Upon arriving, I was greeted by Soyoun. I consulted with her about dying my hair two shades lighter to medium brown. About 3 inches of my hair was virgin hair and the rest was dyed hair. I appreciate that Soyoun and Michelle took the time to genuinely listen to my concerns and communicate on what process would result in a uniform color throughout my hair so it looked natural. My appointment was with Michelle, and I liked that she was attentive when cutting and coloring my hair. I didn't feel it was rushed (if you want a quick cut this might not be what you're looking for). I regret not bringing a book to read!.. I was there for 2.5 hours due to the coloring process, as they had to remove the dyed color from half my hair before coloring my whole head. When my back started to ache from sitting, Michelle noticed and brought a cushion to prop behind my back! The hair wash was gentle and the brief scalp massage felt greattt. There are hair salons where my neck feels strained a minute into the hairwash. No neck pain here! The salon is spacious. There were two other customers, and we were spread out to different areas of the salon. Throughout my appointment(color, cut, wash, blowdry), not once was I asked to remove my mask. The staff always had their masks on too. I plan to come back to Juun Hair. The atmosphere was very comfortable and pleasant. read more

Got a perm from here, and I was super happy with the results. Also, I called a day in advance to make the appointment, and they were able to fit me in the next day. Price was super good for all of the services. THE PERM: Be forewarned, they will tell you which type of perm you should do. For me, since my hair is fine, they advised a regular perm. They also advised that I do a deep conditioning treatment beforehand, which I agreed to. That took an extra 20 minutes or so before the perm, and they gave me 5 weeks of additional little packets to use each week. The whole process was performed by the main stylist who mainly only spoke Korean (and needed a translator at times) and her assistant. The stylist also gave me a little hair trim before the perm. Then the perm itself took about 2 hours, including washing and drying my hair afterwards. Overall I was in the salon about 3 hours. Now, 2 weeks out from the perm, I can say it's equal to much higher priced perms that I've gotten in the past. Overall I am super happy with the results. I think in total, the price was around $180 for the perm and the conditioning treatment. I tipped each of the two ladies $20 and so the total was $220. read more

Do not come here to do any type of highlights or balayage or bleaching. They don't know what they're doing and they cross their fingers hoping it comes out okay. They were about to charge me $380 before tip for this (pic included) this was supposed to be a balayage. Damaged my virgin hair and I will NOT come back. While I was there, she shaved off a mans sideburns on one side and was making excuses for it saying he didn't have hair there to begin with. Just super unprofessional service. My first time at this salon and I am in love! I saw this salon through yelp and I had to try it out. The hair stylist, Michelle, captured exaclty what I wanted. I showed her a picture from Pinterest and it was what I wanted. The owner, Su, also helped out with giving me knowledgeable advice on what to get and to expect. My first experience with Michelle wasn't the best. I went on a super busy Saturday and she was probably juggling 3 customers, so my cut/styling probably took her 10 minutes maximum. It wasn't bad though. I went back to her recently because I had dyed my hair light ash brown a few months ago, and preferred my original black hair, so Michelle dyed it a "natural black" (aka dark brown) and gave me a trim. I paid a total of $165 because the dye was $120, the cut was $45. I love the color and the trim. I stressed over and over again that I didn't want too much cut, and she definitely delivered exactly that. I told her I was going somewhere for work later that night, so she gave me a sleek, professional blowout. The biggest tip would be to go on a weekday during the daytime. And always make an appointment beforehand. They speak Korean, and their English does not seem to be too good, but the other customers in the shop were non-Koreans and they seemed to communicate just fine (and their hair looked great afterwards). Also, not sure if Kay is still working there but she was not the most talented of stylists IMO :( My husband got his hair cut a few times by her, but it left much to be desired. If you're looking for a good hair salon that gives you a great cut for a decent price, JUUN Hair fits the bill. Joy does a great job with my hair. Given the spiky texture of my head, I can see how it can be annoying for most hair stylists to handle the cut that I want. Somehow she always finds a way to get it to a point that I'm happy with the end result. The salon itself is very spacious, clean and they do a pretty good job of handling multiple customers in an efficient way. The folks here are also extremely friendly and do a nice job of handling last minute appointments as well, whenever possible. I do not recommend this business. The space looks nice, but that's about all this place has going for it. I came in showing a photo of a haircut I want to have. The hairstyle in the photo has layers and might require a perm. I mentioned to tge stylist that I'm willing to pay more, as long as the result looks good. She spent a total of 10-15 minutes, cut my hair on both sides, gave me some wax, charged me the full price, and sent me on my way. No layers, nothing. I ended up with a cheap knock-off version of the photo I showed. Honestly, she gave me a haircut I could've gotten at Supercuts and charged me that price of a premium place. I've been coming here for a year now. It's my go to place to get my Asian hair colored because they really know how to do it right. I highly recommend coming here if you are in Northern Jersey. It's reasonably-priced (way less expensive than Manhattan, obviously) and no matter what color you want, they know how to make it come out right. I know a lot of Manhattan places gets raving reviews for their celebrity colorists, but remember they may not know how to do Asian hair right if they don't deal with it on a daily basis. Would not recommend for men. Very limited English. two stars because the hair washing was nice. Hair drying for men was questionable. the top of my hair was dry, but my roots were still wet. Took nearly 10 minutes to dry my short haircut. shaved the sides of my hair very high and the back looks very uneven. She told me that she's not going to cut more on the one side that needed it. Ask for no undercut. ended up with an undercut. Cut my bangs carelessly and uneven. at the end of it all, she was doing not harm than good so I didn't even bother, paid, and left. the customer after me was telling her not to shave the sides of his head but she kept insisting. I'm sure this place is well suited for women, but for non-korean speaking men I wouldn't recommend. I'm not mad over my haircut, but I am disappointed. I have been coming year since my high school days. In my opinion, Juun is one of the best salons in Fort Lee, as I've tried them all. Definitely ask for SooHo Shim. He's by far the best and most talented person to cut my hair in my lifetime. I get the mens haircut from him and its quite clear that he knows exactly what he's doing. He's so good I'd honestly just tell him, "do whatever you want" because I know my cut is going to come out looking great. You can show him pictures of any styles you'd want to get and he would emulate it perfectly. He finishes the haircut extremely quickly too, at most it'd take 30 minutes. When SooHo wasn't working on a particular day, I would get my hair cut by the other stylists and they are great as well. Price may turn some people off, as it is $35 plus tip, but it is 100% worth it. You're not going to get this good of a quality haircut anywhere else. read more

