He even broke down which photos were more about styling versus the cut itself, which made such a difference in aligning expectations. The cut itself was incredibly meticulous. Suguru walked me through what he did and why, explaining how each section would fall and how it would grow out over time. You can tell he's cares about his work. I left with a cut that looks like what I wanted but still works with minimal styling (which is great for me). I got my hair cut by Kiyo, and he cut my hair better than I could've ever hoped! I had a million asks (keep the length, lighten up the top, shorten the bangs, lift the back, straighten out the ends without being too blunt, and even everything out from my bad attempt at cutting my own hair lol), and he made sure to follow through on every single one. He paid so much attention to detail by constantly comparing the length on both sides, checking the weight of each layer, cutting both wet and dry, etc. He was checking in with me the whole way through, and was overall so so nice. He also styled it so well and walked me through how to do it at home, which was so amazing. I'm telling all my friends about the salon and Kiyo especially. The reviews are all justified for Master Suguru. I had been with my hair stylist for 25 years. Sadly, retirement is around the corner for my beloved stylist, so I had to find someone who had the hand skills to reproduce my beloved hair. I showed Suguru photos of my favorite hair look, and he was able to reproduce it. After 10 minutes of being in his chair, I felt immediate confidence that he had the highest talent and experience. Good haircut as usual on the follow, but the service was super weird and "scold-y". I had trimmed the back of my hair myself, but was told by Suguru that everything looked "so messy" he didn't know what to do. "What do you think you want me to do?" literally came out of his mouth. I realized he had assumed I'd also cut my bangs and the rest of my hair, but I had not. It had just grown out. He didn't speak to me the rest of the appointment and told the cashier to charge me extra for the haircut (they have a pricing range and LOTS of rules). Had a really great first haircut at MEY! I had walked by a few times and always thought it seemed like a cool place so when I decided I needed a haircut I booked an appointment. Suguru the owner was very nice and cool and we talked through what I wanted and gave me lots of good input. I always get nervous when my hair gets styled at the salon but even after washing the cut is amazing and you can tell it's very professional! Cute new salon on a sleepy stretch of East 3rd street. The ground floor is simple and sunny, with hanging plants and superbly comfy wash stations. Downstairs is darker and more boho. Sei cut my hair, and was thoughtful and sweet from consultation through cutting and styling. The head massage during the wash was one of the best I've ever had; it was so calming I nearly fell asleep! I'm very happy with the cut and loved the break from the usual salon experience of being told about the various styling products I should buy and use. Sei was 100% with me when I said I want a low-maintenance cut that I wouldn't need to style daily. Accessibility note: the wash stations and 2-3 chairs are ground level, while the bathroom and Sei's chair are basement level (down a steep flight of stairs). read more
