A favorite among locals... Real authentic Mexican. It's in an old HoJo restaurant so it's got to be good. We moved in to a neighborhood down the street and were quite frankly not certain of the place. One visit changed our mind. Now it's our favorite go to Mexican restaurant. The lady who runs the place is hard working, conscientious, and thorough. The staff has always been good. The atmosphere is HoJo. LOL. Nothing wrong with that. It's neat and clean. It's a repurposed restaurant, that's good for the entertainment and or the economy, right! Honestly, if you like Mexican, and you are anywhere near I85 exit 14 in South Carolina, this place is worth trying. They have outdoor seating, which we have taken advantage of with our grandkids. I.e. no worries about spilling salsa! They also have a full bar. Maybe those grandkids are active and you need a shot of Tequila! We we're looking forward to this meal. Didn't get the Servers name... friendly enough but nothing notable. She brought some chips & salsa. They were very thin chips and I felt they were stale. Salsa was "flat" with no spice. I ordered a Margarita. OMG..... It was so sweet, I couldn't drink it. It was safer to go with a bottled beer. We ordered our food.... We stopped here for dinner and the food and service were excellent. The restaurant was clean and inviting. We tried the Mexican Guacamole based on a recommendation in another review. The guacamole was very tasty and we ate all of a very generous portion. The salsa is also prepared well - very fresh and not too spicy. The grilled chicken tacos were amazing as were the vegetarian enchiladas. I don't normally like enchilada sauce, but the sauce here was perfection. We will definitely be back. We arrived here by Divine appointment. Traveling back to Greenville, SC from Athens, Ga on I-85, my car suddenly began losing power. We were right at exit 14 and safely got off the interstate at the Marathon gas station. In hopes that the car would reset if we restarted, we tried to drive it to no avail and wound up on the other side of the overpass in the parking lot of Mi Casa Leon right at about 5PM. Calling one of my sons to come get us from Greenville and calling AAA, both arrived around the same time at 5:30. But in the meantime, we had opportunity to look at the Yelp and Google reviews for this restaurant - which quite frankly, not knowing its local reputation and judging from just the outside, we would not have even considered eating here. But after sitting in the car for a half hour and reading reviews, it became a must eat here event! We started with the Texas margarita, because - hey - it was a traumatic day and we had a designated driver. Very good. Then the Mexican guacamole, made by the owner and served with crispy, thin tortilla chips. So delicious we ordered another one to take home with us. Probably the best guacamole I have ever had. My wife and one son ordered fajitas, which were good. My other son ordered pork tacos, which was a mistake because he was anticipating al Pastor, but they were pulled pork. Good, but not as satisfying for him. I asked if the owner made her own mole sauce, which she does. So, I had the Pollo con Mole Arrozo. Mole chicken with rice. It was deep and complex in flavor, just the right amount of heat and excellent. The chicken was breast meat and a little tougher than I wanted, should have used thighs, but it was still very good. I over-chipped on the salsa and guac so that meant I had a good portion of leftovers to take home and enjoy for lunch the following day. Probably not a place I would drive the 45 miles to get to, but if I am remotely nearby, this is a must stop for very good, home-cooked Mexican. read more

Although it was 5 PM she said I could order the lunch menu and just add one dollar. I ordered the chimichanga and loved it. My husband ordered the large burrito and also really enjoyed it. The delicious surprise started with fresh tortilla chips and salsa - made in house, light, crispy, not greasy. Salsa that was fresh and delicious just enough of a spicy pop. We both ordered Mi Casa Special, shrimp, chicken grilled with onions, a light flavorful queso and an Avacado Cream sauce that has will remember! The end of the meal we had a sopapilla which was the best I have ever had - crispy tortilla, smothered/grilled with cinnamon and pressed flat like a chip. Covered with honey and whipped cream. (It apparently usually comes with a chocolate sauce instead of honey) Service was fast and friendly. Decor is traditional Mexican decor but the food is the star of the show!! They have increased their prices but not updated them on menus or online--making it somewhat confusing of a transaction. Carefully check your bags. They are notorious for not including dressing for salads, or ranch for the hot wings. The wings, I must say, are DELICIOUS, and probably the best 'value' item on the entire menu. The chicken quesadilla looked totally different from what I expected, but tasted AMAZING. We are addicted to their cheese dip-but they charge almost $9 including tax for about 6.5 to 7 ounces of it. The Tostitos brand in the grocery store is just as good. I promise. All in all, we will definitely go back. Just make SURE to check your bag for the condiment items.
