What's nice about this place is not only that AK is a very nice guy, but they have expertise in a variety of vehicles even if it's not European. The waiting room is nice as well with the couch and tv. AK was timely with service and communicative. This is a place I would trust with any type of vehicle. This is my goto place for my BMW. I had them install my coil-overs, replace my door actuator, washer fluid reservoir, throttle actuators. My dad too his honda civic for a blown head gasket. Man they're on top of things here. My dad's old German car has been acting up, so fearing a huge bill from the dealer service center, I trusted a friend's referral in coming here. My communication was with Meagan who calmly asked me detailed questions in diagnosing what repairs are needed. The tricky thing about older vehicles is that they don't electronically tell you what's wrong. She called me later that afternoon to relay the technician's findings. Then, after giving me an estimate, I gave them the go ahead, knowing that we needed this backup car if any family members' car was in the shop. I wanted a cheaper option to service my Mercedes GLK 350. Going to the dealer, the price can arrange from $500-$1000 depending on the type of service and what they find wrong with the vehicle. I was asking around for a place that services Mercedes. My friend recommended Metropolitan Motors. I made my appointment on Monday for a scheduled service on Tuesday. I arrived a bit early expecting to wait. I met Lawton, the owner of Metropolitan Motors and no wait. He was very courteous and professional. He took my information down, asked what time was best for me to pick it up and I was on my way to work. I told him that I needed the car by 2 PM and the car was ready by 1 PM. I would like to preface this by saying that I rarely write reviews, so when I do, they count. I moved to San Francisco 4 years ago from San Diego. For my 1st oil change, I took my Mercedes to the dealership and had sticker shock. The price was so much more expensive than San Diego. For my 2nd service, I did some research and found that Metropolitan Motors had great reviews. For the past 4 years Lawton and his team have serviced my car, replaced brakes, added new tires, replaced my battery, and so much more. They are super professional efficient and affordable. What prompted this review was a recent MAJOR repair. My steering column broke and had to be replaced. Lawton and his team went out of their way and gave me a free loaner car and had my car fixed in about a week. I will never take my car anywhere else for repairs. This auto repair shop is the alternative to a Mercedes dealership. I've been taking my 2 Mercedes here for years since they opened. Lawton comes from working at the SF Mercedes dealership and he is more than capable to handle all the work that dealerships provide and more. He is very knowledgeable and uses factory equipment. Exceptional customer service and attention to detail. Owning a luxury vehicle shouldn't mean you should pay outrageous service rates. If you want to pay out-the-nose for servicing your car, then by all means continue to take your car to the dealership. The rates here are extremely reasonable, service is awesome, and they're quick. The shop is extremely clean too. They're honest and won't try to add additional service or recommendations that you don't need. They've serviced both my 2006 E350 and my 2009 E350. Excellent and clean Mercedes shop. Recently the sunroof on my 1998 E430 had issues opening up. My normal shop (a great one nonetheless) spent a number of hours and couldn't debug the issue. Another Mercedes specialist I called on said I would expect to pay a minimum of $600 to start and should expect a bill of $1,500- $2,000 at the end of the day. I shouldn't feel bad because he said some Mercedes panoramic roof repairs have exceeded $6,000 (Yikes!). In fact, he recommended that I go to the dealer to have it fixed (which would cost much more based on previous experience). Not being deterred, I called a number of sunroof specialists who recommended I call one shop after another. As I made the calls, a European shop (Bay Motors Works) recommended that I call Lawton at Metropolitan Motors, and I'm glad I did. Based on the issue I described on the phone, Lawton was able to determine that I probably needed to have the drive cables replaced. Well, I took the car in later that day, and after looking at the issue Lawton recommended that I come back on a morning to give him time to repair it, which I did a few days later. A few hours after dropping off the car, I got a quote for $327 for everything, which was a great deal. I picked the car up that afternoon and was pleasantly surprised that they also washed the car, like a dealer shop. At the end of the day, I really like Metropolitan Motors because you get friendly, dealer-like treatment (from Claudia manages the front area and a clean, comfortable waiting area), honest service (so critical these days), and reasonable prices. Even having a shop dog (Choi) is a nice plus. I'm definitely coming back, and you should, too. read more

A good friend of mine recommended Metropolitan Motors so I decided to give them a try. As soon as I pulled my car inside, there was a mechanic on stand-by ready to take the vehicle on a test drive to determine the problem. Later on that day I received an email with photographs detailing exactly what the problems were and what it would take to fix them. The total amount was well beyond my budget but Lawton was more than willing to work with me. My car was ready the very next day and they washed it and fixed my turn signal light free of charge. I love that he racked my vechicle and did a full walk around under it. WOW, we were 3 older women caught in the worst rain storm in SF history, on the freeway and our engine is burning-up. As good as it gets, that's Louis and Metropolitan Motors December 24th late afternoon and of course everyone's closing and uninterested in my issue with my Lexus. Engine lights on, running rough, tow truck? parking lot? After 5 shops and no joy, Louie tells me, no problem, drove right in ,had the hood up and testing in minutes, had it diagnosed in 15 and the part ordered in 10. Lets put it this way, 2 1/2 hours the day before Christmas and I was out the door, my SUV running great and the cost, excellent. Excellent friendly honest service! I was very disappointed after a pre-purchase inspection, when I discovered that while the personnel reported the bare observable facts accurately, they failed to provide crucial comments regarding the significance of "excessive rust". Once assured there was no "structural problems" I closed the deal after gaining some minor concessions. I later found out I'd purchased a car with serioius and costly maintenance prospects. I lost thousands on this deal. If I had been alerted that there was a possibility of higher future repair costs, I never would have bought the car. When I asked for some reciprocity from the owner, I got nothing, not even and offer to refund the fee I orginally paid for what I now regard as less than professionial service and conduct. My wife was on a road-trip, and "limped" into the city in her broken cross-over. I found Metropolitan on-line, made a phone-call, and my son dropped the car off near mid-day. Steven and Lawton assessed (our) situation, and agreed to do their best to get the car fixed within an unreasonable time frame, so that my wife (and co.) could continue with their trip as planned.
