My wife was craving Salvadorian food for a while and this place was on the way home from my wife's doctor's appointment. We arrived a few minutes before they opened. Exactly at 10am, the staff opened the door and turned on the 'Open' sign. There were a good amount of seating and the staff were very friendly. I don't eat this early and decided to order the menudo and got the Salvadorian tortilla. The tortilla is similar to what they use to make pupusas. The tripe was very good. It was nit soggy and not tough to chew either. There were a good amount of tripe in the soup. The soup was a little bland for me but I'm use to adding a lot of spice and hot sauce in my soup. After adding the condiments, the broth was perfect. My wife ordered pupusas since that's what she was craving for awhile. She loved the food and was full after her meal. She said it was made perfectly. I would definitely come back here since I wanted to try the alambre. I was debating whether to order it to go but it might not taste the same when I get home. Plus this gives me a reason to come back and dine in. They have different hot sauce and you might have to ask the staff and they will bring it to your table. I like the red sauce and the sauce bottle that is at the table. The green sauce has a refreshing taste to it. The orange sauce was more of a creamy base. Pass it up!! your better off driving 1 mile further and going to "EL Chalateco".. they have a similar name, but the quality of the food makes a huge difference. Let me tell you why.. I came here on my lunch break and asked for 2 pupusas revueltas and a plátano frito con lechera To Go .. they gave me both of the Pupusas wrapped in foil and plátano frito in a to go to container. I grabbed the bag I didn't check it. I noticed the foil, but I never thought that my Pupusas would be wrapped in foil, so when I returned back to Work, I opened my bag and talk to myself. How am I supposed to eat Pupusas? If there is no plate. How am I supposed to pour over the salsa and the cabbage when there's no plate. I was disappointed when I opened up de plátano frito and tried to cut into it to eat. It was very hard. But this time I only had 20 more minutes left on my lunch. I was very disappointed cause I couldn't really eat the pupusas how I wanted to and the dessert was really not tasty at all. It just didn't seem freshly made. My fav papusas in the area, hands down. I get the #9 pork, beans and cheese. I know nothing about Salvadorian food, so I can't speak to its authenticity. It's a little browned on the outside but ooey gooey goodness on the instead. The pickled veggies and tomato sauce make it. It's not quite as good as the one in Redwood city that closed, they put sliced avocados on top. It's not in the fanciest area, however it's always busy. I the staff is very nice. Delicious pupusas. Tried the chicarron and the cheese pupusa, both were good, but the cheese one was better. it had the perfectly caramelized dark spots of cheese that leak from the pupusa. The chicharron one wasn't bad, but I've had better versions. The pork here had a bit too much of a sour taste, which was unusual. The pupusas were freshly made, so it took 10 -15 min, but it was worth it. They were not at all greasy. Service was friendly. The atmosphere is a very casual, family restaurant one. Every Tuesday for dinner I try a new place. Today, it was Mi Chalateca Pupuseria. As soon as we entered we were greeted by the wonderful staff and shown to a table. We've never had Salvadorian food so we went a big crazy when ordering. Got 4 pupusas: jalapeno cheese (pretty spicy), 2 beef and cheese and chorizo and cheese, all of them were delicious and served with a fantastic cabbage salad. We got a chicken tamale with was alright, nothing out of the ordinary. The beef tongue and cheese sincronizada which was basically a quesadilla was delicious!! I haven't seen many places offering tongue on the menu. The Salvadorian horchata was also very tasty. Great experience and would recommend it wholeheartedly. read more

I tried the jalapeño con queso y ayote con queso pupusas and they were delicious! Very cheesy and that perfect mix of crunchy and soft pupusas. This place is as authentic as it gets. I counted 5 people working in a small area, like a well oiled machine. My friend ordered a regular burrito "regular" look at the picture!! Every place I have ever been to, this so called regular burrito would EASILY qualify as a super burrito. Believe it or not they do have a Super burrito. My friend loved it but could only eat just over 1/2 of it. I forgot what mine was called but it had green & red bell peppers, lots of cheese, steak and who knows what else along with like a dozen mini "hot" tortillas. I also ordered a Horchata and a Churro "they forgot the Churro but didn't charge me so..." Overall the food is excellent here, friendly service, and they give you large quantity of food, seriously what more can you ask for? Booth seat cushions are showing their age but beyond that...... This was the first time I had El Salvadorian food and it was great! Pupusas slap! I had the pork and cheese, jalapeño