Stayed at 3rd Square apartments for a year from June 2017 to June 2018. It was an awesome experience. Very responsive and friendly staff from the leasing office, especially Stephen. He really goes out of the way to answer my queries and assist in my requests. Concierge and maintenance staff also very friendly and helpful. Will never forget Kyle and his amazing smile. Common facilities as well as facilities within the apartment are very new and well maintained. Gym is very well-equipped. Love the courtyard where the kids can play and run around. The management also organized many events to allow the occupants to mingle and enjoy. Nothing but full of praises for the hardworking staff and management team. Have been recommending to my friends who plan to stay at Cambridge to seriously consider 3rd Square. read more

It's hard to beat Third Square's location. And generally speaking it's a decent living experience. My issue with Third Square is they are demonstrably dishonest. Over the span of 5 months, Sep '22 to Feb '23, Third Square raised our lease offer by $1,000 (25%). They insisted this was reflective of the market and was fair. They even told me that the demand in March was simply higher than the demand in September, and that this was a big part of the reason for the increase (come again? Sep 1st is commonly known as the biggest move-in date of the year with 10's of thousands of students moving back to the area). As an aside- On a previous occasion when they raised our rent 14% they told me they were constantly monitoring the neighboring apartment complexes... so any prices they set were in alignment with the competition and were, again, fair and honest. Back to Feb '23- Because there were other apartments in the building for less than the new lease offered, we moved into one of those. They then posted our apartment 4 days after moving out for $900 less than the lease they had tried to push us into. $900 less than what they had stated was the true and fair market value. And hundreds of dollars less than the new apartment we just moved into. They flexed us out of our home with dishonesty, and when we didn't give into their attempts to manipulate, they put the apartment on the market for the true market value- which they now couldn't fake. I find this to be extremely offensive. Forcing us to move (with a 1 year old in tow, making everything much more difficult) after having been at Third Square for 2.5 years and never having made a late payment, all they cared about was squeezing us to see what they could force us into. I'd compare their practices to that of Comcast- zero interest in customer care and strict attention on revenue, all at the expense of their reputation. When dealing with Third Square, do so with skepticism and an aggressive business mind. You are not a valued customer, you are a revenue source interchangeable with any other revenue source. If you have experienced something similar at Third Square, or any other complex, I would urge you share your experiences with the Cambridge Consumer Council or to go directly to the Attorney General's website where you can file official complaints against an entity like an apartment complex. I'll lastly add that the personnel on site at Third Square are enjoyable and kind. For the most part they come from the area, they do their jobs well, and they even recognize the poor business practices of their employer. Re Third Square's reply- The response below is not for me at all, it's for the broader Yelp audience and meant to communicate to the Yelp audience that Third Square is not dishonest and manipulative, but is in fact engaged and caring- "notice how we're replying to Yelp complaints. We care." It's PR. However, it ignores the facts of the experience and glosses over the details that reveal an intention to manipulate clientele. Additionally, saying things like "may have impacted" or "may have caused you" when it's completely obvious that is has is patronizing and insulting. read more

