I have yet to call and place an order or even place an order in person and have them get it right. Infuriating. I know the owner is busy and she was thinking about picking up her kids from the bus station because she ran out to do to the bus to get her children. I ordered rice and beans and only got white rice which I corrected at the restaurant. Then I noticed there was no guacamole when I got home. This type of thing has happened so many times I've lost track and my husband says we should never order from them again. I don't understand my receipt not itemized total on it and I paid with a credit card . What is going on? I'm a bit baffled by some of these reviews. We live in the area and eat here frequently, and have never had any complaints. The food is fresh and tasty (the signature salsa in particular is a yummy, smokey sauce and the soups are very flavorful), and the woman who runs the place is always friendly and pleasant. I would not call the portions small at all - they are not hugely overwhelming like if you go to Chipotle , but they are more than enough to fill an adult. I really don't enjoy giving bad reviews especially to mom and pop restaurants like this one. I wish they were better but they just aren't. I ordered 2 chicken quesadillas and yuca fries. One Fresca Salsa and one super spicy one (to them it was spicy). Nothing had any real flavor. I love Spanish food because most dishes have a lot of flavor to them and I'm not scared of heat. Everything was just crappy. $20 down the drain. Yuca fries tasted like the freezer the came in and their spicy salsa seemed it was frozen as well and thawed out. Very overpriced for mediocre Mexican food. The portions were quite small, and the guacamole was definitely not fresh.

The single most disappointing burrito I have ever eaten. I ordered a vegetarian burrito that was said to have vegetables and beans. What was delivered was a rice and lettuce wrap with a barely noticeable smear of black beans. There were no onions, tomatoes, cheese, or any other vegetables in the mix. I almost never complain, but for $21 (we ordered two) I was given about 40 cents worth of food. I showed the owner who just told me that the lettuce was the vegetable. They should have offered a refund - I did not have time for them to make something else. read more

Extremely disappointed with this place. On Monday 8/19 at 9pm, I was taking care of my daughter and her two Ecuadorean friends when we all got the craving for Mexican food. We walked over to Mex-to-go and arrived at 9:10pm and the woman at the counter told us they were closed. I told her the hours listed ON THEIR OWN WEBSITE indicate they close at 10pm. She said no, we close at 9pm. Not one to argue, we walked out and went to MARACAS, a newly-opened Mexican place about a block down the street where we had a fantastic dinner. When we left Maracas to walk back to the car, we walked past Mex-to-go where we see people leaving with to-go orders -- an HOUR after we were denied service!! They were still open and serving food. The only difference was that the lazy (or discriminatory) worker was now in the presence of the owner. The girls didn't want me to make a scene but I briefly walked in and said loudly, 'You told us you were closed.' Did the store discriminate against us because of the kids? Because of their skin color? Who knows. This type of thing should not happen anywhere. But especially not in Croton. read more

I've taken food out numerous times over the years and it's always fresh and delicious. Their tortilla soup is great as are the other soups. I've had their whole chicken with sides, their burritos, especially their al pastor- they even have mole occasionally. I highly recommend it! read more

I came in for a quick lunch, and with a name like Mex-to-go I figured it would be in and out. Food was done quickly (I ordered a chicken burrito $11). When I saw it did not come with anything, no side of rice, not even chips I asked for some chips and salsa. Well that cost me an additional $4.80! It wasn't even a big portion for that price. Worst part about it was their salsa. It was terrible... like a smokey bland sauce, not like any salsa I have ever had before (see pics). My burrito came with a similar sauce and it was just as bad. When I swapped their home made sauce for packets of cholula it made a world of difference. The chicken was cooked well, and it had a nice amount of guacamole inside. Its sad that their house hot sauce is so bad... If you were to come in for lunch I would definitely say don't order a side of chips (rip off) and pass on their salsa and sauce. Great Mexican option if you find yourself in this part of town.I had a $5 chicken Arepa,it was delish.Its a nice place to grab lunch as long as you don't mind everything is alacarte and a little pricey.There maybe less expensive options in other communities like Tarrytown, Ossining or Peekskill but if you find yourself in the lower end of Croton this is it. The food is decent, but lets be honest, it's hard to fuck up mexican food. The prices are outrageous. Warning, you order something in plural like sopes or tacos, and you get ONE for the price of 3! I really couldnt tell bc of the flavors of everythihg else) and rice, beans, lettuce, tomatoes. I had the salsa verde on the side wihich comes in those tiny ass little side cups. The chips and guac were pathetic also. Same tiny little cup with homemade guac [which was good] but not enough. For the price, I could have gotten more at T-Bells and with just the same if not more flavor. I'm trying to steer away from chains but damn, kick it up a notch! I'll come back again to give them another try but if I experience the same small portions for higher prices, and just mediocre flavor, then I'll have to pass on this local joint. read more

I can't believe I was charged 6.41 for a pint of Gazpacho. This is a take out joint, they didn't even give a few tortilla chips with the soup and they used to. I felt bad it's the first time I did not leave a tip for a counter help . I felt like the bandidos got me.yes the soup is good, and it's the only place I know in the area to buy it. Time to do some research . The only beef(steak) I have with the soup itself is the tomatoes are canned not fresh. Aside from that it's only available in the summer as it is a cold soup. I have been there for other Mexican food in the past yet I think that price pissed me off enough to stay clear . These guys have been around for a long time, but the only reason I can think of is that there isn't any competition for takeout Mexican in the general area. The young lady behind the counter was in a trance. I was the only one there when I placed a simple order, and yet she A) got it wrong, and B) tried to charge me twice. My tacos came without sour cream. And the tamale, which I did not ask for sour cream on, did have it. They also took a surprisingly long time. The food itself was good, but not great by any means. The pork and beef were kind of dry. In summary, if you're craving some Mexican food for takeout and you're right in the area, I guess give them a try. But don't expect too much. read more

Absolute yum! Came here on the way home from Mt Beacon by searching for tacos along our route... I'll have to bookmark this place next time we hike! It's small and cute and looks like it's run by people who care. I had two tacos, steak and beef, which were perfect with the roma tomato sauce. My friend had a chicken quesadilla and said "for something so inexpensive it was tasty and filling!" I really agree. We both walked out spending less than $10 and feeling great. Lovely!
