I love Shuckin Shack! Tanya was my server again and she was great! She had to deal with a very mean DoorDash driver and she handled herself with grace! I had a shark attach drink which honestly wasn't that great. She gave me a sample of the cold crap dip and I do want to say- this is not good. Save yourself the order and don't get it. OK for my last review, I said that I wouldn't go back but I did! This time I had to crab legs and asked to have some old bay steamed with them and they were delicious. Had a craving for seafood and wanted to give this place a shot. There were highs and there were lows.. let's start on the positive side first: Positives: the nachos were very good.. not sure if it was a sauce or a cheese that brought the best flavor but we topped with shrimp and they were on point! Our server was so sweet and for a Thursday she was bartender and wait staff and handled herself so well.. smiled whole time and was very attentive. The place itself was very clean and I loved the decor too they also had gifts like tshirts with fun phrases. Ok now the negative: We ordered a steam pot.. the oysters were not very good . They were hard to own and they would have charged us $2 each oyster to open them. The crab legs were decent as were the shrimp that were peel and eat( really don't mind that part at all) All in all we weren't impressed with the menu and prob won't go back. The Shuckin' Shack Oyster Bar is a local enterprise that has recently begun franchising. The Jacksonville location just opened so we thought we would check it out. Located next to Lowe's Foods, it is a casual and cozy restaurant with a beach decor as you might expect. The menu has many options for seafood lovers and landlubbers alike. Raw bar features catch of the day oysters (ours were from Virginia) and you can get clams, shrimp, and oysters steamed or grilled. There's also a wide selection of sandwiches and salads. We had the calamari and a dozen and a half oysters on the half shell to start. Calamari was generously portioned and properly cooked, accompanied by a sweet chili sauce. I prefer them with an aioli or a cocktail sauce but the breading and texture of the calamari was perfect. The oysters were absolutely fresh and delicious although I have a bone to pick with the shucker over the amount of shell shards I found; also there was none of the delicious oyster liquor remaining within the shell. The restaurant provides an amazing assortment of sauces at the table so can create your own custom condiments if you like. We also tried the seared ahi tuna; it was tasty and nicely seared but a bit salt heavy on the rub. Main entrees included fish and chips and a lobster roll. Cod was lightly battered and fried and the fries were plentiful. Lobster roll was unremarkable but okay. I prefer the rolls from Joe Loves Lobster Rolls. The hushpuppies on the side were somewhat dark when they arrived and I thought they might have been burned but after tasting them they seemed just fine. Service was reasonably attentive although the kitchen struggled to keep up with the dining room. I heard another diner loudly complaining of a long wait for food. I think that the issues are not fatal and are fixable. We'll have to visit again soon to see how they respond to the challenges of starting up, but I think there's a lot of promise here and will become a local highlight for real seafood. read more

This was quiet an experience. To start out the wait was around 35 minutes, this place was packed but had plenty of parking. Once we got our seats the server was right their taking our order. She was very friendly and kind. We had ordered crab dip, clam chowder and crab balls for the appetizer. The crab ball we great the dipping sauce with a bit of spiciness which was nice. Clam chowder was on point, very good. The crab dip was very sweet and seemed to have too much mayonnaise in it. Out of four people that tried it at my table noone liked it very much and thought to much mayo and sweet. We had order our main entrees which we a kids shrimp plate with hushpuppies, 14 raw oysters, 1/2 lb of cajun shrimp and 1 1/2 lb of snow crab, parmesan garlic oysters and fish tacos with fries. The raw oysters we very fresh and you have to shuk them yourself. Only downside they were suppose to be chilled and they came out very warm. The cajun shrimp was very fresh but the cajun flavor didnt really stick but still fresh. The snow crab was really good, fresh and perfect. We didnt receive our parmesan garlic oysters and after telling our server they brought out jalapeno oyster and we had to tell them again they were wrong. Eventually they brought out the correct ones. Unfortunately we never received our kids order of fried shrimp and hushpuppies. We dont know what went wrong but our server wrote it down initially but then didn no put it in or something. Lucky enough we got enough food to share with the little one so he didnt go hungry. I was really upset and they never apologized. The owner nor any manger came to ask how our experience was which was a surprise since they just opened a few days ago. They did overall a good job for being newly opened but I still was upset with not receiving food. Hopefully another trip here once it's been opened longer sill be better since my wife loves oysters and this is the only place in town to get them. read more

