The theatre seats are very comfortable. It was simple to go in and buy a ticket. They offer better prices at the theatre than the $2.25 fee from their website. The popcorn and drinks are expensive. I'd bring my own in with me. The time that I went in- there were only 6 people in the entire theatre 9. They have different priced tickets based upon age. Seniors were $10. read more

I don't usually trek out to Middletown to catch a movie, but Metro Movies had the most convenient time for what I wanted to see tonight, so...here I am. As the other most recent review noted, the seats are comfortable indeed, but no, they don't recline -- or at least, not all the way like in some other local theatres. Did that matter, though? Nope. They were comfy enough. No complaints there. ...whoever said the snack prices were reasonable, on the other hand...HA! I know everything is ridiculously expensive nowadays, but even so...$9 for a small popcorn? For perspective, that's nearly the price of the movie ticket itself! Sure, maybe the container's a little bigger than what other local theatres offer, but...$9? I could walk 2 min down the street and get close to a full combo meal at Shah's for that price. I'm not going to hold that against this theatre for more than just one star because this is mostly just a reflection of how inflation has plagued us all and I know there's not much the theatre can do about it, but it had to be noted in the review so nobody reading gets misled to think that this theatre has so much more of a killer deal for concessions than other theatres around. If just catching a good flick is all you care about, you'll be just fine here. read more

Thankful that this theater had a certain movie that I wanted to see as my local theater has limited movie options. This is in a great area in Middletown, so there's lot of places to make a dinner and a movie date! Bathrooms were clean. The seats were the worst part. Not sure if it's me growing old or what, but I rely on theater seats being comfy in order to enjoy my movie theater experience. But, the seats here didn't even recline! And as I tried to get comfy throughout the movie, my chair was disturbingly loud. It has been a while since I have been here. I cannot believe I have not posted a review here yet. This theater always has a great selection of movies and is in a prime location in Middletown so you can grab a nice dinner before or after. The seats are large and comfy. They are not the electric recliners but still a step up from your standard seats. Fairly large and cushy and allow you to sit back a little bit. Standard concessions but all seem to be larger in size than some of the standards. The large popcorn is a huge bucket. Significantly more than the large bags you get at other places. No adult drinks (which I do not hold against them), but self buttering station for your popcorn! Theaters were super clean and movie was a great experience! I have loved my return to watching movies at the theater again. read more

This is another of those wonky theaters that have a unique charm to them that the big, cookie-cutter chain theaters just don't have. The new owners have made an effort to upgrade the facilities by replacing the old seating with new, red-leather chairs that are all the rage these days. These don't have motorized recliners, but they are comfortable nonetheless. The refreshment area is small, but they have all of the necessities to make your movie experience enjoyable- popcorn, candy, nachos, pizza, etc. The staff are pleasant and efficient. If you're looking for an old-time feel, this is the place to go! I very much like this theater! read more

I had mistakenly purchased tickets for the incorrect date for the movie 'Wicked'. I sent an email and the reply I got, stated that I could use the tickets for when I originally intended to go. When we got there, we realized that we did not have the seats we purchased because it was a different day. Joe, a crew member, was incredibly helpful! He immediately spoke with us (even though there a long line) and helped us to get new seats. He even gave us some popcorn on the house because of the inconvenience. I can't say enough about how positive our experience was and how kind, patient and understanding Joe was. He is a great employee and Metro Movies is lucky to have him. read more

Terrible place. Employees seemed stoned. I had one. They just kept looking at me while I was trying to get popcorn saying waffle, waffle, waffle, waffle. Glassy eyed and incoherent. I spoke with Manager. He was of no help and also did not even apologize I would not suggest this place I would stay away I think the employees are on drugs. read more