Everything has been absolutely amazing. Covid 19 protocols are in place and safety is taken seriously. Amanda Ceballos has and Kyle Cherif have been phenomenal in ensuring we have the best possible move in experience And have gone really just above and beyond in great customer service and their knowledge of everything we need to know about the building. This has been the most streamlined and seamless move in for my husband and I and our four-year-old son. Our last apartmentWe had a bad experience because coven 19 safety was not a priority. We also had some issues with the excessive noise in the building and partying late at night from neighbours which was quite concerning because it would keep my child up at night. We are so happy to have found 3rd square and having been here for a little over a month at this point I can say that the tenants are respectful and the staff is great in forcing the covert 19 safety protocols and we are able to get sleep at night because it's nice and quiet. I cannot say enough about the staff and how great they are.. Kyle Cherif even Walked with me from the front desk to show me where my large package delivery could be picked up and then brought it all the way to my apartment with me because it was rather heavy. There have been multiple times where he has really just gone above and beyond to make sure that we have everything we need. Even after a month he followed up to see how things have been going in if we've been having any issues because he remembers my horror stories from my old apartment. What's more is where are loving the new apartment and it's such a great space... taking advantage of the pool reservations and the gym as well which is immaculately maintained. The complex is super noisy due to multiple adjacent construction projects and truck traffic. More specifically, the builders move materials using huge trucks early in the morning (2-6am), I guess since they don't want to deal with day to day the traffic. Other trucks also love the block, including the ones who frequent the adjacent lot, where there is a storage facility with a lot of activity early in the morning. So imagine, truck after truck accelerating (from 0 to like 10 miles per hour) next to your apartment. Very Loud engine noises, and very loud warning buzzers for trucks that back-up or load. You won't experience it if you visit the building during business hours and the leasing office won't tell you anything about it, even if you ask them specifically which I did. They try to keep the place clean and running well, but the construction is cheap with thin walls and where things (pool, elevators etc.) break down often. The few neighbors I got to talk to were all nice and friendly. However, the general atmosphere is business-like: people won't greet you at the elevator usually. It is a little strange given that it seems that many of the residents were born in very friendly places (e.g South America, middle east oil countries etc.). The truck photos I added were taken is the span of 3 mins early in the morning and I missed more trucks than i caught. The front desk staff and the cleaning and maintenance staff are the excellent: friendly, professional and polite. The leasing office staff is fine too. Finally: Don't believe the reviews on the complex web-site. I could not find a way to post a review there. A wonderful building and community. My mother, who is elderly and not in the greatest of health, has resided at 285 Third Street for almost ten years. Her apartment contains all the amenities she needs, and at easy access. For the understandably steady turnover of residents, with MIT and the other universities and colleges nearby, there's been a constant group of neighbors who keep an eye out for my mother, which is especially important as I live out of state and can't always be with her. The same can be said of all the concierges, management office and maintenance staff. They treat her with a constant kindness. It's their smiles, their professional yet easygoing personalities, which bring a lot of joy to her life. (They're also immediately responsive to any and all of her needs.) It's increasingly difficult to find a sense of community in our busy world, yet that exists at 285 Third Street. Both I - and the most important person to me in the world - are enormously grateful. read more

READ THE FINE PRINT when signing a lease!!!! If you have even the slightest doubt that you may not be there for the entire year, STAY AS FAR AWAY as you can! Your rent will jump in cost (not by $10's & $20's, but by $100's) when you receive your statement monthly. They will tell you that you have to give a 60 day notice and there will be no repercussions, but it is quite the opposite. Your rent will jump in cost when you receive your statement monthly and vary. We hit a personal tragedy with our family, gave our notice and paid until we left. I was told that they would make an effort to rent out my unit as a top priority, and 4 months later, it still has not been rented. And they are STILL BILLING ME! Now I am showing a bill for $31,000! Please do not make the same mistake that we did, and do not take anybody at face value. Do yourself the favor and rent from a smaller agency that has a heart and not this company. We stayed here for 1 year and could not wait to leave. The location used to be great (Kendall, by MIT, close to the river). But since December 2019, it's been a total nightmare with 4-5 construction sites going on around and noise starting sometimes at 3am, most nights - 5am. Beneath Bldg 303, there lies a high-pressure steam pipeline that releases industrial vapors and heat into apartments. Everyone in our household got health issues from it and it took us a while to figure out the cause. Our relative stayed with us for one month and started complaining about lack of energy, poor sleep, and headaches. Crews outside were working on this steam pipe for many months. Fixing anything is a pain. We reported dishwasher issues since the day we moved in (it was old and did not work properly) and while the maintenance crew responded quickly, they never cared to fix or replace it. We made a mistake moving in thinking they would address issues later. They are very cheap. Moving out was a joke. We notified the office 2.5 months in advance about our intention to leave, because we already bought a house out of state. We dropped the keys 3 weeks before the lease-end date. There was a total silence for one month. 10 days after the lease end date, the office finally sent us the move out inspection and final statement adding extrauneous multiple fees including "insufficient notice to vacate", floor scratches that were there before, and cleaning fees. They refused to remove any of these fees until we sent proof of our advance communication by email. Then, they made some adjustments quickly. Overall, they are very nice until you need to resolve any issues - then they are totally unprofessional. Very cheap and will go after every dollar to upcharge their tenants especially those who always pay the bills. read more