The calamari appetizer was cooked to perfection. I had the combo basket with cod and shrimp, delicious!! My wife loved her oyster and shrimp poor boy, said it was the best she has ever had and she has had a lot!! The server had a great sense of humor and made the experience fun and entertaining! Wowzas y'all! I almost didn't post this because I ain't trying to have every one and there brother in our new Seafood spot but dang. We got 2lbs of crab legs, 2 sides, 2 beers and Sweet Tea for $55!!!! The 2lbs of crab legs and 2 sides are we're on special today for $42. Dang fair prices if you asked me! It was super delish as well. Only reason we didn't give a 5/5 is because we waited about 20 min for our food and it was not busy at all. But even that wasn't a huge deal because of the amount of crab legs we had!! Our server was suffocating under a non helpful manager. They 86'd more than what they had available. They didn't have any white wine. Sea food is often paired with white wine. My beer was flat. The manager (husky woman with a bun) wouldn't take it off the check. My husband ordered another beer, and the manager gave us back the beer that I had kindly sent back. When we brought it up to our server she was happy to go pour a fresh beer, but unfortunately- it had something floating in it. Looked like gunk from the tap not being cleaned properly. We both consumed raw food from a place that re sends drink orders. The owner came out to the floor, looked at us, did nothing to help or even come speak to us, then walked back to the kitchen. Judy, our server, was professional and incredibly helpful during our poor experience. If we ever return it would be for the convenience of location and hope that we get her again. I was a little skeptical dining in due to the beginning on phase two coronavirus reopening, but Shuckin Shack did an amazing job calming those concerns. As soon as you walk in a waitress takes your temperature (forehead thermometer). This really reassured me! The seats were also roped off to allow for social distancing and a barrier was built at the bar to keep bartenders and patrons safe. We both ordered an app to try, he got the Mac n cheese bites and rated them a 2.5-3/5 and I got the cold crab dip and the small slices of bread were way too salty (my husband agreed and he eats anything) and the dip had no flavor 0/5. For the meal my husband got the swing bridge 2.5/5 and says that it was also salty. I ordered the lobster roll and it had no flavor and was pretty small 1/5, but the fries were good 5/5. First time trying Shuckin' Shack. Nicely decorated nautical theme. Friendly waitress, but she was running the whole show, waiting tables, running the bar, running the food and bussing the tables. Luckily, it wasn't too busy. My wife had a whole broiled lobster, which she described as mediocre. I had a shrimp po'boy, which was overloaded with shrimp. Not a bad thing, but nothing spectacular. I have tried the Surf City and CB locations and love them both. Since I'm closer to Jacksonville we gave it a try today. I ordered the greggah (cold lobster roll/salad) and the lobster was watery. There was barely any mayo, just water, which was odd. The hush puppies were tiny which made them very crunchy and not moist on the inside. The service was good and the atmosphere was cute but we won't return since we can drive a little bit further to Surf City. read more

One of the worst restaurant experiences I've had in a LONG time. Came in on a Saturday at around 6:00. My dad and I ordered 2 appetizers and 2 entrees. After about 20 minutes, we got the appetizers. After about 40 minutes, she came back and told us she hadn't put our entree order in because the kitchen was backed up. A hour's gone by...she says now she CAN'T put our food in because the computer is down. We tell her we want to pay and leave. She says we can't pay until the computer comes up "but I can write it in my book and run it later." Uh, no. We ask to see a manager...she says there IS no manager, and that there wasn't one the night before, but that they weren't really open until May 28; if you're charging me full price for food, you're open. Left our phone number and said have the owner call us to process our credit card, and still waiting a call. I've been in restaurants a long time--this is one of most colossally mismanaged places I've ever seen. What the hell kind of owner doesn't have a manager on a weekend, much less an OPENING weekend. read more

