STAY AWAY! I took my car here for an oil change and tire rotation. When I picked my car up all the tires were completely flat. Not a huge deal, they were apologetic and filled them with air for me. BUT over the next few weeks my car started stalling out so I took it to a dealership. The problem- there was NO oil in my engine. No leak either, seems Georgetown shell drained the oil out of my engine and then just never put new oil in. In the end cost me a few hundred $$ to fix but worse put me in several dangerous situations driving when the car suddenly stalled. read more

Georgetown Shell is awesome. I started hearing my brakes squeak so I made an appointment online. That part is super easy, and Bobby was quick to get back to me. Today, I brought my car down and met Bobby in person-- totally a car dude. Talk to him for just a few seconds and you'll want him near your vehicle. He's very honest and beyond fair. I didn't need new brakes. In fact, Bobby said they were in good shape and explained the squeak (won't bore you w/ details of my car). The guys also made sure my tires were properly inflated and checked a few other things-- no charge! They found a brake light was out so I asked them to fix it... I walked in expecting new brakes and only paid for a new bulb. I know very little about cars... as in, gas means go, brake means stop... and I totally trust these guys. There's a good, honest vibe in there. The only reason I didn't want to write this review is because it'll probably be harder to get an appointment haha I will definitely be back (and they're as far across town as you can get). read more

I raised the problems via text and in person when I picked the car up and the manager was very clear that he would not fix the issues. The gentleman who runs the little sundries shop was very sympathetic. The manager was not at all and dismissed me and has lost a customer. Overpriced and rude customer service. Brought my car in to investigate an odd sound - turns out it was just the battery and they wanted $330 for a new battery, I said no thanks as this is super overpriced (I have an old Toyota, nothing fancy or specialized). The man I dropped the car off with and spoke to on the phone about price was reasonable and trying to be helpful which is why it's two stars not one. But when I went to pick my car up to take it to another mechanic for a less expensive battery, they charged me $80 for just checking the battery. The man working the counter was not the initial one I spoke to and he raised his voice at me unprovoked when I asked for clarification on the price. Really negative experience. read more

Do not go to this station. For the past 7 years I went here and could rely on clear communication and only necessary repairs based on age of car, condition, and driver habits. This is no longer the case. Poor communication, obfuscation, mendacity marked my last set of repairs. The change of leadership has fundamentally changed the quality of the service. I absolutely cannot recommend this Metro Motors enough! I've brought my car in 6 or 7 times over the last two years for various repairs and replacements and I've been impressed every time. Jack and his team have not only fixed the issues but made sure I fully understood and was comfortable with their work. Everything here gets done promptly and they are completely transparent about what's going on and how long it will take. The prices are always consistent and always fair - they've never once tried to upsell me on things I didn't need or charge me for more than exactly what I was having done. As a woman who frankly knows very little about cars, the honesty and respect they treat me & every other customer with is enough to keep me going back. Previous experience was good, more than happy with service efficient, nice staff, etc. But recent quote of nearly $900 for work I didn't need (when issue was minor and cost $100 to fix elsewhere) has now changed my mind. Last week, I brought my car in for an oil change and was told it was leaking trans fluid. They said they didn't know why but they needed to replace my radiator, at a cost of more than $833. The diagnosis given: it's hard to see but the lines are soaked and radiator wet as well. We had the radiator replaced 15 months ago, so this didn't seem right. He suggested they can go at any time and/or could be defective. I wasn't told that they could get in there and find out it was not the issue, and could be significantly less cost. I was only told that they needed to replace the radiator. Given that it's a lot of money and just before the holidays, I got a second opinion. The verdict: Transmission cooling line was leaking, due to some clamps/caps connecting to radiator and trans needing to be changed. Total cost = $95 before tax. Why is it they could see issue when G-town shell could not? I know this is Georgetown, but I can't help but feel like they were trying to pull one over on me. More than half the cost would have been for labor (for what I am told is a 1-2 hour job at most, they wanted over $400 just for labor - which is VERY high according to other mechanics I checked with) to replace a part that is very new (I only put on about 6K miles/year) -- when it wasn't even the problem. The other mechanic joked that they likely needed money for Christmas presents. I'm now wondering if a past service I had done (at over $500) was really necessary. I will always get a second opinion moving forward anywhere I go -- lesson learned! Overall, very disappointed. This is a local spot, easy for me to get to before/after work. read more

