Cari from Metro Realty gets 5 stars. Cari was very friendly, very helpful, and very responsive. She would keep us updated with everything available in our price range and area and once we found a place that we loved but had one minor qualm with, she helped us communicate with the management company, who had no problem immediately taking care of the issue. Before we met Cari, my girlfriend and I were having a miserable time looking for apartments for March. We felt like every realtor we met just wanted to get their hands inside our pockets in the quickest, dirtiest way possible. We experienced bait and switches, getting taken to areas we said we weren't interested in, and just all around rudeness. It was bad. Once we met Cari, we finally felt like we met an actual human and now 6 weeks after we have moved in, we are really happy in our apartment. Whatever you do, do NOT trust these people. Tons of college kids move to Boston looking for their first apartment, and I was one of those kids. Me and three other girls had signed a lease on a beautiful place in the heart of Coolidge Corner with Metro. Little did I know I had just signed myself to a year of hell. First, we start moving in and our realtor had given us the wrong set of keys leaving us outside all night with our stuff on the street. Shortly after that we find out we have a bed bug infestation. So we set up a time for the exterminator to come. If you don't know with bed bugs they bomb your place three times and each time you should have your stuff bagged up a week in advance. The landlord and realtor "forgot" to send me the email with all the instructions on how to get my room ready but sent it to my other roommates. Roommates whom let's just say weren't at all organized. So I find out the night before the guys come and I am not a last minute person. I am a working college student and I don't have time! I also want to have everything perfect for the exterminator so we don't have bed bugs again. The realtor apologizes and promises to email me next time. She never emailed me again. So the bed bug thing was absolutely crazy and then the landlord decides after all this that he wants to make repairs to our apartment. I wasn't opposed but there were construction guys with the keys to our place coming in and out as they pleased. No one gave us dates or times when they would come. They just came and did whatever. That's pretty scary for young women living on their own. I came out of the shower once just as a strange man came in. I asked politely if the realtor and landlord could email me before they let the men in. They said "of course!" they emailed me once I believe to warn me the guys were coming. Never emailed me again, they just let the strange men in again without any warning. Can't get any worse right? Wrong. I was having panic attacks weekly now staying at this place. I wanted out. So I looked for a sub letter but the landlord said he had to ok the person and that my other roommates had to as well. So basically this person had to be perfect or I couldn't get out. I could go on and on about all the other things Metro and the landlord did at 12 Greenway Ct. But I think you get the point. This was one of the worst experiences of my life. I hope this helps at least one college student not have to go through what I went through. Which was being tricked, violated, and disrespected. read more

My future roommate and myself took off time today from work to meet with an agent to tour 3-4 apartments today. Our appointment was for 10:00 am and even though I came from Providence I somehow managed to be on time, but our realtor failed to do so. She emailed us around 10:00 am (time of appointment) saying she needed to push back the appointment to 10:30 am, and since we were excited to see the places, we were totally willing to wait. She did not show up to the North End until 11:30 and informed us that she did not even have the keys to the apartments. GREAT. Ultimately, I drove all the way from Providence, RI for an unprofessional realtor that not only was an hour and a half late, but also couldn't show us any apartments. I would not suggest using this realtor if you're looking to find an apartment. read more