My apartment at Third Square was my first one in a corporately managed building. I lived there for one year. Steven, the community manager, along with the rest of the staff and maintenance crew were very accommodating and nice. The physical building itself, however, was an absolute nightmare: - The drainpipe for the washer overflowed three times and flooded the bathroom with dirty water. Maintenance told me they fixed it but they had not until the third time. - During a rainstorm, the ceiling leaked from rainwater and left standing water in the bathroom, living room, and entry closet. (I lived on the second out of eight floors. It also leaked below my apartment into the lobby.) - The toilet gurgled randomly about once a week or so and overflowed once. - The sink backed up with dirty (and smelly) water twice, once more than halfway. My sink wasn't clogged--there was water coming out of the drain. It's extremely worrying seeing your sink fill up with water from the drain and not knowing if it will stop. - There were mice that came into the apartment near the fridge. - There was a loud rattling in the floor due to the heat/AC on the first floor that guests could not sleep through. - The dishwasher and air conditioning broke, although they were fixed in the same day. (Photos of the first 5 are attached.) While this is not the fault of Equity Residential, there are constant trucks and construction noises since land on all 4 sides of the building is being redeveloped. (search: Volpe redevelopment and 585 Third Street, photo attached.) Management told me that the majority of the plumbing issues were caused by my neighbors, but considering the amount of water-related issues I'm skeptical about this. Either way, the plumbing seems to be extremely subpar. On top of all of this, Equity Residential wanted to raise my rent (for the same apartment) by 15%. I had gotten a move-in special, so for me this raise was effectively 40%. Steven said he was able to lower it by little bit by negotiating, but I never saw it in writing. Needless to say I did not renew my lease. A bright spot at Third Square is the maintenance crew. Every time I had an issue they were extremely timely and efficient about the problems. But (in my opinion) these problems shouldn't have happened in the first place especially considering the price of these apartments. read more

Lived here for a year and a half. The apartments had space and have decent amenities, but management can be a pain. Pros Space - We had a big apartment for the area. Gym - Convenient; it was an ok gym for a building Amenities: in unit washer/dryer, dishwasher, Garbage disposal all great Front Desk - it really is a front desk and not a doorman though so just a heads up. The staff is nice. Cons It's Bureaucratic, paying rent became a pain because either their payment processor would fail or they would improperly bill me, and they jack up rents when it comes time to renew. We had the opportunity to move because of such a large rent increase and honestly, should have taken advantage of it. Also, we had a mouse for a couple of months. Thikning back on it, had I not gone to school in Kendall, I would have rather rented a house, but third sq was honestly fine read more

If you are a dog owner and you love your dogs, DO NOT LIVE HERE. I am assuming that because of the location and amenities, some folks are willing to pay the OVERPRICED RENT to stay in these apartments. However, if you have a dog, I would recommend that you look elsewhere. They do not care about the dogs/dog owners who live in this building and do not value them as tenants. They place unfair and illogical rules placed on dogs. There is a large courtyard area with grass and a concrete walking path that leads into some of the entrances into the building. If you have a dog, you are not even allowed to walk your dog on the concrete walking path into your building. Meanwhile, the courtyard grass regularly is scattered with garbage, empty beer cans, leftover food from residents who hang out there. Once, I saw an entire steak just tossed into the grass... If the courtyard is meant to be so precious and pristine, why is this allowed, but my dog isn't allowed to simply just walk on the concrete through it? Most dog owners don't respect this rule - simply because of how truly ridiculous it is. The building also boasts of having a "dog run", which is really a tiny corner in the back of the building filled with wood chips, which is never cleaned and smells like hell. There used to be a giant hole in the fence that dogs could run out of, that the building left without repair for months. There was one point where one of the other residents wanted to raise money on their own (collecting donations from other dog owners) to get the wood chips replaced, so our dogs wouldn't have to run around in years old wood chips soaked in dog pee. I am looking for the first opportunity to move out. I don't know why I pay 3000$ for a 1 bedroom apartment that is supposedly "dog friendly", but am forced to literally hide and avoid communal areas because of my dog and am relegated to a dank, dark corner with piss-soaked wood chips. read more

