Like all businesses and practices, there is always room for improvement. This update is really a 3.5 rating but because good medical professionals like good hairdressers are often hard to find + trust. 4 is more appropriate. Like many reviewers have wrote, the wait times has been increasing this is regardless if you come early, on time, or late. We have all been on occasion done so for any appointments, myself included. However, what is bizarre is sometimes the miscommunications at this office. Don't get me wrong, Dr. Sakhaee is pretty good. But I think and this is just me, if you schedule an appointment with a specific doctor, hygienist or whomever. If that medical professional isn't at the office, wouldn't you give the patient a courtesy heads up? Would you go to a substitute gynecologist if the person you have been going to for years isn't available on the day of your appointment? Would you trust your car to any mechanic? I would argue that the mouth/teeth is one of the most intimate areas where if you do find a doctor and/or hygienist that you have gone to and known for years. You would shutter trusting it to anyone else. And the two other times where I rolled the dice was as expected. Once was with a recent dental graduate (OUCH!) and the other was also less than stellar. My most recent roll of the dice I had to explain that due to previous experiences with poor hygienists, I now have PTSD from it and only book with my hygienist that I trust. I couldn't afford to reschedule so yet again I rolled the dice. This shouldn't be how coming in for teeth cleaning be where you book weeks, months in advance. But the fault here isn't the doctor nor the hygienist who wasn't available at the day of your appointment. The fault here is where the receptionists which seems to change guard every so often for one reason or another fail to let patients know ahead of time. Twice I had to reschedule until I couldn't because like most/all of us. We have work commitments or other commitments that needs attending too. And for that reason, now I'm forced to have to call in before my future appointments just to make sure my hygienist is indeed working that day. A lot of reviewers also mentioned overbooking slots. This happens in any industry including the airline industry. That is purely a business move and I am happy to see this practice thriving. I just feel that improvements should be made accordingly to the influx of more and more business. The waiting area while it is small, it was never meant to fit 15 people. It has always been that size. Though the waiting area may be exasperated by the overbooking of slots. Sometimes that can't be helped and you wouldn't want a lesser experience when you go to the dentist so rushing patients in and out isn't the answer here either not only for safety's sake. For now and for the past few years, I'd say Dr. Sakhaee's practice is still among some of the better ones in Queens and definitely around this neighborhood. Absolutely disgusting experience. This office cares about one thing: money. I paid $6,000 out of pocket for Invisalign. WITHOUT my knowledge or consent, they also billed my insurance $1,500 for what was clearly cosmetic treatment, even though my insurance does not cover cosmetic dental. I was never informed this would happen. That is completely unethical and feels extremely deceptive. Then after I finished my trays, I was told I couldn't move forward with refinements, despite being within the five-year refinement period that was part of my treatment. So after taking my money, they suddenly didn't want to help. This office has zero transparency and zero accountability. Once they get paid, you are no longer a priority. What makes it worse is that I had already seen the negative reviews about how they treat patients and how defensive and dismissive they are in their responses. That should have been my warning sign. I ignored it and gave them a chance, big mistake. I ended up transferring my case elsewhere and, after spending a total of $7,500 there, the new provider treated me with professionalism and integrity and helped me without additional charges. That alone shows the difference in ethics. This office should be ashamed of how they operate. Patients are not walking wallets. Let's face it, many of us get all worried when we need to find a dentist, especially if it's for something more than just a regular teeth cleaning. We hear the horror stories, and there are a lot of bad ones out there. I was one of those people until I found Dr. Artin Sakhaee and Metropolitan Smiles. My husband and I have been going to Dr. Sakhaee for more than three years, and in that time (between the two of us) we have had a few major crisises including needing implants, an impacted tooth, crowns and a cavity or two. I can honestly say I wouldn't trust any other dentist to do any of that. Sakhee and his team are the best of the best. He takes the time to discuss everything with you, explain it in a calm and disarming way, and does it with perfection. The entire team is excellent from the front desk to the technician to the dental hygienists to Sakhee and the other dentists who are there. They are welcoming, engaging, compassionate and make you feel at ease from the moment you arrive to the moment you leave. But it's even more than that. Sakhee is extremely accessible, which is a huge difference with most