I used Google to find a bakery near me and found this little place off Hanley road. Inside the smells were appealing so I decided to buy several treats. Tres Leche Cake, Guava Cream Cheese , Chocolate Pastry Eclair, and Chicken and Beef Empanadas. The Eclair was the favorite.Think of the dessert you know now in a flakey .tasty shell. The Guava was good and we had mixed opinions on the cake. Parts of it were amazing, the cake was a little gritty in texture. My son dropped by last week to pick up a cake and some empanadas for the first time. We'd seen such great reviews and wanted to support a small business. He enjoyed the empanadas a lot and picked out a pineapple cake to bring home to celebrate his birthday. Although the staff was great, the cake was not. They must use some sort of aerosol spray to color the frosting, because it tasted like chemicals. We had to throw it out because the taste was so strong. read more

The best little hidden gem! I got the Pasteur with cream cheese and jelly. It's sounds so simple but it was amazing!! I can't wait to comeback and try some sweets!! Stopped by for some lunch goodies! Very friendly and helpful staff. Helps to understand a little Spanish... as they didn't speak a lot of English. Wonderful Empanadas! Absolutely Yummy! The Colombian empanadas were delicious! The Cuban Sandwich was not very traditional, had tomatoes and lettuce (they asked me I wanted that way, and I said yes... figured I would try something new), the bread was not really a good cuban bread (very fluffy, and chewy), and it was barely pressed (probably because of the tomatoes?) I like them pressed flat and crispy. But it was still good, just not what I would call a Cubano. At least there was no Salami! ;) I did not get any of the delicious looking pastries, flans, or other breads. The Flan was very tempting though. I will be back for that, and some more empanadas! read more

Upon waking in you can see and smell all the goodness!! I could definitely get into major trouble in this bakery! Everything looks incredible and delicious and I just want 1 of everything lol. Holding myself back from doing that, so I ordered a croissant which I loved. It's so soft and fresh. Was even good the next day! I'll definitely be back here. read more

As my wife and I decided to randomly explore the neighborhood last weekend, Mi Patria proved to be a really nice surprise. Our favorites were the guava and cheese pastries. For under $16, which included a tip, we left with a good-sized bag full of various goodies, which lasted us for a couple of days. We really want to go back and give the empanadas and chicharrón a try; especially the empanadas, as they looked much better than some of the greasy hockey pucks we've encountered at other places in the Bay Area. read more

Anytime we're going on a day trip, or out to the beach or a park for lunch, we stop here to pick up a cup of fresh-squeezed orange juice (though once the oranges in our backyard get ripe we'll be cutting that out) & a Cuban Cafe con Leche, & maybe some empanadas or flan or pastries. They've got guava cheese pastries, cookies, cakes, rolled jelly cake, cupcakes, custard fruit cups, Cuban bread, Puerto Rican bread, empanadas, croquettes, other tasty-looking fried things that I can't identify... The staff all speaks Spanish & that's the first language you'll be greeted with, but they speak English, too. They don't smile much, but they're helpful. read more

This is the second or third time I have been here in the past few years. My Wife's cousins live in Tampa and all happen to be Colombian. When I really want empanadas, pan de queso, guava bread, and everything that is good about a Colombian bakery I crave this place. So sad there is not a Colombian bakery in North Carolina and this place really makes me want to move to Tampa. As other reviewers have noted, you do need to know a little Spanish in here, but the ladies are super nice and are eager to help. We ordered 1/2 the store to take home, like 8 loafs of bread, several pastries and deserts and ham/cheese croissants and the price was very reasonable. Hope I move to FL some day so I can be a weekly customer! read more

I love this place!!! Never would have found out about this if it weren't for a coworker introducing me to it! There's plenty of parking during the day. The young lady working there was very friendly and constantly smiling. There were a lot of items I wasn't too familiar with, but she was very patient with me and described what was inside the items! I really appreciated her! They're credit card friendly above $5. Each meat pie/empanada was about $1 each... Not bad at all. The Columbian meat pies are my absolute favorite. I have to get 2+ just for myself each time I go. I pretty much only go here for this though. The spicy salsa sauce that comes with it is so good to pour into the meat pie before each bite! 5 stars. We got the chicken empanada was flavored well and moist inside. It was good. They gave a great portion of chicken too. The guava and cheese pastry was just okay for me. Didn't have enough cheese for my liking because I love cheese. It was very flaky - so kudos there! Chicharones was flavored well. They gave huge chunks - were not stingy at all. Only thing was the piece we got was a little over cooked/crispy. I used the spicy salsa from the meat pies to dip. I would order it again. Must try this place! I love this place. Great meat dept. It is a smaller scale Mazzaro's with lots of authentic Italian selections, nice wine selection and a very good cheese aisle. Tampa's very own. No need to drive across the bay. Oh and I forgot the produce and olives. read more