NOT a Smoke-Free Building! - Do not move here with a family or young child Residents repeatedly smoke cannabis in the stairwells, and the odor permeates nearby condos for 3-4 floors due to the duct system. It's so potent that concierge staff and leasing agents both agreed it was a potent cannabis smell 30 yards away from the stairwell. Living here with an infant is terrible. It smells in our kitchen, living room, and nursery. I have pictures of 4-5 burnt cannabis blunts carelessly discarded on our stairwell this Saturday (23 Feb) and more on Sunday (24 Feb). We've repeatedly contacted the staff who came and taped over an air duct in our nursery. While the leasing staff are polite, they have failed to address this issue. Tonight, the Cambridge Police were consulted when the concierge on staff caught the resident in a chase down the hallway that startled many residents on the floor. Based on management's lack of impact in the past, I'm doubtful anything will change, but I truly hope Equity will terminate the tenant's lease because this is a leasing violation. While legal to smoke cannabis in Massachusetts, this is supposed to be a smoke-free building. Bottomline: Be prepared for strong cannabis smoke permeating your apartment on a routine basis. If that's not a problem for you, it's a good apartment complex with nice amenities. read more

Omg. He's absolutely the most detailed orientated, charming, sweet, funny, thoughtful man you'll meet!!! Both of these men are GEMS you'll see for yourself! And maintance are awesome!! I have been living in third square for a year and I will move out for relocation, while I am searching for other communities, I just feel that third square is so good compared to others especially the service here. From the beginning for touring, Michael has showed us several apartments before we found our current unit. We have asked a lot of questions and has asked to see several units in the building and he was always glad to help. When we live here, I can feel that we are welcome to this big community. The lady in 303 remember our names once we lived in and every time I got home, she just welcomed us and could tell whether we have packages. She can also remember how many packages we have. She has been working in third square for 10 years and we really like her. Besides, the unit we are living is a corner unit, it is quite spacious and has a good view of the courtyard. It is quite quiet as well. During the weekend, you can see kids playing on the playground. The grilled place and the gym here are also awesome. Before we move out, the agents in the leasing office also helped us a lot. Ashleigh, Stephen, Marguerite and Kyle helped me a lot in searching for new apartment. They are all very responsive. They gave us very useful suggestions. I really appreciated their work and their patience. If you want to find an apartment like home, I think third square should be a good choice. read more

Tons of issues with this building. Maintenance is slow and they do not seem thrilled to be here - it took them 4 visits over the span of 5 weeks to complete very basic repairs. All of my encounters with maintenance staff were uncomfortable and awkward. They made it seem like such an inconvenience to them that they had to keep coming back - maybe they should have done it right the first time. Neighbors are incredibly loud, often having 20+ people in their unit on weekends, blaring loud music until 2am and keeping their door cracked open. I can even hear them with my own television/music on. Their guests come and go with absolutely no consideration of how loud they are being in the halls. Also tons of smoking in elevators and in the stairwells (this is supposed to be a smoke-free building!!), resulting in my entire unit reeking of cannabis, which I do not want to be breathing in, and there are children in this building too! Second hand smoke inhalation is no joke. I've had to open my windows (while it is sub 30 degrees out), to air out my unit due to how strong it has been. Multiple complaints have been made on this issue over the months and nothing has yet to be done. Management has not been helpful in any these situations. Residents pay A LOT of money to live here - I am shocked that this is the experience I have had so far. read more

