checked out, my bill was only $26 for two full bags of groceries! This is certainly worth the hassle. However, in our time-crunched day and age, I will run through Sendick's unless I need a lot of groceries. read more

This is a great store! OMG can I just get a sleeping bag and move in. So much great stuff that you can't find in other places. What a fun way to spend an afternoon just going up and down and up and down and up and down and up and down and up and down....whew there are alot of aisles. Couldn't do anymore. Two floors of fun. Bottom floor is fresh and fun stuff - top floor is classic staples. More than enough options to choose from for a quick bite and you can hang out and eat it here too. Or take it home with you while you grab the milk and cookies for later. I agree with everyone that it's like a whole foods but it's not which means it's affordable and that makes all the difference. Would I change anything? Just wish they had the cart escalators - kind of hard to deal with carts in an elevator. Can't wait to see how it keeps evolving to stay fresh and fun. Pretentious, overpriced, terrible layout, hazardous parking ramp, mostly unpleasant employees. Recently they closed with no prior notice and when they reopened still had the wrong hours posted on their website! I ran in for a couple of things so I haven't had a chance to explore the marketplace area yet but will update my review when I do. Based on all of the scary reviews of the parking garage, I snagged a street spot. Probably a wise choice considering I had to get in and out quickly. The ground level consists of a place you can drink booze, a place to eat oysters, sushi, a fancy jacked-up bakery, Starbucks, a normal P&S deli and all of the produce from what I could tell. So that is essentially the fun part of the store. From here you can take one of the three elevators or climb the stairs which we opted for since we didn't have a cart. When you get upstairs you are greeted by the alcohol section and can't miss it. Other than that, it's literally your plain Jane grocery store complete with aisles and registers. Nothing fancy noticed here. I do like that they have registers upstairs and downstairs (another smaller area of checkouts near the market area too). Check it out. It sure beats shopping at Wal-Mart. read more

Consistent disappointment. Have not failed to get sick from their hot bar foods, even when eating it earlier in the day such as noon. I do warn everyone not to eat it. -Hot bar food doesn't taste right it seems. Cheese is overpriced. 8 dollars for a block that normall sells for ~4 in central wisconsin. I brough up this concern with management but wasn't taken seriously. Every can or bottle of condiment is at least 5 dollars. I just can't afford to shop for items here as a young adult in milwaukee. Have purchased chicken breasts that spoiled a day later in the fridge. Checkouts hardly staffed by hot bar. I'd heard good things about this new location and was impressed when I visited last night. It's odd going to a two story grocery store with pushing carts around and all, when you have one stair case and one elevator (maybe two but I saw one). There are checkouts on both floors and at both ends of the first floor. The café offers smoked BBQ, hot sandwiches, pizza, a sushi bar, an oyster bar, and an actual bar where you can sit and purchase craft beer or wine. There is a place to buy confections, a large bakery selection, and a large meat and seafood counter. On the second floor is where the dry foods, freezers and refrigerated items, like dairy and pre-packaged meats, are kept. I was surprised at how many "sale" tags I saw as I walked upon and down the aisles and also surprised at the selection of international, organic, and gluten-free foods. I hope they plan to keep all of that up. The cashier told me it was essentially a "beta." Well, I hope they can convert the downtown location into this model, or better yet, turn one of the 3 Pick-n-Save's near my house into one! I wouldn't drive across town to shop here, but if I'm on the east side, which happens often, I'd likely come back here vs shop at the downtown Metro Market. read more

I visit the Metro Market on Oakland at least once a week to enjoy the Soup Bar, the Salad Bar, and the wide variety of beers at $2.00 a pint. The store opened in February of 2016 and I started shopping there right away. Employees and managers were cheerful and polite, and everyone seemed commited to excellent customer service. Three years later, the employees are still working hard, but somebody up in management has slacked off. It's demoralizing for clerks and customers alike. The prepared food areas constantly run out of supplies. A few weeks ago, there were no napkins for days. (A nice guy at the grill gave me some sheets of paper towels.) Sometimes there are no soup crackers or spoons. They've run out of medium-sized soup cups twice in the last six weeks. The salad bar has taken a beating too. It usually has Italian Chicken, which is breast meat with a mild seasoning. It's usually the only healthy meat available. Several times recently, there was no chicken, just cubes of ham and two containers of bacon. The dressing selection has become a little sad. All the bottles are sticky and many are nearly empty. The Metro Market's desire to employ fewer clerks has led to check-out areas with one human and five or six machines. We come here often, and sometimes we are happy customers. Usually when buying ordinary items. When it comes to "ready made food" it's not ready, and barely food. The rotisserie chicken was not cooked fully, and the warm food bar was cold. As for customer service, they never talk to you or look happy to be there. The self checkout lady just sat on her phone the whole time and never even looked at us, and didn't take our basket... If you're in the area and don't want to go to Walmart, this is your best bet. I was just recently in the Metro Mart on Oakland Ave. in Shorewood, WI and although I do realize that there is a shortage of people that want a job or need to work but I was past livid when I went to check out and the cashier would run one item over the scanner and then start texting on her phone and repeated this behavior until my $73.20 order was completely scanned (approx. 15 mins later).....and then I was told I could bag all my own groceries.....while she continued to text on her cell phone......WTH???? So disappointed that the management team at this location has allowed employees to first and foremost, to use their cell phones while checking people out but also have allowed this beautiful location to sink to below normal standards. I only go there now out of total desperation....no longer because it's a great shopping experience like it used to be. So sad to say the least. This place becomes less vegan/vegetarian friendly every time I go. The deli is now ALL meat and cheese, and the pre-made salads and stuff are all next to each other without real denominators so the meat and cheese contaminates the rest of the food. Oh did I mention NOTHING IS MARKED? No ingredient list, no vegan marker...just deal with bacon bits falling all over your food and take a chance. It's gross and unsanitary! The "meat alternatives" section keeps getting smaller and there's actual MEAT in the section! I almost bought something before I realized that it wasn't fake. Metro Market gets "natural" confused with vegetarian/vegan. It's so annoying to have to hunt around for the ever shrinking sections for plant-based diets. Nothing is organized sensibly, it's dirty, I find stuff that's moldy or super expired on a regular basis. Why go here when I could go to any other local grocery store? read more

Disappointed with customer service. I had an issue on Sunday. I talked to the manager, Stephanie, who told me that I "don't have to shop there." It's true, however, not something I would expect such a public place to respond, especially considering poor publicity regarding minorities and disabled people recently. I submitted a complaint through the website and had no response. I called today. Greg informed me that he would pass the information to the store director, Andrew. I'm not very hopeful of any follow through or follow up since Greg didn't even ask for my name or contact information. read more