I have visited this location about five times. I've visited alone, with my partner, mother, and a coworker on separate occasions. Firstly, the prices are too high for the quality of the food. $25 for a pound of crab legs, when you can get a pound of crab legs plus sides and biscuits at Red Lobster for $20. I really wanted to like this place because I love seafood and I live very close to this location. My main issue isn't the prices, it's the service. It's leaves much to be desired and it is the #1 reason I won't choose to eat here again. When I've walked in, sometimes I am greeted by staff and seated or sometimes I'm casually yelled at from across the room that I can sit wherever I want. The wait for the waitress is long, the food has sometimes taken a long time to come out even when there wasn't many people in the restaurant, and the waitress is nowhere to be found when I'm ready to just pay and leave. I am all for establishments being casual and appealing to their clientele, but I was turned off by the staff swearing in casual conversation with their fellow staff or with customers, almost to the point of being excessive. If you are trying to go out an enjoy a nice dining experience, I wouldn't recommend going to this place unless you are willing to wait and deal with staff who couldn't care less about the quality of the service. The prices are too high to deal with the issues. The food was always good though, but not worth it. read more

We were hoping to love this place as we live within walking distance but my wife and i are we're greatly disappointed . 1.) kitchen has a tough time keeping up with the restaurant about 50% capacity 2) There is really only one waitress who acts as the hostess , runner, bartender , and waitress. You can understand why she seems so visibly annoyed and doesn't pay attention to her tables 3) Price gouging . I understand quality sea food is expensive but my daughter had the chicken tender basket which consisted of two tenders and 1/2 corn cob for $6.25 , An absolute joke and slap in the face to parents looks to bring their kids along. 4) My fish taco rivaled that of Taco Bell all for the low price or 12.99 for two tacos with the fish being cold on both Plus side my wife had the shrimp and chicken. The shrimp was really good and the chicken crispy. We would love to come back but it won't be until major changes are made to their menu pricing and the place is properly staffed. read more

When the bill came our appetizer was $9.99, kids meal was $7.25 because of the shrimp being market value or maybe because of her side of corn that supposed to be included. The waitress said she noticed the difference in price but said nothing about it until I questioned. Even my meal had an added charge that wasn't included on the menu. Both tasted delicious & fresh. We also ordered blue moon, Sam Adams, & a Cabernet Sauvignon. All were served promptly. We also ordered half & full dozen clams both steamed & raw. Both were very small portions & sides were extra charges $1 & $1.50 depending on what you want. We ordered corn & slaw. Extremely small portion of slaw. Think condiment container small. We also ordered grilled shrimp tacos with chips & salsa. Nothing spectacular with the tacos & we have had lots of seafood tacos before. Paltry on portions again except the chips! Salsa was scant as well. And we ordered dozen raw oysters with 6 wings. The largest oyster was maybe the size of a half dollar & the wings were heavily breaded. Again, nothing to rave about. Decided to try this place out today as it is now under new management. The decor was nice but that is about the only positive I have. My boyfriend and I were the only ones in there at lunch time on a holiday. Guess that should have been a clue. Our waiter was a young kid who was too busy playing on his cell phone to keep our drinks full. The food itself was very greasy and they used way too much butter on the sandwich rolls and the bread for their crab dip. My boyfriend got their version of a lobster roll and he said it had no flavor and also had a hint of pepperoni flavor. I would have to recommend you drive 30 minutes to Swansboro or Sneads Ferry if you want some good seafood and skip this place. It's not worth the price. read more