Overall a mediocre place to live, but with sharply increasing rents at renewal time (greater than 10%), I expect higher quality across the board. Multiple pieces of equipment in the gym have been broken for months without repair. There are no rules for the courtyard/grill usage, so a few select residents monopolize the grills on the weekends for several hours at a time. Some hallways smell like smoke from residents, and the response is a monthly email remainder not to smoke inside the building. Finally, the amenities such as community rooms are quite expensive (~$250 to rent for use), definitely is not described that way during the initial tour, I had events are other venues for comparable prices to avoid giving Third Square more of my business. Finacial; Overpriced. Rent increase 7% per year. Pay for facilities that are not available (pool closed several times a month). Extra cost for "facility fee" $500 in 2nd month. Pay for cleaning fee at move in and again at move out. Structure: Rust water drips on cars in winter, cannot be removed without detailing by professionals with buff. You feel every bus and truck that drives by as a rumble. Same for every washer spin cycle your neighbors run. Clip clop of upstairs neighbors walking in shoes, elephant thuds when their child and nanny are active. Breach of privacy: a true story: I rented from Equity Residential. They called me at work on day and told me maintenance had to come is same day to assess for window leaks. I stayed I was not comfortable because I had paperwork out. The assured me it would be just 15 min to check. When I came home 8 hours later all the shades were open, furniture was moved, and all the thermostats had been set to 68o. I looked at the video from the home monitoring system and was shocked to see someone I did not know, in a hatdhat and vest, in the apartment for 2 hours, videotaping the interior, relaxing on my furniture, hatdhat on food prep surfaces, charging his personal cell phone, and turning the thermostats down to cool off. The building manager did not return my calls and emails. He sent the office staff to call me and tell me no photography was done. When I responded that I have video evidence to the contrary, he had his staff send me 2 still shots that are close ups of window frames - not the panoramic video that was clearly captured in the LR/DR/Kitchen. I was going to wait until we moved out to write this review but, after walking into to see an empty darken concierge desk on a Saturday night, enough is enough. The 303 building was marketed to us as the upgraded building in the complex, with stainless steel appliances, upgraded fixtures, gas stove, etc. Do not fall for that, and do not pay the extra money. The concierge isn't 24 hours, and half of the time we go down there, no one is staffing the desk. I have walked down a few times, and my deliveries were sitting in the lobby for anyone to take. Paying extra for living at 303 Third St. is a waste, you can pay that rate at other buildings in the area with 24-hour service. I was at the concierge desk last night to purchase a one-day parking pass in the garage and was told that I had to go to the main desk in the other building. Enter Christian, sorry to bother you and ask for a parking pass to which the company is making additional money on. This is the second time in 3 weeks that he was annoyed that he had to do his job. A few weeks ago, I came in around midnight asking to purchase a pass, and he was very rude and said 'just park on the street, it is free until 8 am.' Thanks dude, however, there is an event tomorrow and no parking. Do not expect to get timely responses from the staff. Our dryer was sporadically not working for over two months, and every time they came it just happened to work. Finally, I wrote an email to the Sr. leasing manager Britanny Wells, to which we got the standard 3-4 day later response. I was told they could come between their normal business hours to look at it again. However, my husband and I work and cannot just wait around for them to come. Finally, I went down to the concierge to complain, and the gentleman was so nice and informed me there is a laundry room, that is basically hidden behind the concierge desk, that they often let tenants use vacated units, and that maintenance works half days on Saturday. For 2 months we were having issues, and no one in the office thought to tell us any of these things? It wasn't until I went down to complain that we resolved this dryer issue. Our stove is broken, but since we are breaking our lease and moving out two weeks, why even bother to try and coordinate them coming to get it fixed. We initially picked this building because they allowed three pets, and there is a dog run on the property. The dog run is used by almost everyone in the neighborhood and is not exclusive to the building. We mention putting a fab on it, so maybe one day that will happen. I mean they put fabs on the grills in the courtyard. Speaking of the courtyard, the new patio furniture is vinyl which makes no sense and you can't even sit on it without burning your skin off. Also, don't store your bike in the garage, there is no ventilation, and your bike will be dirty and covered with soot and exhaust in a day. The reason we picked this building was because during the intial tour Steven was amazing, and made us feel like it was a community. There have been maybe 5 community events, which I believe are thrown together last minute as we usually only find out about them with 2-3 days notice. Steven was the only saving grace to Third Square Apartments, as he responded to our emails quickly, and always resolved any issues we had, i.e, if you live in 303 Third Street and have AT&T don't expect to have cell service in your unit. Stephen got us a cell phone booster for our window within a week. There are far better properties in the area that are dog-friendly, I wished we would have moved to Axiom or Watermark instead. The last note I have is comically, but talks to how much the staff just doesn't care. I joked when moving in 5 months ago about this yogurt bottle that was left in the stairwell...that yogurt bottle is still there today. read more

