I found my car dead on a Georgetown street at about 2pm when I was on my way to an emergency vet appointment for my dog, and within minutes after calling the Georgetown Shell, Jack came with a mobile charger to give the car a jump. We were able to get the car going, and I went to the vet but left the car running. Afterwards, I dropped it off at the station to see if it needed a new battery. They replaced the battery for me but also vacuumed the car and diagnosed another issue (leaky sunroof). I cannot say enough good things about the helpfulness of coming to me right away and the fantastic customer service from all of the employees and the manager. I was a big Bobby fan and have not needed service lately, so I was a little nervous to go there without him but was VERY pleased to have a great experience with Jack and Georgetown Shell. read more

Love this place. Not only is the location extremely convenient, but Bobby and the staff are top notch. They went into great detail about my car's problems and even showed me various part on my car that had wear and tear so that I could see it first hand rather than simply taking some mechanic's word for it and trusting him to be correct. There isnt much more to say about Georgetown Shell than has already been said but I will try. Bobby (and the entire staff) is fantastic. They got a ton of repairs turned around in a day and priced within the estimate provided. I'd highly recommend bringing your car here for regular maintenence or for any big ticket items that need work. I felt their prices were fair and well worth the cost. Georgetown Shell gets 5 stars, however, for the great communication and ability to explain exactly what was wrong with the car and how it was fixed. We took our car here for an oil change and were quoted $80. They called saying we needed additional services and the new total was $150. When we went to pick up the car, we were told it was actually $230 (so 80 plus the 150). When we asked about the difference, Jack (the guy we were working with) didn't apologize about the misunderstanding and was very rude making it entirely our fault. He claimed to have said things over the phone during the adjusted quote that were never said. It probably really was a misunderstanding, but he was just obnoxious how he handled it. My Ford Escape Hybrid desperately needed an oil change and the tires checked and I didn't know where to take it. I've recently moved to DC and envisioned a trip to the burbs to get my car serviced. Bobby and George made my decision easy - I can stay in the district and get great service! I dropped off my car, went to get a bite to eat (at Cafe Bonaparte which I highly recommend as well), and voila! it was done. They found the nail in my tire and plugged it (note: didn't try to sell me a new tire or set of tires), changed the oil and the air filter, all for a reasonable price. Living in downtown and needing a new battery almost proved to be difficult. I was afraid of leaving it for days at a downtown garage.. Afraid of the poor and overpriced service of most area dealerships.. To my surprise, Georgetown Shell has some amazing reviews which led me to call. My call was answered quickly, Bobby took my info and called back within minutes as promised. I took my vehicle in, waited, and couldn't have been more happy with the overall experience. Price was marketable, labor prices were very reasonable... Overall the customer service and straightforwardness of Bobby was perfect. Due to factory recalls and some other non-sense, I have had to have my car towed to them 3 times in the last two weeks and each time have been met with stellar service, timelines and honestly. Even after my car had to be towed to the dealer, Jack called to check in and make sure everything was going ok. You ever heard of a mechanic who calls to check up? My doctor doesn't even do that. I am a transplant from Atlanta and was terrified of finding a new mechanic other than the one my family has been using for decades. I was really excited because this is the only company I have ever seen on yelp to have an even 5 stars. I never thought that such a good, reasonably priced mechanic could exist in Georgetown, I thought I was going to have to go through this whole big ordeal with going out to the suburbs. My biggest complaint about Bobby is that he gets really booked, but that is no surprise given what a great guy he is and how terrible and sketchy most mechanics are. From the second I walked in, Bobby was super nice and accommodating. He clearly knows his stuff and gave me a really thorough explanation of what was happening with my car and even insisted that I come back and take a look because he wanted to make sure that I understood exactly what he was talking about and was making an informed decision about my car. Unlike other mechanics who are usually pushy and find problems with your car just to make more money, Bobby was honest with me, gave me the information and let me make an informed decision about what my options are. Bobby did a great job on my car, it is driving better than it did when I bought it and the price was very reasonable. My only recommendation is to call in advance and make sure that he isn't backed up. read more

