    Playa Burrito Bowl (vegetarian)
    Sel Z.

All of the Mas Playas restaurants live up to their reputation for serving some of the best Mexican dishes in Toronto. I've always been a big fan of the original Playa Cabana location on Dupont, so I had high expectation when trying this newer location - and it did not disappoint. Similar menu, same great taste and big portions. We came on a weekend early afternoon and it was empty, we were the only patrons there. No reservation was needed. Service was fast - they cooked and served everything within 10 minutes of ordering. Ambiance was casual with nice music in the background that wasn't too loud (we could hear conversations without any problem). Review of the dishes: 1) Playa Burrito Bowl (vegetarian) - I liked the variety of protein options, including vegetarian. I loved the char on the vegetables (zucchini, yellow bell pepper, carrot strips, corn). The bowl had a good mix of all the ingredients (Mexican rice, beans, guacamole, fresh lettuce & red cabbage). Very tasty and wholesome. 2) Camaron Burrito - Gigantic portion, filled with Mexican rice and whole tender shrimps inside. It was topped with salsa verde, salsa roja, queso fresco, and cilantro; served with guacamole, pico de gallo, and lettuce on the side. This dish could be shared among 2-3 people. 3) Grilled Fish Soft Tacos - You can choose to get 2 or 3 tacos. Each taco consisted of a large piece of grilled white fish, guacamole, red cabbage, guajillo mayo, cholula, jalapeňo salsa, guajillo salsa, and cilantro. The fish was very soft and smooth. The sauces went so well with the fish, and each bite was like a flavour bomb in the mouth. 4) Lobster Crispy Tacos - Not many Mexican restaurants in the city serve lobster tacos, and Playa Cabana does it so well! They're very generous with the lobster meat. Each taco was filled with big pieces of East coast lobster that was cooked perfectly and not over-dressed. The salsa roja, queso fresco, crema, pico de gallo, guacamole, guajillo salsa, and cilantro all complimented the lobster very well. This is a must-get every time I dine at Playa Cabana. The only down side is that this location doesn't have any salad or vegetables-only item (as a side) on the menu, but hopefully that will change some day (they tend to change up their menu from time to time).

We tried this Mexican place. The place is large but there were not many people even on the weekend. The place is adequately decorated and the service was excellent. The food was ok without being really remarkable. We had the a beef bowl and burritos with churros. I had the Mojito which was well prepared.

I came here on a Saturday night with a party of three. We had a reservation for 7pm and were seated pretty promptly. The ambiance was pretty good, the decor and the music were really nice. but the initial service was just okay. we waited for about 15 minutes for someone to come and take our order and we were a little disappointed that a jug of water was at the table but there were no glasses for us to self-serve. We tried the Nachos a la Plancha Carne Asada Polla Al Carbon Chicken Enchiladas Suiza Pollo Tinga Crispy The "Nachos" were actually just 2 tostadas cut into 4 triangles each. There were a few filler vegetables like carrots in there that didn't make sense. Tha Carne Asada didn't have any flavour and had a lot of filler vegetables like onions and green beans. The Pollo Al Carbon mainly had dark meat which also didn't have much flavour to it. The Enchilada plate was pretty good, but the side dishes that came with it, like beans and rice were cold. Lastly the Pollo Tinga Crispy, was honestly the only item I enjoyed. It was flavourful and had lots of meat in each taco. In total, for 3 drinks & 5 small items the bill came out to $180 which felt a little steep especially for food we did not really enjoy. Overall the food was okay, the service was fine but the value for money was not there.

We were out and about near the St. Lawrence Market and were in the mood for a patio experience. Playa Cabana was right there and featured a small yet comfortable-looking patio. Sold! We'd already eaten a bit of food at another restaurant, so we decided to share the Nachos a la Plancha ("tortillas, queso Oaxaca, chorizo, guacamole, crema, jalapenos"). It arrived a short time later and was almost intimidating in terms of the amount of food that had been piled atop a fairly small tray. And indeed, these are very loaded nachos. All the components work really well together, from the tasty cheese sauce to the plentiful chorizo to the tasty guacamole. The only stumbling block was the fact that the tray had obviously been sitting around for a few minutes before we got it, because the dish arrived to the table warm rather than hot. This diminished the overall effectiveness of the dish, but I did still enjoy it quite a bit. I also grabbed Dave's Margarita and it was really tasty.

So happy we chose to check out this Mexician restaurant on a night out. Service was amazing and they even have a nice patio space during the warmer months. We had 2 of their chorizo rojo crispy tacos and their playa burrito. Firstly, I appreciate that their tacos were a good size with plenty of filling and topping. I've had plenty of small sad tacos at the same price, so I was delighted to be served two tacos overflowing with filling. Secondly, their burritos are delicious especially served with rice and beans. It was the perfect amount of food for two hungry adults. Love that they make all their sauces and marinades from scratch and in house! A definite recommendation.