I moved here really trying very very hard to like the apartment and community more than i do now, but there are a number of recurring issues that have proved to be bothersome. That is not to say though that credit should be taken away for where it is due. Pluses -Relatively new apartment community among the few there are in cambridge -The concierge spencer who is particularly on top of all the assignments that a lot of times are definitely very overwhelming -Convenient location -Though it isn't outfitted with the best, greatest and most impressive amenities, the community does provide a wide range of amenities that have almost become necessities Minuses -You have to be willing to pay for the pros, and maybe a little extra too. I definitely found better value in communities elsewhere in and around boston/cambridge -Not very well staffed for the amount of tenants, and sometimes it shows. Every year rent went up drastically until it was finally non-viable to live here anymore. 6 months post move-out, our apartment is still not rented and is currently advertised at price even lower than when we signed up originally (lol!) This is what happens when greed takes the helm. Pushing out good tenants who had lived there for 3+ years by hoping that they'll tolerate 10% rent hikes year over year. Pros: concierge staff is awesome, we liked the 24 hr maintenance staff for peace of mind if anything went wrong. The gym isn't anything special, but sufficient. It gets crowded from the post work rush, but otherwise never had a problem getting a treadmill or lifting weights. The underground parking was awesome in the winter. We genuinely really enjoyed living there (for 2 years) and would probably move back if we were ever again in Boston/Cambridge. You can't beat the location for proximity to train/MIT/local tech and Kendall Sq has become way more family/neighborhood oriented with the influx of restaurants, shops, and coffee houses. Cons: your rent will spike about 20% every year. The end of the first year it jacked up 18% but we realized we could move to a better unit for cheaper so we did. We relocated back to the West coast at the end of the 2nd year lease, but looked up the rate just to see..... rent would have been up 24%. The folks in the leasing office seem to just be more retail type of role showing units, they don't have any say/power and just fill the apartments so negotiations happen through "corporate." In the end - location/amenities outweighed the price gouging for us but it would be important to know if you're looking for a place for longer than a year or two. read more

I am so sad to be able to confirm the rent increase. I went in for a 6 month lease and my renewal "offer" is 20% more than what I used to pay. I understand the market, but it just seems Third Square is not interested in you staying for the long term. As for the pros, the building is kept clean, not too much noise, concierge is super friendly and organizes lots of fun events. The community is really friendly, and the patio is lovely. I'm still deciding if I should stay for another year. I like how it is located near my office, but if it keeps going up by 20% each year, then I'll definitely have to say goodbye. read more

