Yet, that's what my wife has been doing recently since she was introduced to this small shop by a friend of hers who lives in the area. They apparently use a much more benign set of chemicals for various hair treatments that don't damage the hair as much. I don't really know much about it, or attest to it personally, but I do have to admit my wife's hair smells much better after a perm. She says it's more expensive that her old hair salon back in Philadelphia, but definitely worth the additional time and cost. Oh, well....

My appointment was with Michelle, and I liked that she was attentive when cutting and coloring my hair. I didn't feel it was rushed (if you want a quick cut this might not be what you're looking for). I regret not bringing a book to read!.. I was there for 2.5 hours due to the coloring process, as they had to remove the dyed color from half my hair before coloring my whole head. When my back started to ache from sitting, Michelle noticed and brought a cushion to prop behind my back! The hair wash was gentle and the brief scalp massage felt greattt. There are hair salons where my neck feels strained a minute into the hairwash. No neck pain here! The salon is spacious. There were two other customers, and we were spread out to different areas of the salon. Throughout my appointment(color, cut, wash, blowdry), not once was I asked to remove my mask. The staff always had their masks on too. I plan to come back to Juun Hair. The atmosphere was very comfortable and pleasant.

Price was super good for all of the services. THE PERM: Be forewarned, they will tell you which type of perm you should do. For me, since my hair is fine, they advised a regular perm. They also advised that I do a deep conditioning treatment beforehand, which I agreed to. That took an extra 20 minutes or so before the perm, and they gave me 5 weeks of additional little packets to use each week. The whole process was performed by the main stylist who mainly only spoke Korean (and needed a translator at times) and her assistant. The stylist also gave me a little hair trim before the perm. Then the perm itself took about 2 hours, including washing and drying my hair afterwards. Overall I was in the salon about 3 hours. Now, 2 weeks out from the perm, I can say it's equal to much higher priced perms that I've gotten in the past. Overall I am super happy with the results. I think in total, the price was around $180 for the perm and the conditioning treatment. I tipped each of the two ladies $20 and so the total was $220.

Street vendors walk in to sell stuff to patrons while you are getting hair color. Sometimes male and sometimes female. Local security guards will walk in and interrupt her while she is attending to women patrons. I find it extremely weird and unsafe. And many other patrons have expressed similar sentiments. I am told they have to earn their living so she allows them to walk around bugging her customers. This is unacceptable. Next door smoke shops and bar are not an ideal place for a hair salon to be nestled in. In addition, a male barber shop inside her salon is also a very awkward arrangement. Some women customers have complained about foul language coming out loud and clear while they are getting hair treatment. Many young men visit this location - some are cops as well. Some women have complained these men start following them around. She does not have the sensitivity to understand what a salon environment should look like therefore has not cared to pay much attention to it nor plans to. Wishing her the best as I do not intend to revisit her location, it is not a salon. And hope she starts caring for her patrons' personal space and privacy. Not everyone feels comfortable to have local vendors walk in a women's salon and disrupt them.

I had mentioned all of my worries beforehand and insisted they did not use a high developer that may damage my hair. They had reassured me that they are professionals and if any, there may be some breakage. After the bleach was washed off, the stylist did not take me back to the chair to see the outcome but instead insisted he do the toner at the hair sink. After 2-10 min alarms went off, and the shampoo girl washed my hair, he came to see his work and then I hear him slightly gasped. He then proceeded to tell me that it was the shampooist's fault the color did not come out and said he would need to re-do the toner. When i got back to the seat i was horrified to see how white the bleach had made my hair. I asked what developer he used that my hair could be stripped so much in 1 session. He said he used a 20 volume but I've never seen any 20 developer strip that strong. Then he said it was a product he created. While they tried to dry my hair i saw that handfuls of hair just falling off. I pointed it out to him and started freaking out, telling him he had melted my hair. He started to come up with excuses saying it's not burnt and that once the color goes in it'll be healther and that it was a ph balance miscalculation on his part. He tgen asked for me to trust him and see the final outcome. Then he proceeded to put in the toner on the already chemically damaged hair saying he knows what he's doing and to give him a chance and i would like the final outcome. Stupid me gave him the chance. And NOPE!! The color was not at all what a wanted and wasn't even. It was botched and he then finally apologized. I mean he was a nice guy.. just wasn't a color professional as he claimed on the phone when i originally made the appointment He had said he was the best colorist there. So before he could even finish drying my hair i decided to leave because i knew the heat from drying my hair would make it worse. Once i got home my hair started to break off 1.5 inches from my scalp and it had filled up a gallon size ziploc. I quickly washed my hair to try to remove any remaining chemicals in my hair. I did not blow dry my hair and the next morning once my hair was dry it felt like a barbie doll. That's bad. The owner/head stylist decided to call me the next day to "find out" what happened and said she was away and she was going to call me the next day to set something up. That next day is today and she hadn't called so I called the salon and guess what.. they didn't pick up. I waited 10 minutes to see if they would call back but they didn't, so I called them with a different number and voila.. someone answers. How could they call themselves professionals? Trust me and stay away. Btw. they had also quoted me $200-$250 and then proceeded to charge me $400 for this botched work.

I came in for a perm. I have straight Asian hair, so I reached out via text beforehand to ask if a perm would even work for me. They responded quickly and asked for photos of my hair and what I was looking for. I later found out I was speaking with the owner. When I arrived, the salon itself is simple and locally owned. No frills, but that does not matter to me as long as the service is good and it absolutely was. I ended up being there for about 6 hours. I know that sounds like a lot, but hear me out. The level of care and attention they put into their work was unmatched. They spent the first hour doing tests to make sure my hair could handle the perm. The original estimate was around 3 hours, but they were extremely thorough. At the end of the first round, the owner looked at my hair and said she was not satisfied because it was not as wavy as my inspiration photos. She asked if I had time to redo it. That alone would make me come back. Most places would have just charged me and sent me on my way. They did a second and third round to get it right. Throughout the entire appointment, the staff was incredible. I work in the service industry, so I pay attention to hospitality, and they nailed it. Everyone was kind, attentive, and constantly checking in. They apologized for the time, offered me water, asked if I needed a break, and made sure I was comfortable the entire time. The salon closed at 7 and I did not leave until around 7:45. Not once did they rush me or cut corners. They stayed focused on making sure my hair came out right. You can tell they have a loyal customer base. People were coming in and out the whole time, and everyone seemed genuinely happy. I left with exactly what I wanted and great advice on how to maintain it. I highly recommend this place. Truly one of the best salon experiences I have had.