Well, I just paid $140 for that same diagnostic, but perhaps that was sour grapes that I chose to take my car to Auto Tech instead, whose prices are considerably less than what Georgetown She'll was attempting to gouge me for. read more

This place is fantastic. I cannot recommend them enough! Bobby is an absolute godsend. After a three-week saga with a shady, poorly operated auto shop in VA (do not take your car to Sears!), my car was continually purging oil. Nothing was getting better, their communication was garbage, and I was being charged a small fortune. I decided to take it into Georgetown Shell and that's where I met Bobby. Bobby is THE guy to bring your car to. He was friendly, honest, and helped me out same-day. He correctly diagnosed the problem, fixed it within an hour, and charged me half of what the other shop charged. I also loved that he texted me a photo of the problem, then called me to explain what was going on in the photo. This is an honest, clean, efficient shop. Alright, I have to review this place because it honestly has amazing service. I took this car in a few years ago for a dead battery issue. Problem was fixed and they vacuumed your car for you for FREE. Doesn't take much, but it's a nice little touch. Fast forward 1.5 years. For some odd reason, the battery dies so I come back here to get it fixed. They replaced it no questions asked, 100% free. Amazing service. Will do business with them again. read more

Bobby at Georgetown Shell has helped me repair my two cars several times. I first went to Georgetown Shell because the quote was much lower than two other repair shops I visited. The three shops had similar prices for parts and labor, but Bobby did not jam me with needless work like the others tried to. I've compared quotes in this manner several times over the years, Bobby always comes in with a much better quote (sometimes literally thousands of dollars cheaper) and the car runs great afterwards. I once was a big fan of Bobby at Georgetown Shell, as you can find in my previous reviews on yelp. It wasn't until my most recent rip off of a visit that now left me never wanting to return. I had taken my 2007 Volvo in for an oil change and evaluation of check engine light. Bobby told me that they had discovered a few leaks including a coolant leak and oil leak which he claimed was causing the check engine light issue. Upon listing out the repairs for both, I thought I was getting a deal, and of course a thorough repair of my car after the $550 "discounted" service. After picking up my what i thought was my repaired vehicle, the check engine light remained on. I know that Volvos can sometimes have sensor issues, but was still frustrated that i didn't know for sure after just getting my car issues fixed. A few days later, my car completely stopped in gear several times while trying to start it. I was extremely frustrated as I had just paid a lot to fix it with Bobby. thankfully I was able to make it safely to the Volvo dealership, where i bought my car. Upon having them re-evaluate my car, I learned of several failed repairs from Bobby as well as several missed issues causing issues with my car. The coolant leak that Bobby had apparently fixed with a new house, was nothing more than just a garden hose ( The Volvo dealership kept it to show me). I also needed an entire new oil housing gasket after Bobby told me I just needed a few parts. Hey, I am all for trying to cut costs when you can, but if I knew that this meant superficial solutions to a bigger issue, I obviously wouldn't have paid the 500+ to get what I had done with Bobby. He also overlooked that I needed a new battery which attributed to my car stalling. If I take my car to a mechanic, I would hope he is capable of properly diagnosing all related issues potentially wrong with it so I can pay to fix it once right. Not twice the wrong way first. Bobby, I had called you as an upset frustrated customer, and you offered nothing in return to help me.As someone in customer service myself, I would hope you would agree that the customer always comes first. I thought you were a nice guy, but you have left me feeling nothing but taken advantage of. read more

I was very happy to see the Georgetown gas station re opened as a Shell and still had affordable gas. I was even more thrilled after my first encounter with Bobby, the manager and head mechanic. He serviced my girlfriend's Lexus GX 470. He was completely transparent and very informative. He and his crew also did a great job! I was so impressed with Bobby that I took my Rav4 in to see what he had to say about some damage that had been done to it. The first thing he did was a diagnostic free of charge. While it may sound obvious that a simple diagnostic should be free, another shop in town did a diagnostic (after I handed them a diagnostic report I already had) and tried to charge me $100 for it! Bobby went further though and explained to me what was wrong and how much it would be to fix the problem I incurred during a collision. He eventually recommended that I sell it, even though he did not stand to profit at all from that recommendation. I took his advice! He offered to be a source of information for me as I look for another vehicle. I have taken him up on that. Bobby and his crew at Shell are honost, capable, reasonable and everything you could want out of a local mechanic shop. The facility and bathroom is clean and well kept. Bobby will take the time to educate you on your vehicle and your best options while being very respectful and understanding that most of us know very little about our vehicles inner workings. Bobby and crew are trustworthy, fair and highly capable. I recommend them to anyone who needs a good mechanic. P.S. - try to show up around lunch time. Bobby good about sharing his pizza! read more