We stayed at Third Square for a year from June 2017 to May 2018, and my husband and I can safely say it was the best experience we have ever had with an apartment community. The leasing office staff, especially Bree and Stephen, have been such an awesome support for us, answering our questions promptly, and assisting us right down to the smallest detail. The maintenance team are friendly, prompt and go the extra mile. Our maintenance service requests have always been responded to within one working day - and always with a smile on their face - never making us feel like it is a chore or mundane task to them. And I cannot say enough of the concierge team. They were first our friends, and now we remember them as family. Coming home from a long, tough or even bitterly cold day, they always welcomed us warmly with a cheery "Hello!" and a wide smile on their face. During the holiday season, they had piles and piles of packages to sort through, and I saw them sometimes having to even deal with unreasonable requests from residents, but they never failed to treat everyone with warmth, respect, and always a smile on their face. I would especially like to thank Kyle, and Christian, for being such a great help to us. And seriously, what a great help it was to be able to just "return" items at the concierge desk as a USPS and UPS pick up point - especially for a studying mom of two young children with little time go out to shop, or drop off returns. Apart from all of the above, the team would organize fun events for residents e.g. egg hunts, movie nights, grill events, and even surprise us with breakfast sometimes (delicious donuts, fresh fruit and coffee)! Kyle would come back to Third Square during the weekends to organize such events, or show up extra early for work to set up and plan special surprises. He even set up a gift-wrap station over the holiday season! I was completely blown away by the effort, dedication and initiative of the people I met during our year here. Equity residential must be a great company, or the Third Square management must be an exceptional bunch, for them to attract such extraordinary people with such big hearts. Our kids miss playing in the courtyard and will never forget building their first snowman there. We miss just being able to walk 4 mins to the T station and be 2 stops away from Downtown Boston. We miss the our Third Square family. I am so thankful for our year in Third Square and we were so sad we couldn't stay for longer as we were moving to another country for work. I would highly recommend (three of our friends moved in after our referral!) this apartment community to anyone looking for not just a place to stay, but a home to come back to. read more

Pros: A couple of the front desk people--such as Casimir (the woman on the weekend is awful and some at night do nothing to keep the noise, smoking, and filth at bay). The maintenance staff members are hardworking but seem not to get the resources they need to do a good job. Cons: Filthy hallway carpeting (filthy when I moved in and worse when I moved out, despite promises to replace disgusting carpeting); filthy pool; rats in the courtyard; smoking in violation of building rules that goes unattended by management office; CONDESCENDING MANAGEMENT OFFICE; exercise equipment, including TV and sound system, is routinely broken and overall junky; smelly and filthy trash rooms; no control over tenants who violate rules; thin walls; truly disgusting apartment carpeting; tenants talking loudly and smoking all night long into the wee hours (4:30am) in the common courtyard and nothing is ever done about it; renewal pricing is outrageous.... Lived here for more than a year. Great concierge staff. Very friendly and helpful rental office. Maintenance crew is very responsive. They get a five-star for the people. Also excellent location for attending school at MIT or work near Kendall Square. However, razor thin walls and front doors makes the place almost unbearable.. You will hear the banging of medicine cabinets and closets all day long and the vents on the roof during the summer, not to mention the conversations of your neighbors. Inefficient bathroom vent systems so hope not to get a smoker as your neighbor (up, down or sideways). They are also charging a premium for being close to MIT so prepare for the steep rental prices. (Of course I paid the price for this convenience.) No grocery store, drug store, or any other convenience shops anywhere nearby. However, there's always the T one block away which was great. Finally, there are no storage units. Lots of pros and cons... I give a 3-star. read more

This is my response to the Equity Residential. Through out years, you have pretty much the same complains regarding the same issues. If you do value those feedbacks, they should not be issues happen again and again. After dealing with your office, all I can say is...you people say one thing on surface and do it another way in practice. Fool me once, shame on me. Fool me twice, ...not happening. We both know Equity Residential is under a class action lawsuit for treating their tenants unfairly by illegally charging amenity fee in Massachusetts. I will not deal with shady company like yours again. read more

