Hostess was friendly and seated us right away. Server was very helpful and explained any questions we had. When asked about the mole sauce, he brought some out for us to taste. Hubby and I went to Metzli today for lunch when we were in Richland for appointments, and it was absolutely a highlight! It had only been open a month (opened approximately mid-July 2026) and we were so impressed with how seamlessly everything was. We walked in, were immediately greeted, seated and had water, drinks, chips and salsa plus an offer of table side guacamole within two minutes. And what I appreciated was that there was zero pressure or sad face that we didn't opt for the guacamole. Just a lovely smile and no problem. Our food and drinks were delicious and came so fast, our server took care with my allergies and made sure that everything was gluten and dairy free and we were able to have a wonderful meal, without any rush and we now know where we are eating anytime we need to go to the Tri-Cities!! We got to try Metztli Cocina shortly after they opened and are eager to go back for more yumminess! One of the owners, Señor Luna, filled us in that Metztli is pronounced: "Mets-lee", meaning "moon" in the Nahuatl language. Not only is it a nod to the state of Puebla, MX, where he is from, it's also a clever way to tie his own name into the restaurant -- as Luna also means "Moon"! The Mahi Tacos were fresh & scrumptious, as were our other orders at the table. We thought we might have leftovers, but everything was so delicious that we ended up gobbling up every bite! This is as about as authentic as it gets!! Tableside guacamole, fantastic drinks list and amazing real Mexican food. I had the Metzli bowl with Birria and it didn't miss at all. Plantains, pickled red onions black beans and rice. $18 was a bargain. My nephew scored with the enchiladas that looked spectacular. The owner, from central Mexico who is now an American citizen sat with us for a spell and told us his story, the American dream really. Start a business, offer a good product. Great new spot! Ignore the naysayers-- this is a brand new, non-chain restaurant trying to make it in a town where people don't appreciate good food and unique flavors. I go into a new place like this on purpose to support -- it's a lot of investment! My family of 4 enjoyed every bite. The Metzli bowl was our favorite - authentic flavors, perfectly cooked chicken, ample portion (especially of protein which is often lacking elsewhere). The rice and beans were a delicious accent like they should be, not poured like the plate was a trough and where I could recognize the cilantro in the rice and that the beans were actually beans! The plantain was cooked perfectly and guac was so good we will have to splurge to have it made tableside next time. Chips and salsa were fresh and complimentary. Mild salsa is a perfect compliment to the flavors in the dishes. Hubby enjoyed the chicken enchiladas, but wasn't expecting a sweeter sauce (that's his fault not that of Metzli). We enjoyed it so much I stopped in today to get gift cards for a couple friends, unfortunately they aren't able to offer those yet. Highly recommend you give this place a try though- just don't expect it to be your typical Mexican food. This is region-specific so be open minded and expect an adventure for your palate! As for comments about expensive cocktails... if you want someone else to make you a drink, enjoy that someone else made you a drink. Maybe try something new that you can't make at home. My guess is drink prices are up to help offset the cost of this new business. The best profit is in drinks and they need to pay the lease. First time at this new restaurant. We were thrilled to be able to take our small 7lb puppy out on the patio to dine with us. Double thrilled to be able to find gluten free, vegetarian (I eat fish) options. Service was great, portions were VERY generous, everything very tasty. Extremely overpriced especially the drinks (sangria was $24). Ordered the house margarita without a trace of tequila, no lime just mix and a glass full of mixer barely any salt. Ceviche wasn't authentic used precooked shrimp. My friend's lunch was dismal, beans and rice and a fried tortilla with shredded chicken. Complementary chips were fresh and salsa tasty but super mild. They've only been open 1 month now and we've been there twice. First time just the wife and I went. We had the table side made guacamole and it was excellent. Their salsa is very good too. We each ordered a margarita and they were very good. Plus we ordered the pork carnitas. Waitress warned us on the plate being hot, which it was. Food on the plate was only warm though. Carnitas were made of lean pork and were still pretty good. The Spanish rice and refried beans were only average. We went back on a Thursday evening with another couple and they were very busy, but found us a table for 5. This time we had the table side guacamole again and again, it was excellent. Plus margaritas which were excellent again. Chips and salsa were great too. This time we split an order of steak and chicken fajitas and we thought they were very good. Lots of both lean, tender steak and tender chicken. Once again we felt the rice and refied beans were only average. But very good service both visits and even though they were very busy on a Thursday, the food came out quickly. I highly recommend this restaurant! read more
