Oh my god. Best Mexican food I've ever had. The burrito is the bomb, coming back again!!!!

It was pretty good. I had the burrito al pastor and the meat was really good but I wasn't a fan on the rice they used, I've seen this type of rice on 3 different places on the Treasure Coast, it nowhere nearly resembles Mexican rice but the Al Pastor meat made up for it. The wife had carnitas which were very tasty, again they gave her some OTHER rice (different than the one from my burrito) mixed with canned vegetables, I thought it weird but she liked it. So go or don't, but know what to expect before you do. Overall was a good experience. Did I mention the Al pastor was delicious? hehe read more

Really really good. I had the bean and cheese pupusa and the carnita tacos. The pupusas were my absolute favorite and the tacos were delicious as well. The service was nice although we put in our order around 2:00 and didn't really get the option to stay and eat (they closed at 2:30 on Sunday). Regardless, I would definitely go again. read more

Wow, what a testament to the theory that the best food can be found at a hole in the wall. I had Carnitas and my guy had the Barbacoa, shared a pork tamale. This place is incredible! It doesn't look like much, but the food is seriously unbelievable! It's a little market/ restaurant with just a handful of tables. Teeny tiny!! But oh the food!!! We tried some papusas and burritos. The unlikely star? The pickled slaw that comes on the side of an order of papusas. Wow!! Their burritos are absolutely delicious too, and I am not usually a huge burrito fan. While we were there, I saw several people order the soup, so I am going to have to give that a try next time! Atmosphere: It's a store with a kitchen. Local Spot. Service: The owners are nice, service isn't bad. Food comes usually within 15 minutes. Food: All the mexican food is normal, nothing special. The pupusas are the reason I come to this place. Fresh and hand-made with a side of curtido. The hot sauces they have appear and taste home-made. Definitely delicious. My husband and I stopped here on a whim and WOW. So good! Friendly staff, real home style food, and a overall great experience. We had chicken and steak tacos, cheese pupusa and we LOVED the mixed Pupusa (meat, cheese, beans) and washed it all down with a huge mexican coke. I don't think it would be possible to find a more authentic Mexican food place. I had the Pastor Tortas and a pork tamale, both were absolutely phenomenal! Fresh and delicious. My fiancé and her family had the chicken enchiladas and chicken quesadilla. Both were really good as well! It's a tiny hole-in-the-wall with a tiny Mexican grocery market attached. May seem a little sketchy at first but these are where all the hidden gems lay! read more

This place is fantastic. I am from California and I know Latin food. This restaurant is family owned by wonderful people, the owner, Carlos is so warm and charming. By far the smallest resturaunt I've ever been in, probably only enough seating for 20-25 people and the server was also the cook, but the food was really good. I ws really craving a burrito one day and my boyfriend and I decided to check it out. The salsas and sauces look like they are made in house. My burrito was really good and so was my boyfrend's chimi. People who are expecting greasey taco bellesque food aren't going to find it. The tacos have cheese, onion and cilantro and you can choose from the regular meats(beek, chicken, pork) plus tongue, cheek, and other authentic cuts. The refried beans are probably the best I've ever had, they are seasoned so well and very smooth. Great Latin food and great service! My friend ordered the pork and bean papusas with pickled cabbage relish (sounds weird but flavors and texture are good) and I ordered the steak and chorizo tacos (really tender and not too spicy). We then had fried plantains with cream ( good but flavor is more savory so great as a side) and flan for dessert. My suggestions would be to get the flan and/or get the plantains with the caramel sauce from the flan for dipping as a dessert. It is family run with mexican grocery store on one side and small eatery on the other so if your expecting fancy, you want get it here. I relocated from Maryland and discovered this diner by chance about 8 years ago and my family and eat at least once a week. The food is very inexpensive for the quality. The food is consistently delicious and the owners make you feel like family. I recommend the mexican sandwiches or "torta Mexicana" which is just amazing. Also, they have the best tasting Pupusas in the area and I should know since I'm from El Salvador. This is the best kept secret in St. Augustine. I'm from Honduras and I humbly consider myself a pupusas expert [:)] and this is the place for pupusas! Their pupusas Were better than some places in my home country. We live in Daytona Beach and my mom, my husband and me, came to El Carnal after a color Run in Palm Coast. We found them on Yelp and because of the reviews we decided to make the trip, it was a good call!! We finally have a place to enjoy pupusas. We also try their fried plantains with cream (a Central American Classic) which were as excellent as the Abuela back home. We didn't try anything else from the menu but for what we saw on the other tables I bet it's good too! All of the tables were full and the phone was constantly ringing to go they seem busy, that's always a good sign. There is a small grocery on the other side of the restaurant that sells hot sauces, cheeses, and other authentic Central American items. We even bought the cream to take it home and ordered 4 more pupusas to go. The service is great and we felt welcomed, don't be shy and come to visit el Carnal. read more

Wonderful fresh food. Small hidden restaurant and store just south of RT 312. Not a lot of tables so you might want to get there a little early. The store has your cold drinks in the cooler and plenty of spices and different hot sauce from south of the border. read more