others. If you have a concern or if there's a problem, you can reach out and he's fast to respond. They also follow up after any procedure and check in with their patients. That kind of care is rare these days; yet, it's just a simple thing to do that goes a long way in making a patient feel they are in good hands. There was a moment many, many months ago when I was very concerned about something and got upset. Instantly, Dr. Sakhee responded, called me and put me at ease. Moreover, he went over and above what most dentists would do to fix the problem. Price wise, Metropolitan Smiles is affordable, reasonable and they often will work with their patients. Three months ago we moved out of the 'hood to Manhattan which is about 30-45 minutes from Sakhee's office. And, there are a thousand dentists in the city, probably some within walking distance. But, we both still make the trek out to Forest Hills for our dental needs because as I stated at the start, I wouldn't trust anyone else, he's that good. I've lived in NYC for 24 years. I've been to many dentists during that time. So I don't say this lightly, or having had only one or two visits or teeth cleanings here. I say this having needed several dental issues and procedures. My first visit and I will not return again . I went there for teeth cleaning and tooth filing, I read the reviews for this place that alerted readers that Dr. Artin Sakhaee who is the head dentist is often missing in action , he lets his technicians take over and really doesn't attend to his patients. Either way I decided to check for myself and it turned out to be true I was not seen by Dr. Sakhaee. His assistant identified herself as a doctor through a face mask and a muffled voice. After my x-rays she proceeded to apply 2 or 3 ridiculous drops of composite resin I suppose of filing however my tooth was left flat with no height around the surface she did a terrible job left it the same way. This place is so dishonest she mentioned seeking approval from my insurance for a dental night guard and said she would contact me to let me know , yet I never heard back from them. Next , came the hygienist she was friendly and quirky but to no use she too was dishonest I asked her about the tooth stain or the possibility of it being a cavity she told me not to worry because she had removed it . When I got home I looked at my tooth and found the same stain she said she had removed ! This establishment pushes unnecessary treatments, constantly insisting on root canals and crowns (fancy pricey porcelain crowns), even when my previous dentists found no issues. Despite experiencing no pain, they insisted I needed these procedures, which I later discovered were unnecessary. 3 root canals and 3 crowns later!! After seeing different dentists, I finally realized I'd been misled. Their relentless promotion of Invisalign was deceptive; they claimed my insurance would cover $2300, but after speaking to my insurance they told me they only cover up to $2000, which means the dentist was making these numbers up just to convince and sell this good "deal" to me. After making a $1000 deposit for Invisalign, they switched me to a cheaper alternative "Clear Correct" without consent. I waited for the trays for weeks and when I called to pick up "Invisalign" trays, I was told that it was not Invisalign. Initially, the dentist persuaded me to get Invisalign, citing the "complexity" of my teeth and estimating a 14-month treatment plan. However, when I received the off-brand "clear correct" by surprise and after speaking up against this, the dentist suddenly claimed my teeth weren't as complex as he previously stated. I was told "your teeth aren't that complex so clear correct would be the better option and it'll save you money" instead of letting me make the decision which was only Invisalign. Mind you after the $2,300 coverage, I would've been paying $3,000+. This change seemed more about making profit selling "Invisalign" saving them money by providing the cheaper off brand and lower quality trays. The office only advertises Invisalign and not a single ad for Clear Correct. I never even heard of that brand. I got my money back thankfully and we burned that bridge. It's disheartening when trust is betrayed for financial gain. Dental practices should prioritize patient well-being over profit margins. I recommend going to people who won't upsell you unnecessary procedures and to protect your teeth while you still can or end up with a mouth full of crowns you never needed. read more

The office staff are terrible and unorganized. When I initially started going 2 yrs ago . For my first visit I was told I need laser gum surgery and it wasn't covered by my insurance and the out of pocket cost I could not afford at that time . So I said I would do it at a later time . I asked are they going to at least do the cleaning I was told no it wouldn't help ! They charged my insurance for a cleaning I never had . I had to make many calls and phone tag with the office manager to finally get the cleaning they charged my insurance for . Fast forward to a year later I have different insurance,call to see if they take it and I have the laser surgery that they inform I have to pay up front for . When I see the claim on my insurance, they are in fact out of network . So they lied . I make an appointment for July 2024 to have a cleaning , wait about