A philly native, and even after several years still adjusting to the outrageous price of things in DC. But this place is as good as it gets - they charge exactly what should be charged at a very fare rate. On top of that, they are honest, know what they are doing, and don't try to "pull one over" on you. My wife has had most of the face to face interactions with Bobby and staff, and she reports always feeling respected and impressed with their tolerance with two toddlers running around their front office. I have to confess, I have discovered some amazing places through Yelp over the years, but I seldom have taken the time to write a good review. I put it off for a few days, meaning to do it "when I have time" but then it just doesn't happen. Occasionally though, I'm so impressed by a business that everything else (including sleep) has to be postponed until I post my review. Georgetown Shell's Auto Service is just such a business. I won't bore you with all the details, but the whole experience of having my car repaired there was excellent and far exceeded my expectations. The awesome Service Manager who runs the shop, Bobby, was knowledgable, courteous, friendly, and most importantly honest. He diagnosed my issues thoroughly and was very conscious of ways to keep the repairs within the budget constraints I had expressed. After reviewing the estimate, the job was completed promptly, with a level of professionalism and care that I never could have imagined possible. If you're looking for a local mechanic you can trust, look no further. Bobby certainly knows his stuff, he runs a clean and efficient shop, he listens to your concerns, and he doesn't charge more than he needs to. There are no hidden fees or pressures to have unnecessary work done. His pricing is excellent compared to other DC shops and his invoices are clear and concise. After a routine manufacturer's check-up in the interim, I've been back twice in the past month -- another routine oil change, and an unexpected "low tire pressure reading" (which turned out to be a nail in my tire). If you are a young woman or anyone on a budget in the D.C. area looking to have your car fixed, NEVER GO TO GEORGETOWN SHELL. I went to Georgetown Shell as a result of the great ratings and reviews it received on Yelp. However, I had an experience with their staff that was not only misleading but incredibly disrespectful. They tried to suck me dry of $1,400 more than the cost of their diagnostics and labor. The AC in my car had not been working for a few months, so I made an appt. and took my car in to be fixed. I dropped it off, went to work, and two hours later received a missed call from their garage. I called them back and they informed me that the repairs for the "kit" necessary to fix my broken AC would cost me $1,600. I informed them that there was absolutely no way I could pay for that service at the moment and asked if they had already done it on my car. They said they had not, and that THEY COULD NOT FIX IT IN ANY OTHER WAY. They informed me that since I did not want anything done with my car, I would just have to pay for the diagnostic and labor fee. I picked my car up after work and paid them the $150 or so for their time and energy, which I appreciated but was upset about the cost nonetheless since I still had to deal with the heat. Bobby was not around when I paid, but his attendant told me that because I had already they would probably be able to cut me a deal when I finally had the money to come back and get it fixed, which I appreciated. HOWEVER, WHEN I GOT IN MY CAR THAT SUPPOSEDLY HAD NO WORK DONE ON IT, THE AC WORKED. I adjusted it to numerous different settings thinking it was just a quick moment of coolness but it was not. 3 months later, my AC still works perfectly. They definitely just sprayed Freon into the vent and fixed it instantly and tried to charge me an insane amount because of how little I know about cars. Thank God I didn't pay them the $1,670 they tried to charge me. Moral of the story..... NEVER GO TO GEORGETOWN SHELL. p.s. nobody vacuumed the interior of my car for me for free, FYI. read more

DO NOT GO HERE. After reading the raving reviews, I figured if the repair isn't cheap, at least I know my car will be in good hands. Customer service? Please. I dropped my car off to Bobby and requested that it be ready before I leave for an international trip. The day before I depart, I go to pick up my car. It's after body shop hours, and I notice that the window he replaced now has a DENT in the frame. Knowing it wasn't there before, I wanted to simply TALK to the man that worked on my vehicle. After an array of excuses, he still refused to talk to me. At first, his cashier called him and told him I wanted to speak to him. He said he was driving, yet he managed to talk through his cashier instead of the customer he "so valued" -- even if through some miraculous happening that the dent occurred through no fault of his own, the fact that someone could treat a new customer with such callousness ... I did not have an experience like any of the reviews before me, and I can assure you that my experience was in fact the opposite. read more

I had a very small job: to attach a tow hitch which I'd bought online to a Toyota RAV4. I called and discussed it with Bobby, we scheduled an early appointment for 7am the next day and the job was completed in 30 minutes while I waited. I was charged only for a half hour, not the flat hourly rate that other mechanics quoted. The service station is clean and uncluttered, the waiting area has Keurig coffee on tap and it can't be beat for convenience, being on Wisconsin Avenue at the intersection with Q Street. Chatting with Bobby he told me of his family's lifetime in the industry, servicing everything from Hondas to BMWs, and it shows: there's a real pride in the quality of service and the appearance of the premises. One last nice touch: when I got the car back, even after such a small job, they'd done a courtesy vacuum of the interior. Once my car is out of warranty I'll be back here for service. read more