Watch out, these guys can be dishonest. I rented an apartment from them earlier this summer, and it happened to be in a building owned by one of Metro's managers (Adam). I submitted an application, was formally approved, signed the lease, and provided a deposit, which they CASHED. Then after a few days of trying to reach them, the building owner/Metro manager (Adam) called to tell me he had sold the building (conditional on my unit being vacant) and would not be honoring my lease. When I protested saying they had already cashed my deposit and we signed an official lease, he told me that although I had signed the lease, they never did (I presume they just held it so they could back out in case they sold the building). The worst part is that I had a feeling they were going to do this. When Adam the manager called to back out of the lease, he told me the building sale was totally unexpected, otherwise he wouldn't have rented me the unit. But I know for a fact this isn't true because a different rental agent told me a week earlier that the building was owned by his boss (Adam) who was actively trying to sell it, but he assured me that if I was approved for the apartment, the place would be mine regardless of whether it sold (at least for the one-year term of the lease). It's clear now that they were trying to play both hands at once, holding my signed lease (without signing it themselves) so that if the building didn't sell they could rent it to me, and if the building did sell, they could back out of the rental deal. I got a sense they were doing this when I asked repeatedly when they would counter-sign the lease and was told that legally they didn't have to provide the lease to me until 30 days after I move in (which is their standard practice). They did eventually return my deposit and I found an apartment through another rental company. I think this was an unusual circumstance, but it goes to show that when it's a choice between getting paid and doing the right thing, Metro will put themselves first. **The Lesson**: Insist that Metro Realty provide the counter-signed lease ASAP, otherwise they can tell you it's a done deal (and even deposit your checks) but hold the lease unsigned in case their landlord wants to back out. read more

My girlfriend and I reached out to Metro Realty while searching for an apartment in Brookline. Jessica H. took the call and right from the beginning she assured us that she would do everything she could to find us the perfect place. Jessica listened attentively to all of our criteria and took the time to put our minds at ease. We wanted to cast a wide net to ensure we were able to secure a place for September 1st, which meant working with multiple agencies. We looked at a handful of apartments with other companies throughout the spring, but we were continuously brought to places that were completely off the mark. Around the beginning of June, Jessica called us up and told us that she had found the perfect place. Within 48 hours we signed the lease... it was, and is, perfect. Jessica was flexible in showing the apartment on such short notice and then made the signing process very comfortable. My girlfriend and I were always in control during this big step in our lives together, but Jessica was there to guide us through with a smile. Jessica was friendly, accommodating, but above all else, honest. We can't recommend Jessica and Metro Realty enough. Our apartment is everything we had hoped for and more. read more

I've heard good things from people about these guys, however my experience (although not horrible) was just somewhat impolite. I can't remember any names but I when I was looking for a new place this summer I called 2 or 3 people and whenever I spoke to them it always seemed like I was going to get hustled. They were interrupting me when i spoke, told me I had to spend more money or how much "I was willing to part with per month" and just generally were rude. A realtor friend recommended Metro to me, and they took advantage of my trust. Though I was shown an apartment that needed renovation, I was assured the management company would make improvements before moving in. I was told the management company was excellent and that Metro would not work with them if they were difficult. We drew up an offer contingent on certain work being done, and I submitted a check to Metro for "security." As the check only covered "security" and no contract was signed, the apartment was not taken off the market. I was told it was a gesture of good faith. I was told I could walk away from the apartment with my check if the management company did not agree to make improvements. Two hidden fees were introduced as I was writing the check: a "pet fee," a nonrefundable monthly addition to the rent for damage that had yet to occur, and a one-time "key fee." This should have been a warning. I then researched the management company online, and they had terrible reviews stretching back years. Two days later, my security check was deposited - before I had even heard if improvements would be made to the apartment. Then I received a response from the management company, and not only did they not agree to make any improvements, but Metro also agreed no changes needed to be made to the apartment, reversing their position. I notified Metro that I wished to walk away from the apartment with my security deposit, and they claimed no such verbal agreement had ever been made with me. The strategy, obviously, was to secure half the money for the rental by depositing my "security" check, abandon the push for improvements, and then hope I would feel intimidated, bewildered, or desperate enough to sign the lease for the apartment as is and fork over the rest of the cash. After a nasty argument (and the owner is a terrible bully), Metro relented, but it took a week and several follow ups (including written proof from my bank that the check had been cashed by Metro) before my security deposit was returned. I have never encountered such duplicity and intimidation from a realtor, and I have rented apartments for fifteen years in both New York City and Boston. Metro preys on its customers and does not follow standard practices. Do not trust anything they tell you. read more

