Friends and I had lunch here today. The food was excellent!! We ate outside and enjoyed the nice weather. Ordering food was done inside and food paid for at the time of ordering. Service for outside dining was limited to food delivery and drink refills. They were busy but food arrived in a timely manner. I would highly recommend Tropical Grill. read more

Still loving this place two years later! We brought our first dog here during a hiking trip in 2022. Today, we brought our new dog. We went here on a recommendation from a friend and are so glad we did! The grilled shrimp quesadilla was the most flavorful, unique quesadilla I've ever had. Usually they're just stuffed with cheese and not much else, but they put lots of veggies and spices. The mango shrimp platter was fruity and delicious. The shrimp were char grilled perfectly. The place itself is colorful, clean, and the people who work here are so nice! We will definitely be back while we are here visiting this week :) read more

Prices are way too high for quality of food and portions. Prices in the images from the past are more adequate and would result in a higher rating. $16 for a Cuban sandwich? No thanks. Pork was very chewy and I know it sounds weird, but it had too much pork. Food took about an hour to come out. Staff were extremely friendly though and the plantains were great. read more

A Cuban sandwich is a very simple delicacy that needs to no additions. It is an amazing and huge portion that is easy enough for two people to share or for you to have lunch tomorrow! The garlic mango shrimp are incredible and the mango plantains are addictive. It takes someone from Miami to recognize the true quality of a good Cuban sandwich, and the cooking in the kitchen is straight out of Miami! Anna is the best! The wait, was normal 2-5 for food for food that is cooked while you wait; IS FANTASTIC-nothing is warmed up or refried. My wife and I ate a late lunch here on July 4 and considering that she is half Cuban I thought I'd turn this review over to her. Her first comment immediately after trying the Tropi Chopi Pulled Pork (a Cuban specialty) was "Yum, absolutely perfect!" The Plaintains, were fresh, piping hot and perfectly carmelized at which she added "Delicious just like Neenee, my Cuban grandmother used to make". The black beans and onions were also slow cooked to perfection. Ditto, on the Pico De Gallo which arrived on the side. We split a homemade flan for dessert, covered in coconut. It was smooth, creamy and delicious as advertised and the coconut tasted freshly grated. Now, let's talk serving size: Enormous! Service: Friendly, helpful, attentive! Cleanliness: Imacculate. Atmosphere: Comfortable and cool inside, festive and colorful outside. Menu: Extensive. By the way, its delightful owners are on site as you might expect with such a well run establishment. No one can match the passion of owners. Are you getting the idea that we really liked this place? I rarely give 5 stars but hey they checked all the boxes! 5 stars it is! This place is wonderful!!! We found it while driving thru and were thrilled with the flavors and service! The Cuban is the best I've had! The Tropi Chopi with chicken and mango salsa was excellent! Update: owner apologized. I am thankful. Second time we have been here. Food is good but the staff doesn't listen. They are not friendly at all. Got my husband's order wrong both times. The food here is authentic Caribbean fare. I had the tilapia Cubana, and it was absolutely delicious. The ripe plantains or Maduros were cooked to perfection. I was not in a bad mood at all. When we came in you were not busy. One table had a couple with their food and another table had a family of 4 that just ordered right after we sat. We happened upon this gem coming down from a hike at Linville Falls. The Cuban sandwich was amazing- filled with meat and served with delicious side of cucumber salad. We also had grilled mahi tacos and and coconut shrimp platter, with black beans and rice. Everything was so flavorful and service was excellent. So thankful they were open during the COVID scare. Tropical Grill is a very unique and unexpected gem in a small mountain town. The tropical-inspired food tastes very authentic and rich in flavor! Even the salsa they serve with chips as an appetizer is the absolute bomb. Please note: Come to this restaurant when you have TIME to sit an enjoy the experience. This is not a place to quickly stop in and grab a bite. The kitchen is small and the owner personally cooks each meal, so you may have to wait awhile for the food depending on how busy they are. But they are aware of this and the waiters check in on you often to see if you need drink refills or chips. As a tourist, this may not be the type of food you were expecting to eat during your visit, but go anyways! You will not regret it. read more
