We've visited Mi Cabana several times during our stay in New Bern/Bridgeton. Solid Tex-Mex food in a fitting Tex-Mex atmosphere. This restaurant was such a great find!!! They have atmosphere, great service and amazing food! Prices were very reasonable and the service was superb. The plates are more like platters. I ordered the tostadas ceviche. The presentation was so pretty I hated to mess it up. We had played golf and not eaten all day. I still could only eat half of my entree. It had delicious mango salsa with fresh cucumbers, onions, and cilantro with shrimp. I ordered a skinny margarita. It was different than my usual. But it also delicious. We could see a little of the kitchen from where we sat and noticed how clean it was. They obviously take a lot of pride in their business. We are on a long trip. Wish we lived closer. This restaurant has been one of our favorites for Mexican food. We were hungry today and ran in for a quick bite! We were taken to a table quickly; salsa, chips, and drinks were brought quickly, as well as our order taken within minutes of us going in. However, then we waited...and waited. We waited for almost 30 minutes for our food. My husband and I both ordered combo plates. I ordered two tacos that came with rice and beans. My husband ordered a combo or a taco, a burrito, and a chili relejeno. These two meals should not have taken that long, and we have never waited that long for our food at this restaurant! They had plenty of servers, and they were busy, but we've been in on busier days and have not waited for our food this long. I am not sure what the issue was today, but we were disappointed. The food was very hot when it came to our table, but the meat was very greasy. My hard taco shell was very chewy and soft, and the soft taco was sitting in grease. I've almost always been pleased with everything at Mi Cabana in New Bern, but today was very disappointing. I will still visit there again, in hopes that the food will come out sooner and will not be so greasy. Our server was very friendly! read more

Don't get thrown off by the huge colorful restaurant that is off the main road, go ahead and drive towards the back and visit this gem ! When we walked in we were greeted right away and seated in a very spacious booth. The inside of the restaurant is breathtaking, beautiful colors throughout the inside with a lot of custom wood-work. There is music playing in the background at the perfect tone not too loud. The first round of chips and salsa is on the house and to have another round it is only 99 cents. My family ordered the chicken enchilada combo with rice and beans. The pastor burrito and the steak and shrimp plate (carne asada y camarones). The food was AMAZING. It was fresh, the perfect temperature and full of flavors. My pastor burrito was the perfect balance between the sweetness of pineapple with the meat, and spice from the salsa on top with melted cheese. The staff were involved but not bugging you too much. I forgot to mention how fresh the tortillas were, they were definitely a 10/10 in quality. We are new to the area and I will say that we are definitely returning to Mi Cabana to eat. Saw the reviews, a 4! People around here must not know what good Mexican food is. The chips tasted burnt so we ordered the guacamole, what a mistake, no flavor at all. Ordered the cheese enchiladas beans and rice with red sauce. The corn tortillas are white and the cheese is American white cheese. The refried beans looked like they were microwaved and the rice has potatoes in them. My wife ordered the seafood soup. OMG it was the worst soup ever for a price of $23 and taste like rotten fish. We could not eat this stuff. Even though we didn't eat the food we still paid for it. This chain is about profit not quality. Nice looking place but the food is really bad. Not original to this area, if the customers are giving this place a 4 they have never had decent Mexican dinner. Avoid this place. read more

Need to pick up the pace if expected to compete with some stiff competition. Started off the meal with a chorizo dip that came out in a giant stock pot sized bowl. I never thought I would say this but less is more in this case. Do not need this much cheese in one sitting or you'll be stopped up for weeks. The dip was ok, alittle greasy but somewhat expected it to be a little since it was chorizo. My lovely partner in crime ordered her go to chicken chimichanga and black beans. She noted that the chicken did not have much flavor but the guacamole seemed fresh. She asked for a side of black beans instead of the rice and they came out in a bowl as if ordering black bean soup. Did not seem washed but don't really know since they were submerged in their own juices. Not what we were expecting. I ordered the chicken tortilla soup. I was not aware that this soup gets served with avocado which this was loaded with. No real ingredients listed on the menu and since I don't like avocado, this did not get eaten. They offered to take it back but since my arteries were already about clogged from the cheese, I was not interested in another soup. Was just not my thing and was given an apology but not comped anything for it. Service was pretty good which I would give a 4 but since I'm not here for the service, the food got the 2 for me. Could be awesome for some but not for me. Atmosphere is very open with a touristy Mexico feel. Best of luck but I think I'm gonna stick with my other favorite places. read more
