I used to come here a lot years ago. It's been awhile so I thought I'd bring my fiancé here to try it. I have to say I'm disappointed and it seems like the quality has gone down. The salsa was good. The guacamole had huge chunks of tomato and avocado in it which I didn't like. I've had better guacamole at other places. I ordered Ramon's Special Platter or something like that. It had 2 chicken taquitos, a chicken enchilada, a beef enchilada, a beef supreme taco, and rice. The food was not hot. It was warm not hot and tasted just ok. My fiancé had 1 of her favorites Chicken a la Parilla. The chicken was not cooked all the way so she had to send it back. When they brought her a new plate she said it tasted just ok not like she's had at our favorite place that we usually go to. Overall Mi Mexico was just ok not great. 7 WORDS: Dark / Bland / Gruff / Mediocre / Tex-Mex / Cheap / Traditional Ventured in on a Wednesday at 2pm, looking for something I hadn't had in a long time. Thought this was the old El Mariachi, but I may have gotten it wrong; El Mariachi is right across the street, tucked away from the normal Main Street bustle. The Host seated us promptly, but without much courteousness. The service was just about the same. We figured that day's staff was not fluent in English, therefore, they used it sparingly. Regardless, I rarely fault a restaurant on its servers or hosts. Being in Hospitality for 20+ years, I've noticed it's the individual server's fault 99 times of 100. We ordered the Steak Enchilada and Three Tacos. They tasted truly Tex-Mex. There was no flair - as bland as you'd figure the MCL down the street to serve: palatable to the "dentures set" and just as unflavored as hospital food. Still, it'was almost good enough to get 4-stars: what you'd expect. On the reverse side of the coin, THE TOTAL BILL WAS ONLY 14.67, including 2 lunches and two drinks. That's hard to beat at Taco Bell... Final analysis? If you want food on the cheap but aren't expecting it to be a superb value for the low cost, this is your place. If you have an extra 20-30 dollars to spend, head down the street to Poblano's at Noe-Bixby / Main, just west of the I-70 interchange. I used to bring my wife and kids here twenty years ago, long before we had the variety of Mexican restaurants that we do now. So today I came for lunch. I have my doubts, but my Mom insists. She says it's close by and pretty good and she just needs to get out of the house. Fair enough. We pull up and even in the blinding snowstorm, I can see this place is going to be fun. At least the building was - it was one of THOSE Mexican restaurants with Spanish tile, and an architectural wall surrounding the patio with iron wheels perched on top, stucco exterior, and a dangerously slippy tile walkway to the front door when wet. Inside was even more promising. All of the booths were set back in an alcove with a Spanish tile roof overhanging them, giving you the feeling you were outside in Mexico on a nice summer day and not in Whitehall, Ohio in a snowstorm. Unfortunately, that's not good weather to have a fishbowl sized margarita in your system when you drive home, so I can't speak to those. What I did appreciate was there was a vegetarian section to save you time playing I Spy in the huge menu, and they all included squash, zucchini, and mushrooms. There's nothing I dislike more than paying the same price for the standard veggies that already come with the dish as someone who had chicken or steak to go with it. So thank you Mi Mexico, for leaving me the fajita veggies and adding delicious, filling veggies to round out the meal. I think I'd have to disagree with their sign out front stating, "Come enjoy REAL Mexican Food." It's definitely authentic American Mexican food - the kind we all grew up with. But I lived in El Paso, Texas and I think it's safe to say, that this is not the real deal but that doesn't mean it's not good! My fajitas came with a huge platter of refried beans, rice, lettuce, pico de gallo, and sour cream to build on three warm flour tortillas with the veggies. It was a great, filling carbo load after working out and lasted two more meals later that week, so I'd say it's pretty cheap when you divide the price 3 ways. They didn't even charge me to take 2 more tortillas to go. If I could give - 5, I would. Their customer service absolutely SUCKS! I called in an order for a cheese and spinach quesidilla and I was still ordering and the guy hung up. I called back to add to my order. When I picked up the order and get back to my destination I realize they've added mushrooms and there's barely any cheese. I call back, they pass the phone back and forth and I finally explained what happened. I go back to pick up my "corrected order" and it's spinach only .WHAT'S A QUESIDILLA WITH NO CHEESE? I tell them, the cook simply slaps cheese on it without bothering to melt it At this point I'm totally irritated but even still I tell them. They make a new one with nacho cheese so when the guy HANDS it to me, it Spills all over my pants Not only that, it's SOGGY. He sees me wiping my pants and another waiter chuckles and then ask if I need napkins. I was so pissed I just walked out. Rice was cold by this point Horrible, horrible service. The area is not so nice and being accross from Golden Corral which I dispise, I was sceptical, but I heard good things so we gave it a try. Pulling up and walking in my son said "haven't we been here?" It looks just like Casa Hacienda on the outside and the interior and chairs just like Senor Patron, guess all Mexican Restaurants shop at the same Furniture supplier. Still I was relieved how clean it was inside, and they have