So I know Turkish food. I lived in Istanbul for 7 years. So I was looking forward to this. Yes I know. When it comes to Turkish food I'm picky. Especially when they advertise it as Turkish food. He said I could have it in a bowl. Crazy. I went with the lahmacun plate. It was soggy and tasteless. Needed salt and a lot more greens to put on it. I ask for it spicy and they looked at me strange. It wasn't. They said there were red pepper flakes at the condiments bar. Their pepper flakes were normal American red pepper flakes you give at Pizza Hut, not Turkish pepper. Not the same thing at all. Yuk. Anyway try it out as an American. It wasn't bad. But don't think it is Turkish. It's not. Btw the servers were friendly. But the menus are hard to figure out. I was in bad need of some snacks after saying farewell to the Flying Saucer. MezzeMe to the rescue! You pick a base (salad, pita, rice) and then pick your meat/falafel and two mezze. I had the rice with falafel, hummus and cheese pastry. It was for sure plenty of food! It came with four big falafel balls and two cheese pastries. I got the last two of those so the boyfriend lucked out that I was in a sharing mood. The hummus was very good and put even the best store bought hummus to shame. I recently moved from San Francisco to Austin and I was worried about not finding good Turkish food here. There are tons of Turkish restaurants in SF but only 2 or 3 in Austin. I decided to give MezzeMe a shot and I was pleasantly surprised! The Iskender I tried was amazing! The truth is that it is extremely difficult to get Iskender right when outside of Turkey. MezzeMe had the best Iskender I've ever tried in the US hands down! I can't wait to come back to this place to try out their other Turkish dishes. We've been ordering from this location for over two years. I love all Middle Eastern/Mediterranean food, so I was excited to see this place within walking distance. We are pretty frequent customers, probably ordering here at least once a week, if not more. Pre-pandemic, we used to eat in-restaurant, but these days we mostly get to-go, although we have eaten outside a few times. Their menu has changed quite drastically, we miss being able to build salad bowls, but despite that the food quality has remained surprisingly high throughout it all. Prior to the pandemic, this was a no-question five star restaurant. However, they have been dealing with seemingly constant staffing issues (I see new faces every time we pick up now), they pretty consistently mess up something about our order (no pita bread, differing types of pita bread, missing sauces, missing ingredients), the quality is sometimes lacking (ordering the döner is always hit and miss, if it's not during peak hours it can sometimes be dry) and their estimates are generally not very accurate (sometimes we have to wait quite a long time when picking up to-go orders). In short, the overall experience is just very inconsistent. And to top it off, the price of all the dishes just went up by $2-4 on average. I can only assume this is due to rising rents, cost of living for employees and food costs, but I am only left to speculate since I can't find any reason for it anywhere. Despite all of the above, the reason I am still giving this place four stars is because generally the food quality is still very high, I've always had good experiences with the staff and I dearly appreciate having them at this location. This place is great if you're looking for a quick and light lunch granted you don't eat the whole bowl! I ended up taking about half of it to-go. Flavors were light without being to subtle. So if you're looking for Mediterranean food with lots of spice, you probably won't enjoy the food here too much. Some things I liked here was the falafel (although it was a bit more grainy than other places I had, but still good), spicy tabouli, and the regular hummus (it tasted better than the red pepper hummus imo). I've probably only been to maybe around five build your own (aka "Chipotle style") Mediterranean spots in general. But of all five, MezzMe has become my instant favorite. It's cozy, easy on the eyes, personable service, and of course gr10 food. I came on a Saturday 5:30PM evening with a buddy to a soon to be bustling spot. Hot food quick and enjoyed chatting and eating for 1.5 hours. PSA - they have $2 mimosas all Saturday and Sunday as of the time of this post. So you bet your bottom dollar I got myself a mimosa. And if you check in, you get a Turkish coffee with a main entree. Inside/Outside - nestled in the Triangle, MezzMe is one of several eateries that serve the adjoined apartments and surrounding communities. The outside comprises of simple metal tables for quick eating or outdoor enjoying individuals. The inside on the other hand is spacious, with plenty of seating and pretty decor. I liked the wall of colorful plates and neatly written chalk signs. Food - as indicated on the menu, you have appetizers/shareables with the main entrees a build-your-own of Pita Pocket, wrap, greens, "crazy grain", or white rice. From there you choose a protein, a number of mezzes depending on your base, and unlimited toppings. I personally got the pita pocket with beef and lamb doner as my protein. I got shakashuka as my Mezze which had eggplant and other goodies in it. And then I just got all the toppings. On top of that I got the spicy harissa and mint garlic yogurt as my dressings. I also got truffle feta fries. I personally enjoyed the pita pocket. It was honestly a lot packed in a little pocket of fun. I would recommend to be better judiciously than I was with the toppings. I could tell they were fresh and full of flavor. But it was just too many flavors in every single bite - so definitely my Cardi B. Otherwise it was prepared really well with enough meat and still didn't feel heavy after eating. The truffle feta fries were also good with none of the truffle/feta being overpowering. The fries were rightly crispy. aAlbeit a bit pricey for the amount you get. Service - not much to say generally because you order and then sit down. But with the little interactions we got, the people were amiable and answered all our questions with care and personality. Whomever passed by us or others made sure we were okay and satisfied. Can't complain tbh. Overall, I'd recommend this spot if you want a different kind of Mediterranean eatery. Of course you can't beat mum-n-pop or hole-in-the-wall locations. I have driven in this little shopping area, the Triangle, before and I really liked it. I came here with my dad for lunch today and I really liked it. The outside had a very cute set up of tables and a little corn hole game. The inside also had a very chill and decorative vibe to it that I really enjoyed. You order at the counter and they bring the food to you so this is good for people not looking for a place where you are served. There was a good amount of variety in what you could order and is much like other Mediterranean restaurants such as Cava and Daphnes which are popular in Austin. The food came out pretty quick and was really good. I will say it was a bit colder than expected with the grains and the chicken wasn't cut up at all which was inconvenient, but other than that I had absolutely no complaints. read more

Pita Pocket: chicken These are hard times due to COVID-19 and there was a help wanted sign on the door so I can forgive waiting 30 minutes for my to go order. I have not been in a while and it looks like they had a menu change. I usually get the bowl with chicken and add the mezze but decided to try the pita. I should not have switched! The flavor is always good but the pita states it comes with fries. I was surprised to discover the fries were put inside the pita??? Is this a Turkish thing? It amounted to getting about 4 soggy fries in my pita. Awful! Ask for tje fries separately and maybe you will get more. O paid $10 for basically just the pita. Ask them for extra of whatever dressing you get because they are very light on the dressing. Ask them to chop the chicken into smaller pieces or do it yourself because my pita had 2 big pieces of chicken stuffed in there so every bite was essentially pulling the big piece out and having to put it back in the pita. I really love their food but my suggestion is just serve the fries on the side with the pita, not on the inside.