I got a recommendation to Mr. Shim (SooHo Shim) to get my hair and my daughter's hair done from a few close friends of mine that has been his customer before. I wasn't expecting a lot but the results were fantastic! My daughter requested a Japanese straightening perm and I requested a haircut/trim. Unlike any hair dresser, he went through all the process making sure there were no hair damage, and the fact that he gave an extra care service, it was very sweet of him. The haircut was professionally done with style and the perm came out great! Usually the ends of my daughter's hair gets split ends after each perm however Mr. Shim took steps to prevent the damage and used a lot of hair products/extra time to replenish the hair. I would 100% recommended getting your hair done from Mr. Shim and its crazy how there aren't much reviews of him. Trust me. JUUN Hair Salon is now my go-to place to get a haircut or anything else that I need to treat my hair. I can't help but to leave feeling extremely pleased and satisfied with the overall results. Ever since I was growing up, I was always brought to these Korean hair salons and left with the weirdest undesirable haircuts. Disappointingly these Korean hair stylists felt the need to always neglect whatever hair style I wanted and ignored whatever I deemed would be nice on me. They would take their own personal style and style it on me and the results were always disastrous and extremely upsetting. However stumbling upon looking for a decent hair salon, I came into JUUN HAIR looking for Joy. She is by far the best of the best. This was my first time at this hair salon. My usual hair dresser is hard to get a hold of, so I've been searching around for other options. Made an appointment two days prior with Joy and as soon as I walked in, I was greeted by name. Amazing! I was directed to the hair washing area and was given a deep conditioning treatment while I waited. Joy was very helpful. She listened to what I wanted and also offered some suggestions that she thought would look nice. She also gave me tips on how to properly care for my hair and reminded me to go back every 3 months for a trim. Went in last minute as a walkin with a terrible bleach job and a worse cut. I've had experience with over damaging my hair with bleach and having it break off and expressed my concerns. In addition, I'm trying to grow a side shave out and need to be able to keep it covered as it grows. I keep meaning to review, and now I finally will. Found out about Juun via all the stellar reviews -- I'd been going to Shampoo Ave B in LES (a wonderful salon) but the prices plus trek from NJ was a bit expensive; needed to find a financially happier option. For $40 a cut, Juun is extremely fair. I basically wanted the same short borderline-pixie cut that I've had since Spring this year. Though everyone here is friendly, one thing I missed a bit was the bedside manner of a place like Shampoo Ave B: there's no real chatting and the hair washing is very quick and to-the-point. Maybe I'm drawing a generalization but I noticed that short hairstyles in an Asian salon are cut differently than in an American one. The first one I had from LES, was a lot choppier, with more layers, and looked more "rock" in my opinion. The one I had here opted for a sleeker interpretation, which I was on the fence about for a bit although I ultimately ended up liking (plus nobody I knew could tell the difference..). Joy, the main hairstylist here, left my right side longer and asymmetrical which was a nice touch. The second time I had my hair cut here, I walked away a little dissatisfied because it felt a bit too top-heavy. (For me, I feel like there is a dangerous line between an edgy pixie cut and well, a mom pixie cut.) I came back the next day and Joy layered and thinned the style out, no questions asked, and was very nice about it, which I really appreciated. I've had so many compliments on my hairstyle since getting it cut here -- a lady behind me in line at a bagel shop once tapped me just to say so, and I just had to tell her about Juun. I ended up not going to work last Monday and called in the AM for an appointment. They had availability for me and saw me right on time. Based on all the reviews, I asked the lady helping me if she was Joy, and indeed it was her. She was super nice and listened to what I wanted. My last hair stylist of over 10 years moved back to Korea and I've tried a few places on Broad Avenue, but neither really took the time to make sure I got what I wanted. Got a haircut here back in February and the total came out to $55! This is not including tip. With tip I paid $65. I was shocked at how much a haircut was here when other places charge 35-45. When I asked why it cost so much, they said it depended on the hair stylist. The person that cut my hair was a man and supposedly he charges more than other stylists in the same salon.
