Love love love! The environment here is always so upbeat and happy, they have live music, the food is delicious (handmade tortillas!!), the service is amazing, my only complaint is parking but it seems like they're working on expanding that as well!

Amazing hole in the wall! There's additional parking across the street and additional seating in the little shed in front of the place. Smells great when you walk in and can even see the tortillas being freshly made. We were seated pretty quick and the staff was nice. The food was so flavorful and very authentic! The salsa was bomb, frijoles were so good and the barbacoa was definitely the star. Great authentic food not to be missed due to appearance.

Saw this place on local eats YouTube and wanted to come and see if it's really authentic Mexican FOOD! Cabrito and barbacoa are not easy to make and the love and time that it takes shows so let's see how it goes!!! First off!! My husband said "Está solo!!" Which means "empty spot" for us lol but I said nahhhh let's give it a try!! It's good that it's not packed lol so we can enjoy. We could see the lady "server" from the window getting ready with menus for us so that was very nice to see she was paying attention!! We ordered drinks: horchata and Mexican coke and OMG the horchata is on point! Just enough cinnamon and the rice flavor is amazing!!! Homemade for sure!!!! We asked for the queso fundido and chorizo as appetizer! Very creamy and cheesy!!! Chorizo is savory and the salsa they bring at the beginning with 2 flautas is super super spicy but delicious so try it out!! Homemade tortillas is a must!!!! Very thick and perfect size and flavor!!!! Waiting on the charola for 2 which comes with cabrito, barbacoa, flautas, consomé and refried beans and yummm nopales!!! We wanted to try both out so the lady advices to get this!!! Can't wait!!! OMG OMG OMG YESSS!! Don't regret it!! Don't be fooled by the bad reviews or the empty restaurant! This place is a gem!!! The savory meat with such overwhelming Burt's of flavor is amazing!!!! Both cabrito and barbacoa are very soft! Melts in your mouth and the flavor is on point!!! Nailed it 100% MEXICO on the table!!! The consome with garbanzo and rice is so heartwarming!! So savory!! We will have so much left to take home!! It was a lot of food!! And I am happy for that because I will be regretting not eating more lol The ambiance is very homie, relaxing and Mexican music in the background it's a plus!!! Service is great! Very attentive and sweet workers!!! You feel that good vibe!

Authenticity is a buzz word that gets tossed around, some places play with it and others embrace it. El Hidalguense is one of the latter. If you want to have a taste of a homemade meal from a Mexican house, this is the best I've had in a while from a restaurant. Menu is in Spanish and English, but you might want to touch up on your Spanish prior to visiting. Mine is serviceable, if not always a bit rusty and I managed through a meal comfortably. Regardless of your duolingo score, the staff here is polite and friendly like you'd expect. Homemade tortillas are being made as you walk in, Univision is on the TV, and a table is easy to find. This is the vibe you get from authenticity. You come for the Cabrito here, a small barbecue goat that is simply seasoned and grilled to amazing crispness. It's kinda a luxury meal for my grandparents and the price reflects that a bit, around $30 for order of meat. It's best to order family style I'd say and just enjoy the Cabrito with the salsas and tortillas. Beans come with your order and taste like the beans we'd used to make on Sunday to have for the rest of the week. Nothing is perfect here but this place has had heaps of praise piled on it in the past and it's very worth it.

Esperemos traer a nuestra familia aquí pronto

I've been wanting to go to this place for over a year now because they have Cabrito and that used to be my mother's favorite. my brother, my nephew and I. Kaitlyn excellent waitress Alberto bought us appetizers lil a flauta with a very good red sauce which my nephew loved I ordered a taco and fajita n trips and my brother ordered the nachos and my nephew ordered the enchiladas fajita. We also ordered chips and salsa. The chips and salsa were very good. Kaitlyn was very attentive thank you very good service and so was Alberto . We will to be going back. Everything I ordered was flavorful delicious on point! I will would definitely bring more people. Kaitlyn and Alberto are excellent servers.

It was my first time here and I liked that we got little flautas instead of chips. I ordered the enchiladas that came with frijoles charros but it was so heavy I barely ate the beans. I would only suggest they bring out the beans first so you can eat before the food comes out.

Fantastic food and great service. A real authentic Mexican meal. None of that Tex-Mex. The location is super old so don't be afraid when you show up and it doesn't look inviting. They will be moving soon to a new and larger location.

It is clear that there was care and attention behind each menu item. Also, the pace of the food being brought out was evenly paced, which I appreciate, and our server gave us just the right amount of attentiveness. We celebrated my husband's birthday here, and they sent out a tres leches with a candle on it. Very kind and very delicious dessert. Usually not a big fan of tres leches, but this one was not overwhelmingly soaked in condensed milk, and it has a very fresh tasting peach (seasonal) puree drizzled on top. The experience started poorly with the valet attendants, whom we found to be rude, dismissive, and very unprofessional. It was such an unpleasant first impression that my wife and I mentioned it to the hostess when we went inside. Unfortunately, things did not improve. The hostess seemed completely unconcerned about our experience and simply informed us that the wait for a table was approximately two hours. While deciding whether our party should wait or go elsewhere, I went to the bar to order a drink. After ordering, the bartender told me that if I was only having a drink, I needed to move. Apparently, sitting at the bar required ordering a meal. At that point, we had experienced enough. Between the unpleasant valet experience, the indifferent response at the hostess stand, the two-hour wait, and then being told I couldn't sit at the bar simply to have a drink while we decided what to do, the overall message was clear: we did not feel welcome here. My wife, the rest of our party, and I decided to leave and have dinner elsewhere. A busy restaurant is understandable. A long wait is understandable. What is much harder to understand is making prospective customers feel unwelcome at nearly every point of contact. Needless to say, this was an exceptionally disappointing experience, and we will not be returning.
