The Windows: Metropolitan sells windows from Marvin Windows and Doors. Marvin specializes in windows fabricated of fiberglass. Replacement windows are commonly built of wood (tend to rot), aluminum (strong, but lose heat), vinyl (tend to warp), and fiberglass. Fiberglass windows are more expensive, but are considered by many to be the best quality replacement windows available. Our house had ten original steel casement windows and two oversized wood casement windows. We purchased fifteen Marvin Infinity fiberglass windows (three doubles); thirteen of which we purchased as double hung and two we purchased as gliders. Marvin also offers single hung, casements, awnings, and hopper type windows. The Metropolitan Windows Company: Metropolitan is owned by the Schmotzer Family and has been in business since 1978. Family members include Dad John, Mom Maggie and Son Justin. Justin does the sales calls, John takes the measurements, and Maggie keeps things organized. We sent an e-mail to the four companies we were considering for the job. Maggie called the day we sent the e-mail and scheduled the sales call for three days later. No other company responded so quickly. Justin arrived exactly on time, spent a lot of time checking the job over, and provided a fixed bid before he left. He answered all our questions, knew and understood the product line, and even had a display model to show us how the double hung windows work. We decided on Metropolitan and the Marvin Infinity line and signed the contract. Note that Metropolitan only requires a portion of the payment upfront. The final, and larger, portion is due upon completion of the work. John made an appointment a few days after we signed to take measurements. Since our existing windows were so old, installing the new windows was not simple. John spent time with us to explain our installation options. One of our major concerns was the sills as our old windows had wide marble sills which were perfect for potted plants. John designed composite sills nearly as wide and able to support the plants. Maggie was responsible for making and coordinating the appointments, placing the order with Marvin and keeping us informed of the order status. We were told it would take between seven and eight weeks to build all of the windows and schedule the installation. Note that they beat this estimate by two weeks; they were on-site and installing in five weeks. The Installation: Maggie called and scheduled the installation and told us they would supply two crews so the job could be completed in one day and that we should expect the men to arrive between 8:00am and 8:30am. Two Metropolitan trucks with four men arrived at 8:00am, with all the windows and all the equipment and tools and materials needed to perform the work. We did a walk through with the team leader just to look at the windows that were to be replaced. Leader Sean was well informed about the job and was ready to start. The crews worked until 5:30pm with only a short break for lunch. They did not leave the site until all of the work was completed. They laid down drop cloths on the floors and all nearby furniture and removed each old window. They then placed and anchored each new window, foamed each in place to assure a leak-free installation, installed trim strips, sills, mouldings, etc., all as required to complete each installation. Then they removed the adhesive labels, cleaned the panes, then pulled up the drop cloths, and vacuumed everywhere. When Metropolitan's crews left, our house was cleaner than it was when they arrived! And, Sean ran a little training course to show us how the windows work, how the panes are flipped for cleaning, and how the screens are installed. So how do the windows look? They look Great! The Marvin windows are obviously best quality, and Metropolitan's work was just wonderful. I would not hesitate to contract with them again, or to recommend them to others. read more

After receiving quotes, I chose Metropolitan Window Company over two other well-known and reputable replacement window companies in the Pittsburgh area, and I couldn't be happier with my decision! From the initial call from Maggie to schedule the sales consultant appointment to the days of installation, I was treated respectfully, professionally and as though I were a "regular" consumer who had been doing business with them for years. On 10/24/22, I placed my order for 15 replacement windows and was told it could take up to 6 months for installation. I have to admit, I was a little disappointed, but glad to know I wasn't getting your average, pre-fabricated product, but rather built to order replacement windows made from durable fiberglass. I received a call on 1/24/23, stating my windows were arriving and ready to be installed that week. The 3 installers arrived to my home at 8:00am on Friday, 1/27/23, laid protective coverings on the floors and any furniture in the vicinity of the windows then proceeded to remove and replace the windows room by room. They were very professional, personable and respectful of me, my home, and my cats. It ended up being a day and a half job, but everything turned out awesome! We needed a new front door and surrounding frame, as well as a new door for our basement entrance. Our home is a 1950s home that was not built entirely level, nor was the door a standard size. We had big-name companies even tell us that a door could not be made for our basement. But Metropolitan was able to figure out how to order a door and create a new frame so that the door would hang straight on a crooked house! Trust me- we went from on of the ugliest doors to a beautiful, high quality basement door. When I can home from work on the day my front door was installed, I actually cried because it looked so nice. If a door can make me cry, it must be top-notch! Lol! We got many estimates for our project, but none was as thorough as Metropolitan's. The other companies seemed like we had an allotted slot and were being rushed along so that they could make their next appointment. Every detail of the process was explained to us. Honesty is high on their list. We were even told "We probably are not going to be your cheapest estimate, because we do not cut corners.". From being welcomed and answering questions in the showroom, through the final steps for payment, the team at Metropolitan is as professional and trustworthy as you could ask for. End-to-End one of the best home renovation experiences I've had. Like everyone in Covid times, we're doing as much upgrading to the house as we can. Our house is over one hundred years old and we still had about eight original windows remaining that looked horrible and either could barely open or needed to be propped open with a dowel or piece of lumber. Called around for quotes, got one that we thought was reasonable from MWC and put in an order. They warned us that because everyone is doing home reno now it might take a while for your windows to come in. It did take a few months but they came in exactly when they said they would. A few days later, the install began. Guys called me the day before to schedule, showed up right on time, got to work immediately, and were done in a few hours with surprisingly little noise. They were friendly and professional. The windows look amazing, and they block out noise that our ancient older windows didn't even touch; I assume also means they're going to save us a fortune on heating/cooling. A wonderful experience! I needed a new front window since mine was leaking, and old!! I don't live far from Metropolitan, so I stopped in, one day, after talking with Maggie on the phone. Carolyn explained the next steps, and we made an appointment for her to visit and get preliminary measurements. Matt came over a week or so later, and let me know when to expect the window. I was a little skeptical when he said it probably wouldn't come in for 3-4 months, but due to Covid, I understood, and needed to wait. It was worth it! Paul and his team arrived with the window and did an excellent job installing. We are first time customers of Metropolitan Window Company, and I am just so pleased with their service and product. First they came in and laid down dropcloths! Perfect, as I was worried about our brand new carpet getting dirty. The two man crew was very polite and respectful and professional. Answered all our questions, and kept us posted on progress. They took their time and did it right. Excellent job!! They did a great job cleaning up, left no mess. Even took a blind we forgot to take down and wanted thrown away. Metropolitan did an excellent job on rendering services of the top quality and beautiful fiberglass windows I purchased from the salesman Matt, the measurer-owner John, phone answering Maggie and the installers Jim's team. Jim's team worked very fast, clean and professional on the day it was predicted to snow 2 to 4 inches but 9.5 inches fell. Yes, pandemic 2020! I expected something to go awry with the project but only the weather was bad. The guys had 14 windows in fast and the house was warm and we were all happy. They installed in early February on a nice winter day and they were done in one day. The windows are expensive but the quality is excellent and worth every penny. We had our second set of windows installed by Metropolitan around the end of July. It was another large job that was done extremely well. Jim and his crew had 3 very large windows installed in a little over 4 hours. Not only did they do an expert install but they cleaned up with almost no trace of debris left behind. The icing on the cake was that they gave us a hand to rehang two very heavy blinds over the 2 largest windows and gave my wife and I a chance to get a head start in getting the room back to normal.