three weeks for an appointment to be called the day before and told the dental hygienist had a family emergency ok things happen. They can't give me an appointment till September ! I wait all this time for an appointment to receive a text saying something is wrong with my insurance, than a text right after saying disregard. The day before my appointment I get a call from a girl who might be new because she wasn't certain in anything she said . She informs me I'm not due for a cleaning till after 9/25 , even though I have not had one with this new insurance and that I would have to pay out of pocket . So I said cancel my appointment. Dr. Artin Sakhaee hands down is the WORST dentist I have ever had the misfortune to visit. I have a 1" cut in my upper lip and a 1/2' cut on my bottom lip. He cut it with the drill. I didn't feel it because my mouth was numb. When I went to the bathroom I saw it. I went immediately up to the receptionist and showed her my lip and she just looked at me as if I was bothering her and proceeded to take a call. When she was done she asked me if I wanted to speak to the manager. I showed my lip to her and she stood there like she was not sure what to do then when went to speak with the dentist. I waited for him to finish with the patient. He apologized and then tried to blame me saying "I moved." I strongly disputes his assertion. I stated, "I didn't move you were rushing because the receptionist kept coming in and telling you that patients were complaining that they were going to leave." He was in the middle of filling my teeth and he left me there to go take care of another patient. I had an 11am appointment I didn't leave there until 2:30 pm. I will be filing a complaint with the New York State Office of Professional Discipline (OPD). This conducted is not acceptable. The three filling he did are poorly done, it's rough and the edges are sharp and I'm quite certain that he didn't properly fill one of the tooth because it fell very sensitive. A coworker of mine recommended this place when I told her I was looking for a new dentist. I've had terrible experiences in the past mostly with the very first dentist I had as a kid who for over a decade told my mom everything was fine when indeed I had cavities all over my mouth forming. It wasnt until it was time to visit her dentist when she found out this man had lied for years because they had discovered about 12 cavities. Fast forward to now and it's been a hit or miss with dental appointments. Either the billing girl is sending $3K bills with services never provided or the dentist is taking a million xrays and is about to send me home without explaining a single thing about what the photos show. I thought I had finally found the right place since it was a personal recco this time but I was wrong. The girls who did my xrays and cleaning were so warm. The tvs featuring aerial views of coastal cities was a nice touch. But when it was time for the dentist to come in and take a look at my xrays, as soon as he entered the room every alarm in my body went off. His energy was completely off. He coldly introduced himself. It was clear he didn't even want to be there. He wasn't friendly at all. He looked at X-rays of my bottom teeth and I explained my concern to him. Then he proceeded to get the spiky hook all dentists come at you with and proceeds to poke my top teeth lmao. I correct him and ask another question. He then comes back at me with the hook and I ask him please not to poke the tooth with it. No response, dead silence and he goes in with it anyway. That was probably the most terrifying part of my appointment. Because I genuinely felt like this man did not give a sh*t about me or his job as a whole. I should have asked to be paired specifically with Dr Sakahee since he is my recco's dentist but I didn't realize there were multiple dentists working there. (There are no meet the team intros on the website lol) Overall, this man is everything that's wrong with dentistry and an embodiment of a huge part of the reason people do not want to visit these practices. Essentially you are the mercy of people who can do very serious harm to your teeth, which can severely impact your overall health and it is absolutely terrifying that anyone like this completely lacking in bedside manner and positive energy overall would be sent it to "care" or feign "care" for anyone. I am not likely to book another appointment here unless I can be guaranteed they will keep this man far away from me forever. I believe there are another couple reviews pointing out this man's unsavory demeanor, presence and attitude. Let's be honest, nobody is ever thrilled to go to the Dentist... but Dr. Sakhaee has put all of my fears to rest! Dr. Sakhaee's Practice is super clean, hygienic, Instruments all seem to be properly sterilized, OSHA/HIPPA Compliance's, certified staff and they even have Netflix! He's easy to talk to, attentive to detail, understanding and very accommodating. What I like about his Practice is that I rarely have to wait, they respect each patient's allotted time for each appointment. Also, even though he's not a Pediatric Dentist, he still sees children. He's been my (now 4 years old) son's dentist for almost two years now and from the very first day he's been patient with him and gentle. My son enjoys going to the dentist, which I've hardly ever encountered