We stopped by here Saturday night and had a really good experience. The service was ok and the food was fantastic. The ambiance was interesting with a combination of eclectic pieces the owner has picked up over the years. THE FOOD: Tuna Ceviche: - I've ordered lots of ceviche dishes over the years and this one was a huge portion and more authentic than most. I find in Canada, restaurants typically make ceviche wrong and this one was a good blend of tuna, lime juice and watermelon , that created a wonderful flavour composition. The portion was more common with what you would receive in Central America and I would give it 5/5 stars! Beef Tacos: - The beef tacos had a wonderful flavour but are definitely for someone craving a lot of meat. The tacos were very meat heavy and a little difficult to eat. The portion was generous but this wasn't my favourite taco due to the lack of vegetables. However this was my partner's favourite taco. I would give it 4/5 stars. Shrimp Tacos: - The shrimp tacos were really good. They were more plain than the beef ones in terms of flavour but they were easier to eat and had more vegetables via the salsa included with the tacos. I added a bunch of lemon juice, which made this flavourful for me. I would give this 5 stars. Would We Return? Absolutely!

The La Truck and Crispy Lobster tacos were incredible. Probably some of the best tacos I've had - and I've had a lot of tacos. Great outdoor seating and great service.

We have walked past this place many times, so we finally took the opportunity to have an early (just before 6pm) dinner. Given the great weather, we took a patio table looking at the Berzcy park. The service was a bit slow - unlike the restaurant next door, there was no one just looking after the patio section. Given the weather, the patio was fairly busy - so it felt a bit unusual. The food was good, large portions (we had the beef barbacoa burrito and fish tacos), but nothing special. Having been to Mexico many times, the food felt authentic - there was no heat level specification, the sauces were tasty. The salad in the salsa was a bit old though - not off; but not fresh either. The cocktails were also great, and good selection of both Mexican and Mexican inspired (mules replaced with mezcal etc). That said, the food and drinks were very expensive - especially given the completion around this area. The prices are set as if this was fine dining, but the menu is only tacos and burritos. There is a big disconnect between the price and quality here. We were glad to try the place out - and cross another local neighbourhood place off the list; but there are many more places with better value for money.

    Tacos and margaritas

This is a pricey Mexican restaurant. The flavors were pretty good. The spicy mango margarita was tasty. Food can be seasoned a little more. They should serve some house made hot sauce which could be a great add. Tacos can be pretty messy. They should have cloth napkins instead of going through so many paper napkins. Our waitress was attentive and brought our food and drinks out pretty quickly. The interior looks like a dinner with a Mexican twist. They have nice neon lights all over.

We opted for the rooftop bar which had a high energy, upscale, and stylish vibe to it. We ended up sitting at the bar as it was very crowded. I ordered a frozen Aperol Spritz which was excellent and I could drink a few of these. For food we ordered a burger and fries which was good but nothing to write home about. The place SEEMED quiet but shortly thereafter the place got JAMMED! Initially it was slow service but it picked up shortly. We had several different servers so no single server is tagged here. I will say that it's a hip, nicely equipped restaurant. We decided to do an appie meal. We ordered Sichuan Chicken lettuce wraps ($25.50)..this was the best of the appies. The next was the Crab Dip ($20.75), it was hot but not overly tasty. 3rd was the Hot Chicken Bites with pickles ($16.00). They were ok but not hot in temp enough. The final was the Chili Citrus Calamari ($21.25). This was the worse of the dishes. Simply put, it was cold. The server removed this from our bill. In summary...I wouldn't go out of my way again to go here but given all things being equal, the servers were very good. As a final note...the bathroom was very clean & well maintained.

The food was incredible- one our tastebuds won't forget! Our group of 5 started with fresh sushi and sashimi, table side Caesar salad and the softest brioche served with sun-dried tomato butter that was perfect in every way. Main course: Australian wagyu ribeye that we didn't even have to chew plus a strip loin and beef Wellington (which was maybe the only thing I don't need to order again, but still delicious). All the sides were amazing and finally sticky toffee pudding and butter cake to put us in a complete food coma. Wouldn't change a thing about this meal. We cannot thank you enough Tyler (and Toronto!!)!