Well if you can get by this guys rude attitude they might be able to help you out. I was on the phone with whoever answered for about 6 minutes.. He assumed I was a student because I am looking to move in September (which I am not) and I told him right off that 'My problem is I am looking to find an apartment that will be ok with my dog' his response was 'well that cuts your search by about 95%' That was enough of that.. Yes, I will just abandon my dog. Screw this place. I'm now talking to 'Gateway' and they are happy finding me a place that will welcome my dog. I will not name our realtor but I reallllly want to. I know that my boyfriend and I are two twenty one year olds moving to city for the first time, but we're not stupid. She would not stick within our price budget (no higher than $1300 for a STUDIO). We came from Cape Cod and as we were on Storrow Drive, she decides to email us, not even have the courtesy to call us, and tell us the place she was going to show us was already rented out. She then told us she would contact us if anything came up in our price budget and she never did. We found another realtor. read more

The main reason I love Metro Realty is that they have great listings. I no longer live in Boston so this review is long overdue, but when I was looking for my first apartment there 3 years ago, the real estate agent showed me all great places that were a lot more comfortable looking and much cleaner than the gross college studios I'd been shown (you know, the kind with black wood floors and cheap stark white paint that don't color in the lines on the walls). Yuriy, who no longer works there, was very patient and not pushy or shady. My price range was up to 1300/month and I ended up renting a beautiful 750 sq ft 1 bedroom top floor apartment in an elevator building thanks to Metro Realty. After moving a few more times and working with some seriously bad real estate agencies, I definitely would recommend Metro Realty and ONLY Metro Realty to anyone looking. read more

Jessica Hein helped my husband and I look for a place in Cambridge for our relocation from DC. She is one of the nicest, realest people on top of really knowing her stuff as a broker. We had absolutely no idea what we were doing, but Jessica was really good at asking us questions to figure out a good fit for us within our budget. Looking at places with her was great- she had an organized itinerary with notes on move-in concessions from each building and it was actually really laid back and fun. I would not recommend these guys at any cost! They are on the thin line between scammers and real estate agents. I disregarded the negative reviews I found in comparison to the number of positive ones, but I regret that decision now. If you have no choice but to deal with them, then avoid agent Chris Anderson, he went to the extent of lying/hiding information until he put his hands on our deposit, after which his attitude changed as to try to drive us away, new fees came up, apartment restrictions that weren't disclosed, and worst of all he kept threatening on the deposit. So if you go with them, document everything with these people, make sure you get a written statement of all the fees to be paid from your side, restrictions of the apartment and building (if possible look at the lease you'll be signing), any alleged benefits or amenities you'd get, apartment condition, and don't pay a dime until everything is sorted out no matter how many lies they tell you about other people negotiating with them at the moment. read more

After trying to find a place in Brighton we had exhausted pretty much every Realtor. Then, wandering into Brookline one day, we randomly can across Metro. It was the best thing that happened to me! You need to understand that my roommate and I had seen north of 50 apartments that were either disgusting or way overpriced. We walked into Metro knowing that they were mainly Brookline but probably had something in Brighton too. They had two places in our price range and I was quickly bickering with my roommate because we each thought we should take opposing ones. Yes! one shot and we had two perfect apartments! We put in an offer the same day and signed by the end of the week. Ashley, our broker, was nothing but friendly and helpful the entire way. Yes we had to pay a half-fee, but we were so glad to have an real broker with actual listings and not a college student who scours Craig's List for the newest listings. I'm probably going to be moving to Brookline when my lease is up and Metro definitely tops my list of places to start looking. **Update** Just found my second apartment with the wonderful and talented Ashley Moody. Thank God we're finally moving out of Brighton and into Brookline. So not a student anymore. read more

