I have been coming here for years. The food is sooooo good. I definitely have tried just about everything. Great location. It is clean and well maintained. Normally the service is outstanding, but I came in on Saturday. We were seated right away. The issue was our waitress listened to the conversation I was having with family I hadn't seen in 6 years. She constantly butted into our conversation and complained about our president, and we were not talking about politics. It was irritating and unprofessional. Fantastic all the way around from top to bottom! Absolutely love this place every time we eat here. Atmosphere is great too! We all ordered steak and they were cooked absolutely perfect and tender. The only thing I could fault was the baked potato could have been hotter. Two of us ordered the bacon spinach salad with our steaks, which is always our favorite because the dressing is warm. We ate later in the evening and ordered Coffee. Our waitress was great and brewed us a fresh pot. Our waitress, Molly, was excellent and very attentive. Molly deserves more then 5 stars! A local favorite. " Little steakhouse across from the Big house" is there coined slogan. Always consistent food with fast and friendly delivery. I've never had a steak here so I can speak to that but for lunch my favorites are Metro chicken club , Mediterranean salad, patty melt and spinach salad with warm bacon dressing. We've been to the Metropolitan several times, the little steak house next to the big house is a fantastic slogan and brings a bit of a smile every time. Their appetizers are solid, onion rings, fried pickles, mushrooms, and mozzarella sticks are among some of our favorites. We've had the filet mignon, the KC Strip, grilled cheese, BLTs, steak salad, and quite a few items off of their menu as time has gone on. Last night we went a bit lighter and had patty melt, steak salad, french onion soup and appetizers. The service is high quality and the layout is designed to remind you of really classic 1950s/1960s style look and feel and it works for me. First time eating from this restaurant. I did a pick up order. It was ready in 20 mins like they said. We ordered the HICO burger, Cheesy chicken bake and the Metro chicken club. Upon arrival there was a kind waitress holding the door open for people going into the restaurant. The place is well kept and lit, clean, employees work fast and are friendly. All 3 I ordered were delicious! I loved the HICO burger, it was surprisingly tasty. My husband also enjoyed the cheesy chicken bake and the metro chicken club. Typical Friday night at ye old Metropolitan Steakhouse, busy as busy can get. Here is the deal folks, just know this place is hopping like a rabbit on speed on Friday nights. We made it in right before the rush, ordered, and then waited what felt like forever, but was reasonably 20 minutes. Food was presented hot and delicious. Pork Tenderloin sandwich was exceptionally good. Service was good but not exceptional as out waitress was covering far to many tables at the same time. I know she was good, but you can only stretch yourself so far. It felt as though she was covering the whole place, at least the main room. Living in Phoenix is tough if you like really good midwest/southern fried chicken. Going out to visit my uncle gives me the opprotunity to get my fried chicken fix on though, so when I was visiting him last week and he took me to the Metropolitan Steakhouse I couldn't have been happier! It was lunch time, so I had the fried chicken and the peaches and cream corn on the cob. Both were wonderful, and it makes me so sad to think it's going to be another year before I can get out there to visit them again. I wonder if they deliver. On a side note; Leavenworth (the actual prison) is directly across the street. I imagine the prisoners in the prison yard smelling the fried chicken or steak when the wind is blowing just right and can only sympathize with any escape attempts. It would be easy to catch me if I was an escaped prisoner from there; you could find me across the street ordering dinner! read more

Of the four of us, their were two fried pork tenderloin sandwich on a brioche bun, one chicken breast and one catfish dinner, all with fries. I replaced my coleslaw for green beans. The fries were excellent. Fresh and hot. The sandwiches were excellent. The pork tenderloin was bigger than the space of the bun the captain was large and was accompanied by 1 butter slice toast and fresh green lettuce. I've given the Metropolitan a few tries now, mostly because other area folks seem to like it, but I've got to be honest and admit I've been disappointed each time. I've always experienced friendly service, but the food is my major issue with this place. After 4-5 visits and trying the burgers, salads, fish, and multiple appetizers, I've come to believe the kitchen doesn't season anything (which is the least they could do, since I'm pretty sure everything is frozen food, anyways). The proteins are never seasoned, neither is the batter that the fish and appetizers are fried in. Everything is excessively greasy, and then served on a leaf of lettuce that (I'm assuming) is supposed to be decorative. What really happens is you end up with a soggy, greasy piece of lettuce that all your food sits in. The salads are poorly chopped iceberg with little toppings or taste. The last salad I ate there was full of large pieces of lettuce head that hadn't been chopped. The only positive I can offer is that the serving sizes are large. This place has a great location and is close to home, so I really wish I could like it - but I just can't. The Metropolitan is good for a mediocre burger and fries at about the $9 mark, but as far as I've found, that's about it. read more

We came here as we were in Leavenworth overnight and the reviews were good. Plus, who doesn't love a good steak? When in the Midwest, you get steak and/or bbq. We pulled up (as promised across from the prison) and I almost thought were were in the wrong place, but I also realized we were in Leavenworth, Kansas. It's a cute little place, but I think my mind had a different idea when I hear the word "steakhouse" especially given the prices on the menu. We went in and the staff were nice; we were sat quickly. We changed our minds on the steaks fairly quickly, but we were hungry so decided to order something. We got mozzarella sticks, chicken fried steak, and chicken fried chicken with sides. The mozzarella sticks were yummy and the other things were okay. Not bad, not great. The service was good and we did get to-go drinks. The salad is iceberg pre-mix with whole cherry tomatoes, and diced cucumbers and pretty sure bagged croutons that they prepare and put it in the refrigerator for easy expediting. The cheese sticks are standard fare and we're favorite thing to eat besides the green beans, which were delicious and rivaled Texas Roadhouse--put some bacon and onions in anything and you elevate the flavor. The mashed potatoes may also be pre-set on a plate unless I got a plate that was under the heat lamp for a while because the bottom of the mashed potatoes had a crust/film. The seasoned French fries were also marginal. Popeyes and checkers are better. And the steak...it was pretty with the grid lines. It had a nice personality. "Little steak house across from the big house" Metropolitan Steakhouse in Leavenworth, Kansas is at 1501 Metropolitan Ave ... literally just down and across the street from the famous U.S. Penitentiary at 1300 Metropolitan Ave. It's a good choice for a family outing with menu options for just about everyone. In search of "anything" for dinner, I joined a large family outing at Metropolitan Steakhouse with relatives I rarely see. Going in, my hopes of eating a great steak were much higher than of meeting a great uncle with a sane political take. Meatloaf may do anything for love, but I'd do anything for a great steak. This includes listening to others and stories from my past that might even be true. Sadly, at the end of the night I had a greater appreciation for my family than I did of Metropolitan Steakhouse's steaks. I prefer my steaks medium rare and juicy as a summer peach. The Rib Eye Metropolitan Steakhouse served was neither of those things. It was reasonably priced at less than $25 so I guess you do get what you pay for in life ... I just wish I'd gotten what I ordered. My favorite part of the meal was probably a couple beers from nearby Weston (Mo) Brewing Company: Rip Van Winkle Bock and O'Malley's Irish Style Bitter (ISB).