A true neighborhood Columbian (I've been corrected by their neighbor they are no Cuban) Homemade and very tasty. Wish we had something like this where we live. We would recommend going here to get some guava deserts if your in the area staying at one of the hotels. read more

This has & continues to be my go to empanadas restaurant. Even my friends, that swear their homemade empanadas are the best. MI Patria, beats them every time in my book. My friends often bring empanadas from this place to work so I finally stopped by myself. The empanadas with picante and papa rellanas are the best. It will become a regular stop on my way home. The girls there were nice and did great understanding me speaking English to them while it's a predominantly Spanish speaking neighborhood and definitely and Spanish speaking bakery. Super friendly and prompt service. The pastries here are are fresh and always on point. The place is always mobbed with people, so the pastries are constantly being sold and turned. My son plays baseball nearby so that is how we learned of this place. One day someone brought a bagful of Colombian empanadas to a game and shared them around. They are wonderful and filling, I think $1.50 each (although it might be a little less). Ask for the sauce, which is also unique. Also have deserts, pastries, stuff made with merengue and guava, some sandwiches, coffee, etc. But ask for the Colombian empanadas. They'll be the ones that are more football than taco shaped. read more

I stopped by recently to order a Colombian cheese bun (pan de bono) and a couple of Colombian beef empanadas and they were all stale, as though they were leftovers from the day before. Had I taken a bite right away, I would have demanded either a refund or that I get crunchy empanadas and a fresh cheese bun. Since they raised the price of most items, they should make sure that they keep the quality as well. read more

I've been coming here for years upon years now and the bakery never fails to deliver delicious and fresh food daily. They get to each customer pretty fast even though it is almost always packed. If you are looking for an authentic COLOMBIAN bakery this is your place! Beside the amazing bread and baked goods they also make empanadas, lechona, chorizo and other Colombian goodies. I highly recommend everyone give this place a try. My only recommendation is that you do not try to call and order a head because they will either not answer or hang up on you. read more

Stopped here for some guava pastries and coffee with milk. Found this place online. Glad I did. Great atmosphere. I'm still learning Spanish so I was able to semi communicate with the great staff. I found this place online and decided to try it. Delicious!! I got a fabulous Cuban for under $5!! I bought 3 pastries a loaf of yummy looking cheese bread and two Cubans for $16.00!! They were very friendly. I cant wait to go back and try the empanadas and some of the other pastries. This is a hidden gem. Great quality at insanely reasonable prices. read more

Unfortunately we wont be able to visit much, since it is Tampa, however, if you are in the area, you need to check it out and when we are in the area, we will go back. This is an authentic Cuban bakery serving all the classic dishes including cakes, pastries, bread, sandwiches, empanadas, coffee and more. Since our friends had been here before they ordered ahead of time and they ordered a ton of stuff! Some for the beach and some to take back home. My wife and I ordered just a couple of things to eat immediately. Their store is located inside a small shopping center, there is a small parking lot but very small. Inside, it is very clear and bright. They have numerous counters and two sides to the store. One side had cakes and desserts and the other side had the pastries and empanadas and coffee. There was also a counter to stand and eat before you leave which I thought was great. You didn't have to eat in your car, you could eat right there. I was a little worried as a lot of other Cuban bakeries we have been to, the employees did not speak English and my wife and I, do not speak Spanish. However, the cashier we had was super friendly, explained all the different varieties of empanadas and was able to assist us with no issues. Other employees were helping our friends with their order so she rang us up and boxed up all our stuff. I will say even though they ordered ahead, they were not ready so we spent about 15 minutes waiting for them to pack everything up. My wife and I only ordered a couple things. She wanted ham croquettes because they are one of her favorite things. These were delicious, very tasty, I even took one from her and I do not usually prefer these. They were crunchy and full of flavor. We would have ordered more to take home had we not been going to the beach for the day. She also ordered her favorite Cuban pastry, a guava pastry. I did not try it but she loved it, saying it was really good. I usually go for the empanadas. They did have about 4 different types. I went with a beef and then a chorizo. I have never had a chorizo empanada but this was absolutely delicious. Again, I wish I had ordered more. My wife and I both agreed it was better than the beef. Their empanadas are really large, fried, crispy crunchy, really how an empanada should be. Again very good, no notes on the food. It would be great to have more Cuban bakeries in our area but we always make sure to get our fix when visiting South Florida and now when we are in Tampa. We will be back here!