I had a good experience working wtih Margaret Crow. She accommodated my tight schedule to show me apartments in my price range in the area that I wanted. She was able to negotiate with the landlord to have my last month's rent paid in installments instead of up front, so I was better able to afford moving in. So I moved to Boston nearly two years ago. At that time I had a whopping 72 hours to find a place to live before I had to leave. I came across metro realty corp because I was out of options and I needed a place to live ASAP. The first person I worked with was Jessica Hein. At this time I did not understand the Boston real estate marker and she was gracious enough to find me a lovely apartment in Brookline that fit all of my needs (and price range). Low and behold, 1 year later I needed a new place to live as the new management at my apartment inflated the rent to extreme measures. I then returned to Jessica and she did not fail to deliver. She went above and beyond to find me a place in the area I wanted (border of Allston and Brookline) at the price I wanted. I now live in a beautiful one-bedroom. Chris was very accommodating with our time constraints; he found us a lot of good listings over several days and also seemed to know what we were looking for in terms of price and location (especially since my roommate and I weren't together for either of the days). We started our apartment search this summer with a terrible agent at another company (being driven to places where the keys repeatedly didn't work, not in the location we asked for, not available on the move-in date we needed, etc.). Finally we ditched that Realtor and called Metro. By chance, we started working with Cari. After she asked us lots of questions about exactly what we were looking for, she said she had a place in mind that she thought would be perfect for us. Turns out, it was! We saw that one apartment and took it immediately. It was at the top end of our price range and the fee was tough to swallow, but it was worth it after being toyed with by another agency. Plus, the location and size were exactly what we were hoping for. Also, Cari was incredibly helpful even after we signed the lease. She met us at the apartment once so we could take measurements for our furniture since we were moving from out of state and wanted to see what would fit. My only complaint is similar to one that another reviewer made: they wouldn't give us a signed copy of the lease until a few days before we moved in, which complicated my plans to get a MA license and registration as quickly as I wanted to. Unfortunately, as far as I know, Cari just moved and isn't at Metro anymore, but I thought I'd share this good experience anyway. We LOVE our new place. read more

There's a reason Metro Realty has such high ratings. With most realty companies, you call a thousand times and maybe, if you're lucky, someone gets back to you. With Metro Realty, the first time I called, to my amazement I got a real person--the awesome Jason. I was calling about a particular apartment. Jason asked me a couple of questions to get an idea of what I was looking for, and we set up an appointment to see the original apartment. On apartment-viewing day, I stopped by the realty place and Jason mentioned he'd also arranged to see a couple of other apartments, in case the first one didn't work out. (He even gave me a pen and paper to take notes.) Jason knew his stuff about the area (Coolidge Corner, in this case) and the various buildings/companies/landlords around. All the apartments I saw were good options, but it turns out I went with the third one--not the original one I'd called about. It had everything I was looking for, within the price range I'd given. Throughout the rental process, Jason always kept me up-to-date and explained all the paperwork thoroughly. Whenever I stopped by Metro Realty to sign papers or drop off a check, everyone at the office was very professional and helpful. I would recommend Metro Realty 100%. They're professional, reliable, and they really know their properties. read more

USE THESE GUYS! This past June, I had been looking for an apartment for my boyfriend and me for over a month (for a September 1st move) when I found these guys and thanked God. I had been through nearly every realty agency in Boston, Brighton, Allston, Cambridge and Brookline and seen everything from places that were wayyyy out of our price range to dump holes that I could never imagine even stepping foot in again (let alone renting, living, eating and breathing in). I finally came across Metro Realty after inquiring about an add I found on craigslist with some pictures of an apartment that seemed descent. I emailed the realtor about it, Margaret Crow, who asked me a series of questions to which I answered. She honestly answered back that this apartment probably did not fit my needs (based on my responses) but that she would find me a better one. "Yeah right" I thought as I deleted her email. Then on a whim, she called and said she had something that fit my needs perfectly but she didn't have pictures of it. I thought "what the hell, I'll see it" assuming it would be a huge waste of time especially since she did not have pictures but something told me to go. THE PLACE was PERFECT! My boyfriend and I put down first, last and security immediately. Our lease was signed for this September. Margaret and Metro Realty as a whole were very professional and supportive throughout our entire application and lease signing process. However, it wasn't until a month later that I really understood how tremendous this company was, for not only did they have a professional and successful business that they operated with due pride, but they were people of compassion. On the 4th of July weekend, my boyfriend dove into shallow water off a boat in New Hampshire. He suffered a severe spinal chord injury and was diagnosed as a C-4 complete (paralyzed from the shoulders down). He was in the ICU at MGH for weeks and is now in rehab at the Shepherd Center in ATL, Georgia where he will be for months. When I called Margaret, she did not even hesitate to offer me every penny of my boyfriend's and my money back on the apartment. The check came one week later. Margaret and Metro realty is composed of extremely professional, diligent and compassionate people. I highly recommend them to anyone. read more