and cheese and chorizo and potatoes variety. All great in their own ways. Food is good not going to lie. The service today at 7pm was racist. I arrived at 7 to pick up an order. The lady helped me and said 3 minutes she just had to pack it up. I then sat down and she helped four people place their orders over 17 minutes. I asked her for help she said that they are paying so she's taking them first. In all I waited 20 minutes for an order that sat there for 20 plus minutes. I'm always on the hunt for pupusas, and have always wanted to try Mi Chalateca right by the local laundromat. I ordered via phone and the entire process to pick up for takeout was super easy. We ordered some pupusas, super chicken burrito and a bistec torta. All of the food was ready for pickup upon arrival, with all of the fixin's like the salsas and the cabbage slaw for the pupusas, and the lady at the cashier was so friendly and kind. Parking was easy to find on a weekday evening, but they do share with the laundromat and a liquor store nearby. I didn't see anyone eating inside when I went to pick up the food, but it seems like most people were doing takeout to bring home. The pupusas were def my favorite, but everything else looked amazing. The bean and cheese pupusa was delicious, I love a good refried beans dish. The zucchini one was also flavorful, and the mushroom pupusa was my least favorite but still yummy. The pupusas were stacked up like pancakes, and we were so hungry we just cut them up stacked. The texture of the masa was a softly firm and it wasn't soggy at all after the car ride home. The super burrito is SUPER in size, I'll tell you that. The chicken is flavorful, and I love that there's cheese and avo in there. Seriously so good, and we had two meals out of the entire order. The bistec torta wasn't for me, but it was humungous. It's been very hard to find an authentic Salvadoran restaurant that has pupusas. I was so happy I came across this place. The server was very helpful she recommended I try the pupusas con harina de arroz. I will be having my pupusas like this from here on out. This little hole in the wall/seem to be family owned and operated (not sure if it is but feels like It) restaurant is very good. I really enjoyed what I ordered and it was my first time trying it after wanting to try it in 11 years living next to it since I had moved just across from it back when I was in high school. I'd never had pupusas before but after having them for the first time, I have been converted, and will seek them out where ever I can find them. I hope to come back and try all of their excellent food items. I stop by this morning for a quick snack of pupusas at 11:15am since I was planning for a late lunch. The place was super busy even at that time. There are a good 6-7 tables occupied and three chefs busy cooking behind the counter. I ordered a pork and cheese pupusas to go and waited 15 minutes before it was ready. But the wait was worth it! I can smell the pupusas even through the bag! After opening up the bag, I cut into the pupusas and added the pickled cabbage. I took a big bite of cabbage on its own and found it to be full of flavor, with the right amount of sourness, heat, and saltiness. The pupusas is fried golden brown, not overly crispy and amazingly not greasy tasting. Together the combination was very delicious. I will be back! read more

Really great place. We ordered several different pupusas. We tried the zucchini, mushroom, bean + cheese, and jalapeño. We also ordered some tamales. Everyone enjoyed everything! They were well filled and nice and warm (even after driving back to the east side). For the quality and the overall taste the food is a great value as well! Looks to be family owned? It sucks that I can't order over the phone, as many works only speak english. BE prepared to wait 20-30 minutes if there's no line. Great news is that they make them fresh to order. You know it's good when everyone at the restaurant is Salvadorian. I keep coming back for more and telling more people about this place. Every single pupusa is good, but my favs are the cheese ones and the revueltas(mixed pork, fried beans and cheese). Went to Mi Chalateca Pupuserua after a friend recommended the place. It also gave me a chance to work on my Spanish. I went on June 6 and they offer outside and inside dining. After looking at the menu for about 5 minutes I ended up ordering the flautas and two cheese and beans pupusas in Spanish. I watched the soccer (fútbol) game while waiting on my food. Was craving pupusas and this place is a couple of minutes from my place. I ordered the revueltas and the plantain dish. Unfortunately I ordered my pupusas to go and when I got home, I'm pretty sure I got cheese pupusas instead of revueltas. There was not meat whatsoever. Don't get me wrong they were good but basic. The plantain dish had pinto beans instead of black beans which was slightly disappointing. Again it was good but not like having your plantains with black beans. I'll definitely check this place out again and hopefully I get the right order so I can update this review. read more