6 Smashed liquor bottles on the parking lot floor, placed sporadically like the alkie's had a party in the lot. People at the front of the theater entrance doors asking to "use your phone for a second." Bruh. Dirty. The screen looked like it was smeared with Vaseline and old. Pixels were at 100. Sound was muffled. Seats squeaked loud AF and were uncomfortable after 15 min. Website said "recline." If by recline you mean can go back 3" when you lean, yes. Sticky arm rests and cup holders. Ripped seats. Purchased seats and were told "there's no assigned seats." Okay then, why does the website ask you to choose them if people can just sit where ever they want? Makes 0 sense. Trashy. First time here and I wasn't disappointed. We came here after a long night of eating at sushi house and decided to come here when it was pouring outside and didn't know what else to do. Plenty of parking in a large lot. We saw guardians of the galaxy 2 at 10 pm. Ticket was surprisingly cheap, less than $11 I believe for regular adult price. Realized after that there is senior, military and student discount. Even more amazed that the door posted $5 Tuesday's! That's amazing, I must take up on that offer some time. Tuesday Date Nights! We were in theater 11, it was a relatively small theater with smaller screen than ones I'm used to, but that just means we sat closer than we normally would in bigger theaters with larger screens. The theater was clean but staff was okay, minimum wage employees trying to pass time. I would come here again! Nothing to complain about really! read more

Manager, Kelly yelled FU*K YOU and called me names, said, I don't get paid enough to deal with Soccer Moms like you to me after issuing ticket refund after my family waited for almost an hour and moved from one theater with technical difficulties to another without beI got able to play the movie Sing 2 while special needs kids are home on Christmas school break and Kelly, the only staff manager on duty dropped F BOMBS multiple times in front of children of all ages and customers. The seats don't recline and the seats had leftover popcorn and candy that hadn't been cleaned, the heat was off and kicked in after a half hour upon request. Never ever again Metro Movies. Last night we went to the movies and decided to stop by the concession stand. I ordered a large popcorn and two tap waters (we don't drink soda). The order came to ~$30! I challenged this and was told that the tap water was ~$13. I questioned how tap water can be so expensive and was told that I was "paying for the cups". read more

Even though this is a 25 minute drive for me (and I have two movie theaters within a few miles of my house), I'll gladly come here to watch a movie or not at all. This most recent visit has been phenomenal, and I'd like to thank Justin at concessions for that. My boyfriend and I went to see Black Panther and went to get popcorn. I figured I should get a drink as well. Justin took the time to mention that one of the combos the theater has is the popcorn, soda, hotdog/candy one. We all know how expensive theater food is, so telling us about the extra candy or hotdog I could get was awesome (who doesnt like extra food and saving money?). He was really pleasant and didn't make me feel like shit for asking a lot of questions, and even took the time to show me where everything is (bathrooms, butter stations, where my movie was, etc.). He gave excellent customer service, and honestly, it was his kindness that makes me choose this theater over others. ALSO, I think they redid the seats, because they are comfy and cushion-y as hell. Saw Tosca in HD from The Met Live. All seats in the theater were sold and you had to arrive at least 45 minutes before the beginning in order to get a decent seat. We were able to get the last two seats were one was on the aisle which is my preference and had purchased our tickets in advance online. I'm not one to complain... But went here the other day and the line took forever. There was a very long line then 3 workers standing at another register doing absolutely nothing.. You'd think to make the line move a little fast they'd help each other out. Also they use to have 5 dollar movie Tuesday and they got rid of it. Disappointed in that! The staff is friendly and the concession stand is well packed with many different kinds of treats, from popcorn, to candy, to pizza, to french fries, to hamburgers, to ice cream and the soda's and Icees. The theater has new seats with recliners and highback seating which makes it that much more enjoyable to watch a movie, I will be back soon read more

This seemed like a slightly older theatre that could use a little bit of remodeling, but I didn't find anything wrong with this place. I wasn't coming here for fine dining or a massage so I didn't expect a whole lot. The tickets were reasonably priced -- I think we paid $9.75 to watch a movie before 6 pm, the seats were comfortable, and the movie played fine on the screen. The only gripe was that the line to buy tickets may take a little bit longer since there's only one person selling tickets, and then 3 people selling concessions. They might want to even out the number of workers staffed at the ticket window and the concession stand, but I don't think I had to wait more than 2-3 minutes in line. I did come on a weekday at 2 pm, so I could see this getting worse during peak hours. The popcorn was $6.50 for a small, but the small was bigger than what we get for a small in San Francisco, so no complaints there. All in all, a fine bet if you want to watch a movie. I was happy with my experience here -- pretty standard movie theatre. read more