a nice outside deating area as well. Very authentic, as none of the waiters really speak r understand english, and for the fact they have been there for over 20 years, ordering was a bit tough, I didn't think they would get my order right and sure enough they didn't. But they got it the second time and it was pretty good. My husband said his fajitas were better than at Chili Verde and I thought that would be our new go to Mexican, now I guess not. I always love when you can get everything a la carte, it saves money and room in you belly, because you don't need to eat 5 orders of rice and beans. So we got one of everything, a Burrito, Enchilada, Chimichanga, Taco, Tostada, Taquito, Fajitas for the man and a taco salad for me. The taco salas was great, lots of sauteed veggies, from mushrooms, squash, onions, peppers, it was a nice mix and a good fresh fried shell. The a la carte items were all disspointing, basically all the same thing. Chicken not so great, the ground beef better. My husband said the fajitas were great, way better chicken and beef then in the other items and good chrimp as well. Mi Mexico... I really had too much expectations from this joint. As I entered, vibrant colors,great atmosphere and no waiting made me more positive about it but.... As we got our seat, I could feel the urgency of the server to place the order. They start asking for it even before we seated. Well, as we tasted the free nachos and salsa, our expectations started dropping down. It was horribly bad, tasteless and cold. Even the grilled chicken salad I ordered was too bad. We are older and due to that, COVID, etc. order carryout. The food is good and reasonably priced. Servings are large enough to make a meal the next day as well. The main issue we have with carryout from MiMexico is that the entire order is dumped into a round foil container, so it all gets mixed together. Also makes it difficult to heat up at home. So today me and my fiance go for lunch I order the chicken fajitas he gets the steak quesadilla fajita now here's where everything went wrong they bring fiance food out he starts eating they bring me the salad that goes on the side with the guacamole and sour cream with just the smallest amount of sour cream now I'm a person who enjoys sour cream I said what happened to the sour cream he tells me that is the normal amount we always give I said no its I come here all the time that won't even be enough for all my fajitas he continues to go back and forth with me and tells me you either eat or you don't so fiance asked to speak to a manager he says I am the manager now all this time I still haven't got my food about 5m later he brings my food out doesn't put on table he asked do you want it or not? Not the greatest. Tortillas are not authentic - they use bagged tortillas and they're stale. Waiter wrote my order down wrong - asked for chicken and got steak. Sent it back and didn't get a new plate only new chimichangas...bad form. You could probably find better than Ki Mexico. Well, 3 years later we decided to give them another chance and we are so happy that we did!! This place is just like it used to be! Their food is true authentic Mexican. The atmosphere is also true authentic Mexican with the bright colors and the Spanish music playing. Their prices went up a bit. For 2 lunch entrees and 2 waters it was $30 (that is $25 with a $5 tip). But they expanded by adding a very nice patio. And the employees there even remembered us!!! The decor is nice & homey, we noticed that the music was at a good volume level, present but not making us have to shout at each other to converse. We were promptly greeted once we sat down. Food was served quickly too. I got the grande vegetarian burrito, which came with a side of guac and was drizzled with a yummy queso sauce. Also I love that there were plenty of vegetarian options. I love Mi Mexico! It's one of those places that's very relaxed and what you expect every time. Mexican food is a constant craving and Mi Mexico is a way I can drive less than 5 minutes and get good food. It's definitely your "typical" place, bright colors, painted chairs, etc. On Thursdays they do half off margaritas. Sometimes ya girl just needs a gigantic margarita and some fajitas to make to Friday, ya know? Service here is super fast and nice. I was here a week ago and our food came out within 10 minutes of ordering! The place wasn't smashed but it wasn't empty either! It impresses me every time. The food is exactly what you've had at other Mexican places. It is not very spicy, though. I add hot sauce to a lot of things. I know they can pump up the spice level too if you ask. This is my favorite Mexican food in Columbus. Not only is the food fantastic, but they offer ample servings at an outstanding price. I go there often, facing the 40 minute drive because no place else is as good. The atmosphere is nice and the staff is very friendly. They will even gladly prepare one of my favorite side dishes (which is not on the menu) "chiles toreados" and serve them with my meal. As for price, My wife and I normally start off with the nachos con pollo (Chicken Nachos) and then whatever 2 main entrees we choose, as well as beverages, and still walk out completely stuffed and paying less than $30. the food was good and the service was okay but after I paid for my lunch my bank card was charge a random amount from the restaurant, when I went back in to ask about the random charge the manger had told me "they didn't make it" but when I showed it to him he said "he didn't know". I ended up contacting my bank for it because the manger did NOT offer a refund for the random charge nor did he even explain it.