I found myself wanting to try most of the cocktails, which is a rarity. We got the Strawberry Tetsu to start (inspired by Uncle Tetsu's Japanese cheesecake), along with the Cloudy Oolong (tea-based cocktail with a salted caramel cheese foam). The Strawberry Tetsu tasted like a dessert and was delicious, with a graham cracker crumble rim. The Cloudy Oolong had a strong tea taste which I loved, as sometimes the tea can get lost in a cocktail. The foam on top was addicting and paired nicely with it, similar to a bubble tea. Next, I had the Burnt Yuzu which was light and refreshing from the citrus. The bar is hidden behind Misfit Ice Cream, with a speakeasy vibe to the interior. We walked up to an unassuming entrance that is part of the experience, and once inside, the atmosphere shifts completely. The space is intimate and cozy with dim lighting, comfortable seating, and a relaxed speakeasy vibe that makes it easy to settle in for a couple of drinks. The transition from the street to the interior feels deliberate, and the low-key energy of the room encourages lingering. The cocktail menu leans heavily into Asian-inspired flavors, and that is what makes it stand out. Every drink feels thoughtfully developed rather than relying on presentation alone. We tried the Cloudy Oolong, which was especially memorable with its rich tea flavor and creamy cheese foam that added a savory depth to the cocktail. The Strawberry Tetsu offered a dessert-like profile without becoming overly sweet, balancing fruit and tea notes in a way that felt refined and well composed. Each cocktail arrived beautifully presented and balanced, making it easy to appreciate the amount of care that goes into every glass. The menu is creative without being gimmicky, and the flavors are well integrated, with each drink offering something distinct. Located on the 31st floor of the St. Regis Hotel, the restaurant has an incredible atmosphere. The dining room is absolutely stunning with a classy and luxurious feel, but it still feels comfortable and inviting rather than too formal. We started the evening with cocktails before moving into the Summerlicious menu. I ordered the "I Only Drink When I Smoke," which was a great way to start the night. It had a subtle smoky flavour with a touch of sweetness, and the alcohol was not overpowering at all. It was smooth, easy to sip on, and the perfect drink to enjoy while having conversations. For my Summerlicious menu, I started with the Tartare de Boeuf and Caviar. The filet mignon tartare was fresh and really smooth, with a nice balance of rich and savoury flavours. The toasted bread also gave it a nice crunch and paired really well with the tartare. For the main course, I had the Roasted Chateaubriand Filet. When the plate was served, the meat looked really rare as I saw nothing but red on the meat, but it was incredibly tender, making it easy to cut through. It was full of flavour, and the sauce complemented the steak without being too heavy or salty. The vegetables added a nice balance to the dish, and the creamy mashed potatoes were smooth, and definitely one of my favourite parts of the meal. To finish, I had the Mango Passionfruit Cheesecake. It was creamy without feeling too heavy. Though the fruity flavours from the mango passionfruit were a bit tart and sweet for my palate, it still gave an overall refreshing touch. The crust added a nice texture, and it was the perfect ending to the meal. Beyond the food, what really stood out was the service and pacing of the evening. Each course arrived at the right time, allowing us to enjoy every dish without feeling rushed. The price point is definitely on the higher end, so it is not somewhere I would personally visit for a casual dinner on a regular basis. However, for a special occasion, celebration, or a night where you want to enjoy a beautiful dining experience, I think Louix Louis would be a great choice... and for $75/ person for Summerlicious/ Winterlicious, definitely a great value to sample the chefs' artistry. Overall, it was a memorable evening with an elegant atmosphere, thoughtfully prepared dishes, and great service. I can definitely understand why this spot has become such a popular destination, and I would love to come back again for Winterlicious!

Perched high above the bustle of downtown Toronto, LOUIX LOUIS makes a compelling first impression…read more The dining room is genuinely handsome -- a study in polished Art Deco glamour softened by sweeping city views that lend every table a sense of occasion. On a Valentine's Day brunch visit, the atmosphere alone was enough to justify the reservation. The kitchen demonstrates genuine competence: dishes arrive with care, the pacing is unhurried, and the mise en scène -- from tableside presentation to that now-famous thirteen-layer chocolate cake -- reveals an establishment that understands the theatre of fine dining. That towering slice of chocolate cake, in particular, is a masterstroke of marketing and pastry craft in equal measure; it draws the eye, earns its reputation, and very nearly steals the show. Where LOUIX LOUIS gives one pause is in the cuisine's ability to fully match its surroundings. The cooking is accomplished and reliably pleasant, yet seldom rises to the level of genuine distinction one might hope for at this price point. Dishes satisfy without surprising; technique is evident but inspiration, at moments, feels held in reserve. For the corporate traveller or the visitor seeking a polished, geographically convenient showcase of the city's skyline, this represents an entirely sound choice. For those seeking an experience whose flavours linger as long as the view, the kitchen has room yet to grow into its magnificent stage. Service is attentive and well-intentioned, though it can occasionally want for the depth of knowledge that elevates a good meal into a memorable one. LOUIX LOUIS is, in sum, a very good restaurant striving -- not quite yet arriving -- at greatness. The bones are exceptional; one hopes the culinary vision will, in time, catch up with them.