Blessed with my good ol' Benz E320, I was plagued with several issues: malfunctioning power windows, window wipers, and power seats. With several mechanics and auto shops in the area, I chose Georgetown Shell for its reviews of Yelp. As finding a good mechanic and an auto shop is a rarity and challenge in itself, I was naturally skeptical. But from the time I called Bobby (the owner), to dropping off my car, to receiving an update on the status of repairs, to the final pick up, I received top notch customer service all throughout the way. Mind you, I dropped the car off that afternoon, and was able to pick up that evening. Albeit, when I came to pick up the car, some of the original problems still were existent, but Bobby promptly called over one of his technicians and had him take another look. In a matter of minutes the problems were fixed. Just one testament to the attention they place on customer satisfaction. While other auto body repair shops may be larger and swankier, if that's even possible, Georgetown Shell runs a tight operation with a friendly, knowledgeable, and trustworthy staff. The total cost for my repair was definitely reasonable and fair. Considering other auto body shops in the area charge more for a mere diagnostic assessment, Georgetown Shell is not only a bargain but also a painless transaction without the all too common bad aftertaste of having to shell out a hefty fee at a repair shop. If you don't take my word for it, just check 'em out, you've got nothing to lose, at the least you'll have a nice chat with Bobby about his downright dirty Camaro SS and Challenger, or... the weather! read more

Before heading to work I stopped at Shell for gas, best decision. Bobby came up while I was checking my oil. He was extremely pleasant and asked if I knew they did everything from oil changes to brakes. I showed up a few days later and Bobby did not disappoint me. If you need work done, please visit these guys. No one likes their car in the hands of mechanics but these guys are different. They did not fluff the estimate or sell me something I didn't need. They just did what I asked for. Too many shops get our business and do not deserve it. This shop deserves it! They are knowledgeable, cost effective, and responsive. Good place for a quick oil change and hit the road. Reminder though, the shop schedules their oil change in the MORNING so if you need a oil change go early. When I got there at 7am there was already staff on site ready to help. I did what the previous person posted "ask for Bobby" which I did and he delivered a great customer service. Consistently the cheapest gas in Northwest DC. And it's rarely crowded! Leave yourself some extra time, though, if you are trying to get in or out of this parking lot at rush hour. Making lefts is going to be a challenge, but it's worth it, I assure you! I (stupidly) used to go to the Exxon across the street before I realized that their gas is consistently 40 cents higher per gallon. Which, by the way, is absurd. I put air in my tires here once and couldn't figure out how to use the tire pressure gauge on the hose. The woman who works inside the shop seemed more than happy to help me figure it out, and did so without passing judgment at my lack of practical car knowledge. After reading all of the other reviews for oil changes and other services at this location, I will be sure to come back for that next time my car is due for some lovin'. read more

I had left the previous review as I was on my way to pick up the car. As it turned out, they had done some repairs on it without notifying or asking me. I was surprised to see a bill for $250 for a replaced battery. I spoke with the manager who was also very professional and polite. He offered to put my old battery back in and assured me that it was their normal protocol to call the client first, but that I had somehow not been called because they were so busy. He explained what was wrong in a way that even I could understand. If I needed a new battery then I would have gotten one, I just would have liked to know about it first. In the end, I'm not as impressed as I had been. The people I spoke with were so friendly and professional, though, that I'll probably come back next time I need service. read more

I was blown away by the quality of the service I received here and left feeling overwhelmed with gratitude for Jack Parzow. Jack went above and beyond to help me out. He helped me get a new transmission paid for by a local dealership - making multiple phone calls for me and advocating on my behalf - just so I wouldn't have to foot the nearly $6k bill for the parts & labor myself. After 7 years in DC and a lot of experiences with other car repair places (all average to downright poor), I can definitively say don't bother to take your car anywhere but here- they genuinely care about their customers and just want to do right by people, rather than rip them off. read more

