Brought my best friend here tonight for his birthday, we have tried vegan sushi restaurants in San Francisco, San Diego and La. This was by far the best, the flavors were complex all went together so well. We ordered the Vegan omakase, the Valerian roll and the 101 east roll. All surpassed our expectations. Tavo was an excellent server and gave us a lot of great recommendations. They also have quality kava mocktails, was so impressed with their kava drink highly recommend ordering the "malinche" drink
Being Hapa (Japanese and Spanish) and being allergic to monosodium glutamate has to be the biggest oxymoron! I was so ecstatic as I found out all the sauces at this particular restaurant are made vegan and gluten-free, and do not contain any monosodium glutamate/MSG!! Each sauce had a unique flavor and texture!! I really liked the mango habanero sauce as well as the Yuzu citrus sauce, and there was another sauce we had, but I can't remember the unique name! But each roll had a unique sauce that was very complementary of the fish as well as the other ingredients within the roll itself! We loved all three of the dishes we got, and there was a larger party that came in after us sitting at that great table in the middle of the room, the one server was able to get all of our orders as well as another party seated at the window section in a timely matter! I'm not too sure how many chefs were in the back, but we got our food in a reasonable amount of time as well! I honestly loved all their plants and decor, there was something to look at, and it was very personable and had a warm home like feeling in the restaurant itself! I will definitely be back here again!! I'm so happy my girl found this place!! I will definitely be here again!!
Really enjoyed this place! We got the android roll, cali roll and the chefs special deal which was so worth it! The android was really unique and satisfied us completely and the chefs special came with a miso soup, 4 sashimi, and chefs roll of choice. The price was reasonable, chefs special was a good deal. The shop is super cute, lots of decorations and places to sit and the service was very attentive and kind. Fish was very fresh! I would definitely go back here again.
Tried The Buzz Sushi and it did not disappoint. The sushi was excellent and incredibly fresh. Our top two favorites were the Caribbean Roll and the Santa Cruz Roll--both were standout and full of flavor. We also loved their salad--it had just the right amount of dressing, nice and saucy exactly how we like it. Service was great and very attentive, which made the experience even better. We also noticed they offer a happy hour menu, which is always a plus. The restaurant itself was very clean and well kept, usually a great sign of how the rest of the operation is run. The decor was super cute and welcoming. We'll definitely be coming back whenever we're in the area and can't wait to try more of their menu.
Food was good and tasty. Delicious ramen. Service was good. The price was a bit much for portions and for the area. There are unhoused people all over the place and to get dinner it's over 100$.. overall it was good. Seems like a hard working talented owner in an a neighborhood that needs some much needed infrastructure and public support..
I can't speak to the ambiance of the restaurant itself, because I tried this at the Santa Cruz vegfest. However, I'll tell you the things I did like. The people who work there seem nice and knowledgeable. I like that the menu has vegan options. I like that you get an edible flour with your roll. And I like that they have vegan ice cream. I do wonder about cross-contamination at their restaurant and if they have separate workstations for fish versus vegan items.
Best GLUTEN FREE sushi I've ever had! Sushi is one of my favorite go-to meals when out of the house & Buzz did not disappoint. I took a picture of the menu so everyone can see all the options they have! I'm gluten and dairy free and had more options here than I have ever had a 30+ other places who say they accommodate allergies. They have vegan, vegetarian, gluten free & good quality "norm" rolls. First time I've had unagi or any sauce on my rolls. I highly recommend the Capsule corp (baked roll, sub'd for vegan cream cheese which is made from fermented garlic) & the android 18! I also tried 2 rolls the owner suggested and my husband like the burrito roll since it was in between a hand roll and a regular roll. Easy for him to devour. Vibes: reggae meets hipster Environment: clean with handful of handcrafted tables, unagi and soy sauce for home, mushroom items for the month of January.. Accessibility: right across the street from parking garage along with being down the street from a main drag of shops; we over indulge and had to walk it off. We will be back! Such a cute little spot. Some Seating inside and a few tables outside. Reasonably priced and sized sushi. Nothing too crazy big which I like. We ate in and it was pleasant. My daughter enjoyed herself. To-go orders look easy as well. Will definitely be back
Absolutely delicious! My partner and I have been on the hunt for some creative fishless sushi, and this place did not disappoint. Their vegan menu had extensive options and everything we tried was delicious. Highly recommend!
Looked up this place after driving by it, and knew I had to try it. It is super cute with some available seating, and to go items available too. We were immediately greeted and provided with some menus. We tried their edamame, miso soup, California roll, and Philadelphia roll. Everything was delicious! I definitely recommend and will be going back!
I only tried the California Roll - very disappointing. The service was good and it was nicely decorated, cute and fun. The rice was undercooked, a little hard, there was barely a sliver of avocado, the soy sauce was average, and the ginger left much to be desired... dry and tastes off. :/