Maybe it is the people writing negative reviews that are the fake ones! I know I'm not. I've been living now in my apartment that Jon found for me for a few months and still love it. Actually, I should say that I love it even more. Jon really did a great job listening to what I was saying about the apartments we looked at and finding one that had the things I really wanted. I first tried Metro when I decided to look for a place to rent. Although I didn't end up going with them they had very nice places and the rental office was awesome. (I ended up going to some other Rental Agency and worked with your stereotypical "used car salesman - horrible) Two years later, the recession hits and all signs point to "buy a condo". At first, I was looking at places on my own online. I eventually decided to try a realtor. Since I had had such a great experience before, I decided to return here. I ended up working with Sue Carroll. I sent her the list of places I had found online - right off the bat she had excellent comments for each one. We eventually set up a meeting and helped find some really good places as well as working hard so I could meet the (original) first time home buyers credit deadline. She was always honest about each place we saw and never felt any pressure. I was living with my parents at the time specifically so I could wait and find the right place, even if it meant not getting that tax credit (I mean I did have free food, laundry, and $0 rent!). Anyways, after finding the right place, she made the the entire process go painless and quick - we were still shooting for the original tax credit deadline. She made sure everything went well all the way till after I moved in (which was a several weeks after the purchase); also giving me a housewarming gift! Overall, this was a great place. read more

While looking for an apartment in Boston/Brookline we had the fortune of working with KARA at Metro Realty. Since we are relocating to Boston, we were in town only for a few days to apartment hunt. Kara seemed to take this into consideration, along with our other needs, and seemed to work around the clock to help us find the right place. She showed us numerous apartments, listened to our feedback, and was constantly in touch with new options. We never felt pressured by her and felt that the communication was great. Once we found our place, signed the lease, and retuned home, Kara kept working with us on finding a parking spot! She emailed various options and even checked out a spot for us since we were not in town. She emailed us pictures and shared her impressions, all of which helped us make our decision. 'I had a positive experience with metro realty, specifically with their realtor David Gold. He helped me find an apartment I really liked. He is friendly, efficient, professional and patient. David was more than happy to answer all my questions. He showed me apartments that were all within my budget and had everything I wanted. It was easy to contact him via phone and email. I also really liked how David/metro realty didn't pressure me to submit an application, instead encouraged me to wait until I found the perfect apartment. Other realtors have made me feel rushed, that if I didn't submit an application for apartment I would lose it immediately. So I used Metro back in the summer of 2005 but it was great! We had Ashley Moody as our Realtor and seeing another review looks like she's still there. She was wonderful! We looked for literally months for an apartment in Brookline and kept coming up with nothing. After looking at apartment, after apartment, after apartment, after apartment Ashley had 3 places in our price range with everything we needed set up to look at. We liked all 3 better than every other apartment we had looked at! We ended up picking the first apartment we looked at, we were the first people to look at it and signed the lease that day. 3 1/2 years later we still live in that apartment and love it! I do think that Metro tends to get the better listings. You do have to pay a fee, which I was totally against, until our months of searching finding the perfect apartment was worth the fee! read more