I had the best customer service experience I've ever had at a repair shop here. The lead mechanic, Bobby was extremely friendly and accommodating. I called on a Monday, made an appointment for an estimate the next morning and the parts were ordered and my car was ready the following day. I told him my finances were limited, he did and his estimate was 50% less than 2 other shops where I had taken my car. He told me, "we'll make a list of everything that needs to be done and prioritize each item to make it affordable for you". No mechanic that I've met has ever had this attitude before... I work not too far from the shop and during the estimate, another mechanic actually drove in my car with me so I could discuss the issues/he could hear the issues while I dropped myself at work. They determined what the problems were, ordered the parts and the next morning Bobby arrived a few minutes early at 6:45am and DROVE me in my car to work so I could get there on time! He drove the car back and had all of my issues fixed in 8 hours. Bobby was thorough in his explanation of the issues, direct, extremely flexible, convenient and accommodating. This was truly the best experience I've ever had getting my car fixed, I was shocked! The staff here gets an A+ in customer service. read more

These guys are truly amazing. Bobby and his team are always available for your questions. I consider myself to have intermediate automotive repair knowledge and cannot stand when I feel like I'm "being played" at most shops. Many places work their techs on commission to find other repairs, that obviously is not the case here! Bobby ensures only honest and necessary repairs can be made, and was happy to installs parts when they could not be obtained elsewhere and his price most definitely could not be beat. He's not just looking for a sale, but a longterm relationship. So before you look past this "georgetown" shop for fear of being gouged, know your wasting your money and missing out on a huge asset to the community by driving across the bridge. I brought my car in this morning for an oil change and "trip check" - it's only a year old and has very few miles on it, but I'm going on a roadtrip in a couple of weeks and figured better safe than sorry. I was super nervous going in - auto mechanics in general have a lousy reputation, and I'm not exactly car-savvy - and was worried I was going to be swindled. I couldn't have been more wrong. Bobby changed my oil and filter, did the trip check, and vaccuumed the interior of my car -- all for less than $70! I picked it up after work and it drives like a brand new car. I had the opportunity to work closely with Rob and Bobby these past few weeks. My car started to have electrical issues and did not start. I took my car to them and they worked tirelessly to identify the problem. After a few attempts and fixes, they were unable to find the problem. What I appreciated from Rob, the mechanic, he made sure I understood every thing that was being done to my car. They decided to refund my money after they realized that my car was probably a lost cause. I've never had that experience with any mechanics. I found my car dead on a Georgetown street at about 2pm when I was on my way to an emergency vet appointment for my dog, and within minutes after calling the Georgetown Shell, Jack came with a mobile charger to give the car a jump. We were able to get the car going, and I went to the vet but left the car running. Afterwards, I dropped it off at the station to see if it needed a new battery. They replaced the battery for me but also vacuumed the car and diagnosed another issue (leaky sunroof). I cannot say enough good things about the helpfulness of coming to me right away and the fantastic customer service from all of the employees and the manager. I was a big Bobby fan and have not needed service lately, so I was a little nervous to go there without him but was VERY pleased to have a great experience with Jack and Georgetown Shell. read more

Bobby leads a friendly, professional and honest team that provided both excellent auto service AND excellent customer service. In addition to having my oil changed and tires rotated I asked to have my brakes checked as they have never been serviced. While some shops would have seized on the opportunity, Bobby told me everything looked good and no additional services were needed. They even vacuumed the interior at no extra charge! I love coming here- they are so friendly, quick and professional that I drive across town from NE just for a standard oil change. We took our car here for an oil change and were quoted $80. They called saying we needed additional services and the new total was $150. When we went to pick up the car, we were told it was actually $230 (so 80 plus the 150). When we asked about the difference, Jack (the guy we were working with) didn't apologize about the misunderstanding and was very rude making it entirely our fault. He claimed to have said things over the phone during the adjusted quote that were never said. It probably really was a misunderstanding, but he was just obnoxious how he handled it. We also got to the car and it was unlocked with all the windows down even though the garage was already closed. read more