with any other child! Wether it's for himself or to accompany me to my appointment, they always do their best to accommodate him in the same Exam Room with me and even ask him what Cartoon he'd like to watch on Netflix! Dr. Sakhaee also has a spectacular Hygienist staff. So gentle and thorough, you can't even tell you're having a Cleaning done. Besides our Recall visits, thus far I've had Root Canals, Posts & Crowns done by Dr. Sakhaee. He's also been helping me with my TMJ issues which were causing me Chronic Migraines. He started me off with a Night-Guard and to my pleasant surprise- it started working faster than I thought. In about two months my migraines significantly diminished. Dr. Sakhaee is also working on a denture for my mom and I'm sure it won't be anything less than perfect. I've referred my family to this Practice, as well as my friends and co-workers! Yes, the waiting room is a bit small, but the wait is never longer than a couple of minutes and it's well worth it. Give them a visit, you won't be disappointed! read more

This office is friendly and professional. I live an hour away but I always make the time to travel here because of the great experience. The doctors are thorough and patient in their explanations. The staff is very helpful and kind. The space is neat and clean. The wait time is not excessive--I've waited 20 minutes max to be called in. Zina, the dental hygienist, is fantastic. I always ask whether she's in when I make an appointment. She's welcoming, kind, and took special note of my teeth sensitivity (pain from cold and high pressure liquids). Zina uses metal instruments instead of the water tool to clean my teeth. It's changed my entire experience from dreading cleanings to having a comfortable experience! If I would have known an alternative cleaning method was available-- I would have asked for it sooner! But I greatly appreciate the attention to detail that was taken in this office. One of the best parts of visiting his practice is his lovely, always-smiling staff. If I could, I would leave zero stars for this place I would. I do not understand how this place has 5 stars. It is very misleading to people who are looking to get great dental attention. I myself was mislead by the good reviews and close proximity to where I live. At the beginning, the dentist appeared to be doing their job and I had no complaints. However, this year in July, when I went to get my dental checkup and cleaning, I found out I needed a root canal. Besides that however, there was nothing wrong with my teeth. Or so they said. When I moved in August, I went to another dentist to confirm I needed a root canal. Here they also found out I had 2 cavities that had been left untreated at Metropolitan Smiles. While I can blame it on myself that I didn't take care of my teeth in the span of a month, this is not true. After finding out I had a root canal in July, I made sure to take extra care of my teeth by buying an electric toothbrush and brushing and flossing 3 times a day. It is impossible for a cavities to appear in such a short time especially when extra care is taken. After all, cavities take weeks to years to form. This means that this dentist saw my cavities and did nothing. I'm starting to wonder if the reason for my root canal is also because they did nothing earlier. Don't trust this dentist. Similar stuff happened to my mother who went here. When she went for a cleanup, they told her she needed to change her root canal crown because they were damaged. However, she felt unsure with this diagnosis and went to another dentist for a second opinion. It turns out that the teeth didn't need a crown change but that they needed to be removed completely. They were broken. However, Metropolitan Smiles never said the teeth needed to be removed. They just needed crown changes. These are only two cases. Who knows how many more have been left unwritten. Once again, do not trust this place. Find a better dentist. read more

The waiting time is unacceptable. The shortest wait time I've experienced was two hours and I've waited as long as four hours. On time to each appointment showing up 15-30 minutes before the appointment time. On two occasions I had a confirmed appointment to arrive and be told my appointment was canceled. There's a lack of seats in the waiting room and patients are constantly having to stand and wait. They are always over booked and the appointments for dental work you need to wait more than an month. TRY ANOTHER OFFICE AND HERES WHY: Came here a handful of times and to be honest finding a quality, thorough dentist who listens and has excellent dental care is hard to find.So when i came to this office first impressions were great they corrected my issue but then when I came back again, Dr. Sahkae was not thorough and his staff contradicted what he suggested I had which brings confusion and a lack of confidence in the staff in solving the issue. They took several X rays and failed to tell me what I may or may not have that is causing some of the issues experiencing. I just moved here last week and cracked my tooth. Found this office on Yelp. The front desk is very friendly, the doctor is super nice. I have had nothing but bad experiences at the dentist, my last root canal was very painful. I explained this to the dentist and he said not to worry it wouldn't hurt. Still didnt believe him .
