Late night, after a long drive, where to eat on a sunday night? MG was just down the street, so we drove by to check it out. Quite a bit of take out/delivery business, but we ordered a chirashi don to share in our room. It was perfect to split! Soup was tasty but unfortunately just warm. Fish was tasty and plentiful; chirashi often has the odd shaped pieces, which is fine with me, and I love the extra rice. We asked for Saba instead of tuna, and they accommodated us. Pricing is solid and honestly I have no issue with it for the quality and amount of sushi I get. I usually get the sushi deluxe box, because I like getting a variety of nigiri. There's usually one nigiri that I don't super like but that's because I'm usually someone that just likes salmon. The rice isn't densely packed like some other places and the fish is actually pprreetttyyyy darn good. Salmon nigiri is really good. Spicy tuna roll is so good. The maki rolls I got in the combo was basic but like...that's what a maki roll is. Maybe it's cause we got it delivered but who knows. My roommate and I decided to Uber Eats sushi for dinner since we were both craving it. We both got two rolls each, my roommate getting 2 orange blossoms, and for me a 49ers and Santa Cruz roll. They packaged them individually just as we asked and came labeled as well. The 49ers roll wasnt really traditional and had spicy tuna and no lemons in sight, but was still pretty tasty. The Santa Cruz roll was absolutely delicious. The mango pairs really nicely with the salmon + crab and added a nice sweetness. My roommate let me try her orange blossom roll which I'll definitely get next time because it ended up being my favorite! If you love salmon I definitely recommend ordering that. The wasabi comes in little sachets for connivence and the ginger was good. This place is now gonna be my go to for sushi in Santa Cruz. It's definitely not omakase quality but not safeway quality either. The delivery and preparation was extremely quick too! Do not order through EatStreet or any other online app and expect to pick up your order. They do not look at computer orders, so preparation will not start until you are there for pickup. This has happened twice. Even though we had to wait an extra 20 minutes, and we had already included a generous tip for the online order, they did not do the slightest thing to make up for their mistake. When we decided to buy some sake and the total was $7.10, they would not take $7 cash, and insisted that we had to come up with ten cents or receive 90 cents change. When we walked in there was one other table 2 cute ladies, sitting there having their lunch we sat down on beyond could use some help paper wallpaper on the wall is peeling off and all supplies are out for us all to see our first entrée shows up and it to go containers. All the rest of food comes out to go containers. If no idea what you're getting presentations horrible and our tea was in plastic containers we had to ask for cups we asked for plates he handed us a paper plate. They have little paper cups for your soy sauce and wasabi was more or less for $100 disappointed all the way around sushi was fresh but not worth what we got. Possibly if you were ordering to go food and you had no idea what we were going to experience it would make it better. I was terribly disappointed. First time having sushi in Santa Cruz. We ordered through DoorDash. I have to start by saying that the presentation of the sushi was excellent. I highly recommend the rolls over their sashimi. We ordered the cherry blossom and the Philadelphia sun. I don't normally like deep fried rolls however the Philadelphia had the perfect balance. The Cherry Blossom roll had great but didn't appear to be as fresh. Now when it came the sashimi combo, I was very disappointed in the quality of the fish. I wouldn't recommend it at all. The tuna tasted like it had been frozen. The salmon wasn't as bad, but the cut was too thick for the for flavor, almost as if it wasn't fresh. The white fish was the exception for this appetizer. It was perfectly cut and tasted like it was higher quality. "Fresh and light". We additionally ordered, the Maguro (blue fin tuna) & Hokkigai (sea arctic clam) Sushi a la carte (Nigiri). I was very very very disappointed in their Maguro. The consistency of the fish tasted like ham or like salami. We had it "seared" however it seemed as though it might have been overcooked. It's such a shame because so many local fish markets around sell this fish fresh daily. For the clam... it felt as though I was chewing on it forever. The consistency was completely off. So, I'm conclusion. I would try their rolls first before having any sashimi or nigiri. I'm not quite sure if it's because we ordered on a day the fish wasn't as fresh. This was our first experience here and I hope to try this place one more time before making a "final" opinion. read more

BE CAREFUL EATING HERE!!! I just picked up a GrubHub order from this sushi restaurant and the man making sushi was eating a bagel while making food. At first I just glanced at him and noticed he was chewing while making food and thought it was gross but didn't make a big deal of it until I watch him pick up a bagel sitting on the same counter he is making food take a bite and set the bagel back down!! I normally wouldn't waste my time leaving a review but I would want to know if I were the one eating from this restaurant. I got the order and asked him and the other woman working there how they would feel if they ate at a place and that was done to them.
