Ever since Yelp announced that they were open, I could not wait to visit this place as it is one of my personal favorites within the area. The first one I found was the one over in Hampton and while it did take a bit for them to find their stride, I was never really super excited crossing the M/M just to go. I guess they've taken the time to learn from the others and have done well at meeting the demand in a short period of time. I'm happy that they are now local. Upon entering, the only thing that may intimidate a newbie is that you walk in with no direction on what to do, etc. It may help if they include the menus closer to the doorway so that people can at least get the gist of what to do. It's a lot to take in and for people who are meticulous with knowing the flavor profile each and every single item on their plate, it may be a bit much. Ordered Mezeh's catering. The food was delicious and high quality. We ordered the shawarma package and added a falafel and extra shawarma. The pitas and all the sides were fresh and amazing. We even managed to please some folks from the midwest who were unfamiliar with mediterranean cuisine...it was time for them to know! Our order was delivered all the way to Smithfield by the most professional delivery service. He arrived in a black bow tie and black pants and insisted on setting everything up. Fresh new Mediterranean restaurant just opened. I think I found my new favorite place. This area is has no Mediterranean options until Mezeh opened yesterday. The staff was extremely friendly and very efficient. I am so happy they finally opened because it has been a long work i progress due to covid. I should have been eating here a year ago. Like most places, the type of service you receive depends on who's working. On two different occasions, the woman preparing my bowl basically helped me create a wonderful variety of flavors. Her recommendations were the best. Then there was a time I visited this restaurant and she wasn't there. In fact, no one really was. The staff were very nice. That is about all good I have to say about this place. I assume the people giving 5 star rating have never eaten good Mediterranean food. They are trying to cover flavors of most of the med and unfortunately missing the mark on what makes that food so amazing. Everything was very bland. The lamb kefta was overcooked and dry. The spicy hummus was bland and not even a little spicy and I would say the same about the harissa. Is wasn't gross or anything. Just very boring. Not what I expect from Mediterranean food. It's like the subway of Mediterranean food. I doubt I will be back. Which makes me sad since I was excited to have something like this closer to home.