I seriously love this place. They're so laid back & you get such a good deal on movie tickets. I saw a movie on a Friday night for $7. That is literally unheard of. The bathrooms are clean too. The staff was really friendly and all smiles. I don't know what else to say, this was just a really refreshing trip to the movies in comparison to the Bow Tie Cinema incident. First let me say that I have always been glad to have this theater close by, and up until now it has always been more affordable than nicer, more updated theaters. Unfortunately, they just jacked up their prices. No more $5 Tuesday. It also used to be $5.00 for shows before 5 or 6pm. Maybe they're paying for upgrades? Not sure. At any rate, here's the new pricing: Open to 12 noon: Everyone - $5.50 Matinee (before 4pm): Adult - $9.25 Child, Senior, Student - $7.75 Evening (4pm to close): Adult - $10.75 Senior, Student - $9.25 Child - $7.75 Senior: (62 and older) Child: (ages 3-11) At these prices it costs as much as the much newer and shinier Front Street Theaters in Hartford. $9.75 is far too much to pay for a movie at this place. We used to come here on a weekly basis because, despite the lack of frills (dated theaters and decor), a movie is a movie. But the newly raised prices just aren't worth it. We would rather pay an extra dollar and make the drive to north haven cinemark which is brand new and has recliners, or at least the middle ground in Wallingford. Sorry, guys. I always liked the old Destinta for a couple of cogent reasons: they were close, and they were in downtown Middletown. Instead of heading off to one of modernity's ubiquitous retail strips, I could go a relatively short distance (in theory, it's within walking distance of my home) and still be right off Main Street. Those are pluses for me. R/C Metro is the new owner of the theater, and so far I'm pleased. It looks like they're still making the popcorn on site (relatively few theaters do), and the staff remains pleasant and welcoming. It's difficult for me to assess the improvements they've made because several are still under way - for instance, there's no sign with the theater's name up yet. Parking is very convenient, and the seats are comfortable. As the weeks and months go by, and I come here for movies, I'll return to update this review as I notice their changes and improvements - hoping that they're always the same thing. read more

This is a nice theater, and they have very good promotions to draw in customers on slow days of the week. $5 for most movies on Tuesdays and the same price for senior citizens on Wednesdays. Plenty of parking, and in a very convenient area of Middletown. They usually have all of the big name movies playing, but sometimes they might not be showing something that you want to see. It happens. The staff is always very nice to my friends and I. I haven't been to Metro in a number of years and I won't go back. It seems like I'm not alone. I went to a 9:45PM showing on a Saturday and there was no one there (we watched Interstellar on opening weekend) The movie experience was extremely sub-par. Something was wrong with the digital projector which left a mark in the upper right of the screen that looked like bugs crawling around (or heat waves) for the entire movie. Worse though was the sound mix. The dialog was at the right levels, but it was as though the music and effects were cranked up to 150% of that. Anytime music swelled you couldn't hear the dialog, and the louder effects were ear shattering, bordering on painful levels. Metro is the only game in town (literally), but I won't be going back. Berlin is about 10 minutes up Rt 9, and they will be getting all of my business from now on. read more

This movie theater was adorable. Not too cold but still comfortable, clean, the seats were all comfortable. My only complaint was that my seat didn't lean back which made it a little uncomfortable at first but that was just my chair. All in all, the movie, mad max, was amazing and the atmosphere was great. This movie theater has been around for a while now. I remember going here when I was in grade school, feels like forever ago. It only survies because there is no other movie theater within 15 mins. My wife and I went tonight because we didnt feel like driving up to Berlin. 10.50 for adults after 4pm, I believe Tuesdays is 5 bucks all day. The normal pricey soda and popcorn awaits you at the concession stand. They did change the seats from the last time we went years ago, but I think they only put the recliner seats in theater 1. We had theater 9, while the seats were decent, they are definitely not the recliner seats. The screen quality was pretty good, as well as the sound. Overall, I would go back if I had to, but your better off driving the 15 mins to Berlin so you know your going to get recliner seats. read more