While the concierge staff is lovely and the location is convenient, avoid this place like the plague if you value your money at all. If you do plan on living here, expect your rent to be increased at least 17+% every year (often to rates that are above what they're trying to charge new tenants!). Additionally, the common areas, like the gyms, are sometimes poorly maintained with broken equipment left unfixed for multiple months and the smell of trash radiating the halls. Also, don't rent an apartment here if you plan on doing any baking as the ovens work very poorly and are so loud you can barely carry on a conversation when it's "on". The washer and dryers are a source of concern as well as whoever designed the space forgot to engineer a way to vent the dryer. If I could give this place negative stars, I would. read more

I lived here for 2 years and moved out as I was relocating. The apartment was nice and nicely finished off. The staff were pleasant to work with - especially the concierge staff, and especially Casimir. The maintenance staff were responsive and worked with me to deal with the few things that came up. My main concern was the high renewal pricing as described previously. The renewal pricing may be market for the time of year offered, but may not reflect relative market price for the time of year when the lease actually expires. To their credit, they did discuss pricing options when I inquired about potential renewal close to my vacate date. read more

I've lived here for the better part of a year now, and things have been great for the most part. People just like to complain. You guys live in a luxury apartment in Kendall Square with full staff and are complaining about rent?? Why did you make that decision then? You get a free pool and TWO gyms and complain about them? They are fine. You complain about common rooms being used? Honestly. COMMON rooms. "rats" in the huge, free, private garden? They are bunnies. LITERALLY. Cute fluffy bunnies everywhere. It's adorable. The pool isn't "dirty" as somebody said. I use it very often. At least once a week. Wait a minute wait a minute. There is a frickin' POOL. for FREE. and you complain??? There are also changing rooms fully equipped with showers, benches and lockers. Are you guys going to complain that there are no free moisturizers and pool towels? And then complain about the rent? The doormen are great. The service people are exceptional. Clogged drain? Write a ticket online and they'll fix the problem in a day, for free. read more

Place is fine until your lease is up and it is time to renew. Their rent increase is 9%. There are apartments on my floor (ie the same 1 bedroom) available at $400 less per month. They must think their tenants are stupid. read more

I've lived here for the past 7 months and really don't have any complaints. I work nearby and the short commute is great. My apartment has had a few problems that would pop up anywhere (slow draining shower) and all requests for service have been dealt with in 24 hours or less. The staff is really friendly and I honestly can't think of anything that I would change, besides the high price - which is on par for Kendall. read more

Wow I can't believe all the negative reviews. I just started using yelp really and decided to take a peak at my building an I have to say I am pretty shocked. First off the staff at third square and I mean the leasing office have never not fixed a problem when you actually bring it to their attention. Second the concierge is always going the distance to make sure people are happy. If you have an issue bring it up to the head concierge guy Casmir. Also for the people that complain about it costs a lot well HELLO you live in Boston at an upper scale property as well!!!! I have lived in many apartments and quiet honestly equity properties are perfect. Always maintained at a great level that is perfect for someone looking for QUALITY. These type of buildings cost a premium for a reason they are truly nice to live in. read more

We have lived at 3rd Square for 2 years. It was with a heavy heart that we left, but the beach was calling! The building is beautifully maintained & well constructed. Having sold our home in the 'burbs, and making the leap to the city, we were concerned about feeling like we were living in a hotel. From the moment we arrived, 3rd Sq felt like home. There is an overwhelming sense of home & community there, due in most part by Brittany in the leasing office; and Kyle, Amir, and Loretta the concierge staff. They are each amazing with their knowledge, professionalism, friendliness, and can-do attitude. They are shining gems! We lived there for 2 years, and have literally no complaints. The building is beautiful & the staff superb. If we tire of the beach life, we will be back! read more

We lived at Third Square for 1 year and it really was a wonderful experience. All staff is friendly and helpful (especially Lauretta and Stephen they are the best). The property is very clean quiet and well maintained in a fantastic location. I am giving 4 stars instead of 5 because of a service request that was never completed the last week we resided there. We had followed up multiple times with multiple people but there was no response and no resolution. (Service requests were usually handled very quickly so this was very surprising) All in all though Third Square was a wonderful place to live and if we did not move abroad we would have stayed. read more