Wifey and I decided to try a new-to-us place in Santa Cruz for a nice Easter meal. We arrived just as they opened, and we were immediately greeted with a friendly smile and welcomed to come in and sit anywhere we liked. The music was on point, and the vibe was super chill. My wife is vegan , and I am pescatarian, and let me say - the menu was abundant with options for both! While we wanted to try everything, we knew we had to pick a few items and save options to try for our next visit. The food was phenomenal! It was clear the chef took his time to craft each roll with texture, flavor, and presentation, all with equal importance. Octavio was our server, and he was attentive, hospitable, and knowledgeable, and even weighed in on helping us make decisions for what to order. Ahhh, you know when a place is solidified in your memory as being absolutely delicious, and then you go back and have to question whether you were just seeing it through rose-colored lenses? This visit felt like I was being disillusioned. The kama was pretty tasty, and the Twin Salmon roll was also good. The texture of the Twin Salmon made it a solid, well-rounded choice. I remember loving Trunks, but it just didn't hit the same this time. The main things that killed it for me was the plates being dirty. We had to ask for new ones, and the fungus gnats! Our mistake for sitting next to the plant, but i hate fungus gnats. They were flying around our food, one flew onto the sushi, and I couldn't get it off. It just killed the whole experience for me. read more

The slight Dragon Ball Z theme was awesome as a fan of the series. They had a couple small figurines from DBZ and had some menu items named after things from DBZ. There was a large square central table that had multiple groups of people able to sit there or could accommodate one larger party. After that it was a few tables with 2 seats each. There are also a couple tables outside. ***Side note for people with small children: they do not have high chairs. Pricing was reasonable as compared to other sushi restaurants, and the menu at the Buzz sounded the most interesting (to me). And I did enjoy the uniqueness of their menu. The Android 18 Roll had a stronger lemon taste than I was expecting. It was a little too much lemon for my liking, but my wife found it very refreshing. The Twin Salmon Roll had some nice crunch with the nuts in it which gave it good texture. I think from both rolls I wanted a bit more depth of flavor. The menu made everything seem like there was so much going on, and the flavor wasn't bad at all, I think I just had higher expectations based on how interesting the menu sounded. Still overall a good meal, and I'd be willing to come back to try more things out. read more

Needed a quick afternoon snack and ordered a couple rolls, gyoza, and miso soup. The presentation was great but the food was bland. The sushi rice was just plain rice so everything tasted like nothing. They also only provided 2 packets of soy sauce for 3 rolls and an order of gyoza. read more

This is by far the best sushi in Santa Cruz it taste so fresh and the presentation is amazing. Service was quick. My favorite part is the decorations of dragon ball Z . I will be coming back very soon. read more

We drove in from Monterey and we're craving sushi. I was intrigued that this place had vegan and fish options as my fiance and I like vegan food. However the rolls looked so tasty he opted for the Caribbean roll and I got the Android 18 roll. I really love the twist on sushi that the buzz sushi takes. The owner was so friendly, greeted us and took our order and checked on us and was very kind. They even offer alcohol-free beer which we enjoyed a Corona NA. I wish I lived closer because this would be one of my weekly staples. but anytime I come back in to Santa Cruz I'll definitely be stopping by! read more

Vegan review: super bland, the tempeh is just Trader Joe's tempeh out of the packaging. No seasoning, no breaking it apart, nothing. Same with the tofu is just plain tofu, everything was just groceries out of their packaging. Even the salad was just spring mix in a box! Maybe their traditional sushi is better. read more

Rarely do you see sushi places that offer more than one or two vegetarian rolls but this place has way more than that with plenty to offer for vegetarians and non-vegetarians. I was pleased to see all the variety and creative rolls and appetizers on the menu. When the food came out, I was surprised by the beautiful presentation and the taste of their delicious sushi rolls and poke nachos! The owner is very nice too! Will return! read more

This place is like whoa for a vegan- I've never seen a sushi place offer vegan sushi and thoroughly enjoyed trying it for the 1st time at Buzz! We got the vegan gyoza & poke nachos to start. Both are good but I thought the poke was more unique. For our rolls, we did 3: Green Cali, Hawaii, and sweet baby. All were good but green Cali and sweet baby had the most interesting flavors since they had the most ingredients.
