Seating is cozy and limited. Service is great. The drinks are unique and strong. The food is a hit and miss. The Yuka fries and sauce are very few for a side. The fries are cripsy and tasty. The sauce is a nice compliment The veggie torda is adequate and super tasty. Th chips and the 4 sauces(?) Is a good deal. The chips are crispy and tasty. The gauc is fresh, the salsas are fresh, tasty and unique. The cheese is tasty. The tacos are a miss- the fish tacos are ok. The chicken taco is raw with bland chicken .The tofu taco is different but nothing to boast about. Some of the tacos are topped with raw red onions, which are pungent and raw. We came here on a Friday night as a party of six and they were very accommodating with taking us pretty quickly. I loved sitting in the patio as it was more quiet. The chips came out warm as did the delicious fried plantains. They have vegetarian options and I ordered the veggie enchiladas. I was especially impressed with the black beans. I ordered chicken tortilla soup here because on the menu it listed the following ingredients: Chicken Broth, Hominy, Corn, Cilantro, Onions, Avocado & Tortilla Strips, Pulled Chicken. Perfect! What I was served was so spicy I could hardly eat it. I couldn't understand why. I tried to eat a few more bites, and then found a chili árbol pepper floating in the bowl. For context that's a step higher on the Scoville spice rating chart than serranos. Not cool. I asked the waitress if I had missed this detail on the menu she said, "I don't know, but I do know that the kitchen tosses some peppers into the soup." What?! Why is any kitchen staff adding ingredients that are not listed on the menu to any dish? What if I (or someone else ordering this dish) had a serious allergy to peppers? Putting ingredients that are not listed on the menu into the dishes you are serving could put your patrons with allergies at serious risk. I used to go to Mezcalito's all the time when I lived nearby and a recent visit confirmed it's the same great little cantina I remember. I love the vibe as it makes you feel like you're in an authentic little cantina south of the border. And the food is excellent! Their chips are consistently fresh and they have a variety of salsas and queso to choose for a starter. My go-to is the tostadas which are great with their tender and flavorful shredded chicken. For drinks they have a good selection of cervezas and the sangria is notably good; it's less sweet than typical with some interesting notes in the finish. It tends to get crowded as it's a smaller place (the dining room was packed on a Monday) but service is good and they typically get orders out quickly. If you want some authentic Mexican food and are in the Decatur/Oakhurst area you can't beat Mezcalito's. read more

The Decatur spot is one of their two locations with this name. I hear the other location is larger and has a larger menu. This location does not carry the street corn or churros that are all the rage. Location is a little tricky to follow to find with the gps. We parked on the side of the road and walked it. Yes, I looked dazed and confused. Cute, quaint and heavily decorated. You can tell they get a good flow of regulars to. Our server Eric, was awesome. He helped us with some great suggestions. So, about the food, it's sooo good. My tacos had so much flavor and they were not skimpy. Suggestion if you order fish, they change the type of fish daily so ask which fish it is. I don't like to write negative reviews. Too often, they are written by people who don't understand the food they are eating - like someone expecting Tex-Mex at a Oaxacan restaurant, when they have never encountered Oaxacan culture or cuisine before. Although I have traveled extensively in Mexico, and I'm a huge fan of all the moles I've met, I could have missed one...and maybe that was the sauce on the roasted poblano I ordered via Uber Eats tonight. Billed as green mole, it was actually a drab putty gray. I didn't detect much garlic, cumin or salt; or any of the array of fresh herbs that give mole verde its name. On the plus side, it did taste of pumpkin seeds, and packed a mild punch of heat. I might have chalked up my disappointment to this being my first order from the restaurant, and I simply made a poor call. But my avocado salad boasted its own weirdness - a drizzle of sweet avocado sauce that could have been avocado and...condensed milk??? Again, could have been my misdirected expectation of something with a hit of citrus/acid, and I am simply not familiar with this type of dressing. I was very glad I had ordered chips, cheese dip, and salsa, though. They were dinner, along with my wiped-down avocado slices, and the black beans that came with my gray-sauced pepper. It's possible, too, that my review might have been much less disappoint-y if I had dined in, with a fabulous marg at the ready...who knows? read more

Delivery order I ordered the two chicken enchilada meal for myself and I was presently surprised. It didn't weigh a ton so I was concerned that it wouldn't be enough, but I was wrong. It came with green rice and black beans, both were flavorful and not overly salty. Thank goodness. The two enchiladas were filled with shredded chicken that was all white meat and tasty. It may have had corn in it too. One enchilada had green sauce on top and the other red. Both topped with melted cheese. They were too close together for me to really tell the difference in sauce flavor, but both were good. I only wish chips came with it, but that isn't a deal breaker. Now I just need to go and visit the establishment next time and try the chips and salsa to see if they earn the last star. read more

To drink I got a watermelon mojito and it was super tasty and perfect for a hot summer Sunday. We started with the drip trio and all of them were so good- I remember the salsa being so good when I first went and it did not disappoint! For brunch my friend and I got Chilaquiles with eggs. WOW it's basically a tortilla chip lasagna that has an egg on top. Pro-tip keep your salsas for your meal! Added some extra salsa on my dish and it added the perfect touch. With that said, the queso and guac were both really good and we had no complaints with the salsas. We also order the Chicken Tostadas, Fried Shrimp Tacos, Taco Chinos and the Yucca Fries. Each and every food item we tried, we really liked but our favorites were the Taco Chinos and Yucca Fries. Both of these were so good that we continue to order these every time we go. ***Drinks*** We've tried the Mojitos, Margaritas, and the Sangria. They were all tasty drinks and would order again. ***Service*** The service is always great. The servers are always friendly and helpful and we always feel welcomed. My husband and I came here for a weeknight dinner because I was craving tacos. This spot was down the street from us so we decided to check it out. We came here an hour before closing so we were seated quickly. They do have outdoor patio seating which would be really nice during the spring/summer. Our waitress was very kind and attentive. The chips and salsa tasted freshly made, super delicious. I had the steak tacos, my husband had the brisket quesadilla with a chicken taco on the side. Our food came out super quick! My tacos were really flavorful! My husband liked his quesadilla and his taco. I didn't care for the beans, a little too much cilantro but it could be for someone!
